I'm fking SCREAMING. Summer's Snow was a strong debut, but Fall's Thorns is in a completely different league!

Plot progression, character development, twists, prophecies, and world building. Literally everything you could ask for in a romantasy. The pacing is *chef's kiss* and I was hooked from the very first page

The miscommunication trope was a little heavy for the first 20%, but honestly it added to the depth of the characters (a trope I usually cannot stand)

I'm gnawing at the bars of my enclosure for book 3! This one was a wild ride and I can’t wait to be back in this world

**this book is a sequel to Summer’s Snow, which is a Snow White retelling with court politics, magic training, deception, and some kick-ass characters! Please don’t start with this book as it will not make any sense without reading book 1**

If the quote “But what is grief, if not love persevering?” Was a book it would be Falls Thorns.

Fall’s Thorns was one of my most anticipated books of 2024. And after finishing I can confidently say it blew me out of the water with my expectations.

I had so many theories and hopes going in after reading Summer’s Snow, and even if my theories were wrong at times, the suspense, twists and turns were beyond my hopes for the sequel.

This book does deal with a lot of grief, as did the first book. But with Misha’s grief it is so incredibly raw and real it just cuts into your heart and pierces your soul. It made me sob for hours, but her story and her mental health journey is so incredibly important and most of all so beautiful and real.

Alongside the grief, is such great world building getting to meet more characters, get background on the lore and magic and creatures!! Was so so fun. I literally felt like I was watching a movie as I was reading it was so vivid and stunning.

I ended this book with wait for it…. 891 highlights and 156 notes so needless to say a time was had.

Fall’s Thorns gets two 🌶️🌶️ and five ⭐️'s from me.

Lastly, I am as terrified as I am excited to see what comes next. And I really wish I had the next book in my hands right now because of how Fall’s ended. Like right now. Please. I actually don’t think I can wait longer than a few hours for this.

Carly did hurt my feelings many a times within this series but I’m still gonna say read it, and that I am beyond grateful to have received this arc.

First off, thanks so much to the author for the ARC (my first ARC, AHHHH)!!!!!!! I have loved reading about this world and this story through the first 2 books! The world-building is so rich and I adore the relationship between Nicole and Misha, the 2 main characters (twins) that the story follows. There were some scenes that I did feel were rushed, and some plot points that I felt could have been explained a bit more before jumping into them, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next!

ARC Review

I have been waiting for this book for MONTHS! Carly is such a fantastic writer and she instantly grabs you into her world and leaves you never wanting to leave it!

I fell in love with Nic’s character instantly and that’s probably because of how much I identify with her. August is so good for her, just like she is good for him. My heart was constantly breaking for them and it’s probably how closely I hold them in my heart as the reason that I just couldn’t connect to Misha and Julian. While they are both such strong characters, it just constantly seemed like they were the sunshine children getting everything they wanted, while Nic and August were battling every moment for a shred of happiness.

Without spoilers, the answers they received made me even more resentful of Misha. Nic always protected her, she always put on a front, felt like she couldn’t let her true self show, while Misha always got to be Misha.

Now, I am not taking anything away from Misha’s story or Carly’s writing AT ALL. I thought the way that Carly handled Misha’s depression was a beautiful and honest representation of what millions of people deal with in their own personal lives. Misha has dealt with a lot and had a loving support system the whole way through.

Adrienne can eat rocks. I hope she gets what’s coming to her in the next book because UGH. I strongly dislike her.

I am SALIVATING for book 3. Give it to us soon Carly!!!

More like 2.5 stars, the last 15-20 chapters were kind of redeeming but this is definitely “second book syndrome” just messy and lots of characters were whining, dramatic and not the same from the first book

So my two biggest complaints is that nothing really happens until like the last 15-20 chapters. The rest is just Misha and Julian in their emo era.

Like, I get it. They're going through something traumatic. But I can only take so many chapters of them complaining about the same things and their dark feelings and them not talking to each other before it gets old.

I will say though, one of the redeeming qualities of this book is how the author tackled Misha's depression. It was perfectly dealt with, and I love the overlaying theme of "you have so much support but that means nothing if you aren't helping yourself." I loved how anti depressants were represented and tailored to Misha. The depression felt very real and raw, and I think the author encapsulated that perfectly.

Amazing first chapter. The closing sentence of chapter 1? Absolute chills. And who else delivers a genuine plot twist in chapter one of book two! Genius. Great improvement in dialogue from book one to book two. It feels much more original. Nonstop action packed first half with punchy cliffhanger-esque chapter endings that makes you want to binge. OMG THE ENDING???? Absolutely cannot wait for book three. Genius, great plot, perfect twists. Amazing work!

ARC review:

I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this book. I had to go back first and reread Summer’s Snow because I wanted it all fresh in my mind. And I’m so glad I did. I love it so much. This was my first ARC and I wanted to do it justice.

I loved this. Carly’s writing is so beautiful and lovely. I don’t connect as much with Misha as much as Nic and I adore Nic and August and their connection. So I’m so glad we still got them both in this book. (Not that I don’t like Misha and Julien…just to be clear). I love the way Carly’s mind works and I really just enjoy her books.

How do I say this with no spoilers? I love the flashbacks and that even tho Diana isn’t around she still plays a huge role in their lives.

Carly tackling mental health and grief in these books is so validating and heartbreaking and raw. I always feel the character’s pain. As hard as it is to read, it’s also nice that it’s not just brushed aside or dealt with in the periphery.

No spoilers but the ending!? I’m so terrified. Please hurry. But also don’t rush it. But please hurryyyyy!!!

ARC review—I can’t wait to reread this book in its final form. What an insightful approach to grief and loss, and I really loved seeing more chapters from different characters’ points of view. There are heartbreaks that felt like a punch to the core but also examples of love in all its forms. It was a pleasure to read, and I am much looking forward to the finished edition.

I love books that stem from fairy tales, and the way this author pays tribute to the original stories is fresh and unique. You can recognize the ties and subtle winks, but it is so much more than a retelling of the exact same story. This series has quickly grown into one of my favorites in the past few years, and I look forward to finding out what happens next.

Of course there are some edits that I expect will be made prior to the final cut, but as a story it was both compelling and cozy, and it’s a story that I will keep coming back to. I am extremely grateful to the author for allowing me access to the ARC, and I hope to have the hard copy soon. I can’t wait for the next one!

Spice: 1.75🌶

Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity. This review is as always voluntary & honest.

THAT. ENDING! Wow, okay, listen. The last 10%, I was not expecting those plot twists... at ALL. Was there some foreshadowing to some events that occurred? Yes. Did some other things unfold that had my jaw dropping and screaming, "wait, WHAT?" Also, yes. However, the ending got me all hyped up for the next book & I cannot wait to have it in my hands so I can continue on this epic journey with these characters. With that being said, prepare for some emotional damage. 🫢

Now let's start with Nic and Misha, but most importantly my girl Misha because my girl GREW in this book. And I mean it emotionally, physically in the sense of strength & in an overall sense as a character. In book 1, we had a focus on Nic & her own journey & growth, however, we see the fighter she was forged to be from the events from book 1, but we also see a softer side of her in this book, which I adored. I also loved seeing her relationship with Misha strengthen even more in this book, as they both went on their journey to truly find themselves, and the power they hold within. How far their well goes & how unique they are in every sense.

Misha went on her own journey of grief, pain, the deepest of heartbreak & of loving all parts of herself, including her darkness. Of letting herself be loved to the fullest extent, as she deserves & let herself love back. We also see her growth as a fighter, as well as her magic strengthen, as she meets the strongest version of herself yet. This Misha was the Misha I've been wanting to see since book 1 & BOY was I happy to fully meet her.

August & Julian are the brother duo that will have your heart & yourself melting. I fell in love with August in Summer's Snow & this book further cemented that love & need to wrap him up in a hug & never let go. HOWEVER, this book was Julian's time to SHINE as the love interest & this man had ME SWOONING. His sweet & supportive nature, his deep love for those who mean most to him & his utter devotion to Misha had me screaming, "WHEN WILL IT BE MY TURN?" Although his heart is good & kind, one who cannot fathom hurting others, I adore how fierce he is when it comes to protecting those he loves. How his heart can be so pure & truly a heart of gold, and yet also ready to protect his love, his family, in an instant. No matter the cost. New book boyfriend FOR SURE.

The side characters in this book make the found family trope be FELT DEEPLY. The relationships & friendships in this series truly are wholesome & you can't help but love all interactions between them. Like I said, the ending was full of the unexpected & some heartbreak, but it was beyond worth it. I am excited to see this series continue, & I definitely think you should join me on this ride & read this book; or start this series if you haven't already! 🩷

I read 101 books in 2023, and I read Summer’s Snow in February, and it was the book I returned to most often to reread in parts. These characters & relationships were so compelling and identifiable. There were certain traits that really annoyed me, too, about a lot of these characters, but I guess that’s part of what makes them & their relationships identifiable.

Fall’s Thorns picks up right where Summer’s Snow left off, so we get into action right away. Misha and Julian are saved at the beginning - not a spoiler because the story follows both of them as they adjust to how their time asleep has changed them and their relationship and how all of that is compounded by their painful pasts before the events of the first book.

Their story includes struggle, but it’s also just a very simply sweet story, and I think that’s okay. As LM Montgomery writes of Anne & Gilbert, sometimes romance does evolve slowly, naturally, and easily from childhood friendships. Some readers do feel they got it easy compared to Nic & August, and that might have a ring of truth to it, but again, some relationships are just like that, and it’s no less beautiful. We follow them battling their own fears and struggling to be vulnerable with each other, and if that isn’t every relationship…

Now, as for Nic & August…
For those of us who couldn’t get enough of them & definitely wanted more, Carly’s got us covered. There were a lot of mushy & lovey dovey (& spicy) moments between them, and that was very much appreciated, especially since the book ends on such a heartbreaking cliffhanger. We won’t get the kind of certainty we’re craving for them just yet, but we were gifted with a lot of blissful, honeymoon-ish moments with them so we get to hold onto that while we wait for book 3.

I really don’t like giving books starred reviews because it can’t ever capture why or how a person read or liked/disliked the book. I just very simply liked the book a lot.

There are a number of critiques that could be said, but as with the first book, they’re all simply due to it being independently written, self-published, self-promoted, and a first time author. To me, these are all neutral, technical things. I’m just here to take a story for what it is, and I love it for what it is. I’ll be coming back to this book for my comfort bits while we wait for Winter in book 3.

Thanks so much to the author for the e-ARC, I can’t wait to get my hands on a hard copy.

I'm grateful to have read the ARC! When I finished Summer's Snow, I kept thinking about the story for months. So I'm very happy I got to continue with Misha and Julian.

What I enjoyed:
The multiple POV chapters flows well in this sequel. Misha's voice and thoughts are captured really nicely and have a natural connection with other characters. I also really enjoyed Nic's and August's POV chapters as well -- for me, their storyline is number #1.

The direction of the plot is exciting from start to finish. I like how the book immediately starts with where Summer's Snow left off and how it ends with a cliffhanger. One thing I like about CHM's writing is the slow parts are slow without being boring. It's a refreshing way to understand character background, history and internal conflict (this was especially done well in Summer's Snow with Alesia and Eve's history). We start to see this with Sena, Julian's mom, through Misha and Julian's POVs and I hope to see more in book 3.

The continuation of Nic and August's story. For me, these 2 characters are in my head all the time, and reading their POV chapters is a huge motivator in reading. I really love seeing Nic in Misha's POV chapters -- it creates this balance of knowing Nic through her own eyes and how others see her. It's really beautifully done.

What could have been better:
The action scenes are rushed and difficult to follow.

There are two character reveals that seemed out of the blue to the storyline. The attempt for twists was not done as well as anticipated and I'm not sure how this will drive the story in book 3.

Misha and Julian's dialogue is overdone. I felt like I was reading the same miscommunication in their dialogue with the same 3 versions over and over (well over 50% of the book). I think their reconciliation could have been in the first 30% of the book and we kept seeing their relationship growth for more of the story.

Overall, this is a great sequel to Summer's Snow and sets up well for book 3.

I’d like to first give a HUGE thank you to Carly for allowing me to read this book as an ARC! Your love and devotion to your craft is amazing and I deeply appreciate and respect you.

Restoration. Romance. Revenge.

Let’s begin with a review without spoilers and when spoilers will begin, i’ll be sure to say in caps. Fall’s Thorns is a beautifully written book. It delicately addresses grief and depression in a way that I’ve personally not read before. We have many POVs that dance with how both grief and depression impact and affect every single person differently. Additionally, I loved that the characters stayed true to who they were and supported the others in the time of darkness. This book has romance, revenge, and restoration - the three Rs that we didn’t know we needed! I look forward to the next book where I know Carly will give Nic, Misha, and the crew a great narrative.

This would also be a good time to say, SPOILER WARNING STARTING NOW.

SPOILERS….DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE BOOK.

Dragons. I love when dragons are written. I LOVED how Carly wrote the eagles to dragons transformation. Was I expecting those eagles to turn against Misha? No. Was it a lovely twist. Yes.

Jophiel. I did not expect to have Misha and Nic to have found a long lost family member. I texted a friend and said “if she dies, i will not recover”. I felt as if Carly had plans up her sleeves and I didn’t like the vibes. This is where we have revenge and restoration come to play. Jophiel is injured due to the need to gain revenge. Misha then combines what she knows and loves and is able to heal Jophiel. Thank goodness.

Fated Mates. I eat up fated mates. Fall’s Thorn gives Fated Mates and Chosen Lovers. I can’t say that I was happy with August and Nic’s mating ceremony going south, but I respect the writing and the subplot Carly moves into action. Carly leaves us on a thread with August’s POV not exactly remembering Nic but knowing he is missing someone and something entirely. My favorite quote from the entire book is from August prior to Adrienne shattering his memory the last 100 years. It is “ I would love Nicole Briar until the day i died - after, when I was only a spirit of dust among the stars.” Melted into a puddle, loved this from August.

I thought book one was very good, but book two tops it for sure.

To keep this as spoiler free as possible, I’ll give vague details.

POVs include Misha and Julian, as anticipated, but she kept our spicy flame and lightning couple’s views too, so more Nic and August for those wondering if you’d get more. 😉

The first part was honestly a bit slower after the initial first few chapters that had left off at the end of book 1. I didn’t love the “helpless” feel of Misha initially, but having an understanding of her history with depression helped to clear that up.

The plot twists throughout the story definitely kept me interested without being able to guess the ending. I love that in a book because too often I can read a few chapters and know exactly what will happen. So win for the author on throwing in a few twists to the storyline.

Now the ending… how dare Carly just leave us with the heartbreak and feels!? The swirl of anger and sadness that came reading the final few chapters was worth the entire book. It leaves you wanting so much more and anticipating book 3.

For a newer author, I felt the book as a whole was at a level with authors who have several series out already. It had spice (I’d give it a solid 🌶️🌶️🌶️), dragons, battles, realistic emotions and talk of mental health, lgbtq couples, plot twists, and a cliffhanger you have a love/hate relationship with. It’s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me.

ARC review.
Where do I even start?? I LOVED this book. My only problem with it was Julian's whining in the first 20-30% of the story. I was worried that it will prolong to the end but fortunately it didn't. I love how we unraveled Misha's character and got a little bit more of Julian's thoughts. And how Nic and August opened to us from very different sides. The way Carly added our main villain's POVs was awesome. I loved that we had a glimpse into her twisted mind. I also loved how the world building and lore expands in this book. In Summer's Snow we had only crumbs of it and I was really curious how the magic works and how it all comes together. The thing I loved the most about this book is how we see the sisterly bond between Nic and Misha in a full swing. The unconditional love they have for each other is everything. I also loved how easily the Seven accepted Misha. In first book we saw Nic getting friends in them and now Misha was doing the same. I loved how the twins finally found people outside their family who they could open to and grow to trust. That was amazing. And the plot twist after the plot twist after the plot twist?? I genuinely didn't see all that coming. The betrayal?? What was that?? And don't get me started on the epilogue. That ending was criminal. Carly, if by any chance you read this... WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?? Why would you do that to him?? Just why?? Anyway, I had the greatest time reading this book and I can't wait for the Winter to come.

Carly freaking did it again! Such an amazing read! I have to start off by saying that Summers Snow was a great introduction to the series. It was filled with romance, questions that were answered and some not, plot twist, shocking revelations and more! In Falls Thorns, we get more action, more spice, war, with even more amazing writing and pacing.

You can tell how much Carly has improved with her writing. It’s the way how she’s able to leave readers immersed within the plot but also the setting of the book as well and how the magic system ties into everything smoothly. It honestly makes for an easy and captivating read.

The plot is everything in my opinion. I know this is a retelling of different Disney princess movies but I’d like to say inspired because Carly makes her story unique!

The romance is to die for! Of course we have the mate aspect in fantasy but you can really feel the characters love for each other through the writing. Not only between the love interest but between the twin sisters and found family.

If you Romantasy baddies have not read this series yet, I highly recommend you to read it! Yes there’s a bit of spice, tension, angst, but there’s also an amazing plot to be introduced to with unexpected cliffhangers!

I received an ARC of this book, and I can't wait for everyone to be able to read this book. Fall's Thorns is a sequel to Summers Snow, and you can tell the author has taken their time with this second book.
The pace is definitely better with this book, and you get more world building as more of the world is introduced and seen. That being said, there is a big info dump in the middle of the book that I definitely need to re-read to fully understand.
There is a MC who suffers from depression, trauma, and self-harm, so you should read with caution if that is something that triggers you.
Similar to my review of the first book, I'm not fully getting the fairytale retelling in the book and it's nice as the story doesn't feels forced or your constantly reminded that this is a "sleeping beauty" retelling or "snow white" retelling. However, I have no clue which fairytale is being retold since it feels like different fairytales are being told at the same time.
I give this book 4 stars because I love the story and world building happening within the story. The pace feels better compared to the first one and it feels realistic in sense of the characters waiting and living their lives as the war progresses and they deal with it.

ARC review!!!

first things first, that ending is CRIMINAL!!! i’m under your bed, carly, begging you to fix what you have done to my baby.

i absolutely LOVED summer’s snow. it was one of my favorite books i read last year. unfortunately, this second installment really dragged for me. i absolutely love the way carly writes her books, but at times i just felt confused. there were some plot lines that really just came out of nowhere that i wish had a bigger build up to them.

i really didn’t feel the chemistry between misha and julian, but luckily nic and august were there to keep it interesting for me. AND BOY WAS IT INTERESTING.

i will say that maybe my enjoyment of this book was a bit hindered due to the fact that i am in a bit of a slump, and i should have reread the first book again before reading this one.

all of that being said, i will still (obviously!!!) be reading the third book once it comes out. i will hopefully be in a better reading space at that time and do a reread of summer’s snow and fall’s thorns to hopefully improve the journey.

i still recommend this series 100x over to anyone who is thinking about starting it!

This is easily going to be one of my favourite books of the year!

Falls Thorn’s picks up where Summer’s Snow left off, but this time we follow Misha’s journey in more detail. My favourite thing about Fall’s Thorns was the mental health representation and the way it’s addressed through the FMCs lived experiences, as well as all the characters that interact with them.

Carly’s writing is descriptive and detailed, fully allowing readers to immerse themselves in this fantastic world she has created. The world building and magic system are both accessible and great for romantasy beginners, but intricate enough that will keep all readers absorbed and captivated.

This book is fast paced and full of adventure, twists, and turns that had me screaming, crying and gasping for air! And the ROMANCE!!!! Swoon worthy love declarations and intimate moments<3

Thank you Carly for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

All I can say is, wow!!!!!

I have no words! Book two of the Briar Sisters was just superbly done. The flow was just.... wow. It picks up seameslessly from where Book One ended, and for me, that was what stood out the most and made this book one of my favourite reads. I loved the growth of the characters, the way the relationships blossomed and not just between the MCs. The feet stomping, fist thumping, tear jerking, LOL, OMG, YESSSSS moments, all made this a truly remarkable book. I've pretty much run out of words that can adeqauelty discribe how I feel about Thorn's Fall, but what I can say is that Carly is a master storyteller, and that this is an exceptionally well written work of art. If strong, real characters that you can identify with, MMCs thay make you wish you could marry a fictional chatater, FMCs that kick ass without apology, is what you seek, then this is the book for you!!!

But I’m sorry Nic and August not being mates JAIL TIME. Like not trying to be rude but I really feel like the author has a favorite and it’s Misha which I like her don’t get me wrong but Nic is the best and it’s like this girl keeps getting out through the ringer of everything like give my girl a break please!!!!!!!! Honestly WHAT GHE HELL—this book just broke me in two I won’t even lie. Like I’m sorry but why is misha and Julian mates and so awesome and so freaking powerful but then Nic and August who have been through so much keep getting shit on. WHY DO TOU HATE NIC AND AUGUST WHAT ????? Honestly how dare you. I do not know how my heart will wait for book 3.

AHHH THIS BOOK!!!
I’m so thankful to have been given the opportunity to read this ARC!
I love the light fairytale retelling that doesn’t feel stale or reused.
Magical Twins… Witches… Dragons (that was a surprise!)… Manipulation… Fated Mates with a twist…. Mental Health Discussion… Natural LGBTQ relationships… this book is beautiful 🤍
Falls’s Thorn doesn’t have second book syndrome! That alone is amazing. I would reread these books already. I love Misha so much and feel a deep connection to her. Seeing a character handle grief and depression was beautiful. Misha is complex, but her love for Julian is simple in the best ways.
Julian gives Kristoff (from Frozen) vibes in the ‘my love is not fragile’ type of ways.
Seeing Nic and Augusts relationship and the unexpected twists was a surprise.
I cannot wait to see Winter in December! 🤍✨

After loving the first book, I was eager to dive back in and see what happens next. This installment focuses more on Misha, the second twin, revealing what she endured during the first book's events and the scars that remain. Her complex romance with Julian is still unfolding, and the main plot drives forward with Nicole and August's story.

The sisters are finally reunited, but their journey is fraught with challenges.
Will their relationships withstand the trials? Can they stop their evil stepmother and reclaim their throne?
As the twins face their fate, they must conquer quest after quest to defy the stars and secure their future.

With a perfect blend of romance and plot development, this book ends on a heartbreaking cliffhanger, setting the stage for an epic conclusion in December. I can't wait!

If you love ACOTAR and Twin Crowns, this series is a must-read!

This series is in my top 5 reads of 2024 for sure! I cannot get enough of this series. Loved the first book, and loved this one even more. I loved the world building and the character development. I found Misha and Julian to be a bit bland in the first book, but having their love story be fleshed out in this book made me appreciate them so much more. Misha has become my favorite character. Her struggle with depression and not wanting to be a burden to those she loves is so relatable and I connected with her as a character so much in this book. The last 15% of the book was a whirlwind. I actually screamed out loud at August’s sacrifice and was heartbroken for Nic. The twist at the end was unexpected. I’m usually pretty good about predicting story endings so it was so fun to not know what was going to happen too early!

I cannot wait for the next book to come out!

i am so thankful to have received an arc for this as it was so highly anticipated after finishing summers snow last year. carly continues to take us on a journey with these 2 twins through grief, depression, mental health, found family, physical & emotional growth, love, acceptance, and fate as she weaves her web in falls thorns. i have SUCH a soft spot for nic she is truly my favorite and i see a lot of my personality traits in her.

the cliffhanger this leaves us on is WILD. i actually did not see the extent of it coming but the prologue was a really refreshing take on how the storyline is going to progress and im so excited to see where it goes!

My heart can't take this suspense. This story has so much happening from beginning to end, including action, love, mystery, tension, and twists.

I still love Nic and August, but Misha and Julian have my heart now, too. We start off Fall's Thorns where book 1 left off. This book has even more chaos than book 1, and the twists and turns in this book will surprise you. I loved the little hints that would pop up throughout the story to guess what might happen next, but nothing prepared me for the end. Let me sum up my reaction.. tears. I can't wait to see where book three takes our couples and what is in store.

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, knowing that it was mostly Misha and Julian’s story, (I’m a Nic and August girl), but I was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed all of it. There are so many ups and downs emotionally, and definitely a couple of plot twists that I did not see coming. There’s not much to say without spoiling the story, but I will say once again I have found myself sad that I have to put this book down because, the same as when I read Summer's Snow, I just want more of the story and can’t believe I have to wait again for the next book!
