This book was so gooood! As always, I appreciated January Bell's humor that is a staple in all her books. But especially with this book, I can't begin to count the number of times I laughed out loud or the amount of quotes I highlighted in this book!
This book was very different from what I was expecting. Piper went from such a shy and reserved character to smart, chaotic and bold. I just loved her! In a way, her personality really was like fire itself, which is fitting for being the Queen of the Roth. Piper's humor was the best thing ever! But beyond that, I loved how the goddess was part of her and how the goddess played a role in this story. She was such a mischievous side character, of sorts.
Moving onto Lyko, I loved how he had a harder exterior in the beginning and gradually softened towards Piper, the more he got to know her. I mean he always had a thing for her to begin with, but it was just really nice to see that transformation in him. Lyko and Piper had some really great chemistry, so when I say that the spice was hot, it was sizzlin'!
There's a lot of action that takes place in this book, so it does move along pretty quickly. The bigger obstacle that they had to overcome in this story was very well done! I also want to mention that the Peterpan references were so funny! You better believe I highlighted all of them!
Overall, there was just so much about this story that was well done and it was really nice to see more of this world. With Lyko and Piper set to rule, I'm really curious if Ayro and Billie will get a book for their love story. Orrr, if we'll get a spinoff with the translator? There's definitely some options here for more books!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) review - received copy from author for honest review
This book took a lot of turns I didn’t see coming, including Piper’s surprise personality. In book one she’s this ultra sweet Disney Princess type girl, and in this one she’s showing how big her balls are. Lyko was self-deprecating and believed he would crush Piper’s spirit, but thankfully he was wrong. I enjoyed the plot twists and the craziness of the world. I wanted a bit more of Lyko’s personality to shine through, but we get a decent enough picture as is.

A short but rivetting story with some turns you don't see coming.
January Bell weaved a multilayered universe in this series that promisses to be Epic!
Amazing world building ,action packed and fast paced,but it's the characters and their interactions that make this book a must read,the sarcasm and wit,the banter is absolutely delicious.

Piper is the absolute best! To most, she might appear shy, nice, sweet, quiet and delicate. But that is not who she truly is… Yes, she’s caring and compassionate. But she’s also an absolute fire! Not only is Piper so much fun, but she’s incredibly smart, resourceful, bold, sarcastic and courageous. And she’s quite mischievous, too. Piper is a remarkable and absolutely badass woman and I adored everything about her!
And then, we have Lyko - the new King of the Roth! He’s strong, powerful, dangerous and not one to mess with. But there is more to him than meets the eye. Because Lyko is also caring, considerate, loyal, fiercely protective and fun. And his dominance, possessiveness and filthy mouth were absolutely delicious! Lyko is an incredibly irresistible male and I loved him so, so much!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Piper and Lyko! Being the new King of the Roth, Lyko has a lot on his plate. And to have the best chance in uniting his people, he needs to find a Queen. And here comes Piper, all sweet and willing. No one could expect that the quiet female is on a secret mission to make sure Earth remains safe from the Roth. I adored those two together! The tension, the banters, the inner monologues - everything was so much fun to read. And, when facing danger, Piper and Lyko were an amazing team. Even more, the more time they spent together, the more Piper’s sweet facade cracked and I loved that Lyko had the chance to see the real Piper - a powerful woman, fit for a Queen and a perfect match for him. And the spice was sizzling! The passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot and I couldn’t get enough! Lyko and Piper were a truly perfect match and I absolutely adored them, both individually and as a couple!
In addition, the storyline was incredible! Trying to unite the Roth under the new rule is just the beginning. Then, we have a new, completely unknown and very dangerous alien species. And to top it all, there’s a mischievous and meddling goddess. Every time you think you’ve figured everything out, you’d be hit with another unexpected twist. With everything that was happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end!
Overall, the story is another remarkable addition to the series! It’s filled with fast-paced action, danger, adventure, suspense, twists, humor, smoking-hot passion and spectacular characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every page of it!

Alien in Flames
The relationship building in this book is interesting. Both characters have seemed really nice in previous books, but they've apparently been hiding their more calculating, more realistic, and more primal sides. Which makes this book much more interesting. I liked how the MMC went from liking the “nice” side of the MFC to loving the conniving side of the MFC.
It took an unexpected turn that allowed the main characters time to get to know each other in a real way with less pretense. It is delightful when they figure out they are both ruthless people committed to taking care of their species,
“I’ve seen his truth, though. He’s as feral as I am, and just as good at hiding it.”
And from his point of view,
“She is cunning and clever and unafraid to do what she deems necessary.”
They make a great pair, perfect for building a workable relationship between human and Roth.
This author does a great job of writing about dominance and submission. The actual dom/sub world is so much more varied than the words lead one to think. I think this deceptively simple phrase hints well at it. In the MMC’s words,
““Beg,” I say breathlessly, needing her submission. Needing her permission.”
Permission and submission are not the same but permission definitely comes first. “Beg” is a request for permission, and if she chooses, submission. The dynamics of power and love in their relationship are fun to watch.
I would like a little more explanation of character development. Sometimes I feel like I'm told about a character feature instead of shown the feature in action, or dialogue. Maybe a little more introspective thinking by the characters? So I can follow their thinking and how they change? I'm not sure. On the other hand, I like that it doesn't take 100 pages to describe the background action. It's a romance so I'm way more interested in how the characters and their relationship develop in the context of the world building and action. In other words, the world building should be in the background and the relationship building in the foreground, which the author does.

This is the second book in the Bound by Fire series. I was first introduced to the Roth in Ms Bell’s Accidental Alien Brides series and they were pretty darn nasty. Now I find out that not all Roth are bad and in fact some of them are pretty darn hot… and I’m not just talking about the Royal Line’s ability to manipulate energy and flames!
Lyko is the new, reluctant King of the Roth, his brother having abdicated for the love of a human mate. He is ruthless yet manages to rein in that ruthlessness as he tries to navigate his new position in the Roth empire. He is also hopelessly in lust/love with the human woman he recognises as his mate.
Piper is a woman who knows what she has to do to protect Earth from further invasion by the Roth and she’s not afraid to do it. She has spent most of her life in space pretending to be someone she’s not and manipulating everyone around her, including her friends. This pretend persona starts to fall away once she is wed to Lyko.
I loved watching the relationship between Lyko and Piper develop as Lyko began to see the real Piper.. and really appreciate who she genuinely was. And Piper finally being able to be her true self and be accepted was very gratifying.
As much as I enjoyed Lyko and Piper’s relationship development I absolutely loved Piper and The Goddess’ “relationship”. These two snarky females had me snort laughing more than once as they jockeyed for position.
This is a fast paced story and Ms Bell will keep you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages to see what happens next. It has just the right amount of humour, action, angst and heat to make it a must read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

But her facade starts to crack when she starts hearing a voice during the ancient Roth mating ceremony, and she starts to worry that she might be in over her head. Then Lyko and Piper are abducted on their way to deal with political unrest in the empire. Can the two escape their captors, or will Piper’s true personality undermine everything she’s worked for?

Lyko is barely containing his more feral inclinations and his delight in each revealed aspect of Piper’s character is palpable. As the characters learn to trust each other with their true nature, they find that they may just be perfect together.
Alien in Flames is a quick-paced alien romance full of snark and sarcasm. My only complaint is that the book was over too soon! I wanted more time with Piper trying to con Lyko and more time with them conspiring together. A thoroughly delightful read.

Book 2 in the Bound by Fire series
This book is about Lyko and Piper. Lyko is now king of the Roth after his older brother abdicated the throne in the previous book, Alien On Fire. I am absolutely in love with Lyko and Piper! Piper is more than she seems, and she is determined to do whatever it takes to help (and save) the human race. Lyko has been drawn to Piper since he met her. However, he's afraid to let her know how he feels because she seems so naive and innocent. The challenge this couple has to overcome is one of my favorite tropes! However, I do feel like it's a spoiler, so, I'm not going to tag or explain what this couple has to overcome. Don't worry, this is a book by January Bell, so you're in great hands and you're in for a good time! :)
Compared to the previous book, this story has considerably less angst. Now, I do love angst and enemies to lovers (who doesn't?), but it's also nice to have the couple get along, communicate, and be adults. I absolutely needed this less-angst break. A beautiful story with a beautiful couple... I think I might like this couple even more than Nydo and Leigh (shhhhh, don't tell anyone! It'll be our secret.) ;)

Another hit from January Bell, this book had me kicking my feet from the jump when Lyko is pining hard af like a paragraph in. Piper isn't all that she seems to be, and their dynamic when they see the real versions of the other is everything I want in a romance. There is a lot of action and drama in this tale which was fun, great Earth references and jokes on language translations, and so much more Roth. The Roth might be my favorite of the alien species we've been introduced to, and I'm so excited for more. Below are some of my top quotes!

This was a fun, quick, steamy and delightful book. It was the perfect weekend read to get you away from the hum drum of weekend chores and rocket you across the galaxy for exciting adventures and steamy romance. January Bell proves ounces again that she can write the most amazing stories in any genra. This is my first Sci Fi Romance by her and I had absolutely no problem shifting from her Fantasy novel to this. I was equally able to fall into this book without having read book one. Granted there were.some references to characters that were introduced there first, but I was quickly able to pick up the clues and fall into the story.
There was the perfect blend of intrigue as Piper played the part of the perfect Earth woman when in reality she's was the best suited bride for the king, and unbeknownst to her, she was his perfect queen. Feisty, Sarcastic, Creative, and a Fighter she is everything that I love in a SciFi FMC and her king is more than match for her in every sense of the word. Forced to into the arena together after being captured as gladiators, this pair must work together to survive the games and their passion for each other.

This was another fantastic story from January Bell! Lyko and Piper were so explosive together and their chemistry absolutely bled from the pages from the moment Piper offers herself up as his mate. What starts as a simple marriage-of-convenience slowly blossoms into this beautiful union between two souls who want to protect their people. Neither Lyko nor Piper dared to hope for a true mate bond as they are set to rule Roth, but fate has woven them together so seamlessly that their connection is undeniable. I loved how Lyko allowed Piper to become her true self and ditch her princess persona, while Piper was the perfect queen to help him rule. Their relationship and banter was absolute perfection, and I cannot wait for the next book🖤

Loved this book
Following the first book readers get a view into the 2nd couple featured Lyko and Piper. Both enter their marriage with different energies, Lyko fearing for his seemingly sweet and innocent human wife. Piper willing to give it all to save Earth and prevent more human tragedy. I really appreciated the faster pace of this book. There wasn't a need for a ton backstory or explanation of other characters since the world building and foundation for it were laid by the first book Alien on Fire and the Accidental Alien Bride Series. It read to me like a perfect continuation of book one. The chemistry between.them is almost instant both of them unable to deny how true their mate.bond is. Especially when both of their truths are laid bare. Piper is more then she seems and once she admits who she is without fear of losing Lyko all bets are off and her husband Id more then happy to embrace her cunning Queen era. I also enjoyed they way the understand each other, no messy communication mishaps. They make a great team. As always with January bell the introduction to new characters has already laid a hood foundation for another interesting Spin off.

This book kept you on your toes right up till the very end and the main characters are perfect for each other even with them both having secrets from each other. Lyko is the true Roth King who has fallen for Piper who is shy and innocent and he doesn’t want to to scare her but he wants Piper to be his Queen and now they are heading to a meeting when they are attracted and now they will learn just how bad he really can be and his mate is no shrinking violet also and this shocks him. Piper is one of the woman that was sent to Suevans by Earths Government but they where to be brides and new nothing about it but Piper was put there to help Earths People from the evil Roth and now she is Married to the true Roth King Lyko and will save Earth from the inside and is now playing the part of shy and naive but when it all goes wrong she shows how really strong she is and Lyko is so surprised and thrilled that she beautiful and strong and the perfect partner for him. There is so much more to this amazing book and is a definitely must read.

Sometimes I just want action and adventure and some laughs and some good ole alien smut and damn did this deliver. This was fun! And somehow so much intrigue and adventure for a pretty short and fast read.
Lyko had become the reluctant King of the Roth after he brother noped off with his human mate, and it’s being suggested that his own mating with a human woman would help solidify his reign. Lucky for him, the human he’s lowkey obsessed with (Piper) is happy to be that mate. Piper gives off sweet naive Princess vibes, but secretly she’s a cunning former spy. She wants this marriage of convenience to get a say in protecting Earth, but neither of them are prepared on how quickly this marriage of convenience will become the real thing. Their new marriage is immediately tested when their trip to outer settlements is thrown off course and they must work together to survive.
This was seriously so fun! There’s bread and circuses! There’s a sarcastic goddess in your brain! There are SO MANY “MY WIFE”’s (my kryptonite). There’s excellent spice! I cackled and gasped while reading it. Technically it’s the second and reading Alien on Fire (about Lyko’s brother) would help with background info, it’s not necessary to read.

I love these aliens in the Bound by Fire series. This book we’re with the newly crowned Roth King, Lyko who was thrown in the deep end of ruling after his older brother abdicated the throne in book one.

Lyko has unexpectedly become king and tasked with the burden of putting his people and planet back together. Piper will do whatever it takes to protect Earth even if it means marrying the enemy. Piper is forced to reveal her true self but Lyko is enamored with her even more once she lets down her guard. Lyko is all alpha but so sweet and protective toward Piper. Their marriage heats up quickly and is put to the test right away in this story. This is a fast paced book full of action and steamy moments between the married couple. I do wish the book was longer. The plot felt rushed and lacking in detail in parts. I did see some opportunity for new stories in this universe which I hope can be explored. Overall this was a quick and entertaining read and I hope to read more about the Roth in the future.

The second book in the series brings Piper and Lyon together in a marriage to secure his place on the Roth thrown after his brother chose to step down. Piper’s apparent innocent frailty scared Lyon and has him feeling guilty for involving her in his plan. Unbeknownst to him, Piper is actually a master manipulator and a secret Federation spy. She is determined to protect the human interests prevent the Roth’s from harming Earth or humans ever again.
These two are well suited and are a perfect pair as they are thrust into a dangerous alien environment after being abducted on their diplomatic tour of Roth installations on other planets.
This story has plenty of sizzle and adventure to keep any reader’s interest fully engaged!

Such a fun addition to the series!
Lyko is the new king, a role he never thought he would take, and is struggling with the weight of the responsibility. He’s also so smitten with Piper, but believes he isn’t good enough for her. He feels ashamed for the depth of his attraction since he sees her as a frail human. I loved his angst and self-loathing in the beginning. Thankfully for him though, she is much more than she seems. She has let everyone think she is shy and sweet to get what she wants, but she’s actually bold and brave, and Lyko loved her even more for who she truly was.
My only gripe is that I would have liked to spend more time on Roth and see more of the court politics, as well as Lyko and Piper being rulers. Or maybe also all three of the brothers together, since Nydo and Ayro weren’t in this at all. Regardless, I liked the action in this one and I’m curious to see what happens next. Will Ayro and Billie get their book? What will happen to the translator and her golden mate? I can’t wait to find out!!

3.5 ⭐️- there’s just so much going on I got a bit overwhelmed, but I really liked Piper and Lyko. I love how multidimensional they both are and how they love each other through it.
Piper is a human spy, with her mission being: protect humans from the Roth threat. She is on Roth, with the chance of a lifetime. Lyko, the new king of the Roth, requires a bride, a human one. Inserting herself is the best way to complete her objective. She and Lyko are formally mated in a ceremony in the ancient ways of his people. This begins her difficult task of inserting herself and securing the humans safety.
Lyko thought Piper was shy and meek, but was supremely pleased to find out she is strong and ruthless when she needs to be. Unfortunately for them, Lyko discovered these traits when they are being captured by unknown enemies. Taken from the ship and forced into an arena, they must work together to survive.

I love January Bell's fantasy romance. Reading her alien romance is a bit of a stretch for me, but it's January Bell! Alien in Flames is a very fast-paced, spicy read. I would recommend it for a break if you are feeling overwhelmed with books that have heavy topics. Alien in Flames is just fun. I liked Piper and Lyko better than the couple in book 1, Alien on Fire. They were just better together and had a likability factor that the first couple did not, so I would recommend this book if you like Alien on Fire or even if you felt you were on the bubble with the book. I will probably not be branching out to other alien romance books, but I'm willing to try anything January Bell, so 4 stars from me!

I’ll be honest… I did not think Alien Romance was for me. I was prepared not to love this book but figured I could still review it based on the writing. Well… no surprise (I mean honestly… I knew if anyone could do it it would be January) that January Bell was the one able to pull me to the dark side (joking of course) with her amazing writing. I absolutely loved this book. The storyline was incredible. The human/alien dynamic when the alien knows so little about human culture or lingo made for such amazing banter and some hilarious conversation. I was literally rolling and laughing out loud. I’m so glad I was able to read this and can now say I’m an alien romance book fan.

The worlds our author has created are so rich in detail, I felt as if I was right there. Walking the halls, in space, slogging through the water and trying to climb a tree; all so realistic. I love the strength in Piper and her slowly unveiling her true self to Lyko. He was thrown into being the King, feeling so unprepared and yet with Piper at his side, he's ready to jump in. Until they are abducted.
January has created amazing characters and worlds in her story. The plot twists, danger, quick thinking, steam and love drive the reader to keep turning the pages. She writes of slavery, cruelty, and hardship, yet her characters find so much to live for. A great story.

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) for this book, this is my honest opinion.
Alien in flames is a short and fast-paced read. It's full of action, I enjoyed the trials that Piper and Lyko faced, it was entertaining and there were some very unique elements and twists I did not expect.
I wish there was more chemistry between the two MCs. Yes they are horny for each other but I love me more angst and desperation 😅 That and the fact that Lyko seemed to have lost his personality as soon as he mated Piper, made me take a star off. He seemed so certain that he was going to ruin her then just basically erased himself and let her run the show. I needed more of him and learning about his background, but it was still good and I liked it.

I really enjoyed this next story in the roth / bound by fire series! lyko & piper had such a fun and powerful dynamic between them that I couldn’t help rooting for. while it packed some heat, there were tender moments that made my heart smile.
The gladiator arena trope was a fresh take in the world january bell created and I liked how the couple took it on bravely and found much needed strength in each other.
A perfect amount of worldbuilding and lore, just enough to intrigue me without being too much and had me interested by the potential future stories in his series and world.
would highly recommend and can’t wait for more bound by fire books!

This book did not take the turn I thought it would. It was better, and I absolutely loved it.
It was really interesting to get to know Piper and Lyko better. Book one gives you a little taste of them as side characters, but you get alllll of them in this book.
Piper is inspiring. She will do anything to protect earth, even marry a Roth King.
Lyko believes Piper is a sweet, innocent woman. However, he's proved wrong (and loves it) as he gets to know her.
I love how he's kind of a marshmallow for her too.
All in all, this was such a good read. It had adventure, some chili pepper moments, and I can't wait for the next part of this story!

loved it !! love this series/spin - off... love Piper and Lyko... this is their story.. a fast paced action packed drama... the Roth King... seeks a wife... Piper the sweet fairy Princess is not who she really is... so good !!! she has a mission and she'll do anything to make it happen... King Lyko is perfect for Piper, he thinks she's too sweet, too good, just too innocent for him.. the real Piper is perfect for him... his Queen and don't you forget it.. goddess marks... taken captive... the Arena... saving a world... so good !!! read this in one go!!!

These characters took me by surprise. Both were hiding parts of their personality in the previous books, which left me happily shell shocked, especially with Piper.
These two have chemistry and together, they will rule Roth and restore faith in their people, except for that pesky kidnapping….
I laughed out loud so many times and thoroughly enjoyed it when these two finally admitted their feelings for one another. NGL…some very hot scenes!
January Bell is one of my favorite authors, and if you love some off world romance, definitely read her books!

She’s done it again! While this book was a bit shorter, it was action-packed and leaves so many questions about where this universe is going (in a good way!) I love how Piper came into her own and Lyko was obsessed with her initially, then even more so when she showed her true colours.
