About the author

Jean Adamson was a British writer and illustrator of children's books. She was best known for the Topsy and Tim books, the first of which was published in 1960 and which have sold 27 million copies. Adamson's creations were also featured widely on television in 84 episodes of Topsy and Tim.

This is a wonderful story about Topsy and Tim heading off on holidays with their Mum and Dad. It describes the whole process of going on a bus to get to the terminal, going up the escalator, checking their luggage and getting on the aeroplane in great detail. The author describes it in a very child friendly way with an element of fun. This book is ideal for young children who are trying to grasp the going on holiday’s concept. It would prepare children for their journey to their holiday destination, they would then realise that parents don’t just click their fingers and your there!

I love all the Topsy and Tim collections by Jean and Gareth Adamson, they are extremely realistic and would be useful for children that are learning or experiencing things for the first time. For example, learning to swim or going on an aeroplane for the first time, these stories will ease any child that is nervous about doing things for the first time!

Clear illustrations and straightforward text aimed at preparing children for their first flight. The book strikes a good balance between presenting the experience as positive and exciting and portraying the inconveniences and boredom that is a part of travel. Although this series seems quite dated now to my adult eyes my grandchildren love it.

This is a great book to help children prepare for an aeroplane flight and takes them all the way through the bus shuttle to the terminal, checking in, giving luggage in, boarding, flying (a short flight!) and then unloading and being somewhere else. Nice follow through.
