My mind told me to fly to the safety of the secret cave Mother and I had once shared, for my mother had warned me that men brought only heartache. In truth, I wanted to flee. But I wanted him more. His masculine spices—a mixture of sweat, leather, and sage—assailed my senses as he drew near. He sat beside me on the stone hearth, warming his hands in front of the fire. “Are ye hungry?” “No.” A shiver coursed through me as the scent of desire pulsed off his skin. He frowned. “Are ye chilled?” “No,” I said, clenching my hands to still my trembling. What had come over me? How had a mere mortal reduced me to a quivering flower? “Then what can I do for ye, lass?” He clasped my small hands in his, the calluses on his fingers chafing my smooth skin. I pondered his question. What did I want him to do for me? I wanted him to show me what it felt like to spend the night in the arms of a man. I wanted to feel the intimacy of his mouth on mine, to understand why mortals so easily fell under the spell of desire. But most of all, after six years of traveling alone and missing the familiarity of a kind word or a tender hug, I wanted to feel loved. I silently stood, unlacing my bodice and letting my dress fall to the floor. I turned up my chin, meeting his shocked gaze with a subtle smile. “Can you make love to me?” “Aye,” he said on a throaty growl. “I can do that.”

“How fast can you fly? Faster than a locomotive?” “I’m not sure, but I can outpace any bird.” He sank back in his chair and heaved a sigh. “I'm green with envy.” I dropped my gaze to the sand as I reflected on my life as a dragon princess. Seventeen years running and another five hundred hiding. No friends and no family other than my mother.
Tara West writes books about dragons, witches, and handsome heroes while eating chocolate, lots and lots of chocolate. She's willing to share her dragons, witches and heroes. Keep your hands off her chocolate.
Tara West's young adult and new adult romances have been Kindle bestsellers. A former high school English teacher, Tara is now a full-time writer and graphic artist. She enjoys spending time with her family, interacting with her fans, and fishing the Texas coast.
Tempest of Fire by Tara West is a story about fated dragon mates but mostly its about the struggles between the mother and daughter.
Right out of the gate, there was a fairly graphic love scene between Fiona and Duncan. I would have liked there to be more of a relationship developed between them even if it was supposed to be a one-night stand. Their relationship needed more of a connection to make me believe they were pining for each other for 500 years.
I did understand Fiona's feelings as an overprotective mother although her methods are a little extreme. Safina is young and impulsive and I can understand her feelings as well. Her mother's methods of protecting Safina are so extreme I'm surprised her character wasn't more rebellious.
The story had multiple pov's, which I liked because I got to see what was going on in multiple characters' minds. I would have liked to see more of Duncan in his 500 years of searching and well and Greachen. I thought those characters were absolutely fascinating.
I thought Safinas relationships with Abby and Gabriel was very sweet. Although Safina is pretty impulsive with Gabriel it didn't feel like insta love in the same way as Fiona and Duncan did. Her friendship with Abby goes through some ups and down and I thought it was one of the more realistic in the book.
I had fun reading this and I think other fantasy fans would too.

I honestly enjoyed reading this book. I started during the week, but when weekend hit I couldn't put it down. Each character had a vivid personality and the storyline sucked you in. Yes, it was fantastical, but I suppose that's what you expect with a story about dragons! I will be adding Tara West to my list of authors to keep reading :)

A lengthy novel stretching out over centuries starting with Fiona and Duncan, a dragon princess mating with a human dragonslayer, then moves on to Safina, the child conceived in one passionate night. After cocooning them in the ocean for 500 years to hide from humans while pining for Duncan, they end up in Galveston. Fiona can't refrain when healing people and Safina is rebellious wanting a normal life with friends. The storyline supports quite a few sub storylines to keep you reading not letting the interest waver. I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you BookSirens
Thank you booksirens for an eArc copy of the book.
I'm so glad I hvad the opportunity to read this beautiful book. I absolutely feel in love with the cover and as a person who definitely adds books into collection just by the cover. I'm so glad I did! I'm so here for the dragons, and the interactions. The change in pov was enjoyable and easy to follow. I would recommend!
“ I’d vowed long ago never to lose my heart to a man. Men brought only heartache. I’d learned that from my sire” “The Tempest of Fire” is lengthy fantasy novel written by Tara West that stretches out over centuries, focusing on reuniting a beautiful yet unexpected family. Fiona, a dragon royal falls in love with her mothers murderer, a well-known dragon slayer who goes by the name Duncan. Through this short-lived coupling, their daughter is conceived, and blinded by the guilt Fiona feels, takes her child, and goes into hiding. Five hundred years later they are forced out into the world again while Duncan gets closer and closer to finding them. Will Fiona be able to move past the death of her mother and forgive her mate in doing so, or will this family be torn apart forever? However, this novel also follows, Safina in her journey of first love, friendship, and classic teenage rebellion. While also making the main point the love between mother and daughter, even when everything falls apart, they are still undeniably bonded and care deeply for one another and come to a mutual understanding. “Sleep my child, and when ye wake The dawn of love again will break As frosted fields give way to spring The song of love again you’ll sing The summer rains and falling leaves Grant the lovelorn slow reprieve. Slumber all ye hatchling queens. Two hearts entwine in dragon dreams.” The novel has tropes of fated mates, found family, slow burn, and more. Themes include jealousy, healing, forgiveness, and love. Tara West provided a unique, passionate, and inspiring message into this novel and its clear she put apart of herself in here. West provides many perspectives as well as several characters for her audience, and all are thoroughly thought through. Unfortunately, the character development for some characters was to rapid and seemed rushed, which also made the story line choppy and a little confusing not to mention awkward. However, certain characters developed nicely in proper ways to complement their situations. For example, it makes sense that Abby’s character development was more rapid given the event that set it off, where Safinas was good however certain parts were not given enough time nor attention. Fiona’s one character that was developed slow, and personally I wish we saw more of her inner conflict as well as Abby’s. For both of those characters we were only provided minimal details and it would have really helped the development and understanding of both characters. West also used Gabriel as a punching bag too much… Not sure what was up with that but give the poor boy a break and pick on other characters sometimes. I know numerous characters had near death, and experienced being assaulted however Gabriel got the most of it. That card was overplayed and frankly made the story repetitive. As for the writing and plot itself, it should have been separated into two novels perhaps three. This would have provided room for more details without it feeling so rushed. The intro as well as the end were both extremely fast paced, and I am assuming that was because the number of pages. There is nothing wrong with a fast-paced story though, it was the number of details that were skipped and would have greatly appreciated by readers. However, Wests ability to sew these stories together to make one is amazing. She is a great author, and I hope to read more of her work. I especially liked seeing the unique take of putting multiple POVS in one chapter, though the chapters did become lengthy due to this creating some frustration during the reading process as different chapters were dry. Not to mention that romance was not the main point of this story but the relationship between mother and daughter. That is not something I see in most books, and it is interesting to come across and is something I hope more authors will try. West did an amazing job at describing the scenes and you can tell a lot of effort was put into this including the word usage. This novel was definitely worth the read and the author knows how to keep a grip on her audience even when the story reaches a slow pace. It is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story, and anyone who enjoys fated mates and magical realism should give it a chance…just be prepared to cry. A lot. Since we are on the topic of emotions here is a list of trigger warnings: Mentions of animal abuse, heavy amounts of loss, suicide, assault, misogyny, racism, death, gore, and many more. Be aware of these things before deciding to read the novel and take into consideration the state of your mental health and how you handle these topics. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to booksirens, Tara West, and the publisher for a free e-arc of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily and I hope it finds the right audience because this novel deserves many reads and tons of love.
This was MY KIND OF BOOK. I loved this book! So why only 4 stars? I gave this book 4 stars, because I felt it could have been EPIC. The background on the characters was a tiny bit lacking and we definitely did not get enough of the original love story. (Duncan & Fiona). Also, I do think a book can have TOO MANY point of views. This one did and my favorite characters did not have enough chapters.
Alright, here is what I LOVED about this book:
*Drama
*Dragons
*Mother/Daughter Relationship
*Enemies to Lovers
*Friends to Lovers
*Female Friendships
*Historical Setting (A real one)
*Magic/Fantasy
*Desire for Independence
*Fated Mates
This story begins with the *original* love story of Duncan & Fiona in the 1400s in Scotland. Fiona is a dragon princess and Duncan is a dragonslayer. Duncan kills Fiona's mother, but Fiona doesn't learn this until after she and Duncan are mated. What is she to do? She chooses to run from him and hide. While in hiding, she has their daughter and raises her. They flee from village to village to keep their immortal forms a secret, and to evade Duncan. Finally, in one village a man threatens their safety and Fiona calls on a friend to hide her and Safina, her daughter, in the depths of the ocean by means of a magical dragon sleep-coma.
500ish years later, in 1900, Duncan is in America, still searching for Fiona and Safina. Fiona and Safina awaken and end up in Galveston, Texas. Fiona's friend, Graechen, a magical sea octopus, puts them in touch with Josef, an Earth Speaker. Earth speakers used to protect dragons, so Josef is tasked with guarding Fiona and Safina. Josef has 5 grandsons, one of which is Gabriel. Gabriel and Safina are the second love story.
When Fiona & Safina arrive in Galveston, they sent to a woman named, Mrs. Jenkins. Mrs. Jenkins offers free room & board if they heal her granddaughter, Abby. Mrs. Jenkins was told by Josef that Fiona is a great healer from "the old world." Fiona agrees to heal Abby. Unfortunately, Abby's injuries were fatal and her healing sets off a series of events that leads to the main plot of the story.
The main reason I loved this story, is because of 2 fated mate relationships. I love LOVE. Any kind of love story that has a happy ending will put me in a good mood. But I also loved this story, because of all the elements that I could identify with. Fiona & Safina's relationship is deep and sacred, but also on rocky grounds, because Fiona refuses to allow Safina to be an adult. Safina wants to be free from her mother, fall in love, and find friendship. I can identify with this 100%!! Abby has the best character growth, and had me in tears at the end of the story. She starts off as selfish and entitled, but saves her best friend in the end. Finally, Fantasy Romance + Historical Fiction is probably me to a T. I didn't know this genre existed, but now that I know it does, I want more!
To have received 5 stars from me, I think it would have been to stick to a more central plot line. Almost every character had a POV and it made the story branch off in many different directions. Fiona's mother, Duncan, Josef, and Abby all had story lines and viewpoints that just didn't go far enough for me. Had that been the case, this would have been EPIC and definitely received 5 stars.
To sum up, is this book worth reading? YES. YES IT IS. I highly recommend reading this book. You won't regret it!
I received this book as an advance review copy and I am leaving this review of my own free will.

Scotland 1423 Fiona Firesblood has been searching Scotland for Duncan McQuoid for years, he is her enemy after all, a fearsome dragon slayer who has killed her kind before. One night a handsome and intriguing stranger helps Fiona out of a bind, she is drawn to him in a way she cannot understand. Their fateful meeting ends with an unexpected night of passion until she learns that the stranger is none other than the dragon slayer that she has spent years searching for. Fiona flees, but not before they have been bound together by fate and a mating bond.
Desperate to find his love and make things right, Duncan will continue to search for Fiona forever if he must, and she will continue to hide from him forever if she must. He can sense her and time is on his side due to him sharing her immortality through their mating bond. When he finally begins to sense her presence again, it is the year 1900 and she is now in America, Galveston, Texas.
The world has changed a lot since Fiona has been asleep on the ocean floor. One thing will remain the same however, Fiona's fierce determination to keep Duncan away and her willingness to do anything to protect their daughter Safina. Safina loves this new world and she has discovered that she might have found love herself. While she is determined to get closer to Gabriel, her mother is determined to keep her from making the same mistakes that she did, because nothing good can come from trusting a man, especially a human man.
I loved this book! The story was well written, and there were multiple stories within the main story, I first thought that the relationship between Fiona and Duncan was going to be the main point, but the mother daughter relationship between Fiona and Safina was the key point in this story. One was trying to grow into her own person and the other kept revisiting what she thought were mistakes that she had made in not listening to her own mother while she was alive and she didn't want to repeat what happened, so she tightened her own hold on her daughter sometimes forgetting that she was actually a grown woman and not a child and she failed to treat her as such most of the time, which only served to push her daughter away more into the arms of a human man.
There are so may different categories that I could put this book into, Fantasy, Romance, Historical Romance, but there were also elements of suspense and mystery thrown in and I was hooked from the very first chapter!
I loved the vast expanse of time in this book, we got to go from 1400s Scotland to 1900 Texas, and the author was able to beautifully describe the scene and setting in both places so well that I could easily picture myself there. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and romance, even if you are someone who usually doesn't like historical fiction, give it a try because I think you will be pleasantly surprised, besides you can never go wrong when there are dragons involved! I will definitely be checking out more of what this author has written in the future!
Tropes & Themes: Mortal enemies, second chance, fated mates, dragon shifters, lost princess, former great war
TW: Parental loss, attempted assault, generational loss and trauma, attempted suicide
3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I enjoyed this book and am so glad I kept reading! I was a little lost for like the first 20%. Push through. There is a ton of jumping around at first but it all interconnects… eventually. In POVs and in timelines. I adored the mythical creatures and the lore and wish there was more of those creatures. Tara did a great job showing how humanity can be the true monsters.
This book had me full on sobbing. I wasn’t sure about literally any of the characters but they reveal their personalities and grow on you. I was not prepared to be so emotionally invested by 80% the way that I was! The stubborn, grief ruled mother almost ruined it for me but the character arcs and realizations were amazing to read.
It really isn’t something I’d read before and I wish I’d had more Josef time! I really did not know how this would end up wrapping up and just when you feel some relief Tara shoots you in the heart with another arrow. Then gives you what you need by the end.
Short book summary: Lost dragon queen flees the truth of her soul mate and carries herself and their unborn daughter far away. Acting in grief and fear, she hides the two of them away from the man who hopes to redeem himself and reunite with the only two women he cares about. A bestie mythical creature takes matters into her own hands we are introduced to a small town full of friends, gossips, and people who care and show up in their own ways. Safi, fully grown and tired of being locked away from everything, is ready to embrace it all. Fiona is less convinced but cannot help but help those who come to her. Can she protect them and prepare for everything she has been running from?

This is an epic read so be warned make sure you have snacks and drinks cause once started you will not be able to put this down! Dragon shifter falls for dragon slayer not knowing who the other is nor that he had slain her mother until it’s too late and they find themselves bound to each other forever! It’s a wonderful read that spans 500 years and we find ourselves in Texas in the 1900’s with Duncan still searching for Fiona and their daughter Safina. Normally feared by humans, our dragon shifters find themselves in the small town of Galveston and Safina makes friends as well as falls in love much to her mother’s dismay. It’s a story of love, romance, heartache, heartbreak, and acceptance and it had me laughing places and crying like a baby in others, swooning a few times and then breathing a huge sigh of relief as our extraordinary characters must come together to face a storm like no other and helps others along the way. It’s an incredible journey, intense, gripping and unputdownable as we meet some amazing characters and experience a bond that lasts forever!
This book is a little different from others in the way that chapters have multiple people's point of views. Not just from the main characters, but their families, friends, and others as well.
There are also multiple main characters in this book. Fiona, a dragon whose mother is killed before the story, even really begins. Duncan, a former dragonslayer and Fiona's mate. Safina, Fiona and Duncan's daughter. Lastly, Gabriel, which is Safina's mate. The chapters mostly alternate between the four of them, but as I mentioned, others get chapters as well to help the story progress when they aren't always there.
I found that the book hit a little bit of a lull towards the middle, but I kept going. It was definitely worth it because it really picked up fast! There's good character development, and despite the horror everyone had to go through at the end and the heartbreak, it had a pretty great ending for everyone.
Tempest of Fire is a Magical Realism story and a slow burn.
I love a fated mate story, especially one with dragons. This book has almost everything, love and lust, grief and despair, greed and longing, along with a whole slew of interesting characters. Surprisingly Fiona isn’t one that I could like, but I loved Duncan, wanted more of what his life entailed over the 500 years he was trying to find Fiona; Josef, a Speaker who plays a vital role in the whole story, again I’d have liked more about him. And definitely the Graechen, there’s almost a whole book there.
The story is written from multiple points of view, which is interesting and gives a nice overview of what’s happening. At some points the pace is so fast you can barely breathe trying to keep up, at others I almost felt like skipping a page or two. However, it certainly kept me entertained right through to the really interesting end.

For full disclosure, I was provided this book as an ARC.
I wanted so badly to like this book. I really did. But it was just meh. It was almost a DNF for me, but I wanted to finish the story to see if it improved.
What I liked about the book. The pairing of a dragon shifter and dragon slayer intrigued me and parts of their relationship felt genuine. I liked certain characters coming into their own (sorry trying to not give anything away).
But what I liked less was the flow of the story. It was choppy and just didn’t flow well. The character development occurred far too rapidly, especially with some. Other character development was good, but lacked some in depth discussion about it. Abby is an example of this. Loved to see her change, and while the reasons were valid, it was abrupt.
Honestly it was a struggle to not give this a 2. But it had so much potential for a great story.
This story is about multiple generations and healing broken hearts and the trauma broken hearts can cause. It is duo pov. My favorite couple in this is Gabriel and Safina. They are perfect in every single way for one another and complete each other wonderfully. If you like dragons, magic mixed with fated mates, a horrible man with a cane with a hidden weapon who causes chaos that must be taken care of, oh and hunkering down for a hurricane then this is perfect for you as there is never a dull moment. Even with how eventful the story is the emotions in this book is a rollercoaster. I regret reading this book during a busy week because I hated having to put it down and adult! I found myself rushing to get what I had to do done so I could get back to reading as fast as I possibly could to find out what was happening next.

I absolutely am in love with this book! Hundreds of years ago, Fiona is looking for the dragonslayer who killed her mother. One night she is saved by a man who she knows is her bonded mate and then realizes that he is the same man who killed her mother. She goes on the run from Duncan since she cant kill him (he is now unable to be killed unless she is dead) and has a daughter. When she can't escape, she and her daughter take refuge in a dragon nest in the ocean. When they come back, it's in the year 1901 in Galveston Texas. This was great since it follows the great hurricane that devastated Galveston during this time, and her daughter has also found her bonded. I loved the story of not only Fiona and Duncan, but also the love story of Safina and Gabriel.
TEMPEST OF FIRE is a love story about two generations of dragons and their mates. This premise and the blurb itself attracted me to this book. And it delivered as promised but I felt that it offered so much more.
The story is told through the points of view of the various characters. I just wish that list of characters was shorter as I didn’t really get a chance to ‘know’ any of them. This would have help to clear up another issue which was a character totally changing her complete mindset. Perhaps if I knew her better, this change would make sense.
Overall, TEMPEST OF FIRE is a solid offering just not one that I would recommend to my friends. There is some violence and death but nothing too graphic. The same goes for sex so readers of all ages might enjoy this book.

OMG! Sweet jesus!!! I can't believe how awesome this book turned out to be! I had read the two original ones ( and loved them) and really wanted to see what changes you will make to turn it into only one book with a different POV and I can say that you blew my mind!! I love how much we can relate to the characters now by experiencing with them the pain, the heart ache, the doubts, the joy... Characters that I thought were spoiled or brats turned out to be my favorites in this new version. I loved both love stories and seeing Safina and Gabriel grow into their powers and I am going to stop before I put a spoiler, lol. What you need to know is that the book is awesome, so well written and flows easily, it will not let you go until you finish it!!
This book is fantastic!! I loved it, and I became so engrossed with these characters that I found myself so emotional. I was sad, angry, happy, in love, scared and devastated. West writes brilliant, complex, inspiring, devoted and devious characters!! I am sad to say goodbye to them. I will say the ending seemed a little rushed, but very satisfying. I’d definitely read this again!
The Romantasy standalone has it all: romance, family, friends and found family, dragon shifters, dragon slayer, magic and so much more!! I can’t recommend this book enough!! I loved this story’s amazing, inspiring moments and the power of love!! West never disappoints!!
An epic story. This is the story of Fiona who scorns her mate, Duncan, and runs away. She will hide her daughter and will evade Duncan's search for her for centuries. When Fiona is forced to reveal herself centuries later, her daughter, Safina is ready to find friends. Duncan is determined to find Fiona and Fiona has a plan to break their bond. Safina will find love with Gabriel and they will be faced with a tragedy that will have surprising results. This story is full of emotions, different centuries, danger and a happy ending. I enjoyed reading this great story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you BookSirens and the publisher for this arc.
Tara West is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I am so impressed with her ability to weave these stories that seem so incredibly real from fiction. The characters were phenomenal. I don’t usually enjoy books with multiple points of view, but being able to understand so many motivations and back stories was perfect for this book. I loved the plot and the different relationships between everyone. Though there is a fair share of suffering, there was so much beauty at the end. Absolutely loved it.
Tempest of Fire by Tara West ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dragon shifters, dragonslayers, elemental magic, fated mates, family relationships, multiple POV’s, this book had it all. I really enjoyed this book. I did find the first 75% to be kind of slow leading up to the hurricane section of the book. There was a lot of information and different things happening and I found it hard to follow at some points. But overall it was an enjoyable, stand alone fantasy that I think other readers would like. I received this book as an ARC and leave this honest review voluntarily.
I loved this book, and I may be biased because I was born in Galveston and lived close my whole life. Seeing the location made me interested especially mixed with fantasy and dragons. I do not want to give any spoilers away but I loved the world building and the plot was amazing. I liked that it was a stand alone but wish I could learn more about the characters. I also really enjoyed the dual point of view! Grab this one you will not regret it!

This book was very difficult to get through. It did not catch my attention at any point. The characters did not feel relatable. My favorite part of the book was the last few chapters, but they were not worth having to get through the beginning. In the middle of chapters, there would be odd divisions, sometimes changing POV, sometimes not. This disrupted the flow of the passages, making it difficult to concentrate.

This book is fantastic. Once you start reading it, you will discover that you are unable to put it down, no matter what you need to do, this book needs to be read. It moves along at a pace that is the perfect fit for the story, making for an enjoyable and easy read. The characters seem so real that you feel as though you know them and no matter what you cannot help but love them. This book will not disappoint you, it needs to be read and on your TBR list.
Dragons in Texas. What more do I need to say. I enjoyed this story, the dual main characters, mother/daughter duo. However, the ending felt rushed and a little too convenient. The events that lead to the ending felt a little arbitrary. Like the sentiments of those guys towards Gabriel and people like him seemed to come out of nowhere. But it was a fun read, maybe 0.5 chilli pepper spice rating.
Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free and I'm leaving this review voluntarily
While I did enjoy this book it was a bit flat over all. I believe if the two story’s had been separated there would have been room for more detail. I would have loved to have more around the parents and them getting back together I just feel like it was all pushed together to make it fit in one book. But like I said to did enjoy it just would have liked a bit more to it.
oh wow, this was a really great read! i love the transcendence of love thru time. and how fate inevitably brings you back together. bonus, there's even a second part where the next generation also experiences her own tumultuous, yet ultimately satisfying love story. i love the characters, their strength, their vulnerability, their depth. great book!
I Love this original and interesting concept, as well as the story and characters.
This is actually two books in one. The was this was written appealed to me and I Loved the story and think that this is a wonderful read. Dragon and a Dragon Slayer, sort of Buffy vibes, I just Loved it!!! No spoilers!
ARC Review ✨️ ☆Captivating Fantasy☆ From the start, I knew this was about to be an amazing read! This story has dragon shifters, Fated Mates, second chances, unexpected romance, and much more! It's also written in dual pov! I can't express how much I enjoyed reading this book and learning about the different characters and the world building!
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing style, or the time/POV jumps. At several points I had to backtrack and re-read because it was confusing. Good premise, I enjoyed the base of the plot, but overall this book just wasn’t a hit for me. I was very tempted to stop reading it but I read it through to see if I would change my mind but really unfortunately it didn’t change much.
I did enjoy it although I found it a bit slow mainly in middle of story I think also some of the events happening irritated me a lot which is really a good thing as it meant I was part of the book and being empathetic.
