Beautiful and painful. This is not something to read while commuting to work. The writing is intimate and demands a quiet space to process the words and feel all the feelings.

Not only is Kaur courageous in facing her challenges but also in sharing her emotional journey with us. The unique syntax in her prose poems reflects the welter of pain and confused feelings that she felt as she grew well into adulthood without fully understanding the impact from the losses, the entrapment, the self-sabotage, and loneliness she experienced. That is, until she began to unearth and process her memories with their hold on her life. That she made this journey to resilience in her own person is a most remarkable achievement, and so is this aptly titled memoir in verse and prose.

Gorgeous, aching, raw. An absolute masterpiece from Kaur, and hopefully not the last we see from her.

This poet is remarkable, both on the page and in a reading. Thawing allows the reader nowhere to hide.
