The King #2

Wrath of The King

Rate this book
It’s been a year since Annalise escaped across the ocean, leaving the king of the beasts for dead—or so she thought. During that time, Annalise created a life for herself, but this life is quickly unraveled as she is hunted down and returned to her former captor. Annalise and Cyrus must now navigate their damaged past, broken present, and uncertain future.

Unbeknownst to both of them, Annalise attracted the attention of a mysterious stranger who is more dangerous than he seems—someone content to remain in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike. Now, the threat of this stranger looms over them, threatening the fragile foundation they’ve barely begun to establish.

Cyrus now has to choose between his hatred for humanity and his hesitance to move forward with Annalise. But can he place his differences aside fast enough to protect her? Or will he lose her to this growing danger?

The exciting sequel to the dark novel "The King."

Cyrus, at the end of book 2:

He needs a double shot espresso Grande Cup of FIND OUT(tm)

Once again this book was violent, with the meaningful change that now 90% of all the violence is directed at the heroine and the perpetrator is the hero. Don't we love those men, huh????

Meanwhile, the heroine, contemplating her situation:

There are two reasons that make this series enjoyable despite the fact that this is a romance between a horrible violent abuser and his new ~ SEX DOLL PUNCHING BAG ~

1. The heroine doesn't give a crap about the hero. In fact, despite her deep fear of him, when it comes to Cyrus as an emotional man, she considers him little more than a volatile obsessive toilet. At some point in this book they talk about his deep attachment to her and she acknowledges that, but his "love" is practically worthless to her because it doesn't guarantee her survival and safety.

2. Despite the heavy focus on gratuitous (and less so) sex scenes, the heroine is never "betrayed by her body". Even if she does enjoy the sex, she never considers those interactions as anything other than rape. Which is true of course, but few authors choose to go that route, because then you have to deal with consequences and it all gets messy.

My hope for Book 3 is for a happy ending for the heroine.
I can absolutely see her living in a nice cottage by the sea.
Cyrus can live outside in the trash can, where he belongs :)

I read Book 2 on the author's Patreon. Planned release of the ebook is apparently 2024.

FUCK. This book is so fucking good. I’m angry because now I’m gonna have a horrid book hangover and book 3 won’t be out for a long time smh. Cyrus is my everything idgaf I know he’s cruel and completely psychotic but his love for Anna is unwavering. Seeing him as a dad 😭🥵 This book was somehow even better than the last. There was more world building, character development, lump in my throat moments. We learn a lot more of Cyrus’ past and beasts history. I’m telling you it’s 1000% worth it to pay $5 to read it plus so much bonus content on her Patreon. And don’t fret, Cyrus is just as brutal, dubcon, sexy ass mf as the first book. 🖤😌

I can't believe I have to wait until April 2025 for the final book!! 😰

The sequel/continuation is even better. I love that we bypassed the hunter plot to go right into beast politics/palace life. It was a good idea to let that run its course and instead have the mystery of new beasts come into the picture. NGL but Elias is doing it for me. The little snatches we get of him? I am intrigued. I am also really wondering what is in Anna that is making all the king beasts go cuckoo for her.

Cyrus is delicious. Everything you want in a dark romance hero. He does some things that could be considered "betrayal" but the obsession he has for Anna? That's mint.

He's overbearing, controlling, and heavy-handed. He does not trust her at all but he knows there is no other for him. Even with her betrayal, there was no question for Cyrus that she was his. Baby Ciel does change the tenor of their relationship and Cyrus admits that he was hoping to discipline her but now he can't cos of the baby lol. Because of his own love for his mom, he does not want his son to grow up without his mother's love.

He also sets Anna up to be his queen. There is never any question that he won't, although he does entertain the possibility in counsel with his friend Felix, not that he ever does anything. He punishes her a lot in this book, this time using their baby as a threat. If you ever want to see your baby again...

I do appreciate a mixed signals king. Despite all his controlling ways, he has to have the best wardrobe for her as a duchess being introduced to court. When he has plans to make her his queen, he is already off creating a new bedroom for them to live as king and queen (symbolically significant for being in the same wing as his parents!). And despite hating humans, he expects her to be respected by all.

Anna? I do love her but I felt her character was most satisfying/made the most sense when she was spiralling and making incomprehensible decisions. She is clearly traumatized from the events of the previous book. She doesn't have that optimistic, hopeful pluck of winning Cyrus' loyalty anymore.

In fact, she seems to believe it doesn't matter or it is not possible to get that. She spends most of the novel wanting her child, feeling inadequate in Beast society, and also having the best rough s*x 🥵🥵🥵 I didn't get Anna's intellect come through, the one that is made mention of so many times. Just her battered consciousness.

There were some parts where I felt like Anna would say something, see Cyrus get angry, and immediately apologize and backtrack, as if she thought he wouldn't get mad at her! I felt her character was meant to be frustrating because she's been through a lot. When she did have a proper freakout, consequences be damned, it was good to see, because she was so unsure of herself, walking on eggshells, trying hard not to appear out of her league all throughout the novel.

It makes me want to reread The King to see what Anna's character was like. For similar vibes, I recommend Quinn Blackbird's Black World duology. Both incredibly similar premises: dark romance fantasy where a strong supernatural hero takes a heroine away to be slave promoted to queen, where the hero is incredibly cruel to a heroine who has gumption but also fear.

There's sooo much running through my head after finishing this book...

We started this one out with Cyrus being really pissed over Annalise's perceived betrayal (). He was so upset about all of this that once he got them back, he didn't even want to be around her that much (and yes for those of you that care he was trying to sate his lust with other women because he was afraid he'd lose control with her-- no worries, though, it's not like Annalise WANTED to be sleeping with him anyway) for fear of hurting her. I think what frustrated me the most is that even he could tell that he was a danger to her and this was a YEAR later when he had had time to come to terms with his father's death.

“Why? Why did you run? Why did you betray me?” Cyrus gestures to me as he speaks. “You can’t even stand before me without shaking. If you are so fearful of me, why would you go against that instinct? Why didn’t you warn me? Why didn’t you stay?”

Why is it he couldn't see that she was even more at risk when he snapped after first learning of it? Then I thought, 'Well why doesn't she just lay it all out to him and explain what she was thinking when she left? Why she HAD to leave!' And then she tried and he wasn't open to hearing anything she had to say at all. I mean, I know in the past he's always tried to fix it after he has done something horrible to Annalise, but death offers the kind of finality that doesn't exactly leave room for backsies, ya know what I mean? I guess he just wanted her to be all like,

and he would have been satisfied.

“He hates me. He’s always hated me from the moment I entered the palace. He let it be known on more than one occasion and never bothered showing me the mercy you think he did. That’s why I left. I thought for sure if I didn’t leave, he would have killed me that night. I don’t know any more than you do why the king tolerates me,” I murmur.

So I'm not gonna lie, I kind of cheated (a little) and read some reviews prior to reading and WHILE I was reading this one. I'm the weirdo that doesn't mind spoilers and I kept seeing a common theme among them. It seems that most people were unsure as to whether or not our MMC, Cyrus, was even redeemable after his actions in this installment. So the further I got in it and wasn't THAT offended, I was like this can either be one of three things: Either I'm just too desensitized by all the dark shit I read, my past trauma has my brain tricked into thinking that violent love is the norm, OR the other shoe has yet to drop....

And boy did that shoe hit HARD!
Cyrus's old pappy wasn't lying when he said that his son was impulsive and quick to act based on his emotions! He really went off the rails on that final outburst!

Cyrus roughly throws me to the ground, the pain of the seal slowly disappearing. I keep my head down as he stands over me, holding my hands over my breasts. “Come. We are going to have dinner, and I am going to fuck you until the sun comes up,” he growls out. He roughly grips my chin, lifting my gaze to meet his. “And I will show you what true cruelty is.”
NOT a quote from the last incident but certainly an example of Cyrus letting his crazy show.

I've also seen some reviewers saying that with how far gone Cyrus is at this point, they're theorizing that Annalise might end up getting with Elias. I can tell you right now. THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

I do agree with some reviewers that there's something different about Annalise. I think it's strange that BOTH KINGS are so enamored and taken with her. They both reference their inner beast craving her to the point of obsession.

She’s the exception. She’s always the exception. She’s been that for me from the moment I allowed her to flee into the woods with her life. I should have killed her that day. But I was enamored by the human before me. My inner beast craved her and begged me not to end her right then and there.

We learn in this book that originally the beasts could not change and take a humanlike form. At that time, they hunted and fed on humans. We can infer that something had to occur that allowed them to start doing that. I'm wondering if maybe there was some type of humanlike being that these beasts couldn't resist and it was maybe their offspring that were then able to shift forms (which is why they can shift forms now) and is it possible that Annalise could be a descendent of whatever that being was??? And since their society is based on a hierarchy of power, with those ruling being the most powerful and therefore more closely related to what original beasts were, is THAT why it's specifically the kings that are so drawn to her?? I'm really looking forward to hopefully more light being shed on all this in the next installment.

Now, I'm just going to go into a random deep dive of various things I did and didn't like.

~ Would it have killed this author to elaborate a little more on what the hell a seal is?! I'm sorry, I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm going to need them to stop just glossing over that little tidbit as if it's something as simple as putting on your socks before you do your shoes. In my humble opinion, it hasn't been explained nearly enough to be casually mentioned as often as it is.

~ Also, we kept being told how intelligent Annalise is and how Cyrus admired her for her cunning wit, yet there is a glaring lack of evidence to support this claim. In fact, her response to practically anything in this story left me like,

~ Loved the new character Joan. I know Annalise went off on her there at the end and I'm sure some of what she was accusing her of was true, but I truly do think that her intentions towards Annalise were pure and admirable.
“Stop being frightened of him. No matter what he does, you have his heart and his ear. Make something of that. Build a relationship with him, Annalise. Or all you’ll ever be is something to fuck.”--Joan

~ Daddy Cyrus was a true delight! Any scene that had Cyrus interacting with Ciel was worthy of making your heart melt.

I think I've about exhausted my brain and have said everything I could possibly want to say about this second installment of the series. I liked this one more than the first one probably...although I would truly love for there to be a deeper connection formed between the two MC's because at this point it is ONLY sex and offspring that they share. I think Cyrus does love her, but he's going to have to work on that temper of his and there's going to have to be some major groveling if he has any hope of her ever WANTING to be with him. And now...we wait. Third book isn't supposed to be out until April of 2025.

But I'm certainly looking forward to it and think others that have read book one would thoroughly enjoy this one as well.

Enjoyed this as much as book one. The writing improved and is less clunky. I really loved that the characters largely stay true to who they are while there's still character development. The changes are subtle and I can't wait to see how it all plays out in book three. There are some new players here and, once again, it ends on a cliffy. While Cyrus is generally a big pile of toxic sludge in his treatment of Annalise, I adored daddy Cyrus. Quite bummed that book three hasn't even been started yet, so I'll have to wait a while to see how this ends. I read this one on the author's Patreon as it hasn't been published yet.

Yine beni neler bekliyor acaba 🥹

why is cyrus just so fucking dumb. i NEED anna to get with elias in the next book cus frankly cyrus just does NOT deserve her. she did everything to prove her loyalty to him and what does he do ? snatch her kid and send her away to the mountains. yeah no fuck him. elias actually seems to value her and not control her like a fucking dog on a leash. i literally hate almost all the characters except elias ceil and anna ( sometimes). dmitri is a fucking loser, felix a psychotic abuser and joan or whatever the fuck her name was a lying cunt and don't even get me started on cyrus there is absolutely NOTHING he can do to redeem himself after all that he's done.

I waited a long time to comment on this series, I wanted to calm down and wait to do a more in-depth analysis of everything I read.
There's no denying why the series has such a high rating, even though it's such heavy content, I'm going to divide my opinions by characters to make it easier, let's go.
Mocinha's father: we know very little about Annalise's father at the beginning of the first book, but as the book picks up more information is shown, we know why he gave her the jewel, and that he's not even her real father, honestly For me, he ruined his daughter's life by giving her the necklace and not telling her the truth and teaching her how to defend herself, he made a lot of mistakes as her caregiver and failed miserably at that.
Dimitri: oh let's talk about the elephant in the room, there will be many more pages here as I will talk about it in the first and second part of the series.
For me, Dimitri was an obtuse character, I don't know how to explain it, I felt very sorry for him in the first book, after all, he and Analyse were in very similar situations and even though we don't see it first hand like the girl's suffering (after all, it's her book and I'm grateful for that, because I really didn't want to know what he was going through).
However, from 50% of book 1 onwards, his character became uncomfortable for me, I can't deny that I understood where it all came from, but am I wrong in wanting him to have more resilience like Ana?! What I want to say is that the two were in equal roles man and woman, victim and victim, treating each other as abuser and abused, but while one gave in the other fought within himself, I even think the author did it on purpose to show how much the Women are sometimes more resilient than men in demanding situations.
In the second book, for me, Dimitri was so out of touch that I didn't care about him anymore, unlike Analisse, who, no matter how weak he was, Dimitri gave in completely and even became a kind of antagonist, the scene in which he allowed Cyrus to find Annalise, even knowing about her son and what she would suffer at their hands, was too much, but when they started to return to the Kingdom and he started saying that she was selfish and a bunch of other things, I freaked out. Does that mean she should put his life above hers and her son's for him?! He had already made the decision when he sided with the beasts, I think it was because he realized his characteristics with the beasts and Felix's brainwashing and that it completely changed his mind. He had already clearly told Ana that he would never help her escape, when he told her that she was selfish for escaping, he implied that because he gave in to Félix's brainwashing Anna also needs to live this and because she never really gave up completely she is selfish, really for me he doesn't love her he just loves the idea that somehow he does the right thing for her but in reality they are selfish and petty ideas, seeing Joane saying that shit to Anna made me so angry... .
Felix: I only have one word to describe this creature, TRASH. The guy destroyed someone else's life and made him his obedient puppy and to think I read comments from people saying they wanted to know more about “their relationship” and I thought: what relationship?! Firstly, for it to be a relationship, both parties would have to agree, that was pure abuse on a psychopathic level, it honestly made the “situation” disgusting and it had nothing to do with being LBGT, but because that rubbish character destroyed Dimitri's life and imposed a sexuality that he did not choose, abused, tortured over and over again, not to mention slavery. So I can't understand this morbid curiosity to see this type of development, not to mention the way he and Cyrus talked about their slaves, it was disgusting and vile, I just wanted it to end so I wouldn't have to read more shit from those two's mouths. For me, the least he deserves is death, nothing more, nothing less.
Cyrus: oh now let's start naming things...
I must admit this character was well created, if the author wanted a wicked antagonist main character she did it well, because all I feel for him is contempt and disgust. There is nothing and I mean this, nothing that this guy can do to redeem what he did throughout the two books. If the third arrives and the author makes him become a good guy, it won't be a decision, you know, because for that to happen the character would have to develop character traits and redemption that, in my opinion, are beyond his reach and would be very false, at the same time. Unless she extended the series with more books so that this could be better worked on, but I don't think it will go in that direction.
At the very least, this idiot would have to spend the entire book treating her like a queen that she deserves, but even that wouldn't solve the problem, I'm almost certain that Anna's second child is a girl, wouldn't it be ironic for him to have a girl when he spent the entire life abusing
all his life abusing women, especially the woman he claims to love?! But I also think that Anna could lose and be on the verge of death, maybe that will make him ration things out a little.
In my country we have two very important calls: MARIA DA PENHA LAW, AND FEMINICIDE.
The first deals precisely with abuse against women, and the other is about murders against women committed by their current or former partners. It's something that unfortunately happens a lot here and I couldn't help but read about Cyrus and not think about it, he's a monster in the pejorative sense of the word, he's a complete psychopath and for me I want him to fuck off, I'm not going to talk here about their actions during the books, what I already wrote above gives you an idea.
I can't see him as a broken character who gives the idea of redemption or who justifies his actions, for me he sees the wrong things, he knows that, he just doesn't
He doesn't care about them. I hated his words to Ana, how he daily despised her for being human, as if she were to blame, I won't talk about the other women in his bed, he claims to be obsessed with her, but he never treated her differently from the others, on the contrary when the more his attention turned to her the less fortunate she was, none of them went through a third of what Ana went through and death was a mercy that Cyrus did not and will never happen to Ana.
The dynamic between them was so heavy that I felt it along with her, Cyrus was a real-life character in fiction and not like many authors try to romanticize beings who are like him, they say they love, even though they don't know what this is, but they will tell you hurt and even kill without blinking an eye or even losing a night's sleep because of this, there is no remorse, guilt or complaints are what they are and therefore without redemption, a relationship where one has all the power and the other does not.
The mind is totally disturbed and I feel no faction of being in it, he acted as if Anna owed him in every way, it's all her fault and not his, typical of an abuser, when he blamed her for leaving him and deceiving him. him and get angry about it, I thought: damn, when she talks about his father, that sad guy cuts her arm and the only reason he didn't kill her was because he was interrupted, I don't think her situation would have been better if she had stayed, he would have mistreated her even when she was pregnant , as he did. He never even gave her affection and respect, much less trust and wanted her to have it with him?! Thanks to small mercies she wasn't like the little weasel that Dimitri became. For me it was Cyrus' peak after he almost killed her for taking her son and when he woke up she was just a mess and he came up with that boring story about his scars and his mother's death and I thought: now we need to have sorry for you?! Because it didn't work.
I don't know what the author wanted with that, but for me it was irrelevant, if it was intended to humanize the character I think it was a little late for that.
ANNALISE: what do you say about this poor thing, she ate the bread that the devil kneaded and I don't see it ending anytime soon.
To begin with, Cyrus's people live in a parallel world, she had no one who really understood her, and that makes me feel for her, whether it's book one or two, people have always seen her as nothing more or less than a slave and trash and her The abuse never stopped, not even when Cyrus caught his attention, on the contrary it only got worse. I didn't like book two at all when she was found and EVERYONE without excess put her as the wrong one and Cyrus as the right one, damn isn't there anyone decent enough in this book to see a mistreated and abused woman?! I despaired for her because she was really trapped, and boy did she try, even though she never deserved anything that she went through, but all her efforts were in vain and frowned upon.
Truth be told, she would never be accepted by those people and not because she couldn't develop affection and loyalty to them, but because they also never gave her a chance, and all this because of Cyrus, who was supposed to be an example, but like him It wasn't because the others were, he failed her in every way and she never failed him and it was all so unfair that I just wanted to cry for her.
I hated how submissive she was, but her fear wasn't without reason, but I think she missed so many valuable opportunities of importance and confronting Cyrus, little words, little actions, it doesn't have to be anything big, just something to maybe make him think. , but always preferred to remain silent or beg. The only times there was a glimmer of boldness from her was because of her son or the rest was frustrating to help.
Anna's only saving grace was that she NEVER gave her heart and mind to Cyrus, her loyalty was to her
herself and with her son, the part in the book when she tells Dimitri that she allows herself to enjoy sex with Cyrus for me was such a brutal truth, she understood that it was out of her control and not something she really wanted . Cyrus questioned her about her not accepting him or her son as beasts, but damn her race mistreats her daily they are the cause and embodiment of all her suffering, how can anyone blame her?! However, Anna's opinions were due to her reality and there is no way you can defend something like that, she was not irrational in her doubts, she knew how to separate one thing from another unlike Cyrus. Honestly, Cyrus' questions were at least insignificant and meaningless, he was so blinded by hatred that he couldn't even be coherent.
Conclusion: I don't see any other alternative for the author at the end of this series, just as the human kingdom fell, so did the kingdom of beasts, because we really saw both of them are wrong and this entire generation needs to be eradicated so that the next generation doesn't commit the same things. even mistakes and finally father Cyrus' dream comes true and the two peoples can live and prosper among themselves on an equal footing.
I think it's only fair after everything Anna has been through and will go through, that she can see this happen and especially Cyrus' fall, him on his knees in front of her. I don't expect redemption from this guy, but I at least hope that he recognizes on some level what he did to Anna and that his actions won't go unpunished, what you sow you reap.
I hope that Anna can finally escape with her son and raise him in both human and beast culture and become everything that his father was not, both in strength, but in character and common sense and that Anna can finally have a peaceful life and happy with her son and who knows how to find love.

Just like book one…. OW(s)

I decided to read the second book because the last third of the first book seemed promising. I almost DNF the first book due to OW(s). I was going so much that this wouldn’t carry over. But sure enough….. I’m someone who personally cannot stand OW(s) being with the MMC after he’s been with FMC. I wish I did better research before jumping into the second book, I personally would of skipped continuing the series. If you are fine with OW(s), and liked the first book I think you’ll like this one as well! It’s the major thing that truly made the book unenjoyable for me.
May 31, 2024
I've always enjoyed this authors knack for her simple but entertaining writing. This book is the exception to that. The FMC doesn't do anything of her own free will and hasn't since the beginning of the last book. We cycle through the same motions for over half of this book, with the MC sitting waiting for the plot to come to her. She felt really hollow and devoid of any personality or ambitions.

Annalise ran away and is living across the ocean. She decided to keep her baby and of course after a year of freedom Cyrus finds her and drags her home and takes away her son. Most of the book is him keeping Annalise from her son as punishment for running away. Cyrus constantly degrades her saying she’s keeping her son who is a baby from being a good beast. Truth is Cyrus is whack… He mentally torments more so in this book But there is still the physical abuse. Suddenly there’s another beast king in the picture from across the ocean and he wants Annalise too . This girl truly must have a golden crotch! Now that the human war is over I guess we’re in for a war between the beast kingdoms. Ends on a cliffy that made me go to the authors Patreon to Find Out what’s up Next. One thing I
Noticed in both book 1 and book 2 is the
Author loves the word intensely. I think she used it 5000 times. Please find a new word. That’s the only thing that jolted me out of the beasts world. He looked at her intensely….Dude find a new way of looking at her than Intensely…

“It was never my plan to come across you again,“ I say desperately.

Instead of anger, Cyrus’s amusement seems to grow. “Well… how cruel fate is to continually place you in a position you do not wish to be in,” he says.

It took me a while to finish this since I've been busy with my new job 😖 But if I feel like if I read this in one sitting I could've have given this 5 stars. 😩 I still enjoyed it tho!! ❤️ Cyrus is toxic as hell and that man should be put down lol Annalise deserves better but I can't help but still root for them to be end game 😂

3.75/5 stars ★

I read from reviews that this series is originally from Wattpad… no wonder why I’m so invested in this! 😭

This is the type of fantasy book I like! Prince x Commoner romantasy

3.4/5 I like this one a bit less than the first one. Things that would have improved the experience for me:

-Reducing the number of times that a variant of the following sentence is written: "He captures my chin with his fingers, forcing me to look at him." FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SHE MUST HAVE PIMPLES ALL OVER HER CHIN FROM HOW MUCH OIL HE'S TRANSFERRING TO HER FROM GRABBING HER CHIN SO MUCH! This phrase felt like it was said every other page, almost verbatim/copy+pasted.
-Reducing the number of times that poor woman IS CHOKED MY GOD. I get that this is what I'm signing up for with it being a dark fantasy 'romance' and all, but it also felt EXTREMELY repetitive when the following phrase was mentioned every other page or so: "He chokes her. Her vision clouds, and just as she is about to pass out, he lets go. She coughs for air."
-There is repetitive mention of the main character being 'intelligent', and why Cylus finds her so attractive (or is obsessed with her or whatever), but EVERY. SINGLE. THING. SHE. DOES. INDICATES. THE. CONTRARY.
-Some character development would be appreciated. The characters felt extremely stagnant relative to book 1. I was anticipating progression, not regression. There is also some EXTREME whiplash and repetitive themes that got boring and exhausting after going through the cycle of her pleasing him, then making him angry, then him banishing/abusing her, then him finding out that he's wrong, then blah blah blah. *I will note, that was maybe a LITTLE bit of character development towards the end of this book?
-There were significantly more typos in this book than the previous book. So much so that it was a bit jarring and pulled me out of the story quite a bit. It might be helpful to get another proofreading editor to triple-check for spelling errors/missing words/etc.

I want the author to know, that while I do have complaints, I FINISHED THE BOOK! Which means it was entertaining and kept me engaged (which isn't necessarily easy). It sucked me in and I wanted to keep reading more. I am just pointing out the things above in case that is helpful criticism for the next installment.

I can't believe I finished these books. To all the people out there, this is no romance. At all.
It's so fucked up that it's fascinating. Reading this series was like watching something terrible happen and being unable to look away.
Why do I have to wait a whole year for the next one?? X_X

I need CYRUS to SUFFFER AND SUFFER AND SUFFER until he can’t no more and I NEED my girl to get a happy ending. Two books of torture now is more than enough.

I don’t care if he wants to go war for her, he deserves DEATH.

This was such an intense read, and I devoured it all in one day. I feel like a masochist for liking this. This is going to be more of rant session than a review. Moreover, I want to make clear that by no means do I consider this a romance book, there is not an ounce of romance/love or any of that feelings here. This is more of a survival & politics book and it's really good!

First of all, CYRUS YOU STUPID ASS MF I HAVE NEVER HATED ANYONE MORE THAN I LOATHE YOU. THE MOST HYPOCRITICAL SELFISH SNOBBY BASTARD TO EVER EXIST. I DON'T KNOW IF HE WILL EVER REDEEM HIMSELF, i'm not sure if I even want him to. He can die the nastiest death for all I care. And what was with all the 'call me Cyrus when no one is around' & 'that's not how you address your king' thingy, he was such an obnoxious asshole I swear. One of the worst 'heroes', if we can even call him that...

Moving on, Dmitri, ah poor Dmitri! I don't hate him. I don't. What they did to him was so uncalled for even after he exhibited nothing but loyalty towards their kingdom.

I hate the beasts, they are hypocrites who demand loyalty but cannot return it once. Just because some humans waged a war against them, they have decided all of the race is evil, when all they are is weaker than them. When they know that human race is not even up to par with them in terms of power, yet they feel pride in defeating them. Pathetic!

Lastly, the character for who I read this book, and whose journey I shared, the beautiful and intelligent, Annalise. She is stronger than all of these lowly-brained beasts, especially that asshole Cyrus (did I mention that I hate him). I hate how everyone guilt-tripped her for running away when all she wanted was to save herself and her child. It's not her fault that they decided to kill all the humans. Anna stood loyal to the king even after all he put her through, she had to think of herself, who would've saved her child if the king were to die, NO ONE! They would have killed her and her baby so ofc she ran away to safety. Cyrus is just is so dumb that he can not even see what his foolishness is costing him. And I hated how cold he was to her when he found out that his dad died, like how is it her fault that he is dead. His dumbness had no limits!
I just loved how Anna's character is written and executed. Also, I just loved how after finding out that Cyrus was sleeping with other woman, her first thought wasn't jealousy, but relief, thats just how much she hates that dumb witted bastard. Her relationship with Ciel is so adorable, and I hope Ciel grows up to be like his mother.

I can not wait to read the next book, the ending was too tempting! idk if I have it in me to wait!!! (I just hope they don't end up together)

After finishing The King, I was actually convinced that the second book would be a complete ordeal—not only for the reader but particularly for Anna. True to expectation, the dynamics took a turn for the darker and more toxic, making us endure alongside Anna the trials orchestrated by Cyrus.

Still, despite the drama, I found myself hooked from the get-go and breezed through the book in just one day. While the story remained compelling, I couldn't help but notice a need for refinement in the writing style compared to its predecessor. Certain passages and inner monologues felt repetitive, failing to fully unveil the complexities of the characters. The storytelling and plot was stuck in a vicious cycle of doubt and uncertainty (on both sides), which, despite being a vital component of the book, occasionally felt stale.

I wished for deeper character development, particularly gaining a better understanding of Cyrus's perspective. It's like a rollercoaster ride with him—constantly shifting between extremes, leaving me feeling disoriented and frustrated. Despite his claims of his irrational yet profound and maddening love for Anna, his portrayal falls short of convincing me of the depth of his feelings. I hope for a lot more character-development in the third book.

In the end, “Wrath of the King” was a captivating read, but not without its flaws. While it held my attention and made my heart beat faster, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was room for improvement. 4.25-4.5 stars for me!
