Princeton Heirs #1

The Thug and His Doll

Rate this book
From the author of the Academy of Stardom series comes the first book in a brand new world set in Princetown. Featuring a curvy, single mum and the heir of the Hammer family fortune. This is an angsty, steamy romance that will get your heart racing and your tears flowing.

Lia After running from my abusive husband, the only thing I care about is getting my son as far away from him as possible. With no money to my name and a car that barely survives the miles I put between us, I find myself in Princetown. As hope dwindles and options become scarce, fate intervenes when a tall, tattooed stranger, extends a helping hand. But despite his kindness, can I truly believe that he wants to help us without expecting anything in return? After all, I’ve trusted the wrong person before, and look where that got us.

Drix As an adopted heir to one of Princetown’s founding families, I was thrust into a life of riches, and later, trapped into a role that I hate. With a debt to be paid, I have no choice but to take on the role of enforcer. Resigned to the fact that this is my lot in life, I become the thug everyone wants me to be. Then a chance encounter with a beautiful woman and her young son changes everything, and I find myself wanting to be the man they both deserve, the man I truly am. But they’ve just escaped from a life of violence, and if Lia discovers the truth about my job, I may just lose them forever.

This book wasn’t bad – if the premise of “Single mom flees an abusive marriage, and finds a protective hero,” sounds good to you, then it’s very possible you’ll like it.

But, this author’s Academy of Stardom is one of my favorite RH series. And I was bored reading this. The main characters and romance are bland. It’s MF, maybe she’s better at writing RH? I’m bummed that I didn’t like this more. I wanted to.

There's not a ton of plot: Lia, a single mom fleeing an abusive marriage, is passing through Princetown, where she runs into Drix, who immediately starts taking care of her and her son. That's mostly it. Princetown is run by 4 families, Drix is in one of them, so there's set up for the next 3 books that will all hopefully be better than this one. They do seem promising! So, hopefully this will be a good series that just has "boring first book" syndrome.

My biggest issue was that Drix’s immediate attachment to Lia and her son felt like insta-love. Usually, this author is better at relationship development. I mean, sure, it took time for them to get together. But immediately after meeting them, Drix was taking care of Lia and carrying her son around. That felt odd and rushed. Especially since, Lia wasn’t showing much personality aside from being traumatized. So, for a long time, it felt a bit icky – like Drix was attracted to Lia’s trauma, not her personality. Like he was fetishizing “single mom in need.”

(It does explain why Drix feels compelled to help her. But, his level of care about her and her son felt too sudden. He could have helped her without feeling so personally invested, and that part could have developed more gradually).

It also felt weird that Drix was instantly all-in on babysitting her kid. The average single guy might like kids just fine. But taking the time to babysit a random kid – especially when he can easily afford a babysitter, like Drix could—is going above and beyond, in a way that felt unearned in this book. This type of story – where a tough-guy hero bonds with the heroine’s kid – works better if the kid gradually wins over the hero, despite his better wishes. Like in At Peace.

As for Lia, I like the type of heroine who had a terrible life, so you just want to root for her! But, there’s a way to write this kind of character where her entire personality doesn’t feel like “trauma.” And it wasn’t done, here. Lia's main traits are "good mom" and "enjoys baking." That's so generic! And her inner monologues weren't vibrant enough to give her more personality or depth beyond that. I know this author can do better. I know she can write heroines who have suffered, but still feel interesting and distinctive.

I’m intrigued by Drix’s friends, who will get the other books. For book 2, Drix’s playboy friend, Dalton, will be paired with Drix’s sister, Daisy, who hates him. And they have to get married and have a kid and pretend to be in love. So, I'm looking forward to book 2. And Sterling's heroine will clearly be his surprise new step-sister that he had a previous one night stand with…bring it on. I was 10 times more interested in the breadcrumbs setting up Dalton's and Sterling's books than I was in Drix and Lia's relationship.

Also, “The Thug and His Doll” is a good title, but it makes this book sound more wild than it really is. I was expecting a story with that kink where the hero dresses the heroine how he wants, positions her how he wants, etc etc. Or, if not that, then maybe the heroine loves getting dolled up and has her own Barbie style wardrobe. But nope. None of the above were in this book.

I’m a picky bitch. So, you might like this book more than me. There was nothing glaringly terrible. It was just bland. The hero and heroine weren’t dynamic, the way that I’ve come to expect from this author. Their romance fell flat. I’m still eager for the other books in this series: Dalton, Ben, and Sterling’s stories.

Everyone who knows me, knows I LOVE a Bea Paige book, but unfortunately this one fell flat for me 😕

✨Millionaire
✨Standalone
✨Single mum
✨Trauma

Bea’s writing was great as usual, I just didn’t go much on the characters. Drix was ok, I just found him a bit sickly sweet and Lia, I found had no depth 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was more invested in two of the side characters.

I didn’t hate the book, I just felt like it lacked something 😕

The Thug and His Doll by Bea Paige is the newest release from her brand new series Princetown Heirs.
A Standalone that follows Hendrix ‘Drix’ Hammer and Amelia ‘Lia’ Pearson in a Single Mom, Contemporary Romance, has the story told through the navigation of dual POVs.

A Slow Burn, Angsty Romance that paved the way for quite an emotional journey to say the least.
Although they started off as strangers, the blossoming friendship that began to bloom, was it any wonder feelings eventually played a part in Drix and Lia’s relationship the more they progressed forward together. The exploration of different emotions faced by the two helped play into their story even more.

Even with some drama that made for some tension filled moments, the path still made for moments of a sweet and deeply heartfelt journey to follow along with at times. At least when it came to the times shared between Drix and Lia, whether it be within their growing friendship or the relation that had them falling for one another. It’s where author Bea ensured depth was presented with adding to the overall narrative.
The fact that we were able to see the unravelling of Drix and Lia’s layers, allowed for their characters to be opened up giving more of a detailed character development as time went on. Resulting in connecting with them as characters, since we were able to get a real feel for both of them from all that was divulged along the way.

Whilst The Thug and His Doll was a good read having liked it. However there were a few things that couldn't be ignored on my part.
For instance the slow pace of the narrative had me wishing that wasn’t the case. Plus with the lack of excitement, it didn't really help, particularly because the pizazz just wasn't there to give it the oomph that would've kept me on my toes. At least not until the conflict came, but unfortunately that didn't occur until much later being closer towards the end.
And with the lack of major waves, it made for a somewhat steady flow pace since the bumps that were there were very minimal and not so effective in having you hyped up. At least not for me.
There was also the case of the ending being predictable and a little rushed IMO, it just ended up being a let down IMO since it fell short for me. Even more so considering how long it took to even get to that moment in the first place.

In the end, Drix and Lia’s story was still a decent read, having me glad to have read it. Especially because of the sneak peeks into the secondary characters, which for me was Daisy and Dalton, whose story author Bea Paige has me excited for.
From what we learnt in The Thug and His Doll about them, something tells me their story The Rogue and His Flower, book two in Princetown Heirs series is definitely going to lead to quite an adventurous journey. So expect me to be ready and waiting for its release.

DNF at 53%

Okay, so this wasn’t a BAD book, it just wasn’t anything special. It fell flat. I had high hopes going into this book but I literally just couldn’t bring myself to read more than a few pages at a time because it was just a bit too cheesy for me. There was no real substance, the FMC lacked flair, her trauma didn’t translate well on the page, and literally her entire personality was her son and the fact she liked to cook.
The MMC was annoying in the sense that he abandoned his entire personality for the FMC and her kid. It just made me roll my eyes too much for one book.

The spelling errors just took me right out of the world (your instead of you’re - affect in place of effect, etc).

I might come back and finish this book. But for right now it’s a DNF.

A bittersweet but brilliant read! Lia (Amelia FMC) is on the run with her son - Toby trying to evade her abusive husband. When circumstances lead her to Princetown and Drix (Hendrix). A sweet and protective man that with the help of his sister - Daisy give Lia & her son somewhere to stay. The relationship that Drix had with Lia and Toby was really endearing.

I loved how Drix tried to change how Lia saw herself. By giving her confidence that she lacked. The part of the book with them both in front of the bedroom mirror and Drix was pointing out what he loved about Lia's body was just heart-warming and by far my favourite part of this book.

Only Drix has a dark background himself and a job within the so called Princetown heirs that is a complete contrast to who he is. It sets the tone that there's more going on in this insular town than what is on the surface.

This was a cracking start to this series and I'm looking forward to The Rogue and his flower now.

I have been obsessed with Bea's previous series so I was curious to see how she would go with a new non related series. I can excitedly say that this new world was fantastic. I loved Drix & Lia, I'm not usually a fan of rich tropes but this was mixed with darkness and Drix couldn't have been more suited to Lia, cannot wait to get his 3 best friends stories.

We have officially entered a new universe and era for Bea Paige and I’m already so invested in everything she has planned! This world has a different feel than her previous one in the sense that it doesn’t revolve as heavily around dark romance! While there were some dark themes, the story itself was much lighter and very character driven; think small town contemporary vibes with just a little crime!

Before we dive into the characters, I want to mention that while the tropes for this story aren’t ones I would usually pick for myself I still had a good time! Despite being traumatized by her previous relationship, Lia’s determination to do whatever was necessary to protect her son Toby was so inspiring! I personally had trouble connecting to her on a deeper level, likely because I haven’t reached the motherhood stage of my life yet, but was still happy to see her growth and character development throughout the story. Drix was the perfect man to bring Lia back out of her shell and to help her reclaim the parts of herself that she had lost. He was so freaking sweet it was nearly impossible to not immediately fall for him! Watching the three of them form their own little family had my heart melting. My favorite scenes were the ones where they did activities like charades, cooking, and playing in the snow together as a family. And obviously when speaking about the Hammer family we have to give the biggest honorable mention to Daisy! All of her moments with Toby and Lia were beyond precious! She was an incredible friend and is going to make the best mother some day! To say I can’t wait to read her story would be a huge understatement!

All of the other side characters were incredible as well! Seeing the heirs’ support, empathy, and loyalty for one another made it very easy to be eager for the rest of their stories. It becomes very obvious as you read who each of their love interests will be and while they were a little predictable I'm still looking forward to every book! I think Bea even introduced some extra characters that could potentially get their own RH storyline in the future! The dynamic of those boys was hilarious and I would be more than ok with a book or two about them! 👀😈

Thinking about what’s next, I am already so freaking pumped for Dalton’s book! Based on what we know, the tropes for his story are much more my speed with the main ones being enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, and brother’s best friend! I really enjoyed the banter between Dalton and his girl so boy am I ready for her to completely knock him on his butt! He puts on a convincing show of being a narcissistic playboy but I have a feeling that once he falls, he’s going to become one of my favorites! I was also absolutely heartbroken to see Drix and Dalton’s relationship become rocky after everything that happened despite their 20 years of friendship so here’s to hoping that will also get resolved. Safe to say that I’ll be impatiently waiting for the release of The Rogue and His Flower until it arrives this summer!

This is my first book by this author, and I can't fully decide how I feel about it... on one hand I enjoyed it and found aspects of it entertaining and the characters interesting but on the other I'm indifferent, the story dragged in parts and the relationship between the MCs Hendrix (Drix) & Amelia (Lia) felt very insta lovey and surface level. Weeks of time after these two meet is jumped, and the bits we are shown of them in between those time jumps didn't give me enough for their feelings for each other to 1. Make sense, and 2. Feel real... Drix seems to take one look at Lia and her son Toby and is just gone for the pair of them, and that just doesn't work for me. The spice between them was good, but without feeling the connection between them and believing their feelings for each other, the spice doesn't really add anything. I need more emotional connection and depth!

I was expecting more conflict within the story than we got considering it's insinuated that the families Hendrix works for aren't exactly on the up and up, but any real conflict we got from that surrounds who I'm presuming the next book in this series is going to be about so 🤷‍♀️ I enjoyed seeing the interactions between Hendrix & Toby and I really liked Daisy's character. I think I'm going to have to sit with this for a bit and maybe try another of this authors books before I know if this author is for me or not. 🌶🌶

This was so so good. I absolutely loved Drix and Lia 😍 Seeing them fall for each other was wonderful.

I loved how patient and understanding Drix was with taking things slow with Lia. My heart broke for him though when he finally confessed the truth to her.

Lia is incredible strong mom, and I loved Toby and Daisy. The family dynamic was wonderful and I'm so glad that Drix, Lia, & Toby got their HEA.

I'm so excited for Daisy & Dalton's book! Gonna be some good enemies to lovers I think! 🔥

Omgggg this baby right here got me out of my book slump! Drix is absolutely everything! This man stole my whole freaking soul! The way this man took care of Lia and Toby no questions asked he just jumps in and they have his heart! Lia is pure strength the way she has sacrificed and has taken care of her and her son. That mama right there is strong. These two together have my heart! Amazing read!

❤️Thank you Bea Paige for the ARC❤️
.
❄️What an exciting installment to a new series!! I adored Lia and Toby. It is rare that I find a book that does a phenomenal job representing single motherhood…but Bea did just that. I really admired Drix and how patient and accepting he was with Lia and Toby!❄️
.
❤️ Although I really enjoyed this read, I felt like it lacked a bit in the middle of the story. I would of loved to see more conflict and a concrete resolution to some questions (keeping it spoiler free atm) that seem to have not been answered. BUT, I am really excited for book two. So, Bea did her job and I want to keep reading!❤️

A beautiful story of rediscovering your true self

We said goodbye to the incredible cast of characters that Bea Paige created with the Academy of Stardom series (and additional interconnected series) last year and now it is time to jump into a brand new world of characters. Hendrix captured my heart within the first 5 chapters. This man is totally swoon worthy with his words. I fell in love with this new group of characters and can't wait to read each of their stories. Drix's genuine heart just burst off the page. Toby's innocence and joy made me smile every time. Lias's self-doubt and insecurities felt so familiar to me, not because my husband treated me the way Martin did but simply from my own thoughts of not being good enough. I love the quirky Daisy getting paired with the fancy businessman (those types of pairings are always so much fun). You will feel sadness, joy, happiness, despair, anger, and heartbreak while reading this story.

Please be aware of triggers as this deals with a woman on the run with her child trying to escape a domestic violence situation.

This was ok, I was hooked in the beginning but then it lost steam for me. Lia is running away with her son Toby, desperately grasping at claws for a better life without a plan. Drix is a strong hand for the four families that run the seemingly normal town Lia has just put stopped on. One unassuming kind act leads to another and before we know it, Drix and Lia can’t seem to stop running into each other. Her a literal damsel in distress, him the small town bad boy ready to rescue her. The plot was.. meh, I was left wanting to know what exactly made this town deceiving, what the four families really did. The spice was pretty good. Happy reading!

We jump right into this new series following Lia and her son Toby a little down on their luck, in a new town in a cafe. They catch the eye of Hendrix "Drix" Hammer who helps by paying for their breakfast and leaving extra money for them....

But he can't stop thinking about them.
By hugs coincidence, they come into his friends bar later that might, Toby with an upset tummy and they couldn't find anywhere else to go.
This is the beginning of Drix helping Lia to find he feet. We discover she's running from a painful past for both her and Toby. And yes, Drix is completely attracted to her but is a complete gentleman. Is this due to her part, or who he is?

Drix is part of the four founding families, but due to a rash mistake many years ago he owes a huge debt to his friends father that's landed him the role of enforcer for them all, and he sees no way put of it. He hates this position
I mean really hates it and even tho he's falling for both Lia and her adorable son, he doesn't want to involve them in that side of him,not after everything she's been thru.

Time ticks on... And Lia finds herself unable to resist Drix too. It's amazing to see her become the woman she must have been before the nightmare she endured. Drix helped that.
Finally they get together.... And then the guilt gets to Drix and he decides to tell her of his other side. The side he hates and loathes and isn't him. But the walls come up on Lia. Reminded of her past she can't do it violence again and decides to leave... Despite knowing she's leaving happiness. For both her and Toby.

We never forget the reason she's here. And that reason turns up on the doorstep when it's just her, Toby and daisy. Drix has been staying at the gym to give her space. Daisy calls Drix for help while an emboldened Lia, thanks to Drix, feels she can stand up to him. At least protect Toby.

A sweet story about an Heir who has a responsibility pushed upon him. A single mom on the run with her young son suddenly finds herself at the attention of him but will she trust him after he reveals this?
Yes there's a couple of spicy scenes but not very dark. Has a HEA, and is the first book in a new series! Easy to read and the story flows well, which I've come to expect from Bea Paige!

“I’ll never stop. I’ll give you everything I am, all that I have, Lia.”

'My heart pounds, throwing itself against my ribcage. It beats so fucking hard for this woman, desperate for her love in return'.

💫Review💫

I honestly don't even know how to begin to put into words how beautiful perfect this entire book was. I was gripped by this story from the first page to the very last, and it has touched me to my core. This story and these characters have taken up residence in my heart, and they will stay there for life. Bea manages to beautifully weave a tale of heartbreaks, healing, found family, regaining trust and such passionate all consuming love all with an underlying representation for the devastating trauma domestic abuse has on an indivudual (not MMC) to absolute perfection. I am utterly in awe of how beautiful this story was and how well written is was.

I loved Lia from the get go, broken as she was she did not let that get in the way of the fact she was a fierce mama bear for her son and even though she couldn't see it herself, a fierce strong woman. To overcome all she did and still battle on the way she did. She's amazing and watching her journey to healing with Drix was Just stunning. I cried with her, I laughed with her, I loved with her. Drix, what a beautiful, beautiful man he is. This Is the real life man everyone needs in their lives. As much as we all love the shadow daddies, this man right here, is the man you need in reality, the one who might be out there waiting for you somewhere. I can't even find words to describe just how perfect he is, the way he constantly raises Lia up, unconditionally loves her, Toby, daisy. The way he puts everyone before himself and will literally kill to protect what he loves. The way he is the kindest, sweetest person you would ever know but also the alpha you know will always protect you. I could write about his character for days I honestly love him so much and I really enjoyed the dynamic between him and daisy and watching his relationship with Toby blossom.

I am also so, so grateful that Daisy and Dalton are getting a book because I fully need that story in my life. This is going to be an epic series and I cannot wait for the rest of the books.

I was not ready for this to end. 100% recommend

This was my first time reading a book by Bea Paige, though I have the Academy of Stardom books on my ereader waiting to be read. And after reading the Thug and his Doll I for sure am putting that series on top of my TBR!

Bea has an amazing writingstyle and knows how to build the story. I loved that she really took the time mending Lia mentally and let Drix work for her. And boy, he is just the perfect man. He was soo sweet with Toby and really took his time helping Lia heal. The author put so much thought behind her characters and the depths she has given them really blew my mind. Like, not only Lia and Drix has a really wide backstory, also Daisy was told about very much. And I loved it that you'll get little snippets of what is to come in the next books. And boy I can't wait for the next books!

This book gave me so many feelings, I laughed and I cried, I wanted to go into the book and give Daisy, Lia and Drix a big hug with what they have gone through.

This book is really a must read if you like, amazing spice, really great backstory's, an amazing storyline, he falls first and he falls hard and a great start of the series.

Thank you so much Bea Paige for this ARC to read and review.

“You make me want to be a better man,”

Oh Drix! This man has the biggest and sweetest heart of all despite all the things he’s been through and now has to do. Adopted son of one the founding father’s of Princetown, he’s in charge of security and enforcement in the founding father’s businesses.
And then he crosses path with Lia and her son Toby. He immediately felt some sense of protectiveness towards the Mother and son especially when he could tell they’re running away from something.

Lia finally got away from her home situation and is ready to start over. Drix and his family have shown her and her son nothing but kindness but she’s still a little wary because she trusted before and look where that got her. As she spends more time with Drix and sees the goodness of his heart and the way he is with her son, she’s starting to rethink her stance. But Drix hasn’t been completely honest with her and his secret might have her running away again and this time far away from him.

Drix is everything! the way he fell first and hard for Lia and Toby will get your heart melting. His patience and tender heart making sure that Lia realizes that what happened to her is not her fault and reminding her how strong she really is.
And Lia, I just wanted to hug her. Her strength in making sure that Toby is protected and cared for despite the things she went through.
And cute little Toby will steal your heart.

Book 1 in Bea Paige’s new world, the Princetown Heirs, is a must read!

Holymoly, I should have known Bea was going to create another kickass world and make me fall in love. The thug and his doll is book 1 in the Princetown heirs series, and Drix is the first heir we are introduced with and BOOM. THAT'S it I'm in love!

I'm so fully invested, and Drix will steal your heart, leave you swooning, and devouring each chapter! There's your darn warning 😍

The drama, intensity, twists, and utter smut and chemistry within these pages is flawless. The way we get a feel for each of the heirs is brilliant, but now to the couple it's self. Lia and Drix are drawn together, and instantly, you'll be rooting for them to succeed. Both have a history that will leave your heart aching, but for me, Drix and his way to heal others is captured beautifully, and the way he becomes enamoured with her son too was heart fulling.

I am so annoyed I waited all this time to dive into this new series!!

I am a huge Bea fan, so I was excited when I saw this release (though, to be fair, I am *still* waiting on the Mad Dick Magenta book that was teased in the Brutal Boys on Devil’s Night anthology).

But…this book just fell flat for me. I could not get into the world or connect with Lia or Drix :/

Maybe unfairly, I saw the description of a giant man with tattoos and immediately thought of Beast, but these characters just didn’t have the same depth as Beast & Grim, or really anyone in the larger Academy world. The world itself also felt a bit like cookie-cutter set-dressing, especially when it came to how wealthy the characters were — which is again odd because guys from Their Obsession and Finding their Muse were also rich, but it didn’t feel as awkward.

There were also places where the writing was just off/felt rushed, including simple errors that should have been caught in editing.

That being said, I did really enjoy Daisy as a character and I’m curious to how her story line works out, so I will grab book 2.

What a great start to the new series - Princetown Heirs.
I really enjoyed the alternating views and it didn't take long to fall in love with Lia and her son Toby. Lia is a strong, determined woman doing anything she can to keep Toby safe, away from her abusive husband.
Drix, one of the Princetown Heirs, has a debt to pay, so acts as the enforcer for the Princetown founding families, often unertaking work he isn't proud of. But he has a soft side, and Lia brings that out in him and makes him want to be a better man. I love how much he cared for Toby, and his sister Daisy is amazing!
There was plenty of turmoil, angst and emotions.
It was great to meet the other Princetown Heirs, and I can't wait for the next books.

Wow…

So first things first, this is more than just your spicy strangers to lovers type of book. This is raw, real, emotional and just an all around amazing story. Drix has become my absolute favorite MMC ever, with his love and devotion and the fact he’s just genuinely the perfect man. Lia is the perfect example of what a strong mother and survivor looks like. I loved this story, and can’t wait to see what’s in store for Dalton and Daisy’s story!!

Drix and Lea

I enjoyed this book. Lea is a single mother on the run from her abusive husband when she is forced to stop at a small town when she meets Drix, a big, tattooed man that shows her the kind of love, safety and happiness her and her little boy never knew before.
But is she ready to trust another man after the monumental mistake she made with her ex?

~ i won an arc for this book so i decided to write a review :)

first of all, i love Kelly’s writing and i was missing it! she can bring out of the page into your heart all the emotions that the characters are going through… and that is really hard to do.

i really liked the characters — Drix way more than Lia but both were endearing and captivating, which made me wanna read and finish their story asap

now the reasons for my 3 stars:

• i feel like it wasn’t very clear what the Princetown fathers were still involved in.. yes it is briefly mentioned by Drix but he didn’t know why he did what he had to; maybe that’ll be mentioned in the next book

• i’m more of a dark romance gurl so i feel like this book was light — it had dark elements, yes but Drix isn’t as dark as i was expecting him to be and he isn’t as dark as they all (and himself) paint him to be… which made me slightly sad and disappointed (lmao) but i kinda understand it the reason for it

• dalton and daisy are my kind of romance so sometimes i enjoyed more their background story than drix and lia’s

GIVE ME MOREEE!

I am so obsessed with this new world and I knew I would be the moment the synopsis came out. Now that I’ve completely devoured this book, I can say with full certainty that I need the rest of them so badly. Bea Paige has once again stolen my full attention. I absolutely love everything Bea writes and this book was no different.

Lia and her son are on the run from her abusive husband. With options running out, they find themselves in a new town where they meet Drix. Drix is a well-known person in town who has inherited a debt that has to be paid. His debt is to be an enforcer for the founding families. In this new town, can Lia trust someone like Drix who seems too good to be true… or will he be like her ex?

Lia’s character has been through so much. From the very beginning, you could tell Lia is a phenomenal mother. Her character is so beautiful and I love that Bea wrote her as a curvy woman. Throughout the pages, you can see how much Lia has grown and it’s stunning. I love Lia.

Drix is my new baby. This man can do no wrong in my eyes. This man was charming, sweet, protective, and simply perfect. Every time Drix would comfort Lia, I swooned hard. THEN the way he treated Toby had my heart melting. I truly loved this character so much.

Now, I need the next story. My anticipation is through the roof because I want to know what’s going to happen between the next couple.

I highly recommend reading The Thug and His Doll and well anything by Bea Paige because it’s all perfect.

✨✨ARC Review✨✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️🌶️/5

“I want you to feel the weight of my love knowing that there isn’t another man on Earth who can make you feel the way I do.”

This is a steamy romance. It will not be for everyone and you MUST check the TW/CW before starting. The content, both on and off page, will not be suitable for everyone. This covers dark topics that may be triggering.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel going into this new world after visiting the Stardom series, but I needn’t have worried as Bea totally nailed it. It was an emotional, all inspiring read. It had a well structured plot; it was challenging, full of heartfelt conflict and superbly written characters. It was AMAZING.

This book gave me all the feels, literally from start to finish. There wasn’t one part of this book where I didn’t feel some form of strong emotion. It had me hooked from the get go. I only put it down because I had to go to work. I throughly enjoyed diving into this new world, it was enjoyably refreshing.

Bea painted such an inspirational picture in what was Lia. This woman was something else, what an absolute trooper. I admired her from the very beginning. She had balls of steel and Bea portrayed her in the very best way. The levels of empathy and compassion that have gone into this story are nothing short of phenomenal. The depth and understanding of the characters dealing with the aftermath of such traumatic events was handled with great care and sensitivity.

Drix… what a guy. I would happily let this man help me any day of the week. He is kind, gentle and patient. Everything that Lia needs in her life. He is like a giant teddy bear with so much love. I adore the fact he is so on board with Toby. I myself have a step father and this warmed me to my very soul. I love everything about him. How he is with Toby, how he careful and gently helps Lia deal with her trauma, his strong relationship with Daisy. All whilst dealing with his own ongoing issues. The man is perfection. His level of possessiveness and need to protect his family is HOT, the man is a walking wet dream. He takes his role very seriously which makes him even more loveable.

I’m excited to see where the rest of series goes, I can’t wait to read the next instalment.

I loved Bea Paige’s previous world and I was so excited to dive into this. I knew it was going to be different especially since I loved all of the characters but it was totally worth it. Another great start to a new series.

You’re going to fall in love with the FMC right away. I was engrossed in her story from the start. There were many ups and downs, both emotional and with the story, that you won’t be able to put your book down. I loved watching her become her true self and she deserves all of the happiness.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect after read the summary but I love this author and I knew I would love these characters as much as the previous. Close, we shall see. I can’t wait for the next book!

The Thug and His Doll is an amazing literary masterpiece, its emotional pulling on the heartstrings of the reader in the best ways, the chemistry and attraction between the Fmc and Mc is electric and sizzlingly. Regarding the steam and the spice, it's more of a medium-slow burn due to Lia's insecurities but once it starts it is off the charts, breaking record levels of heat!

Toby has to be my all time favourite character whilst reading this, he's so cute and adorable and his innocence and his absolute instant adoration of Drix was just the sweetest. His mum Lia has had a hard life and yet she's probably one of the strongest fmc's I've read to date because she got out of an abusive and cruel relationship, alive and with her son. Lia has been so traumatised and her confidence is non-existent after being chipped away at for years so it's no wonder she's so skittish and nervous around Drix and everyone she meets.

Drix is one of the heir's to the ruling families of Princetown and despite his gruff, and intimidating appearance, underneath is the softest squishiest heart that just wants to love and protect people and what he wants to protect most is Lia and her son. A protector at heart, he has such kindness hidden inside so the instant he meets Lia and Toby, he figures out their situation immediately and with his own abusive past he can't just stand back and leave them to suffer.

I think the inclusion of Daisy as a sister figure helped Lia feel more secure being around Drix after what she's been through, she was the perfect side character, a best friend for Lia to talk too, someone to make her feel more comfortable living with a male again. And the way she easily accepts Lia and Toby was so cute, it's so clear that all she desperately wants is for someone to love her. He relationship with Dalton, Drix's best friend was interesting and I think secretly she's hiding her own hidden attraction for him, but because of her past and her belief that she's not worth loving she goes out with others because she just can't believe that he would love her. His playboy ways probably don't help with that but his interest in her is so obvious. Lia picks up on it immediately and Drix is surprisingly oblivious, I also think Drix doesn't know Dalton as much as he thinks. His thoughts and opinions of Dalton whilst being the brutal honest truth I think hurt his best friend more than once, He's clearly hiding something from Drix other than the obvious.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, I do think it lacked a bit of action in the middle and whilst I do think maybe Martin could have come in a little sooner to stir up some trouble I don't think it would fit. The toned down action is needed because of the FMC and her issues and I think if there had been more it just wouldn't have fit with her. I can't wait for the next book to read about Dalton and Daisy's surprising arrangement.
