In the corridors of Singsong's Magical College, Gabriela the janitor's flesh began turning to stone. Why didn't anybody say that kissing gargoyles is a bad idea? Things are rocky enough, but then someone summons a malevolent demon on her shift in the school's library, and now he's stalking her. Gabby embarks on a desperate quest to locate her elusive father to save her from turning to stone while avoiding the demon, but she can't do it alone. She'll need the help of Percival Marigold, her arch nemesis, to navigate the balls and tea parties her extremely dangerous and powerful father frequents before everything crumbles to dust. Literally.
Gargoyles Don't Rock is the second book in the Singsong City series. It is a standalone paranormal romantic comedy featuring gargoyles, magicians, elves, werewolves, witches, and demons. It is packed with puns, battles, and an enemies-to-lovers Cinderella romance between the college janitor and the prominent heir who can't resist her. Also sushi.
* NOTE: I checked out the Virtual Voice sample, and it doesn't sound bad, but I prefer human, non-AI narration. All three (3) audiobooks are Virtual Voice on Audible.
I saw book 1 (they are standalone though) and the cover caught my eye. I had never read this author but decided to give her a try. I am glad I did. I enjoyed this book even more than I enjoyed the other one. The characters swept me away on their journey. I fell in love with Percy and Gabby. What caught me unexpectedly was how much I came to like and care for the support characters as well. When the book ended I was happy with the clean HEA yet, was sad our time together was over. I love these characters and want to know what happens to her Mom and her Dad. There was mention of spells and enchantments but nothing descriptive( he created a shield to protect from the spell sent their way). Great clean story for everyone.
"I’d danced with a gargoyle last night. Anything was possible."
We're just gonna ignore the whole, undead crow situation? I would like to know more about Poe please. Anyways, we're back in SingSong! Lots of new characters as well as a cameo from the Librarian and her man.
"Were you scaling someone else’s building to put glue in their hair after you drugged them? I’m jealous.”
As much as I love an enemies to lovers situation, the whole "I made you hate me because we would be terrible together" is outrageous no matter how you spin it. Saving someone from your nature without their consent by torturing them is a total red flag, as is the deception behind it. However, the back and forth and the banter were just delicious. I've never been so excited for spelled bugs and crazy backlash from pranks before.
"I had to do something, because when I woke up in my bed, I stretched out my hand on the sheet looking for a warm body that hadn’t ever been there before."
Her parents are absolutely adorable. The dad jokes, the fear of intimacy, the flirting. I need more.

This series is wonderful! 4.5* !! This one was not quite as good as the first one but really enjoyable nonetheless. The male characters were my sticking point in this book. Take the MMC: Teasing someone you like for years, sure. Cruelly traumatizing someone you like into panic attacks… is another. It’s tied up to an almost reasonable explanation and somehow managed to be romantic I guess? And the father! Good lord, emotions are hard. (Look, an almost-rock pun)
I love the world this book is set in and I cannot wait to read mommy’s story. And the music master!! Come. On!
Initially I could barely tolerate the heroine. When I realized she was only 20 I tried harder to tolerate her repetitive self pep talks about all the obstacles that make her question her own self worth. It is through her warped idealism that the reader is slowly integrated into the secret society of Gargoyles. From there the story picks up in action and continues while we learn the truest history of our heroine as well as that of one character from the first novel and two new characters. We also get a peek into Gargoyle lifestyle. The ending brings about the most fortune despite the heroine still whining about it until a wholesome familial moment.
I love the magic of this world, and the new creatures we’re meeting. Gabby is obsessed with gargoyles, when she meets one, she thinks her dreams have come true! It sets her on a path to find herself, find true love, and of course, save the city. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Ok, I liked this book better than I did the first in the series. It was beyond fun, the characters were great. The characters that were from the first book were still great. The plot was amazing and I had so much fun reading it. I just preordered the 3rd book and am anxious to read it when it comes out!!!
I loved this second book of the series. The story flows with more ease. The characters are intriguing. There's much more romance and I enjoy the mated mates trope. The characters we met in the first book are supportive in the second. There's humor and a sense of community that make the world building more approachable.
Interesting story and lovely characters. Hard to keep up with the constant swings of emotion from the main character. Had a hard time reading her angst and confusion at times. Hopefully the next book has a more peaceful tone. This one was very emotion filled.
Everyone enjoys a different pace in their books. This one is mine. Although this book could use a bit more editing, it kept me engaged through the very end. The last few chapters were a little bit slow and a little like filler, but I still enjoyed the read.
Book 1 in this series seemed like an absurd but delightful story that I didn't think anything would live up to. This book takes a different tone (much less Terry Pratchett) but still kept me very engaged. Gargoyles don't get much screen time in urban fantasy and I think Whicker does a creative job with them. I'm hooked.
This is such a weird? Delightful little world. I was unsure of book 1 and the universe that was forming, yet the lyrical tone of the writing kept pulling me back in and I fell into book 2, which is actually better than the first. I liked Libby but I LOVED Gabby, she’s such a fun little psycho. I can get behind that.
This is book 2 of the SingSong City series, I received my copy as an early release on Juliann Whicker’s Patreon. I really enjoyed book 1, Vampire’s Don’t Suck, and Gargoyle’s Don’t Rock is even better. Definitely looking forward to more squirrels and cupcakes in SingSong’s future.
If you're a fan of loveable hot messes, this one is for you! Between the hotties and the drama, I plowed through this book with vigorous enthusiasm! Loved it! P.S. Please tell me the sphinx and vamp get a book too...
Love both main characters in book 1&2. Entertaining, funny, mystery . The Sing Song town is almost as great as the Jayne Krentz Paranormal Crystal series. book 2 could have used several additional chapters, or a snort novella as a follow-up.
Deligtful! It took a while to realize that the MMC was going to be the romantic interest because I really didn't care for him in the beginning of the book... or middle, for that matter, but I liked him by the end. I enjoyed the plot, too.
Very enjoyable, weird, quirky characters, lots of amusing dialogue, and a hardworking heroine. I really liked this story. I will be looking for more stories from this author
Oh my gosh. This story is fantastic. Taking something you really don't like, tangling it up with the things you like until you can't see up from down...throw in a demon, a dad and cool mom. So mucj fun to read.
I was looking for something different to read and here it is! I wasn't sure if I liked it or not,but it was entertaining, so I kept going. I kept going til the end and then I wanted more. Wonderfully strange and really good.
I loved this. It was adorable, clean (kissing only), funny, and a wonderful world. I am apparently reading the series backwards and am perfectly content with that which is the perfect kind of series where they are stand alone but can vuild on one another.
Even better than number 1 in the series! Although it started a bit slow and the main female character was slightly annoying to me at first, it quickly changed. The love twist actually shocked me, and I loved it. I want to know more about Gabriella's mom and dad's story 😍
Absolutely loved this one! With hidden identities and twists, I wasn’t able to put this down! Percy & Gabby’s back and forth was so much fun! I loved watching Gabby on her journey. A fantastic, closed door urban fantasy!
Gabby is working two jobs and going to college. But is obsessed with gargoyles until she meets one and start turning into stone. It's a fun story of family, love and acceptance.
Gabby and Percy were absolutely adorable together! I loved the dialog and all the characters and the storyline! Singsong City is such a unique, loveable place!
I really wanted more of the main characters from book one but Gabby and Percy didn't disappoint. I hope we get to see Gabby and Vincent in the next book.
Gargoyles Don't Rock was such a fun book! It had me up, reading late into the night. This is the first book I've read by Juliann Whicker, and now I want to read more.
