Save the fae, save the world
In the magic lands of the Fae Wild, the Goblin King's virility is the lifeblood of the realm. But an insidious curse has put the kingdom on the precipice of a population panic.
Enter Thomas architect, engineer, and unknowing half-blood heir to the goblin throne.
Whisked away to a world where baby-making makes the world go round, Thomas finds himself in a pickle thicker than goblin stew. Birth rates are dropping faster than a fairy on a bad flight path, and it’s up to Thomas to save the fae from themselves.
With the help of a manic pixie – er, goblin dream girl, and an adorable pink-haired assassin, Thomas has to rally the troops, charm the locals, and kickstart a baby boom like no other.
Michael Dalton is a professional journalist and editor.
Michael wrote his first piece of fiction in third grade, for which he was immediately accused of plagiarism by his teacher. Since then, he has been writing more or less steadily, interrupted only by occasional demands of work and family.
Michael lives with his family and multiple pets in Southern California.
I often have trouble with stories involving goblins because it usually involves either a massive harem or for the mc to be split so many ways that none of the relationships feel meaningful and the harem feels no different than the rest of the women. The authors perfectly balance this here, the actual harem is small (and looks like it plans to remain fairly small, only adding 2 per book) and the mc has true feelings of love for his core harem. But this is not at the expense of the other mothers of his children, he genuinely cares for his people and is excited for himself and the women. They are not just faceless breeding stock, they have names and purposes within the story. Bravo! I also enjoy a kingdom building story that is more light-hearted, most are such a struggle and very dark, with the mc being at the center of a bloodbath. here we have a relatively peaceful mc who uses his good leadership and delegation skills to improve his kingdom.
First, the pedantry: this is a PORTAL book, not isekai. Isekai is reincarnated in another world, this is the MC being portalled over from Earth.
I can't give this book 5 stars as the sex/story ratio was too high to be a tight story, but otherwise it lives up to the "Light-Hearted etc." in the title. There is enough potential for another book or two, but the menage is already getting to an unwieldy size, so it runs the risk of too many distractions for the MC and thus the story itself. I guess we'll see.
The premise was interesting enough but the main character is as bland as it gets and the authors overuse the "not like the the other guys" trope to a lame degree and none of the girls feel earned which makes it boring
the story is someone intriguing it had a lot of story building lots of stats lots of stats. The Slice of Life was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. I know this is a harem type novel but I gave it a four because I thought it had a little too much sex in it although some of it was Fade to Black some of it was Fade to Black I am looking forward to the next book curious as to what happens next in the Kingdom that he is now head of.
Actually it would have been a 4 star book but then once i finished the book i realised that the MC almost impregnated every goblins in the territory meaning the goblin kids would be marrying their step brother or step sisters in the future.
Really enjoyed the continued building of the failing kingdom. I know - it's fantasy and a lot of things fall into place but still - it was a good escape for me. Thanks for that and looking forward to the next installment.
I didn't see this one coming! And I definitely didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. That's what I get for doubting Dalton's work and I suppose Adam Lance as well. Golbins don't do much for me but I really enjoyed this one. Honestly reading this was quite calming in a weird way. The romance, as always from Dalton, is fantastic and sweet. I'm looking forward to the future novels.
I really enjoyed the writing style and approach to the telling of this story. It wasn't "in-your-face" and full of over-used tropes and stereotypes and metaphors. Thomas - the MC - is a relatable-enough character from Earth that I feel many people could connect with on an instinctual and first-impressions basis, and I feel that he has many great qualities that humans irl should strive for (such as selflessness, acceptance, tolerance, and xenophilia) but he is definitely unique enough in characteristics and traits that he doesn't feel like some copy-paste and re-used framework of a character. The harem aspect of this book is definitely rife, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I think those people who are commenting that are upset about: - the highly detailed or graphic sexual encounters, - the fact that many of the species just so happen to have reproduction issues, - and all of the women have large breasts and small frames and are regarded as "beautiful" or "super model" quality, perhaps came to read this book for reasons that this book doesn't explore, or have expectations that this book doesn't meet. I, personally, felt I understood what this book was going to be about just by reading the blurb and looking at the cover, but perhaps those that are upset about the book's contents aren't looking that deep or perhaps are projecting their own desires or otherwise onto a story that isn't theirs to tell. At the end of the day, this book is written by two people who obviously care for this story a lot (as evidenced by the character development in all main characters, the thought into the whole 'gaming system' to explain levels and powers, and the political intrigue among the world) and they are not discriminating against anyone just because they don't include 'plus sized' models or 200 cm tall goliath species that looked more muscular than curvaceous.
TLDR; if you like a good harem story set in a fantastical land with magic and kingdoms, and all kinds of fae species, and one that is thick with sexual scenes and tension with lithe-or-skinny-big-breasted females, and you enjoy watching development of a city/kingdom/region along with the nitty gritty stats the character has to make it happen, then you'll definitely like this book.
As described in the promo - a light hearted Isekai romp
The MC is drafted to be King of the goblins, whose main duty is to repopulate their declining race. To accomplish this he must secondary get the kingdom on track to be movers and shakers rather than children of chaos. He must defeat the troll king, weather spys, assassins, brigands and rival nobles; all whilst reinvigorating a failing city. The writing is good, with a good storyline and the worldbuilding works, without obvious flaws or criminaly incompetent characters. (I despise MC's that jump into the river without checking for crocodiles - metaphorically speaking.) This is a harem story so there is lots of between the sheets activity, yet the MC thinks and develops relationships rather than being a man of negotiable virtue.
What causes this to stand out for me is that the MC while not adverse to confrontation, is not a warrior, but a civil engineer with a diplomatic background. He'd rather use wits than swords as the author described in another (excellent) book. Once again, a light hearted and enjoyable story. I look forward to the next installment
I appreciate the effort the author has made to create a goblin race that can sort-of make sense. But, honestly, only sort-of. The idea is that if chaos and discipline are not carefully balanced, goblins will kill themselves off being stupid and self-destructive. (At least the males will). But, yeah, that is pretty grim. The signs of an earlier golden age, where things worked, are interesting and give the ability to have very rapid improvements in living conditions.
The protagonist is good and very sensible. The harem members are delightful. The rather mechanistic efforts to, in addition to the harem, impregnate literally hundreds of goblin women get rather absurd.
The RPG aspects of the book get distracting. Much more distracting than in _Trailer Park Elves_ because the tablet gives him a lot more possibilities so the character sheet gets longer and longer.
I find the rather cheerful "Hey, you avoided a war by mass poisoning your enemy!" subplot to be refreshing. No need for a lot of fancy sword-work, right?
I do look forward to seeing how the plot continues now that he is king.
Thomas prince in the making learns skills on earth from his adopted parents as diplomats .
Thomas a average human on earth working designing building for client's gets fired by his boss over a design he thought best worked for the client without the chance to show his design to the client . After getting drunk and eating pizza's he receives an assistant from his father the next morning for his father is a diplomat an mother as well .Which isn't the case at all for he was really a prince in hiding from another realm . Which changed his life forever ..recommend reading excellent book .
I liked it, but really, why the hell did he play along with Emily's "delusion" for so long at the start? Other than plot reasons, why would you ever sign something that some crazy woman puts in front of you? Dude's supposed to be a highly educated professional and he does that??? Made me laugh at how ridiculous the setup was.
Plus, I mean really dude, you saw incontrovertible proof of magic (he even admits it to himself in the story that it definitely is real magic), and he's still in disbelief for so long? Like, you just saw someone use LITERAL MAGIC and you think they're doing some elaborate scam?
In "Isekai Emperor", authors Dalton and Lance provide an enjoyable escapist fantasy read with interesting characters and a well thought out world. The LitRPG base building elements are a nice touch and the story is well paced. There are enough game elements to please "crunchy" LitRPG fans without overwhelming the reader with endless "notifications" and "stat boxes". The book also has a nice balance between intimate moments and story progression. I am looking forward to book 2!
A great start to the tabletverse. The characters are all fun and the decision on one of the major confrontations and how it was resolved was not one I see regularly and something I respect for being done, plus it made for a great surprise.
The world building and characterisation of goblins is great and makes for a broad field to grow new ideas that I can't wait to see.
Plus, lots of good breeding to take care of everyone.
This was an entertaining story. A human brought into a fantasy realm to help a goblin kingdom. It does not shy away from being sexual. Yet, it is a story about a person trying to restore a kingdom to its former glory. It is a straight forward story that is easy to read. I like reading more complex books. However, I like books that are fun and for entertainment as well. This book hits this area perfectly.
I'm not usually into the whole "emperor building" stories because I hate politics with a passion. But this was actually really great! The characters are awesome and the story carries itself along. You can tell this was written with a clear goal in mind, rather than just winging it.
What an interesting storyline. The MC doesn’t fall through a portal, get swept up by a mini tornado or get kidnapped. After getting fired from his job, he ties one on only to be awakened in the morning by a young woman claiming to be his assistant. The story progresses from there with lots of discoveries and some dangerous situations for the MC. Good reading!
A very interesting beginning to a blend of fantasy adventure styles!!! I for one can't wait to see how the MC creates his inner circle and how this world develops!!!! Great beginning and fantastic editing!!!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
This is the most fun I have had in a book in years. Very amusing, lots of sex with a strong sense of progression. Characters are well drawn. Very much looking forward to the next book.
Fun, interesting, bizarre, hilarious, sexy, and did I mention fun? I haven't enjoyed a book like this ever, it just had all the elements to make it a joy a read! I will absolutely keep reading the series.
As a fan of Michael Dalton's other work, I had high hopes for this novel. I was certainly not disappointed with this collaboration of his with Adam Lance. Fun story, enjoyable plot, sexy girls... a dose of pure "Crisp", awesome!
Every single aspect is gamified including the 'romantic' partners. Everyone other than MC and main romantic partners are literal brain-dead MMO NPCs Yuck.
The characters are awesome. They have a nice sharp whit, while being very intelligent and flexible enough to overcome obstacles and work together when the need arises. This was a terrific read! Bring on Book 2!
This is a fine light litrpg fantasy harem adventure novel. It is well written and edited. I especially like the Troll queen I anxiously await the sequel.
