Realms of the Covenant #1

The Frostbound Queen

Rate this book
Keep the cold. I’ve always understood my duty. As heir to the Winter Court, I must be ready to take my father’s place and keep the realm safe under a blanket of frost. But my father never taught me how to protect my people. That role has fallen to his best friend, Ronan, who agreed to serve as my guardian after my father grew ill. Charming and dangerous, Ronan hasn’t let illegitimacy or family tragedy stop his rise to power. A master of the elements, he’s a faithful ally.

Until my father dies.

Pushed from the throne, I run to the one place Ronan won’t venture. Crossing into the human lands will weaken my magic, but I need new allies. I find one in Sigurn Brighthelm, the dark-eyed rebel Prince of Nordlinga. Sigurn is no stranger to power. But as I discover too late, he’s no stranger to Ronan, either.

Now I’m caught between two men with conflicting desires. As battle lines are drawn and secrets are revealed, I’m determined to claim my crown. My freedom—and my kingdom—hang in the balance. But as passions heat up, I’m not sure the ice I’ve built around my heart can endure.

Because ice doesn’t always thaw. Sometimes, it shatters.

I was expecting a story full of betrayal, anger, and a quest for revenge, and instead, I got some miscommunication with a side of insta-love and smut that eventually replaced the plot. It started well, but I lost interest halfway through, and once the smut replaced the plot I had to force myself to continue reading.

Here is what happens *mild spoilers in the next few paragraphs*:

Princess Liria’s parents went into a sorrow-sleep that is not uncommon for elves after they go through a horrible event. At 11, she is left under the care of Ronan, her father’s best friend. He will act as her guardian and help raise her until her father comes out of his catatonic state.

Ten years later, Liria’s grown up and she realizes one day that she is attracted to Ronan and might even love him. Ronan, who has been distant up until then decides to tell Liria how he is obsessed and in love with her, and that they should marry.

After her parents die, Liria learns that Ronan plans to steal her birthright and become King. Liria runs away and into the arms of dashing human King Sigurn. Lyria decides to seduce Sigurn so he will help her in return, but she also realizes that she can’t resist him and is developing feelings for him after having spent only a handful of hours with him.

Liria finds out that the big betrayal (you know, the one that was promising angst and thirst for revenge) was in fact only good old miscommunication. She decides to forgive Ronan because she loves him and he loves her, so they are going to marry and live happily ever after.

Liria is also in love with Sigurn (hello insta-love), but thankfully, they can all live happily ever after in a throuple that feels forced. The plot takes the backseat for a while and there is smut and more smut until the characters remember that they need to defeat the big bad guys trying to invade Sigurn’s castle before they can have their happily ever after, which they do without much trouble.

The end.
End of mild spoiler.

The world-building is interesting, and I would have loved to know more about the other courts and their politics. I had to download the Kindle so I could look at the map because it was hard to picture the layout of the land. This book is the first of the series, but it reads as a standalone, and the next book will follow new characters, so hopefully, those who will read the next book will be able to discover more about the world-building and politics.

Besides the insta-love and lack of angst, anger, and revenge that would have made the plot much more interesting, the characters were all bland and lacked depth. I couldn’t connect to any of them and didn’t care about what happened to them or their love life. Lyria was a good main character I guess, but nothing was amazing about her. Ronan and Sigurn were unidimensional and I didn’t care about them at all. The fact that Ronan has been a father figure to Liria since she was 11 also made it hard for me to get invested in their romance and enjoy the spicier moments between them.

At least, the smut is good and spicy, but while some scenes were smooth and flowed well with the story, others felt a little forced. It’s as if the author absolutely wanted to add those spicy moments to the plot, even if it didn’t 100% fit with the relationship development. The insta-love between Lyria and Sigurn was the main issue, but the sudden admission of romantic feelings between Sigurn and Ronan was not the best way to make me care about them for sure.

While I typically love books of this nature, I've been experiencing a bit of a reading slump lately, which affected my overall experience with this one. Although I didn't love it, I still found it enjoyable. In my opinion, it could benefit from having a bit more depth and oomph. Nonetheless, I found it to be an entertaining and steamy read overall. I look forward to revisiting it once I'm out of my slump and updating my rating accordingly.

If you're a fan of steamy romantasy with MMF, MM, and MFM then give this novel a try!

***Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Pennza, and Dreamscape Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this spicy audioobook.

Like I often do I went into this book knowing little next to nothing of the plot and I definitely enjoyed the ride.

The Frostbound Queen is a standalone spicy fantasy about Liria, the only daughter of the King and Queen of winter. When her parents succumb so their sorrow, Liria is forced to learn to use her powers to control the Frost that protects Winter fro the humans.
At eleven she accept the offer of her fathe´s best friend, Lord Ronan, to become her guardian and train her to be Queen.

Without going too much into details and spoil the plot, I just want to say that I loved how this book evolved the relationships between the characters so seamlessly from FM, to another FM, to MM and finally MMF!
it was hot and i love a good polyamory trouple!!!!

The only reason why I gave it 3 starts it´s because Ronan could have been anyone else but her guardian. That felt a lot like grooming since Liria goes and lives with his since she is 12. (I know she is 22 now and that we are reading about nearly immortal elvs here, but it still felt too much).

This author is said to write MMF romance like no other and I have to agree! 😍 This series had me by the throat from the very first page, the dynamic between princess Liria, her guardian Ronan and the forbidden King from the human realm is impeccable! 🙌🏻 prepare yourselves for a character driven story with a perfect blend of spice, angst, betrayal, plot twists and swoony love!

After her parents succumbed to the sorrow sleep, Liria’s mentorship was taken up by Ronan. He’s her guardian and she is his ward, so anything more between them wouldn’t be appropriate… but these two secretly burn for one another. 🔥 That is, until her father dies and Ronan makes a move for the crown. I loooove the treachery trope and the author pulled it off so well that one moment I was “ok he’s blacklisted I’m never forgiving him!” And the next I was “aww let’s give him another chance?” 😂

Liria and Ronan go head to head in heated arguments that you aren’t sure if they will kill or devour each other 👀 their moments were seriously my favorites of the story! To find a way around Ronan’s treachery, Liria escapes to the human realm where she meets their prince, and sparks fly! I went in blindly so at first I thought it was a love triangle so imagine the happy jumps my heart did when while reading it suddenly turned into a why-choose romance 🙌🏻❤️

What you can expect:
🖤MMF Romance
🖤 all the spice!
🖤 age gap
🖤 “good girl”
🖤 he’s obsessed
🖤 Royalty
🖤 Ice Queen

The Frostbound Queen started off strong but lost me when the plot got drowned in spice and insta-love.

Liria’s guardian, Ronan, who raised her, suddenly confesses his love, which felt pretty uncomfortable given their history. She then runs to King Sigurn, and in no time, they’re in a love triangle that turns into a throuple. The characters were flat, and the romance felt forced. The world-building had potential, but it wasn’t explored much, and the focus on smut took away from the story.

If you’re into heavy spice and insta-love, this might be your thing, but it wasn’t for me.

Vibes: MMF, elves!!!, guardian/ward, enemies to lovers

Heat Index: 9/10

The Basics:

Elven princess Liria is meant to inherit her father's throne—but when he dies, she's confronted with the realities of her own power, leaving a vacuum open for his friend (and her guardina) Ronan to step in. Fleeing to the human lands, Liria meets the charismatic Prince Sigurn. Torn between her long-simmering feelings for Ronan—unsure of whether she should even trust him—and her new connection with Sigurn, Liria is even more thrown when it turns out the men know each other... and the threats to her throne may be more complex than she realized.

The Review:

It's always lovely to pick up a book thinking it's a love triangle, when in fact... It's MMF! Yes yes, Sigurn and Ronan know each other INDEED, and swords do cross (quite a bit) and everyone is in love with everyone at the end, so... have no fear triangle-haters. This is the whole thing.

I don't hate triangles, so while I was happy that this turned out to be a triad romance (which I love quite a bit) I was honestly more worried about the elf thing. Elves can be really hit or miss for me—but these were ROYAL elves, and therefore I was willing to play ball.

There was really no need to fear. The elf stuff was well done, and not overly... elven. You get some politicking, some fighting for the throne, and some cool ice powers. But it's not Lord of the Rings; I mean, it's VERY far from that, all things considered. So if you're a little worried about how elfy this is going to get, I'd say that you're going to be pleased here.

I'd never read Amy Pennza before, and she has a quick, snappy, engaging writing style that pulled me in from the beginning. Her writing flows, her dialogue is fun, and I'd say that this reads pretty smoothly overall. I can't say that this is a total "one-handed read", because honestly? You get a good chunk of plot here. Like, yeah, the plot ultimately kind of leads to us getting these three into bed together, but like... There's betrayal. There are blood vows. I actually really liked some of the worldbuilding aspects. Basically: if you want your triad books to have actual substance, you'll get that here (if not quite as much as you would with, say, a Sierra Simone book).

Where I do have my quibbles are really in the character dynamics. I love poly romances. I love MMF. It is very difficult to write it without the heat being prioritized over the relationship development, which leads to one or two dynamics being emphasized over the other.

Here's where I think we had some stumbling blocks, to be honest. I was immediately drawn to Liria and Ronan's bond—if you aren't into guardian/ward stuff, then look away, because he has known her since she was a kid, and he is her dad's best friend. The book is very upfront about all of that. The thing is that this gives us a lot of layers to work with. They're conflicted, they're drawn to each other. You can feel the years of tension. To top it off? Liria is now suspicious of Ronan attempting to dethrone her, and he had does have genuine internal conflict about it.

Like, I can't say that Liria has as much depth as Ronan—he's easily the most compelling character of the three. But there's more for her to bounce off of when she's with him. There's a real trajectory the two of them must reach, a dynamic that has to overcome hurdles surrounding trust, duty, and entitlement.

Sigurn... is hot. He's Big. He's a bit rakish, but in a jolly kind of way. He tops. And yes, he has his family drama, and we know that he and Ronan have battled wills in the past. But by the time we see them together, they do have... tension, but a kind of equilibrium and acceptance of an imperfect relationship. Yes, there are a couple more steps to go, and they take them. Their dynamic is intriguing—but you don't get as much emotionally between them as you do between Liria and Ronan, and Liria and Sigurn one-on-one are honestly basically instalove and kind of boring in comparison to the other two dynamics. Ronan and Liria? Lots of conflict. Sigurn and Ronan? Lots of tension. Sigurn and Liria? Kind of just... fine. The sex is hot. There you go.

And for me, this really becomes more apparent as the story goes on. Sirgun just isn't as interesting as Ronan, and his dynamic with Liria isn't as interesting as her dynamic with Ronan, and his dynamic with Ronan is interesting, but a lot of the source of conflict has already HAPPENED.

It's not BAD, but it did kind of stick with me towards the end of the book. I got why Liria and Ronan were tangled up with each other. I sort of got why Ronan and Sigurn were all twisted up, though to be real, I felt like Ronan seemed way more preoccupied with Liria. Sirgun was just... not as important. This being an MMF book, I did have to take issue with that.

However, the story remains really fun. I was always engaged, and I breezed through the audiobook (which has good narrators all around). For a lot of people all my critiques here are not going to matter, because if you want a good time, you'll get a good time. And to be clear: I absolutely plan on reading more Amy Pennza.

The Sex:

I mean. It's really good. Each pairing in the triad gets an individual scene (I gotta say, Liria took quite a... pummeling... for an inexperienced woman in that short amount of time, but I'll chalk it up to elf stuff) plus several trio scenes. I do feel that Sigurn's status as "least interesting person here" continues into the bedroom, as he's very typical "let me tell you what to do", but hey. I'll openly admit that Ronan is probably the worst person at that bar, and boy does that make me like him more.

Overall, this is a really fun, hot romance that's perfect for those who want something high heat, fantastical, and a bit on the lighter side without being too lightweight. Don't let the elves scare you off!

ARC Rating 5/5 ⭐️ Amy Pennza has knocked it out the park as always. I requested this audioARC without reading the blurb, just knowing a perfect story was guaranteed. And it was wonderful.

This is a fae romance with MMF, with a great storyline and perfect romance. I really really enjoyed this book and the characters growth and development throughout. The audiobook was very nice with great narrators.

The cover of this book is so pretty ✨️

For fans of the Bitten & Bound trilogy by Pennza, this will be a welcome read. To be honest, it almost seemed like it was going to be a little too much like Bitten & Bound at first. You've got a MMF relationship, magical beings (this time elves instead of vampires), and a land that has been split in two, with humans on one side and the magical creatures on the other. But I was willing to go along for the ride because, hey, if you've found your niche and can do it well, why not keep it going?

In the end, this book did end up being different enough from Bitten & Bound that I did enjoy it quite a bit. Pennza's writing of her characters continues to be a strength. I was a bit worried that Liria wasn't going to do much but was ultimately satisfied during the climax of the book. Sigurn and Ronan and lovable and their banter and relationship was nice to see develop and grow over the course of the novel. This was something that I liked more than Bitten & Bound, because it took much longer over the course of that series for the characters to grow, and I almost would have quit those books before getting to it. This was much faster and felt like a healthier development.

I also still enjoyed Pennza's world-building in this book, as I had in her others. This seems to be a strength and I look forward to reading more books in this series set in this world. I am hoping that she will explore some of the other courts, especially the Autumn Court after the little hints at Mirella and Rane towards the end of this book. I do wish she had delved a bit more into the magic system and how it all worked, but maybe that is to come more in subsequent books.

The only thing that I didn't care for as much in this book was the relationship between Liria and Ronan. The only way I was able to get through this was in viewing it through the lens of it being fantasy and that things would work differently in such a world as this. But I didn't really care for her being so much younger than he was and especially didn't like that he had essentially been her protector since childhood and she his ward. For that to then develop into romance felt too much like grooming and was not my cup of tea.

Otherwise, the book was a fun read and I do look forward to the sequel.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4.5 Stars rounded up 4 Spice
The Frostbound Queen is a fast-burn, why-choose, spicy, fantasy romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book that is basically elf smut with plot! There were so many tropes crammed into this novel: age-gap, father's best friend, guardian, why-choose, one-bed, forbidden romance, virgin FMC, and others I don't want to spoil. I did find the virgin FMC with an age-gap romance with her guardian to be a bit creepy personally, and a bit of a tired narrative. Aside from that I really enjoyed the dynamics between the three main characters and seeing those grow, change, and evolve throughout the book. There were definitely a few twists I didn't see coming either. Sigurn is my favourite of the trio. The world is interesting, and is just detailed enough to make it feel real. There could have been a bit more world building, but I'm sure that would have compromised the character development and spice, so I'm more than happy with the way it was written. The spice starts earlier in the book that I would have expected and it just keeps getting spicier. And that epilogue! What a way to end the book! Probably the best epilogue I've read this year.

This is the first audiobook I've listened to with 3 narrators and they all did a great job. Mollie Stark nailed Lyria and she put so much work into developing unique voices for each of the characters. I'd love to listen to more books narrated by her. Both male narrators did a good job as well, though they both seemed to voice Lyria with somewhat different personalities and personality than Mollie narrated her, so I did find that brought me out of the story a few times for a moment or two. Otherwise, loved the triple narration and each voice actor breathing life into their respective characters.

If you enjoy spicy romantasy with an interesting world then this book is absolutely for you.

Hot! 🔥 This was one sexy read! 🔥
This was and intriguing story, the author (and narrators) kept me engaged from the very beginning. There were political machinations, but this was a primarily character driven story - I could have done without the miscommunication… If only Liria got the full story instead of assuming things over a few overheard snippets of conversation - but then we may not have met Sigurn when we did 😉
The sex scenes were very well written, I didn’t have to spend any time trying to figure out what was going on (always a good sign). This is my first why-choose (MMF) romance. I do not see how I missed that from the initial description, but here I am having finished the audiobook after only a few sittings. There were a few graphic sex scenes, but they did not distract from the story. The author did such a beautiful job having the characters embrace their sexuality.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio-arc of this book. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.

This romantasy was so dang spicy and full of so much drama, I gobbled it up in a couple of days.

I absolutely love me a good thruple relationship and the one this book had did not disappoint.

It had a good amount of world building, had so many morally grey characters, and you never knew who you could trust.

I can't wait for the series to continue.

And that epilogue ... 🥵

A very spicy mmf romantasy. Enjoyable & the spice certainly spiced. Not a plot heavy book. Most of the conflict could’ve been solved with communication between the 3 mc’s, but it made for good drama. There’s a bit of political intrigue and short bouts of clashing over thrones, but it’s such a small part of the plot. I liked the narrators, they did a good job portraying their characters, but Ronin’s sounded too young for a man over 200 years old, he still did a great job.

This audiobook gave me a major ick factor. The FMC is essentially raised by a 200 year old MMC from the time she is 11, and suddenly at 21, he is seriously into her. It felt like he had been grooming her, and although many stories depict a young FMC and seriously old MMC, for him to have known her since she was a little girl seriously grossed me out. I couldn't finish it - DNF.

The Frostbound Queen (Realms of the covenant 1) by Amy Pennza is a super spicy why choose romance fantasy.

Liria has known loss, having lost all her siblings after they were born, and now her parents are in a dazed slumber, where they lie together alive in a coma like state. She desires nothing more than to make her parents proud by taking the scepter so that she can wield its magic and become the Queen of her kingdom.

As her parents waste away, Liria has just one option which is to become strong enough to control winter. Ronan was her dad’s right hand man. He has always put duty first, and the situation with Liria has him vowing to teach her what she needs to know. Years pass and against the odds, Liria hasn’t become any more proficient at magic than she was ten years ago. Ronan has gone about training her, at the same time searching for a King for her.

Liria crosses the Covenant, which separated the magic and non magic world. When she encounters a young prince named Sugburn. Who is he and can he be trusted?

This is a fast paced romance. I loved the different magical aspects. It was definitely extremely spicy. Be prepared or your cheeks will be bright red..

I can't say it's really bad. The book was kind of entertaining, but I would have loved to get to know the MCs. I feel like I know them like someone I googled. Not a lot of insight/inside information. I don't get how they can be in love with each other. I think there must have been some deep conversations that I am not aware of... also a lot of fun banter.
It was my fault for not knowing that this would be a MMF, as I blindly followed a booktok recommendation and maybe that little twist was the best part in the end. I don't know...

The Frostbound Queen by Amy Pennza
Narrated by Benjamin D. Walker; Ellis Evans; Mollie Stark

First of all, what a narration.... I loved it, a lot many times I had goosebumps while listening to this audiobook... All the three narrators has done a good job but I will specifically mention that I loved female narration the most... she did male voices really good. So many many thanks to dreamscape media and Netgalley for the amazing audiobook ARC in exchange of an honest review.

Now coming to the story, I didn't expect the level of smut this book had. It started off really good. I was quite intrigued with the whole scenario where the queen is dying and king is so sorrowful that he wouldn't pay any attention to his only living child - Princess Lyria or even to his kingdom... Ronan, king's best friend takes over the kingdom as well as princess as his ward. There's no inappropriate relations here as Lyria is adult but yet the relationship between Ronan and Lyria felt like grooming.

Then enters the human King Sigurn, at the start it made sense that Sigurn was attracted to Lyria but it felt off on Lyria's part. And from there the story became unidimensional . The plot almost diminished as we get page long descriptions of sexual tension, actual sex scenes and complexity of their love triangle. I would have loved more world building, the bond, the magic it wasn't explained at all. Some readers might find it a big turn-off. For me too it was to an extent but I did enjoy their trio...

Another thing that was not to my liking was Insta love or love at first sight. It just doesn't sit well with me . The character development isn't done well, they are pretty flat and after the sex scenes they mostly care about each other and nothing else. They are mostly reduced to their sexuality. MMF felt forced, I was trying to understand how it is possible on the emotional level and I'm still clueless.

Overall it was enjoyable and from the overall story it was a stand-alone book as the end was done like "happily ever after" way...

Audiobook rating : 4.5 stars
Book rating : 3 stars

I am in my romantasy era as of late, so this seemed like the perfect addition to my collection.
Alas, I feel like I was cheated out of an amazing story.
After reading the blurb, I was expecting a high stakes, angsty read full of betrayal, revenge, and enemies to lovers with a potential love triangle.
But what I got was... not that. What we have here is grooming, insta-love, smut for the sake of plot, low angst, lots of miscommunication, and a fantasy world that sounds amazing but is not fleshed out in the slightest.
The romance between Liria and Ronan read like a grooming situation. He became her guardian when she was 11 years old and has wanted her since she was at least 16. This made it hard for me to be okay with their relationship. I wasn't rooting for them and felt icky when they were together.
I feel like as soon as Lyria and Ronan had sex the first time, at like 30% in, the story went downhill fast. Then throw in insta-love with Sigurn, and it got worse. Their "relationship" became the main focus of the story, forsaking the plot altogether. There were so many opportunities for this novel to be magnificent, but the author chose heavy smut scenes, low impact stakes, and one-dimensional characters instead.
The fantasy world definitely needed to be more fleshed out. All we know are there are separate realms, I'm assuming season related, and the Winter Court has to be covered in a layer of frost. But we're never told why. Only that the kingdom will die without the frost. BUT WHY??? I have so many questions, and none were answered.

Overall, the story needed more. The characters were uninteresting, the plot was dull, and the world-building was abysmal.

TW: miscarriage and stillbirth - off page, guardian/ward relationship, parental death - on page, severely hurt MC - on page.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC of this title.

Story about Liria, the elven princess in a frosty world. Her guardian, Ronan, has kept the realm frozen since Liria’s father fell into a grieving state. Liria can create some frost but does not have Ronan’s skills. When she fears Ronan will usurp the throne, she runs to the human realm and meets Sigurn. She is attracted to both men and discovers they also have a previous connection.

I liked the icy world the elves lived in. I could almost feel the cold when I read the descriptions of frosted trees and chilly air.

The romance in the book goes from 0 to sizzling quickly. I didn’t love that Ronan had been Liria’s guardian since she was 12 and that he was so much older than her. The relationship did grow on me but I wish the author had not done such a large age gap. I liked the relationship between Liria and Sigurn and also the one between Ronan and Sigurn. Their eventual decision to move forward as a throuple made sense. I’ve only read a few MMF books, but I thought the author did a great job of balancing all three relationships and building their shared connections.

The book is extremely spicy. I’ve read Katee Robert, but I think this was even spicier. The scenes were fine but I think it would have been more believable if Liria had been older and more experienced. I kind of rolled my eyes at how quickly she was “all in” on everything.

I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrators were really good. A different person did the voices for all three characters and I really appreciated the two men having different voices. I think it could have been confusing otherwise.

If you like spicy fantasy, check this one out. The world building was done well and the romance is memorable.

The storyline of this was interesting enough that I wanted to know what would happen next, and the spice kept me listening after that. I will say that Amy Pennza clearly writes some super spicy MMF fantasy! I definitely loved the way the polyamory was woven into the storyline and that it wasn’t just a love triangle but a why-choose.

However, I got the ick about the fact that Ronan basically raised Liria. Even though they are elves and don’t get together until she is an adult, it still just was not a detail that I could get past. Especially because he kept bringing it up?! WHY?!

If you don’t mind a ward/guardian romance, I would recommend it based on spice alone, but for me personally, that trope knocked this book down to 3 stars for me.

As I got to listen to the audiobook of it, I will add that the narrators (all three of them) did a great job. I especially loved the narrator for Sigurn! 😮‍💨

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance listening copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to the audiobook and had an absolute blast. The story was fast paced, politically charged, and very character driven which I loved. The world of the Covenant is built up just enough to immerse you in the story and propel the plot forward, but will not overwhelm anyone who is not looking for a high fantasy world.

There was definitely more spice than I was expecting. Being a fantasy romance, the focus of this book is definitely the romance and spice. If you enjoy spice in your fantasy romance books then I think you will love The Frostbound Queen. I absolutely loved the MMF romance in here because it's always interesting when a love triangle turns out to be a love triad.

Regarding the audiobook medium specifically, the narrators did a great job with voicing the characters and really brought Liria, Ronan and Sigurn to life. The listening experience was incredibly immersive.

3.5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media and Amy Pennza for sending me the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't know about the MMF aspect prior, but I'm not mad at it 😉

Liria is Princess of the Winter Court and as her father has fallen ill, she is soon to be QUEEN of Winter Court. Ronan is her faithful guardian and best friend. The problem with her father falling ill is, she doesn't possess the magic needed to keep Winter Court in a blanket of frost. Now that her place on the throne is threatened by Ronan, she escapes to the human lands where she knows her guardian will not go to find her. Once in the human lands, she runs into Sigurn, the rebel prince. They have more than one rendezvous and then she learns that he was no stranger to Ronan and that they know each other very well. With Ronan seemingly keeping secrets from her, Liria becomes wary and doesn't know if she can trust him or Sigurn for that matter.

Are they trying to take the throne from her? Do they really care about her like they say?

Thank you Dreamscape Media & NetGalley for my ARC copy.

I’m incredibly impressed with this book. It reminded me of how I felt reading ACOTAR for the first time. The characters were fun to read about, the relationships they had were engaging, it was spicy, and there were some twists and turns along the way. Ronan and Sigurn both wanted Liria but wanted each other also which created an interesting dynamic between the elves and elvin, along with the age gaps between them all. The love and lust between the three was captivating also. I read this book quite quickly and loved every second. I was a bit disappointed in the ending though because it seemed to end quickly but hopefully there is more to their story?.

Thank you so much to dreamscape media and NetGalley for this audiobook ARC.

Although this story was so interesting, I just couldn’t get past the fact that Liria’s Guardian (whom he raised from the age of 11) became sexually involved with her.

Aside from that, the actual story line was interesting. Liria was supposed to become queen once her father passed, but she lacked the magical ability to keep her land safe. There was so much drama, plot and spice that I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen next!

The audiobook was beautifully narrated by 3 different people, which I loved.

I went in blind and this book was spicier than I was anticipating, but they were written (and narrated) very nicely. There were both MM and MMF scenes and all were 🥵🥵🥵

Loved the book!! Amy knows how to do MMF books right!! Every book of hers that I have read has been great.

Liria, Sigurn, and Ronan were the best throuple! I loved the tests that came up. I laughed many times, I got mad a few times, and I even cried at one point. I wanted to skip to the ended just to read the HEA because I was so upset(lol), but I pushed on and happy that I did because it was worth it!! I hope that there is another book to tell Mirella’s story because I need to know the details after she left!! Please continue to write great stories!!

I enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the rest of the series. I love Amy's MMF books and this is no exception. Great worldbuilding and this is different than my normal romantasy since there are elves. The spice is hot, hot, hot! The story is so engaging I had a hard time not pulling an all-nighter to read it.

This was an exciting tale of finding your place in the midst of magic, political battles, and personal desires. With the help of Ronan, Liria navigates her father's illness. But once he passes, Ronan becomes a different person altogether.

Fleeing to the human realm, Liria finds a human king to ally with, and now she finds herself between their ambitions both politically and personally.
