The idea that the Martyrs are in a place to press the advantage in this book really shows you how much hope the team had been lacking in the previous books. You now have Cain in the Underground and his expanded role in this book is SO welcome. Vibrant is how I'd describe the start of this book, everyone is blossoming and hopeful and it leads to some absolutely stunning scenes that you want more of.
But you won't get more, there are some anxiety inducing twists in this book and if you remember the end of the last series, you know something the Martyrs don't and how that plays out is terrifying. Lust is the main villain and I love how MC Hunton interprets that sin and virtue pairing. A much needed update to the classical approach.
The encompassing world and cast that play out in these books are fantastic and some of the key side characters have some deep character progressions that stem from events in Book 3.
Be excited, thrilled, terrified, hopeful, and shocked in this pivotal addition to the series! Even if you guess some event, you'll still hate to read them play out.
