Some Girls Do

Rate this book
Fashion student Lacey Weston is desperate to leave the city and go home to Jumbuck Springs. Her three older brothers are adamant she’s not. They made a death bed promise to their mother that Lacey would stay the distance at design school and Ethan, the oldest, takes this responsibility very seriously. But Lacey is deeply homesick and determined not to be dissuaded again. She’s also impulsive enough to try anything - even faking a pregnancy.

Ex-cop turned mechanic, Cooper Grainger - one of Ethan’s oldest friends - agrees to watch out for Lacey in the city even though he has a history with her he’d rather forget. How hard could it be, right? But a couple of years later, Coop is over pulling Lacey out of scrapes and cleaning up her messes as she tries to outrun her grief and sense of dislocation. He takes her back to Jumbuck Springs so she can persuade her brothers to let her come home. But things don’t go according to plan. Before Coop knows it Lacey’s pregnant and he’s putting his hand up as the fake baby daddy, filling in for the town mechanic and moving in with her at the local pub.

Lacey is thrilled to have won a reprieve but nothing about the situation sits well with Coop. Least of all having sweet little Lacey Weston as his new roomie…

Coop and Lacey. I feel like I should give this 3 stars because the writing was decent, but I was also disappointed and I am feeling vindictive. I also read most of it on skim mode because there was too much extraneous unimportant info and repetition.
Anyways, May/Dec romance which I love, Coop being 13 years her senior. So at the start (when he still had balls) she's 19 and he's 32. They meet in a bar and she lies about her age. They get busy and have the night of their lives. But the next time they meet, Coop finds out she's 19 AND worse in his eyes, his best friends' little sister. (Why haven't they met before?). So now Coop has lost his nuts and 3 years pass. Lacey is very unhappy. Her brothers kicked her out to college shortly after their mother dies of cancer. She's never had a chance to grieve and she's spinning out of control. Coop gives her a ride home to small town Australian backwoods and one thing leads to another. Somehow she has lied and said she's pregnant and Coop has joined in her lie to be the fake baby's daddy. The author actually pulls off this shenanigan quite well and the story would have been quite enjoyable, if Coop weren't such a wet blanket. The man is mid thirties going on 60. Then when he finally realizes that he loves her, he grows a vagina and I'm skimming ahead at breakneck speed hoping the ending will pay out. Nope. He's a wuss right til the end and Lacey wears the pants in that relationship. I really don't understand why he spends the whole story pushing her away?? Good thing she comes back for him and basically twists his arm... Glad I didn't pay for this one.

Amy Andrews' first book in her Outback Heat series was an easy enjoyable read. Having read several books from her, I have to confess I was expecting a little more steam sooner, but it mattered not as she holds the story together with a likeable cast of characters in a lovely Aussie outback setting.

description

The older brother's best-friend trope is one that forms a staple in my reading diet but the thirteen-year age gap between Cooper and Lacey made this a little different. Grumpy, brooding, sexy and a bit of a knight in shining armour, I liked Coop. Lacey was frustrating with her snap, immature decisions, and I confess she took a little warming to, but she's young, flighty and has three protective older brothers to contend with so she can be forgiven.

"How about you take me home to bed and you can call the shots."

With a good chemistry, this couple fought their feelings but when they do give in they are sexy together. And with Lacey's three older, single brothers featuring throughout, I'm looking forward to seeing where Amy takes the series. 3.5 stars.

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Some Girls Do by Amy Andrews was a delightful and fantastic story and one of the things I loved most was that this author didn’t Americanize her very Australian characters or the story too much thus giving me the opportunity to learn even more fun and colorful Aussie language. This book takes place mostly in the outback with a few chapters in a couple of the larger cities in Australia. As the first book in a series we are introduced to a whole lot of characters but we never lost focus of the main characters or their crazy plight. This book was extremely entertaining, fun to read and sexy as all get out but it also had heart and I very much enjoyed reading it.

Cooper and Lacey meet and have one really explosive night and she disappears leaving him somewhat disappointed until a week later when they meet again under different circumstances and he realizes he slept with his ex-partner and friend’s much younger and just barely legal sister who he was just coerced into “watching after” while she’s in town at design school. A year and a half later, Coop finds himself once again under Lacey’s spell for a completely different reason and their life becomes one complication after the other.

Cooper is one of those really good guy heroes that I simply can’t get enough of. Oh he’s sexy as hell and he knows his way around the bedroom, but he’s also someone who will do anything for a friend despite how it affects him. The fact that he has never gotten over his one night with Lacey puts him at a big disadvantage because he really is ready to go the extra mile to help her in any way.

At first I really wasn’t sure about Lacey and while I didn’t hate her I didn’t love her either, but she seriously grew on me as the book went on. I began to understand how devastated her mother’s death was to her and what she perceived as her brothers abandoning her. She acted out and did things like pick up strange men in bars (like Coop) and when she realized she had really messed up her life she asked Coop to take her home and to have her back when she told her family she was there to stay for awhile, she just had no idea how much her move would affect him. The thing is once she was home, I think we really began to see the true Lacey and she wasn’t all that different from Cooper; she was happy to pitch in and help others and loved being a part of her small community again.

For a good part of this story these two spent a lot of time together but not time as a couple but during that time they got to know one another a little better. Lacey saw what a great guy Cooper was and while he drove her crazy by not giving in to his attraction for her; she admired the fact that he was an honorable guy. Cooper watched Lacey blossom into a confidant woman and one who was finally happy and settled. Their admiration for each other grew by leaps and bounds and that eventually spilled over into some hot and sexy times.
While it was evident they both had pretty strong feelings for each other Cooper also knew that because she was so much younger there would come a time he would have to let her live her dreams and that really spoke of his character.

I loved these two together from the start and I enjoyed watching them through the roller coaster ride of their time together including the very happy ending for both of them. Fun, enticing and sensual you don’t want to miss Some Girls Do, the first story in Amy Andrews Outback Heat series.

I knew this book would annoy me with its fake pregnancy. But I bought it and read it and enjoyed it and was annoyed by it anyway. Amy Andrews is a fun author to read and I was very much in the mood for a book set in Australia and something that was fairly light and fluffy (so no 'Rural Romance' angst)

Yep, the fake pregnancy shitted me. Lacey is a bit of a turd and it turns out she has been out of control for quite some time - always relying on Coop to come to the rescue. I wish there had been a huge amount of time spent in this era of the story, obviously Coop developed quite a devotion to Lacey during these shenanigans and it would have been fun to see it happen.

Coop is, 13 years older than Lacey and he's a really lovely guy with quite a background (more of that would have been very welcome!). I love books with a bit of an age gap between the protagonists - it's a delicious kind of thrill.

Oh yeah - I had another major issue with this book. Lacey had a lover and when it ended she went around to Coop, and had a cry and then they get on with the story. The newly-ex lover is really never mentioned again. She spent no further time thinking about how she was betrayed (in a shocking way I might add), and she goes straight into lust mode for Coop. Isn't that kind of strange? This book reads like it has had large bits cut right out of it.

Lacey Weston lost her mother and really needs to be home with her three brothers but they made a promise to their mother that she would go away to design college no matter what. Her reaction to the exile is to act up and rebel as much as she can. One night of rebelling will cause her lots of problems. She, at nineteen, seduces Cooper Grainger, not knowing that he is her oldest brother’s best friend. Cooper has no idea who she is but after one night is certain she is the ONE he has been waiting for forever. When they meet because her brother wants Cooper to keep an eye on her, emotions and feelings can barely be contained. It takes a confrontation with her brothers, herself and Cooper to take the lid off the situation and open a Pandora’s box.
This is a fun read with lots of crossed lines and secret moves. I really loved it.

I think Coop exaggerates things, "he raked his hand through his hair. “Oh God,” he groaned, “I’m going to hell. And do you know how?” he demanded. “Your brother is, quite rightly, going to kill me and, then, when he personally drags my sorry a** to the fiery depth of eternal damnation, he’s going to kill me all over again.” I really enjoyed this book, I fell in love with Coop he was a good man.

Not for me. This was a freebie and I downloaded it because I enjoyed Nothing But Trouble by the same author. Very little plot in this one and a very immature heroine. Also the age-gap trope is one I find very icky. Maybe 13 years isn't all that much of a gap but this young woman made the gap seem even wider than 13. The whole story felt like a pervy uncle getting it on with a sexy niece.

This book starts out exciting and with a bang. I mean that literally, a bar pick up, sexy bang and disappearing act. I loved it and loved the surprise revisit when the truth is revealed and things were not as they seemed. This book has lots of things that hit my thrill center. There is a 13 year age gap, best friends sister, small town romance and some heat.

I wish Cooper had been a stronger hero. He was a bit of a pushover by an attention seeking brat. I wish he had acted upon the thought that Lacey could do with an ass slap. He really let her push him around when he should have called her on her bs. However, by the end she had grown up. I enjoyed this read and was intrigued by the brothers, who will make up the rest of this series.

It is so steamy, so good. I am immersed in the story of the family and town. Originally, I was turned off because it was a new adult story. I dont usually like them assuming there is a lot of angst. (there is no angst in this) But then I read the second book in the series first, Some Girls Don't, and I just had to read this. Novellas seem to be Amy Andrews forte: a shorter novel that packs a lot of emotional punch and a dash (or ten) of steamy sexiness for you to come back for more..and more..and more. I am so heavily invested in this family I have to read the next one: Some Guys Need A Lot Of Loving.

This was a pretty good story. I liked Coop and Lacey and found their story enjoyable.

Lacey is a 21 year old design student that's going to school in Brisbane. Her father died when she was 2 so she never really knew him but her mother died from cancer just a couple years before the story begins and it caused Lacey much grief. She wanted to stay in her home town (Jumbuck Springs) for a while and grieve but her brothers pushed her away to school, not caring how she felt about it because they'd made a promise to their mother that they were determined to fulfill.

Coop is a mechanic that has a shop in Brisbane. Coop used to be a cop and was partners with Ethan, Lacey's brother (he never met Lacey) until he was shot and left the force and then took over his dad's mechanic shop. Coop ended up meeting Lacey in Brisbane and got lassoed into being a "babysitter" for her by Ethan...much to Coop's dismay.

Because of her unhappiness in Brisbane, Lacey tended to get a bit wild. Not completely immature but she felt something was missing and in the search for what she was missing, she made some mistakes that were understandable...especially at her age (between 19-21 years old). Things come to a head for Lacey and she decides that she's just too unhappy in Brisbane and decides to leave school for a year and go home. Coop offers to help her and ends up driving her back to Jumbuck Springs. Unfortunately, Lacey's brothers are still pretty uncaring about whether she wants to live in Brisbane or not and in the heat of the moment, Lacey lies and says she's pregnant (as a way to be allowed to stay). Coop doesn't realize it's a lie and offers himself as the baby-daddy until he can figure things out...which ends with them staying together in Jumbuck Springs while they figure out how to fix things.

Staying together ends up being rather difficult for Coop and Lacey but Coop is a good guy and keeps his hands to himself, thinking he's doing the right thing. Meanwhile, Lacey is very happy to be home and starts settling in Jumbuck Springs again. The Coop/Lacey relationship stays platonic for a while but there's a strong attraction there and eventually they succumb to their physical attraction. Of course that doesn't mean everything is all figured out because they don't really talk...so when things come about that require decisions, some drama/angst ends up getting in the way. Thankfully, Coop and Lacey are able to work things out and in the end, they're together and heading towards a HEA together.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. Lacey seemed a immature at times and she was a bit but not really. Mostly it seemed to be her issues with dealing with her brothers and the situation they put her in that she didn't have much control over...emotional blackmail can be rough to deal with. But I did like her overall, especially towards the end. I liked Coop pretty well except for when he decided to make a move that would decide both of their futures by assuming Lacey's feelings and that he knew what was best for her. I suppose it was supposed to be nice but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way...thankfully, Lacey came to her senses. LOL. Overall, I liked this story pretty well and would be going on to the next book in the series except I already read it. :)

This book is dealing with a little sad theme like the main character lost mother at the begging of the story and after two and half year jump they mention her too. Like her mother wanted her to go desingn school and asked on the death bed to her brother to promise her that they send Lacey to school. Like, give her time to get sad. That the problem she was unhappy and they always send her they just because of that promise even though she is sad there and she wants to come home. Some much that she lied about pregnancy and that father is Coop. Yeah, her brother's best friend who is she attracted to so much and I guess the only person who listens to her because her brother doesn't at all. The chemistry between Coop and her is sweet. He doesn't want to destroy his relationship with Eliott (brother) just so he can be with her. Nop he will not but again he was too deep in feeling before he knows who she is and that same with her.

REVIEW:  SOME GIRLS DO (OUTBACK HEAT #1)  BY AMY ANDREWS

Some Girls Do by Amy AndrewsMy rating: 5 of 5 starsFor Lacey the last couple years of her life has been full of upheaval. The loss of her mother when she needs her most has left her spiraling out of control. Her emotions are all over the place, her decisions are proving risking and the people she is supposed to be apple to count on have turned that back on her. In her mind she is on her own. Coop sees a kindred spirit in the tortured young woman with the bad attitude. He has been dealing with a number of crisis in his own life. Lacey brings out his protective instincts. Among other things. A lost of control, a surprise revelation and the differences in their ages are obstacles he can't ignore. Facing fears, coping with loss and growing up are all explored within this novel. I received an ARC of Some Girls Do by Amy Andrews in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. For the first in a series it absolutely zings from the very first page.

Cooper is sitting in a Brisbane bar, a former police officer he has become a mechanic after being shot twice in the line of duty. Across the bar he gets the come on from a beautiful woman, Tracy, she seems to be suggestion a quickie in the toilets but he sits tight and they end up spending the night together.

A few days later, Cooper meets his best friend Ethan in the same bar. Ethan asks Coop to look after his baby sister, Lacey, who is in college in Brisbane. When Ethan asks why Coop is distracted he replies that he thinks he might have met "The One". Of course we know where this is going, Tracy is actually Lacey and instead of being 25 as claimed is actually 19.

A couple of years pass. Lacey occasionally asks Coop for help, usually of the "my car broke down can you give me a lift" variety, but sometimes of the "I'm drunk and made some bad decisions" variety. After her long time boyfriend turns out to be very married, Lacey turns up at Coop's door, cold, wet and distraught. After this latest catastrophe Lacey is determined to move back home - no matter what her domineering older brothers have to say.

Of course it all goes wrong as expected when Lacey's three older brothers try to guilt trip her into finishing college. When Ethan says the only way she is coming home is with a degree, married or pregnant Lacey lies and says she is pregnant. Coop assumes that the father must be the married low life and jumps into the breach when the shouting starts by saying he is the father.

Soon Coop and Lacey are living together in a hotel suite above the pub, pretending they are a couple whilst trying to keep their hands off each other.

I loved Coop, Lacey was sweet as a young woman who had made some silly life choices and whose brothers wouldn't listen to what she wanted. Of course what she wants is Coop, but he is adhering to the bro code that you never sleep with your best friend's little sister. Until he's not!

Although everything is a foregone conclusion I loved the way it got there and this was just as good as the last book (which I read first!).

Note: This ARC was provided by Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Some Girls Do is the first book in the Outback Heat series about four siblings from Jumbuck Springs, Australia from bestselling author Amy Andrews. This series starter has the youngest and only girl in the Weston brood, Lacey, falling for her oldest brother's best friend, Cooper Grainger. This was an entertaining take on the falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling trope, especially with the age difference being the widest gap I've come across in recent memory. There were moments that I couldn't but think that Lacey was being rather selfish and reckless, not taking into consideration the consequences of her actions, especially since poor Coop ended up swooping in and saving her on more than one occasion. Of course, the fact that she's only twenty-one plays a part in her lack of maturity, but she does grow on you.

Aside from Coop and Lacey's love story, the book introduces readers to the rest of the Weston family: Ethan, Marcus, and Jarrod. I know that Ethan's the oldest and Lacey's the youngest, but I'm not sure whose older between Marcus and Jarrod. Among the three brothers, Ethan was easily the most memorable one because of his connection to Coop. It's pretty clear that there's something simmering between him and his close friend Jemima Jane "JJ" Ericson, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading their story, which is slated to be the fourth and final release in the series. This is shaping up to be a fun series, especially with the siblings having seemingly very different personalities, and thankfully, we don't have long to wait for the next three releases! Thank you, Tule Publishing! Some Girls Do gets four stars. ♥

When a lie gets blown out of proportion, could anything good possibly come out of it?

Lacey Weston had her reasons for wanting to leave Brisbane where she was attending design school and go back home to Jumbuck Springs. But when she got home, her brothers wanted her to turn around and go right back.

Cooper Grainger used to be Lacey's bother Ethan's partner and he was asked to keep an eye on Lacey while she was away from home and in school. She might need someone's help and her brothers wouldn't be there for her. When Lacey comes to him the night after she breaks up with her boyfriend and says she wants to go home, Coop takes her.

Coop didn't plan on getting caught up in the middle of a family mess, but when he saw them gang up on Lacey, he had to step in. Lacey had lied about being pregnant so her brothers would let her stay home. When they demanded to know who the father was, Coop said it was him to put an end to the discussion and so they would leave Lacey alone.

Lacey quickly becomes popular in her home town after she reconstructs a damaged wedding gown for a friend and the story makes it in a magazine. When dream job is presented to Lacey, she can't say no, even if it means leaving her home town and Coop behind and moving to Melbourne. She has to tell her brothers the truth about not being pregnant so she can take on this new job. But what will happen to the relationship Lacey and Coop have started during the time they have been living together?

Sometimes you have to let go of who you love so they can be all they are meant to be.

This steamy story is one not to be missed. Lacey and Coop were meant to be together even though Coop was a lot older than Lacey. The passion they shared was intense. I can't wait to read the next books in this series.

3,5 stars sweet and romantic read, rounded up because of the ozzie setting and the great writing.

With a little over 180 pages, there isn't much room to add real character growth for both hero and heroine and a fully developped cast of characters, but with the pages available, miss Andrews wrote an engaging story that I liked a lot.

It had ozzie background (which I love), a hot and dependable hero (who doesn't want that), a feisty heroine in a best friend of brother loves little sister story, a huge age difference adding extra credibility to the objections of the brothers, an hilarious mess of misunderstandings that somehow was totally credible and all that with great writing skills. The heroine grew up in this story which was sweet. But ofcourse it was over way too soon.

This was the first book I read by miss Andrews (a freeby on Amazon) and it won't be my last. In fact I've decided to order the next book in this series right after I finish this review. I was planning to start with one of the many books on my TBR, but while writing this, I changed my mind. It was over too soon and reading the other books will keep the small outback village alive a little bit longer.

So if in doubt, don't, and if you love those rugged ozzie boys, don't even think twice.
Enjoy.

My second book in this series that I have liked. Likeable characters and interesting storyline that kept me glued the whole way thru. The angry sex scene was a winner :)

But, I have noticed this authors pattern now. The couple hooks up in the beginning, then they realize they are forbidden to each other, but must play along at a fake relationship... Which I love in a storyline... but this author makes them wait a bit too long before breaking down and having an accidental kiss, or touch, etc. Don't get me wrong, there is a good storyline thru out the whole book, but I wish she would pace the romance part a little better. Anyway, once she has them finally re-hook back up, it is described fairly well, but then after that its just described as "the next few weeks, they had long sleepless nights" (for example.) So kind of a closed door feeling after their first time together. Anyway, I love her storytelling and will keep looking for more of her titles.

I really enjoyed Some Girls Do.

The storyline was entertaining and it captured my interest from the first page, I didn't want to put my kindle down. The characters were likable and very relatable.
I loved the chemistry between Cooper and Lacey. They were perfect for each other.

Great start to the Outback Heat series, looking forward to reading the next book.

Overall if you're looking for a heartwarming and entertaining read with characters that will touch your heart you'll love Some Girls Do.

Lacey lost her mom and her brothers pushed her to go to college. Lacey is kind of a wild child and when her brother puts his good friend as her babysitter while she is at college she gets irate. Lacey's brother doesn't realize that Lacey met her babysitter, Cooper, the week before. Cooper helps Lacey at school and when she tells her brothers a lie, he sticks up for her. Cooper is a great guy that has had some bad luck. These two get close when they go to Lacey's hometown. It was a good ending!

Amy Andrews is a fairly new to me author but I've loved everything I've read of hers. I loved Some Girls Do! And it's the first in a new series, which makes me happy.:) Loved Lacey and Cooper. Some Girls Do was sexy, smart, witty and fun. I'm so happy I found another author to love! I'll be reading a lot more of her books.

Not a big fan of Lacey and her lack of maturity. Cooper is better but he caters to her capricious nature by playing along which as first is endearing and then not so much. The writing is good, it's just the characters I had trouble with.

I really enjoyed this book. The pace and tension between Lacey and Coop was masterful. A great easy read romance with a super hot man to set your fantasies on fire, who doesn't love an honorable gentleman.

A quick and easy read.

Loved the characters and their chemistry. I liked that it jumped a few years from their first contact before things grew with them.

A fun read. I loved Lacey & Coop and all the twists and turns they went through right from their first meeting.
