In this suspenseful Canadian thriller, Lance, a once successful rock and roll musician turned vigilante killer, has never denied his guilt…but knows now he could've handled things differently.
With dwindling hope after two years in prison – and three life sentences ahead of him – the BC guitarist seizes his one opportunity for a life out of chains. With the help of loyal friends – straight-laced Reg and ex-druggie Jenny – Lance busts out of the Vancouver prison and begins his cross country journey with Jenny to New York City, where her street-wise Uncle Dusty will provide a safe hiding place, fake IDs, and a plan to get across the Mexican border.
However, it isn’t long before Jenny’s bad habits resurface, bringing heat on them both. They lose Dusty as an ally, and in a strange country with Feds and gangsters on his tail, Lance is forced to lead the rapidly deteriorating journey south. As danger mounts, Lance realizes the bitter that freedom, whether he deserves it or not, might always be out of his reach.
Editorial Review JD Shipton Jake's on the run. Having tired of the unchanging scenery in the pen, Jake walked out the front door and hit the road. Struggling with the choices of his past, and the very real danger of the present, One Take Jake finds some new cause for gratitude as old friends and new acquaintances lend a hand to get him to the Mexican border. The music and mayhem of his past are wound together on his trail South, making for dangerous travel companions as he tries to figure out which to hold on to and which to leave in the rear-view. Sometimes the road has other plans.
After reading One Take Jake, I couldn't wait to get into this gritty sequel and was far from disappointed! Jake not only escapes prison, but escapes Canada with the help of some friends. Trouble follows him everywhere he goes - with a little urging from the last people he expects it from. Will he make it to Mexico? Readers will have to wait until the last chapter to find out!
My heart went out to Jake. Yes he did wrong, but his desperate pain and desire to avenge the horror of what happened and at the same time prevent these monsters from taking advantage of more innocents, he broke the law, at the cost of his own freedom, and there was a heavy price to pay. Sigh, Jake, can you be saved?
