I think the biggest weakness here is how generic the cyperpunk beats/world texturing is. Everything that isn't aggressive cartoon sexuality is boring- which shouldn't be a problem I guess, because it's clear the point isn't anything but the agressive cartoon sex- but the fact that this has elements of a longform narrative makes it irritating to wait through utterly boring, insiped plotting. I think this could be avoided with the type of thing that Pynchon (!), or 2025's The Shroud's does, where the plot is constantly reneogotiated, trampled, and transubstaniated by horniness ["conspiracies make me horny"]. But the narrative beats and juvenille cardboard world plods on bravely, making it that sort of romp/slog chimera that manga-inclined cartoonists seem to actually enjoy.
If you don't clutch your pearls at some cartoony cocks & tits, this is a MUST READ. The antagonist, The Algorithm, is all too relevant. A madcap heist farce with sexy scenes, WAY over the top in the best way. The climax (haha) and resolution are surprisingly poignant. This book is so much fun, it stands the trope of porn introducing "story" to the boning to make it interesting on its head. The story is so good, I forgot I was reading porny comics.
Not as immediately gripping as Mr. Boop, but has more thought applied to it than "sci-fi comedy erotica" would make you think. It'd be misleading this to say this does for SF what Oglaf does for fantasy, not least because this focuses on long-form storytelling to an extent that Oglaf long-since gave up on, but it's in a similar ballpark. finally did the whole thing because #5 is coming out rn. pretty funny. definitely not as good as the legendary mr boop, to me. but the art is great and robbins always has something weird/interesting going on thematically. most 18+ thing i’ve ever read that’s not literally just porn (…i think?)
In this corporate dystopian future, the algorithm can’t keep up with horny thief Haze and her team. Queer as hell pornographic sci-fi heist comedy comic that I am very here for.
Secretary meets Looney Tunes. There's really nothing else like this and I think I'll leave it at that before I start telling strangers too much about myself.
Another banger Alec has managed to write something horny and funny without involving sexy clowns. Generally looser than Mr. Boop but the 2 page spreads are some of best drawings Alec has put out. 5 bags of popcorn.
