Sweetheart (suh-weet-hart): Someone who is kind, friendly, and/or lovable. For reference, see Scarlett Kent.

Seventeen-year-old Scarlett Kent likes the idea of love—in theory. She’s just never had time for romance. Voted Most Likely to Succeed, founder of a youth mentoring program, and an aspiring professional violinist, Scarlett has goals—and a list of “firsts” she’d like to complete before graduation.

One thing that’s not on her list: Falling for Sam Bishop.

Flirtatious jocks who sleep through class aren’t her type—no matter how good Sam looks in his jersey. But when her car breaks down, Sam stops to help…which leads to an unexpected offer.

Sam volunteers to help Scarlett complete her list. In return, she’ll help him win back his ex.

It’s a sweetheart deal that should benefit everyone.

But between kissing lessons and pretend dates, Scarlett realizes Sam is the perfect fake boyfriend. And if she’s not careful, he could be her first real heartbreak.

This book features two souls who’re meant to be, one fake arrangement, so many heart-melting kisses and answers the question:

What happens when a perfectionist falls for a player?

"I love you too, Scarlett," he said. His voice was tender and raw and all the best things rolled into one. "I always have. Always will."

Sweetheart was a fake dating, young adult romance that was smile inducing and will warm your heart.  The characters were so easy to love, and the story-line had me finishing this book in less than 24 hours!  If you love books that have a fun and flirty vibe, are beyond adorable, and radiate happiness, then you need Sweetheart in your life!
"Just get in the car, Starlet," he said.
He popped the locks, and I did just that.
As I slid into the car, however, I mumbled, "My name's Scarlett. Not Starlet."
Sam gave me that half-grin. "I know," he said.
Sure you do.

Scarlett Kent had a list of “firsts” that she wanted to complete before she graduated High School.  When Sam Bishop picked her up on the side of the road, after her car died, he also agreed to help complete her list.  In exchange, it would help him win back his ex.  But as they made their way through her list, it was hard to keep feelings just fake.  And not fall in love with the other.
His hand on my waist burned.
His eyes stared into mine.
His breaths were so close I felt as much as heard his next words.
"You okay, Kent?" he asked.
"Yeah, I—"
A locker door slammed loud enough to make me jump.

I adored Scarlett!  She was determined and focused on her goals.  Whether it was the youth mentoring program she worked on, or dedicating hours to become a professional violinist, Scarlet gave her all.  So I love that she was brave and wanted to conquer her list!  Even if she was skeptical of love.  And while she was someone who seemed to like to be in control, I loved watching how Sam pushed her outside her comfort zones in the best possible way.  Especially when he was constantly being the object of her attention.
"I'm not crying."
"Yeah." He reached forward, cupped my cheek, and gently ran his thumb beneath my eye, capturing a tear that had managed to escape. "Must be my mistake," he murmured.

Sam was a soccer player who was so effortless to love.  He was one of those guys who was sweet, but also sexy.  Playful, but could also take charge.  I loved every single side of Sam!  And the little clues he seemed to be dropping were right there, in front of Scarlett’s face.  The way he could say one thing, when it was actually something else had me squealing in joy!  Yet Scarlett was too focused on the end game to see what was truly going on.  Sam will make you swoon, sigh, and fall in love!  I loved him with my whole heart!
Sam was right. I'd imagined my first kiss in a million ways, in different places, different scenarios. But try as I might, even with my overly active imagination, one thing remained the same. There was one face that always came to mind.
His.
But the kiss wasn't real, I reminded myself.
We did it to seal our agreement and check an item off the list.

Sam and Scarlett used to be the bestest of friends, yet that all fell apart when they went to high school.  So there was this tension between them that was delicious.  And as they started to check things off Scarlett’s list, it was so easy to fall that much deeper for the two of them.  From that first kiss, to spinning, kisses on fingers, practicing with a bystander, to mini golf, there were so many memorable moments!  Plus I adored the nickname Sam gave Scarlett.  Watching their fake dating and love story unfold was not only so much fun, but it was heartwarming too!
"Mission accomplished." He grinned, but I just shook my head. Before I could think better of it, I said, "I missed you."
Sam's expression sobered. "I've been right here, Kent."
I nodded. "Yeah, but…never mind."

You know that moment, when what started out as fake, no longer feels that way? When they can’t stop thinking about each other, and the touches and glances just move to another level?  O’Gorman executed making the reader feel all of their feelings and angst beautifully!  And on top of that, there were so many characters that appeared from previous books in this story!  Do you need to read any books before this one?  No!  But I can’t recommend all of her books enough!  Scarlett’s sister’s story was Bookworm fyi ♥.
"One more kiss."
"Whatever you want," Sam said and pulled me closer.
Those words would replay a thousand different times in my mind.

Sweetheart was an adorable fake dating romance story that will have you smiling from that first page to the last!  There were moments that will make you laugh and also have you falling in love.  So if you need a feel good story that will leave you happy, definitely give this one a try!  I can’t recommend it enough!

I am a 100% sucker for this series! I only start to read them if I have enough time to finish in one sitting. I know they’re YA and so silly but for some reason they make me smile, laugh and sigh. I guess I’m just still young and silly. ❤️

For those already familiar with Cookie O'Gorman's writing - Sweetheart is just what you expect from her.

For those less acquainted with the author, it's a sweet young-adult romance featuring a very swoony couple, some fake dating, lots of humor and all the feels.

As a big fan of Cookie's writing, I couldn't wait to get my hand on this book.
Scarlett is a sweet and nice girl who lives a quiet life - and has an increasing fear of missing out. That's why she has made a list of things she wants to do before finishing high-school. Nobody was supposed to see this list, but fate would have it that Sam Bishop, a popular and very recently very single jock, reads her list and decides to help her cross out all the items from it. In return, she'll play his girlfriend to make his ex jealous. All sorts of equal part hilarious and swoon-worthy situations ensue.
Be prepared to wear a goofy smile while reading, because the story and the characters are simply so sweet and cute you can't fight it. For me, Sweetheart is going straight to my list of comfort reads, and I'll be re-visiting it for sure.

Oh the sweetest

Cookie does it again. 😍 Cookie's couples are so sweet. She doesn't create friction by making someone a jerk. Scarlett and Sam are good people and good friends who could make the sweetest couple if they figure things out. I love all the Cameos. I think the way they are brought into the story wasn't confusing if this is your first book by Cookie O'Gorman. It was wonder to see little updates on previous characters.
If you love Kassie West books, you will this story.

The author does such a great job with entertaining story lines and this book was no exception. If you like her other books, you will love this one. It’s book candy for me. I am someone who has read all the previous books set in this world so I absolutely loved every single appearance of the old characters. And there were sooooo many. I think every single one of her couples made an appearance! And that soccer match was my favorite and a gift for us fans. Sam and Scarlett had some pretty adorable scenes and I loved Sam’s family. The fake dating trope isn’t my personal favorite but that’s just me!

SPOILERS and book notes:
This is a fantastic opening line: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that book boyfriends are better than real ones. Seriously, someone should put that on a t-shirt.” Not caring what other people think (especially in high school) really is a super power. They were both each other’s best friends up until high school. Then they both thought the other too good for them… i feel like this happens all the time. “"Any feedback?" "Yeah," he said—and before I could say another word, he crumbled the list into a ball and threw it over his shoulder. "You don't need a backup, Kent. You've got me."” They both secretly loved each other since the beginning! And they both never stopped. Sam’s mom and dad are Sadie and Colton from the good girls guide to being bad! And he has adorable/crazy twin younger brother and sister Betty and Bennet! And scarlet is charlottes younger sister from Bookworm. Viola from wallflower is her cousin. And Sally from adorkable and Lillian are her aunts. I love that Sam kissed her injuries from her violin playing on her hand. To make her feel better. I hate how scarlet brings up Brisa (his ex) every 5 seconds when he NEVER brings her up. I love how nice and helpful Sam is with his younger siblings. It is so attractive when a guy is great with his siblings. I love this and I 100% agree: “"But love is a word I heard a lot growing up. My parents said 'I love you' to each other and us kids every day." Sam took his time getting into position. "I don't think you can use it too much, you know? It's not like there's this finite amount of love in a person's heart, and once it's used up, it's gone. You can always create more. It's one of the only things that really is endless." He swung, but as his ball sailed past, I couldn't tear my eyes off of Sam. "Love should be said more often. Not less," he said. "That's just my opinion." And this part is so true. Say things like this to people: “"Flattery will get you nowhere with me, Bishop." "They were the best, Kent. Because you made them," he said with a shrug. And there he went turning me into a liar. That type of flattery was the kind that fed your soul.” Oh my lanta the whole gang is here!!! Snow and ash, becks and sally, Bo and Lottie, viola and dare!!! All the couples and I am here for it!!!! The adults (becks, ash, Clayton) and the kids (Bo, Dare, Sam) are going to verse each other in a soccer match!!! The trash talk is legendary. Less goooooooo the dads are kicking the kids butts and I love it! They are so competitive vahahah. “"That was amazing!" "That," Aunt Sally said, sidling up to us, "was Becks Kent, still one of the best players of all time, and Ash 'The Whip' Stryker. Two legends, fully unleashed and playing to win."” I love this next line: “"What's it look like?" he said then tossed the material back to me. "You can wear my jersey, Kent." "And what will you be wearing?" Sam shot me a look over his shoulder. "A smile when I see you in it." Oh. Okay then.” I love this about cuddling: “cuddling is like an endless hug” Yeah for Magnolia and Hayden and their band from feaumax!!! Ryker the drummer I am totally shipping with aurora. Ok jk maybe I ship her with the younger brother Felix. That was one of the best confessions of love ever. She hopped on Hayden’s motorcycle screamed “I love you so much it’s ridiculous” then she sped away from Sam. lol. And then Sam followed with his mustang and when Hayden pulled over he got out and said this: “"Are you kidding me, Kent?" he said. "What?" I said back. "You can't just tell someone you love them then speed off with your arms wrapped around some other guy." "Why not?" "Because," he sputtered. "Just because."

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Reading this made me so happy! There is just something so uplifting when reading about first love. I liked that there wasn't all this crazy drama; instead the story focused on growing up, being comfortable with who you are and sweet kisses. Just brought endless smiles to my face.

As someone who has read (nearly) all of Cookie's books, I've certainly come to enjoy her writing style. She knows how to write swoon worthy book boyfriends and heroines that readers can connect with in one way or another.

Plus, all the little cameos from other books and series was so much fun. I'm starting to think though that I need a family tree...

Overall: a great book to binge when you need a pick me up!

Sweetheart (suh-weet-hart): someone who is kind, friendly, and/or lovable. See Scarlett Kent.
☑️
Scarlett loves the idea of love and currently has a check list to accomplish some of her romantic goals, despite the fact that she’s never had a boyfriend or been kissed before. When Sam Bishop comes back into her life after years of them not talking, Scarlett wants him to be the one to help her with her list. What happens as the list gets shorter and neither wants it to end?
📋
I adore a childhood #friendstolovers #secondchanceromance #fakedating trope! @cookieogorman writes such great YA romance books perfect for our teens. I still have a few from her backlist I need to read!

CW: parental abandonment (discussed)

all the feels

Cookie Gorman has done it again! With Jane Austen references, quick wit, and swoon worthy kiss scenes, she made Scarlett and Sam’s story come to life in a big beautiful way. We love a list; we love unrequited/then requited love; we love fake dating. And boy did she deliver! When Scarlett decides to ask her former best friend (who she’s been in love with for years) to help her fulfill her list of goals before graduation, she has no idea the amazing Journey (and awesome kisses) that are in store.
Also, it took me until this book to realize how deeply Cookie O’Gorman has intertwined her books. It was so cool to see characters, whose stories I loved, show up as friends or even parents of the characters in this book.

Sweetheart is an adorable, fun, and sweet YA read!

Scarlett has known Sam for years, but so does everyone at their school. He's a popular jock - one she had a crush on awhile ago. When they strike an unexpected deal everything changes. She will help him get back his girlfriend and he agrees to help her with a list of "firsts" she wants to complete before graduation. The two of them were so sweet together, and I loved how they found something special together.

I don't read YA much anymore, but I will always pick up a book from Cookie O'Gorman. The story was nicely paced and didn't have too much angst or drama. I really enjoyed the characters and story, and the HEA was really nicely done.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Ahhhh, I just can't get enough of Cookie's books! They are all so awesome, but still unique in their own way. I couldn't pick my favorite out of them. They are all my favorites. I'm especially in love with the many crossovers that also happened in this book. Also, the parents vs. kids game was a dream scene!!! Will be forever one of my faves! Can't explain how overwhelming it feels when you meet all your beloved characters from previous books again and see how their stories continued and worked out. It is just a dream come true!! And I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!! I want so much more and my hopes are soo high that another story in this universe is up in the coming. Loved the hints towards the end of the book and especially the epilogue!!! Hope I can live in this dream world for so many more years and get to know every last one of the awesome KENT family and their friends. Maybe even Generation 3. ;)

Beautiful

She's down be it again! I've read 8 of her books, all of the ones that take place in Chariot, or is related to them. All I can really say, is that she's my favorite author. She has beautifully written characters. By the time I finish any of her books, I feel as though I have lost a dear friend. I got butterflies as I read each witty comment Sam and Scarlett made. This is an amazing book, and I highly recommend it.

Sweetheart by Cookie O'Gorman is a sweet childhood friends-to-lovers story featuring Scarlett and Sam. Told from Scarlett's perspective, the plot follows their rekindled friendship as they agree to fake date: Sam agrees to win over his ex-girlfriend, while Scarlett aims to complete her list of 'firsts.'

One aspect I looked forward to was seeing if Scarlett would practice what she preached to her sister Charlotte in the story Bookworm. However, in classic fake dating fashion, Scarlett remains oblivious to Sam's feelings for her and was in denial of her own for him, which can be frustrating, especially due to the miscommunication involved. I absolutely loved Sam, particularly for his words of wisdom to Scarlett. As a big brother, friend, and boyfriend, he is always willing to put himself out there for those he cares about most.

It was also enjoyable to see cameos from characters in the author's previous works, like Charlotte and Bo. The author does a great job foreshadowing potential characters who may feature in their own future books, such as Aurora, who already has her own story titled Introvert, which I'd be open to reading.

sam and scarlett HAVE MY HEART!! scarlett has a list she would like to complete before graduation and like his parents story, same concept, he also volunteers to help. sam’s parents are colt and sadie from “a good girls guide to being bad” while scarlett is sisters to charlotte from “bookworm” and cousins to viola from “wallflower”. the way this book scarlett had a list JUST LIKE SADIE DID. and “starlet” HOW ADORABLE. she’s thinking, he doesn’t remember me and he’s like, i have LOVED YOU ALL THIS TIME. i LOVE childhood friends to lovers and sam and scarlett are just that! really close then fall apart and slowly find their back back to one another and we find out why they originally stopped being friends. i can’t remember sadly but i do know sam LOVES scarlett even if she doesn’t realise. some secret pining love all while they act like a couple to help with her list of freedom. scarlett is such a cute and sweet character that has so much joy. she’s a perfectionist and one hell of a violinist. sam is a flirty and popular laid back guy who plays soccer. on that note, i LOVE this book and series because of the found family/connected family within it! all the characters whether you realise or not are connected and that’s why i love this book!! with the soccer match with dare, sam and bo vs their coaches/dads, ash, becks and an uncle (he was so unserious). i ADORED that scene and to watch as last book couples reunited to play one final game all together!! sam and scarlett and SO AMAZING and i love them to bits!!! please cookie, i NEED ANOTHER BOOK!!

“it is a truth universally acknowledged, that book boyfriends are better than real ones.” real.

sam: weren't you the girl who learned sign language in two weeks so Anessa Langston wouldn't feel left out?
scarlett: you remember that?
sam: yeah. i also remember you forcing everyone else in our class to learn too.
scarlett: but that was in the fifth grade
sam: then in sixth, didn't you become the youngest person ever to audition and get first chair violin in all-state orchestra?
scarlett: i was.
sam: in eighth grade, you organized that meet-and-greet pet drive and didn't leave until you made sure all the animals went to good homes.
scarlett: my cousin, Viola, helped with that.
sam: yeah, but it was your idea. wasn’t it? and when we were freshmen, did you or did you not start up your own mentoring program, convince the school board to fund it, and get other students to sign up and help kids without support?
scarlett: or with absent parents. how could you possibly know all that?
sam: told you, Kent. we’re not strangers, far from it.
WHEN HE NOTICES THE DETAILS ABOUT YOU>>>>>>>

scarlett: i'm not the one who broke his heart when i broke up with him
brisa: no, you're just the girl he pined after for years without a care for his feelings.
scarlett: :o

ash: you got something to say, Bo?
bo: no, it's just…you're old.
ash: oh, thank you. I didn't realise.
I LOVE THIS FATHER SON DUO.

(3.75/5) adorable and really fast paced. I have no complaints about this book, Sam was acc adorable but Scarlett…this girl is SO dumb like he was so obvious about being in love with her and she’s like “there’s noooo way he likes me” GIRL WHATTTTT. miscommunication trope at its finest but that didn’t deter me from liking it so🤷‍♀️
