Snowed In with My Grumpy Boss

Rate this book
I’m the boss nobody likes—even my kid thinks I’m grumpy!

Anna has been my right hand since my wife died.

I couldn’t run my business without her, and she has a special bond with my son, Tommy.

And then I mess up.

Because of me, her boyfriend dumped her the day he was going to propose.

I never noticed her until I spilled my coffee.

My heart pounds as she dabs at the coffee on my shirt.

Her skin is silky smooth, and the tip of her nose pops up like a little ski jump.

A strand of hair falls into her face; I brush it behind her ear before I can stop myself.

My son and I need a vacation, so we head to an isolated cabin.

But I forgot Tommy’s inhaler.

Here comes Anna to the rescue again, only to get snowed in with us.

It’s then we see each other in a different light and sparks fly.

But can she forgive me for EVERYTHING I’ve done?

Anna is thinking she really needs a change of job, as her boyfriend Rick messages her about their dinner date and she realises she is late yet again. Her grumpy boss Wes (Wesley) Jacobs has kept her late at work on a Friday night again, as he does most nights, but this time it has a more serious result. She has been Wesley’s right hand since his wife Heather died and he was left to try and raise his son Tommy as well as run his company, and it seems he is failing at both! He scares off most of the other staff he has, making some cry and other just quit, and if it wasn’t for Anna smoothing things out in the background without him realising, he probably wouldn’t have any staff left. But his latest demands of her time have left her without her boyfriend and her best friend, who was unfortunately her boyfriend’s sister! They have been working on a big new deal, but Wes is sidelined by the fact his nanny Mary is leaving him to look after a family member and he is beginning to panic a bit, which makes his mood even worse. He wants Anna to book him and Tommy a cabin outside the city, but not too far, from the Friday night for a full week, whilst Tommy is on holiday and he tries to find a new nanny. She has to go and pick up last minute items for his week away and is looking for time away from work and decides to visit her parents.

Unfortunately, her plans go awry as she gets set to leave that Friday, to find her boss has left his office without saying goodbye, but has left his son’s inhaler behind! Knowing how bad Tommy’s asthma attacks can be, she can’t leave it behind and decides to detour to the cabin to drop it off, even though a snow storm is on its way. The last stretch to the cabin is bad, and she should have gone to her parents and used their 4x4 the next day, but that could be too late for Tommy if he gets wheezy. Wes had been acting a bit weird the last few days that week and avoiding her, but that was because he had suddenly started to see her as an attractive woman he couldn’t keep his eyes off. Memories of his dead wife have kept him from even dating anyone in years and he hadn’t thought he would ever be ready to. Tommy is ecstatic when he sees the cabin and the news of snow is everything he could ever want, but he soon starts wheezing and that is when he panics as he finds Tommy’s inhaler is missing and he has no phone or internet signal. Thankfully Anna comes to his rescue yet again, but she isn’t happy to be stuck in the cabin as they realise the snow has gotten too bad for her to leave! She is now stuck there in the cabin with her grumpy boss and a child getting sicker by the minute. It seems she isn’t getting any time off and the situation has made Wes even worse than he is at the office most days.

Their path to something more and the connection that has been growing between them unknowingly, is not an easy one, as situations get tense and accidents happen. Anna already has a deep love for Tommy, having seen him grow up over the last five years, but his dad has definitely not been treating her as an equal, and this cabin break shows him in a similar manner, as he leaves cooking and clearing up all to her. After an unexpected kiss from Wes, she realises her own secret thoughts of her boss as being attractive, if not easy to be around, were becoming a reality. But even though it seems like he has gotten past his consideration of being with another woman, he doesn’t make it easy to like him still! Tommy isn’t used to having his father to himself and Anna feels bad for being there at this time, but Wes replaced his wife with being a workaholic. Just as Anna is ready to leave, he comes up with two options for her and knows which one he would prefer, making for a lovely unexpected romance between the two of them and a new future. A HEA ending which was hard to come by, but made everything so much more worthwhile when it came together.

Wesley Jacobs is my boss, and he is a workaholic especially since his wife died. She has been gone for 5 years now and he works night and day just to keep himself distracted. He has a little boy, Tommy; he was 2 years old when his mother died. Now his nanny, Mary is leaving them to take care of her sick sister. This is going to be hard as she has been with us since Tommy was born. Tommy has asthma really bad and has to have an inhaler at all times.
Anna is Wesley's personal assistant, and she works about 70 hours a week. Rick, her boyfriend or shall I say was her boyfriend. She had stood him up 12 times in a 2-month period, so he was fed up and left her. So, because of her job she has lost her boyfriend and her best friend Sasha, Rick's sister.
Wesley comes into work the next morning and asks her to find a place for him and Tommy to go for a week's vacation to a cabin. He is trying to make Mary leaving easier on Tommy. They get to the cabin, and he starts cooking dinner and Tommy realized that it is snowing, and he wants to go play in it. When he gets back inside, they warm up the soup and he hears a wheeze coming from Tommy. He realizes he left the new inhaler at the office. The road is tricky leading to the cabin, so he does not want to leave and drive in the snow.
About that time Anna gets to the cabin with the inhaler as she is on her way to her parents' house. She hopes this snow does not get any worse. When she gets ready to leave, she realizes she is stuck, and her wheels are just spinning. Oh NO, she is stuck in a cabin with her boss and Tommy.
So, what do they do now? I pray that the snow stops, and I can get to my parents' house in the morning. She does not want to be stuck with her grumpy boss for long. Tommy is a great little boy but her boss ugh. I guess we will just have to read this really cute book to find out what happens next. I enjoyed reading it and I know you will too.
I am a proud member of Shari's ARC team, so I got an advanced copy of the book, and I will happily leave my review.

Relationships . . .

Wesley Jacobs has become a workaholic so he doesn’t have to deal with his grief since his wife died. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work well since the grief remains. His son, Tommy, is now 7 and another form of loss will make things difficult for them. Tommy’s nanny, who has been with Tommy all of his life, has to quit so that she can take care of her sister who needs her. The family could really use a vacation together about now.

Anna is also affected by Wesley's response (or lack thereof) to grief. Anna is his personal assistant and her work week is extraordinarily excessive so that she can be there for whatever he needs done. Her hours are so extreme that her boyfriend finally broke up with her when he couldn’t even count on her being able to show up for a date… nor for the marriage proposal he had planned. But now, Wesley requests that she rent a cabin for him and Tommy to take a mini-vacation. All goes well until the snow begins to fall and Wesley realizes they did not bring Tommy’s inhaler for his asthma! But his efficient assistant realized he left the inhaler at work and drove to the cabin to deliver it. However, the snow has continued and she is trapped there with them for now. Is this a chance for them to see each other as they really are and to wake up to the possibilities? Can he let go of the grief that has kept him from living his own life? Is there room in Wesley’s heart to finally let someone else in?

Snowed in With My Grumpy Boss is a short and sweet, grumpy-sunshine, frenemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, girl gets her boss romance. Anna is a hardworking office assistant. Wesley (Wes) is her hunky, grumpy, workaholic boss who is having trouble balancing parenthood. He is a widower and single dad to Tommy (7). His wife passed 5 years ago, and he threw himself into his work to deal with the grief. Anna is his right-hand woman, but his ridiculous demands cost her both her boyfriend, who planned on proposing, and his sister, her best friend. When she returns to work, she knows she has to quit but Wes asks her to book a week at a cabin as his son's nanny is also leaving and he knows it will be hard on his son. Tommy has bad asthma. When Anna is leaving the office, she sees Tommy's inhaler and decides to drop it off at the cabin before visiting her parents. She ends up snowed-in with them and is not happy. Wes is still taking her for granted and treating her poorly. But something shifts between them, and feelings develop. Has Wesley lost her with his poor behavior, or can he make it up to her? This was a sweet story with a lot of tears and angst. Their chemistry was great, and I loved the banter. Anna was a spitfire, and I adored Tommy.. We did finally get a well-earned HEA, but I was sweating it. It was a great read.

Anna is the personal assistant to workaholic Wesley who has a young asthmatic son, Tommy. Since his wife died, it appears he has thrown himself into his work and his son has a nanny to watch after him. Anna meanwhile has a boyfriend, Rick and her best friend, Sasha, Rick's sister. But when Anna cancels a special dinner with Rick where he was going to propose, he breaks it off with her. He's fed up and she also loses her best friend Sasha. But into work she goes and Wesley asks her to find a vacation cabin in the woods so he and Tommy can have a little time together since his nanny has to leave to help a sick family member. He realizes while a snow storm starts brewing that he forgot his son's inhaler. But Anne with this time off was going to visit her family sees Tommy's inhaler in the office as drives it up to Wesley and Tommy on her way to her family home. But, after bringing it up to them, she is now snowed in with them. And so things begin to change. This is a really sweet romance with very likeable characters that I just had to read it in one sitting! I received this ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Anna has been working for Wesley for a while as his assistant and he totally is taking advantage of her. He is a grumpy, selfish, moody boss that seems to take her and all his office staff for granted. Anna unfortunately doesn't see soon enough how her job is affecting her life and she looses her relationship because of it. She finally comes to the conclusion she wants out and will put in her notice after her bosses vacation. But as Wesley and Tommy (Wesley's son) head off to their vacation she realizes Tommy needs his inhaler. A snowstorm makes her stuck in the cabin with them for a while... but can the snowed in situation cause their frozen hearts to thaw and finally drift to each other? Lots of words are said, fights happen , but also truths unfold. And Wesley will slowly come to realize how dependent he truly is on Anna... but will it be too late?!

Loved this story! I love the whole enemies to lovers vibe and the moment a person has to admit their feelings once and for all!

Anna is Wesley's over worked and under appreciated assistant. When he goes on vacation with his son and forgets something, she decides to take it to him on her way to her parents place and look for a new job. Wesley doesn't know what he's going to do without a nanny now that his had a family emergency when he gets back from vacation. He has a sinking feeling he forgot something but without phone or internet service at the cabin and with the storm...
Why is Anna to the point of quitting? What did he forget that was so important? How do they react when mother nature changes their plans? Will it change attitudes too?.

Anna is the perfect assistant! She does everything necessary to make her boss Wesley be successful. WHY? I think she feels sorry for him as he is raising his son Tommy alone after his wife died. She has cancelled dates time after time with her boyfriend Rick. Finally, when she does it the 12th time, he tells her enough is enough! Now she missed a wonderful expensive dinner and a marriage proposal from Rick! Poor selfless Anna saves her boss when he is in a bind time after time! Maybe when she makes reservations for Wesley to take his young son, Tommy to a winter cabin for the week, she will get a week off too!

I enjoy reading a variety of book genres. Some are thrillers, some are full of action, and some are simple romances. Snowed in with My Grumpy Boss by Shari Blake can be described as a fun romance – light reading with parts that make you laugh and parts that bring tears to your eyes. It was a fast read – the kind of book that makes life a little bit easier and relaxing.
I recently discovered Shari Blake, and I’ve learned I can count on her for a well-written, well-edited story. She is gifted with writing conversation. I especially liked the exchange between Grumpy Wesley and Anna in her role of assistant. I’m looking forward to more of these stories from her to lighten up my days.

This is a fun, entertaining read. Anna and Wesley are interesting, entertaining, relatable, intriguing, fun characters. I enjoyed their romance and the path it took to get to their HEA. These are such fun and interesting characters to spend time with. The secondary characters – especially Tommy – added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The scenes at the cabin will take you on a fun and emotional ride, in the best possible ways. The story is easy to read and get into.

Good, easy read

This was a cute book that swept me away to another world for a time. There were some things that I questioned like how they would know when the sun would come out again if they had no internet And MMC seemed so incompetent at times and very needy. But no one is perfect and I enjoyed the story!

What an enjoyable love story. I enjoyed seeing how Anna begins to soften Wesley’s tough exterior and grouchy demeanor. The dynamic works well for them

This book had a cute premise and had some unexpected moments but I just couldn’t get into the love story. I kept hoping Wesley would become a sweet man - but he went from a total jerk to only occasionally showing the normal amount of decency to be expected from any human being. I didn’t feel happy about him having a romantic relationship with Anna.

Pretty great story! It is a forced proximity stuck in a cabin trope. They’ll either kill each other or fall in love. I love Anna’s relationship with the son! You also really see the good in Wesley through how he cares for his son! There were a lot of ups and downs and it is paced really well! A fun read!
