From the simple joys of owning rescue dogs to handling life-saving riot dogs, Steve Mann has seen and trained them all. Every day, he sees the power of dogs to change lives and help people, in all sorts of ways. Now, for the first time, he shares stories from his wide and varied career as the UK's no. 1 Dog Trainer.
Filled with tales from the frontlines of dog-training, from meeting a puppy's basic needs to handling security dogs, and running with herding dogs in the Australian Outback, via understanding dog behaviour, psychology body-language and epigenetics, this book takes the reader on a journey from first love, to handling the grief of death, with everything that life throws at you in between. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hold your dog just that bit closer.
A really inspirational and motivational read !! I resonated so much with this book as my extensive work with neurodivergent children has followed the same basic principle for years - encouraging and praising the good behaviour - the small ( but HUGE ) milestones.
I also loved the book because of my wonderful soul puppy Boo. We rescued each other six years ago and she burst my heart wide open. I totally get the boundless love, loyalty and companionship that dogs bring to us humans.
The book made me laugh out loud so much that several times it took me at least three attempts to finish reading the paragraph !! It also made me cry.
Just wonderful.
Steve deserves every accolade and I hope his work changes the life of many dogs and humans always.
As one of the trainers who comes from the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers mentioned in the book, I can solemnly attest this is as authentic as it can get. Heaps of useful tips for owners and trainers accompanied by stories with joy, love and loss of a dog. Having attended Steve’s courses and read the books I am of course very well ‘conditioned’ to his style and humour but also to the great honesty in which he describes challenges and ups and downs of his journey. Great summer read for dog parents and trainers alike. You’ll ‘feel it in your heart’.
