The former cattle drive Trail Boss was not a fella to be trifled with and darn dangerous when riled.
In the heart of the Wild West, Ash Logan's reputation precedes him. As hard as the sunbaked earth, he's accustomed to leading with an iron will and a fair hand.
As a Trail Boss, he knows the rugged life, leading cattle drives with precision. Tasked with a seemingly straightforward cattle drive to Abilene, he soon finds himself thrust into the tumult of Trinity City's lawlessness.
When Ash apprehends two rustlers, he unwittingly becomes entangled in the town's web of corruption. Threatened with imprisonment, he reluctantly dons the badge of Sheriff, only to uncover layers of deceit lurking beneath Trinity's façade of respectability.
Amidst the mystery, a traitor lurks, orchestrating the town's descent into chaos.
With Comancheros, renegades, powerful ranchers, and a conniving Judge pulling the strings, Ash realizes that restoring order requires more than just firepower—it demands cunning and courage.
As tensions reach a boiling point and the town teeters on the brink of chaos, Logan allies himself with unlikely comrades, including the enigmatic Cassy and the formidable Talasker. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that runs deeper than anyone could have imagined.
But as the dust settles, he realizes that the battle for justice is far from over. In a land where deception reigns supreme, Ash must rely on his instincts to unmask the traitor within—before it's too late.
In a tale of old-west grit and determination, Ash Logan must navigate the murky waters of betrayal and loyalty to save Trinity City from descending into the abyss.
I liked this book alot. Kick butt get rid of the evil!! This is 2024 and we need this kind of law enforcement in our congress, senate and the DOJ!! Forget about the other ABC's they are just toads. Go Trump!!!!!!
Love Robert Harvey's books always plenty of action and intriguing people to ponder where the real culprit lies. Once you start the book you can't put it down.
If you like a great story written by a great story writer; then you have found it here. I stayed up very, very late into the night and into the early morning, and enjoyed it immensely. Thank God that I am happily retired and can do this.
I don't recommend this book if you don't like 3rd perspective. I've tried and tried to get through this, but this book is just not for me. I wanted to let others know that if you don't like 3rd perspective (they have insight to the characters thoughts and feelings), then this book isn't for you. I also can't stand the way the author used Ash Logan's name is several different ways in just one page. The author would call him Ash, then a sentence later Logan, a few sentences later Trinity County Sheriff Logan, or Trinity County Sheriff Ash, or simply Trinity Sheriff. At first I thought it was just Ash Logan's character he would use his name interchangeably with, but oh no, he does it with any character that enters the story, and mind you, I only read to page 36. Pick a name and try to stick with it, or at least 2 names for one character. It was so confusing!!
Ash Logan, is a tough sheriff--with a conscience, but can deliver justice!
A book that keeps you wanting to read more! You can't hardly put it down. You have to find out who the bad guy is! You can feel the innate goodness of the sheriff, but he is armed, and ready for what is about to happen! Smart and lucky--a good tough guy!
After starting and stopping several books I finally found this book and got hooked. Violence? Excitment? Mystery? Yes. .,I am looking forward to more interesting stories by this author
There was more bullets flying on many of the pages. Most of the people who got shot deserved it; however, there were several that did not. Robert Harvey has portrayed the western lifestyle as it probably was. One will enjoy this book.
Loved the way the main character, Ash Logan, discovered his true self as circumstances took twists and turns frustrating him, challenging him, and watching him evolve into a western man to be reckoned with with.
I would recommend this book to all western enthusiasts it was a little far fetched but after all it is fiction I am a long time fan of Louis lamour and Ct petit but will be reading more of this author
I gave three stars because the book was very good. Action on every page. The cursing in the book was not needed. It doesn't sell a book. I won't read another by this author.
To paraphrase a navy description, This is a high ordnance manure kicker. Only slightly less ammunition was used in this book than was expended on D-Day. It was an enjoyable, Exciting and interesting story.
It's hard to write good fiction. The story here is basically fine, but the author could do with less descriptive of how bad/crooked/conniving/ dangerous etc - and more time on plot and story.

Robert Harvey has opened the Ash Logan series with a stirring tale of action, which is full of twists and turns. It is also a skillfully rendered who dunnit. I look forward to reading the second book in the series.
