Janet and Edward are happy to return to Doveby Dale. Neither is interested in continuing to work with the agency while Mr. Brown is still in charge. The carriage house project has been completed, and they are both happy to spend some time settling into their new home.
Things don’t go to plan, though. Within days of their return to Doveby Dale, they get invited to a party at the country estate where Mr. Jones has been staying while he’s on a leave of absence from the agency. A weekend in the country sounds enjoyable enough, but Janet and Edward haven’t been in Parton-on-Trent for long before they stumble across a dead body.
One of Mr. Jones’s houseguests has been murdered. Mr. Jones is convinced that Mr. Brown is behind the murder, but Brown has an unbreakable alibi. While Janet and Edward are reluctant to get involved in a murder investigation, it quickly becomes obvious that if they don’t find the killer, Mr. Jones is going to be blamed for Adam Miles’s untimely death.
Diana started self-publishing in 2013 and over a decade later she now has over a hundred books available for readers. Writing remains her passion and she has no plans to stop writing in the foreseeable future.
Diana grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, and earned a history degree from Allegheny College. She met her husband, an Englishman, while living and working in Washington, DC. Following their marriage, she moved to Derbyshire. A short while later, the happy couple moved to the Isle of Man.
During their years on the island, Diana and her husband welcomed two children, and Diana completed a master’s degree in the history of the island. In 2008, the family made the decision to move to the US. Now empty-nesters, Diana and her husband are living in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York, and contemplating moving somewhere that doesn’t get snow.
Diana also writes mystery/thrillers set in the not-too-distant future as Diana X. Dunn and Young Adult fiction as D.X. Dunn.
Mr. Jones hosted a weekend house party so he could get to know the younger agents before he comes back to work. It turns deadly. The underlying purpose of the house party is for Edward and Janet to help Mr. Jones find an agent (or agents) that are stealing from the agency. Then unfortunately, one agent is killed and all are implicated. This book turns out to be a very good mystery with all involved. Enjoy!
Usually done as a joke, a recipient receives a large package which contains only a small item. This book epitomizes the same illusion. Renowned for literary waffle to ensure a self-prescribed measure of content, this book majors in having one of the most extensive introductions in literary history. Almost the entire first half of the book.
I always enjoy Edward and Janet Bennett’s adventures. This one was different. It was fun seeing Edward trying to be unkind to Janet and nor always managing it. They are the sweetest couple. I can’t wait for the next one.
Wonderful double mystery with my favorite "old" married couple! Interestingly enough, this time someone else solved the murder! But very enjoyable all the same!
4 and a half stars. This was another enjoyable story from Diana Xarissa. I took half a star off because it wasn't quite as good as usual, although still very good.
