Nope...that can't be the way this volume ends! Why didn't anyone tell me that Black Butler gets this crazy. Here I thought that this was literally only going to focus on the relationship between the Butler and Ciel. I had no idea that readers were going to be exposed to a murder mystery that played on the story of Jack the Ripper. That ending ya'll!! I could have never in a million years seen that coming. While I thought that the pacing was a little off with this (the middle had some really slow parts), my overall enjoyment of this volume was definitely present. I was shocked at the turn of events and I definitely need to get my hands on volume 3.

Jack the Ripper arc is one of the best arcs ever. It has new characters, new intensity, and new sadness.

1. Sebastian is really, really, REALLY creepy.

Like, lady, no. Just. No. Cut it out. Sebastian is a mid twenties looking creepy demon butler. Ciel is a twelve year old boy (who is, granted, also kind of creepy and a demon). STOP. NOW.

Don't you hate it when the supporting characters are portrayed as cardboards just to make the lead look three dimensional? I know that the maid, the chef, and the gardener are shown to be bad at their work just to showcase Sebastian's brilliance, but I really can't buy into it. If they are highly incompetent that they cannot even do the basics of their job right and require Sebastian to save the day, how are they not fired? Also, why would they choose a job that they are utterly unsuitable for? If Sebastian can clean up their mess and also perform his tasks splendidly, then why won't Ciel ask him to run the whole household singlehandedly?

Somehow I was totally wrong in guessing who the killer is. Very nice little twist!
Needles to say that this volume was very entertaining. The pacing was much better than the first one, and the art aren't as cluttered.
Cannot wait to dive into volume 3.

The Rise Of Grell Sutcliff.
This is a series which continues to get better with each volume. The main case here is the Jack the Ripper case. I won't reveal anything but it's a good take on it. Humour is used early in this volume demonstrating Sebastian's skills as a butler.
I watched the anime before reading the manga, and whilst the anime is good the manga is better. The elements of humour, fantasy and horror which make up this fantastic series really stand out in the manga. And the art is exceptional. It really adds an extra dimension to the series and it's great at conveying what the characters are feeling etc. And Sebastian is even more of a temptation on paper.
This volume also contains the famous scenes of Ciel in a dress.

Este manga está muy internaste, se plantea un caso que los protagonistas necesitan resolver, por lo que el manga se vuelve un poco más policíaco. Además que es un caso muy interesante porque es bastante famoso. También se esbozan nuevos personajes y e comienzo de una mitología bastante profunda que me muero por conocer.

Ok este me gustó mucho. Me dieron ganas de ver el anime.
Lately me siento muy burnout de haber consumido tanto contenido profundo/clásico/filosófico/etc. durante tanto tiempo y sin descanso kakzkzkzk. I mean, ADORO esa clase libro y películas, pero me siento un poco espantado de agarrar una novela sobre gente deprimida porque me recuerda a tiempos en los que tenía la cabeza mal.

A ver si nos entendemos... Este segundo tomo fue millones de veces mejor que el primero, la trama comienza a cobrar fuerza y el caso de Jack el destripador me encanta (plus: aparece mi querido Grell). Soy consiente de que en sí no es lo mejor del mundo, hay cosas que pasan que son muy ridículas y que solo sirven para mostrar la genialidad de Sebastian (cosa que es muy importante, lo sé, sobre todo para lo que se viene después, pero al principio puede resultar un poco extraño y estoy tratando de juzgar este tomo como algo individual sin tener en cuenta que sé lo que pasa más adelante en la trama).
Si tengo quejas seguro se estarán preguntando por qué aún así le puse las 5 estrellas, pues... ¡Porque lo disfruté un montón y esas pequeñas "cositas sin sentido" son compensadas con creces por unos personajes muy interesantes, escenas sumamente divertidas y una trama cada vez más interesante!
Qué les puedo decir, soy fan de este simple mayordomo.
Si tengo quejas seguro se estarán preguntando por qué aún así le puse las 5 estrellas, pues... ¡Porque lo disfruté un montón y esas pequeñas "cositas sin sentido" son compensadas con creces por unos personajes muy interesantes, escenas sumamente divertidas y una trama cada vez más interesante!

As is typical with the Black Butler series, volume 2 starts of with light fluffing, the day in, day out routines of the phantom hive Butler. The other servants of the house have no real skills which leaves everything up to Sebastion. As the story continues on, things become darker, dancing on elements of investigating the killings of Jack the Ripper, notorious serial murderer.
Black Butler is reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes, which I adore, as a detective series. As the book goes on, things become darker and not what they seem. Toboso is very good at hiding the “suspects” under your nose and pulling the carpet out from under your feet. And as typical in Black Butler, toward the ends of the book, things become gory. What will happen with Grelle and Madam Red? Just my type of finish to an already intriguing tale.

I consider volume two to be the real beginning to this series. Volume one sets up the characters, but this volumes dishes out what kind of arcs we can expect for the rest of the series. Which always have an air of mystery to them.
This arc focuses on the Jack the Ripper case, a strong beginning arc for the series. We also have additional supporting casts introduced. Lau who is a Chinese man running an opium den, Madame Red who is Ciel's aunt and doctor, and Grell who at the moment is a very lackluster butler. This novel is great at setting up the plot and making the reader want to continue so they to can know who Jack the Ripper really is!

I love the devil of a butler. I do not love the cast of characters in this manga. If it weren't for the charismatic butler with his secretive, wicked smile and his dashing ways, I would not be continuing the series.
I found the premise of the story great - the hunt for Jack the Ripper. The execution of the story was a bit confusing and I was often distracted by other things going on in the background of the panels. At times it was a chore to get through. I hope #3 is better.

The famous "Jack the Ripper" appears in this case. There's new butler that Ciel's fiance has now and is extremely dramatic. Grell Sutclif, the shinigami, or in translation, grim reaper, is the official "Jack the Ripper". He leads in and kills prostitutes and when he was finally discovered, his boss, William T. Spears, another grim reaper, shows up and a huge fight between Grell and Sebastian occurs. The story lines are so amazing!

An unexpected Christmas present, and I did enjoy it, but what I'm interested in is why Ciel has made a covenant with Sebastian, and that was only hinted at.
I'm still going to give it 4 stars though, purely for Sebastian's love of cats, as I am known to react the same way in the presence of felines :-)!

I loved it. Heh. It was such a fun read. I loved Ceil in disguise, haha. It was precious tosee him dressed in . And I haven't guess who the killer is. I just haven't seen it coming. So a huge plus for it. I thought I loved the first one, and I did - it was cute and fun. But this one I've loved even more. The pacing, the drawing, the mystery. Loved it! I'm a big fan on Sebastian. Love him in this volume a lot.

Le tome devient très intéressant dès que l'enquête sur Jack l'éventreur commence! Et les dessins sont vraiment somptueux. Ce deuxième tome introduit de nouveaux personnages, dont un qui est l'un des mes petits chouchous

Okay this is my fourth time attempting to write this review. UGH. Why does it tend to disappear on me.
Anyway, I would like to say this volume was a major improvement on the last volume. I mean it is not really fair to compare the two but sorry, I gotta.
Firstly, you know I fancy Jack the Ripper stories. My, oh my, was this one good. ;)
But I like to mention again how unnecessary the "servants screw ups" are. *sigh* I mean I understand by Yana put them in the story but gosh is it every boring? I know Yana wants to demonstrate how talented Sebastian is and increase his every-readers-want-him factor but we all get it. I mean I am not going to lie, I like Sebastian in an apron but it really drags on the story. Okay let's get to the good parts, shall we?
In this volume we, as the readers, went to quite a lot of places. We went to see The Undertaker and we went to a ball. Quite swell right? The ball was grand, and I mean we get to see Ciel in a gown, and my was he cute. And of course I won't forget about Sebastian, he...well, shall we say that ladies, you won't have any ovaries left (or uterus...did you catch my lame joke?). <---I am weird.
We got to see a bit more about Ciel's past which keeps the mystery alive within the manga. I mean I don't really care that much about this past but it is always good to be reminded that he does have a past.
I mean the mystery behind Jack the Ripper was good, it wasn't on the level of Detective Conan but it was surprising to say the least. I enjoyed reading how cunning the young Earl Ciel Phantomhive was; he was, well, delicious. (I am not a pedo ;A;). Anyway, back to the story, where was I? Oh right, surprising. Who "Jack" was, was indeed surprising and thrilling. And wow did this volume end in a cliffhanger, a smexy one at that.

Love the fashion in this series. Really, gosh, I want all the outfits! I don't care if some of them are for males, I want them ALL!
Haha, you can see the yaoi undertone in this volume. I mean I know that the first volume had a bit, but if you missed it in the first one, you won't miss it here. It was sweet and stimulating. (Oh god, what did I just write?! ^//////o////^ *runs off to hide*)

Mixing history and and fantasy is always a sensitive experiment, especially in the case of actual figures. It seems to always come off flawlessly or seem ridiculous. Black Butler does a grand job mixing Jack The Ripper into it’s world, even driving one to want to spend some time wondering if The Ripper really was some sort of demon...?
