The Reluctant Witch
Jennifer is a police dog handler and also a witch who doesn't do magic. When a witch is killed supposedly by a vampire Jenny is assigned Ronaldo the case with Oliver who as well as being a DCI is a vampire.
I so loved this book that I read it in the course of a day. The story was taut and the characters likeable. I loved the character of Jenny and how could you not like Fitz the police dog she works with, who is also her familiar.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I love this story; you have Jenny a witch who has turned away from her magic because of an accident with magic while she was at college and now, she works on the canine unit of the police. Jenny gets assigned to a special task force for a witch who was murdered, and the killer tried to make it look like a vampire was the killer and the DCI Oliver is a handsome vampire, but it turns out that only the 2 of them are on the task force. Things aren't adding up, just not making any sense and Jenny doesn't know who to trust even though she's very attracted to Oliver. And I can't forget Jenny's adorable dog Fritz who turns out to be her familiar. Jenny, Oliver and Fritz follow the clues and make some really unexpected discoveries before they find the killer and a little romance along the way. Great read.

Enjoyable.
I wanted a book, that wasn't too heavy and this fit the bill. Also has a dog in it, so that's good for me. Also a talking dog, or at least 🤔 hear his thoughts, speaking telepathically. I think loads of us would love to chat to our pets. Anyway, there is a witch who doesn't use magic, we do find out why later in the book, but I did think perhaps she was bad at it, but she's not.
She is working in a K9 unit ( police dog unit) and is seconded to working elsewhere, still in same town but different station, because a murder of a witch, and she and DCI Collins are the team on the job.
Why not a bigger team? Why put them together? Who was the witch really? What was her connection with the town. All these are answered in the book.

DOA
I never enjoy it when a writer refers to the reader, you know? This had some odd tense changes as though the mc is both experiencing the events unfolding in the present and using past tenses, as in “I was soon to find out”. The author lost me completely by the time the police department reassigned a K9 dog trainer to be a homicide detective and made lead investigator on a case. This may be right up someone else’s alley, alas, not mine.

It's ok
I felt like it needed a bit more to make it shine. There were a few places where I felt like the pacing and consistency weren't the best. I just had trouble connecting and I'm not entirely sure what just happened here. But, it was entertaining enough and it was an interesting world and characters.

I liked it but
I did enjoy it and I have pre-ordered the next. However, for the most powerful witch she does have gullible written over her forehead. And im never a fan of falling in love in 2 seconds. A little bit too cosy for me.

I enjoyed this book. A paranormal murder mystery? I’m in. I wasn’t at all surprised by the outcome, but the conclusion of the investigation wasn’t as interesting as the process, so that’s fine by me. I’m not a fan of secret keeping when it’s used purely as a means of adding suspicion and drama but isn’t in keeping with the character and their expected behaviour. But, it was a nice read and I liked the main characters and their dynamic in general. The main female character was great. While she struggled with guilt and a lack of self-confidence, they weren’t too overwhelming and she was still a self-reliant woman who was comfortable in her own skin. So a well-rounded, relatable character who despite having strong magical gifts also has some flaws.

I enjoyed this book!
An interesting story about a witch who has turned her back on witchcraft, and the reason for her doing so.
A cosy mystery, set somewhere in the English countryside near to the sea!
One of two parts didn't seem to flow as they should, but on the whole an enjoyable read!

Rubbish
Rubbish from a good talented author. Starts out well with the wpc but too quickly slips into a mediocre melodrama with uneven conclusions. Won't read the next one.
