In "Captive," Lindsay Gordon eloquently delves into the harrowing experience of living with chronic pain, drawing from her own battles with migraine. Through a collection of poignant poems, Gordon invites readers into the intimate struggle of being imprisoned by Pain itself, while yearning for the elusive embrace of Freedom.

Gordon's verses are a raw exploration of the emotional turmoil that accompanies chronic pain, depicting the suffocating sense of confinement within one's own body. The metaphor of Pain as a captor adds a powerful layer to her work, as she grapples with the injustice of its hold over her life.

What sets "Captive" apart is its ability to not only articulate the personal anguish of chronic pain but also to serve as a beacon of understanding for those fortunate enough to have never experienced it. Gordon's poems resonate with authenticity, offering a glimpse into a world often misunderstood and overlooked.

Through her work, Gordon seeks to foster empathy and compassion for individuals navigating the labyrinth of chronic pain. "Captive" serves as a testament to resilience in the face of adversity, reminding readers of the enduring human spirit even in the darkest of times.

In essence, "Captive" is not merely a collection of poems; it is a courageous act of bearing witness to pain and reclaiming agency in its midst. Lindsay Gordon's words are a rallying cry for empathy, urging us to acknowledge the silent struggles of those living with chronic pain and to stand in solidarity with them.

Captive is a beautiful collection of poetry that describe the author’s journey through chronic pain. The author pours her heart out on these pages, and truly helps others understand what a life with chronic pain looks like. While I do not suffer from chronic pain, I feel confident that anyone who does would resonate with this book. I also happen to know the author, and she’s pretty darn awesome! Go read this!

I dog-eared so many poems! Either because they gave voice to what I feel when pain strikes me, or because they are what I want to remember when I'm trapped in pain once again.

Beautiful.
