Rate this book
Beautifully done book showing how to plane and build a realistic model railroad layout. Written by Britain's famed modeler Barry Norman, the book provides step-by-step guidance on the specifics -- trees, structures, etc. -- but in the context of how to create that vivid sense that the scene is real. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos and numerous drawings. 66 pages.

If you build portable model railroads or large scale dioramas you will find this book highly useful. Some items covered are:
A decent intro to artistically composing the layout/diorama, not well covered in most works
A practical form of lightweight module construction
Modelling mostly rural English countrysides - not as useful for us urban, desert or forest folk
Scenic compression and backdrops.

Thankfully Wild Swan publishers have finally embraced the 20th (not a typo) century and you can order this from their website.
