A mystery on a boat… Can leave you swimming in doubt. Onboard Kitchen Manager and amateur sleuth, Lorelei Baker, got more than she bargained for on her first river cruise. It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, but she’s looking forward to her second voyage.
When a guest’s jewelry goes missing, however, and two of her kitchen helpers come under scrutiny, Lorelei dives into an investigation.
With a handful of possible suspects, and a clique of passengers who seem determined to create as much drama as possible surrounding the case, Lorelei has to get creative in her attempts to get to the truth.
Unfortunately, the more she looks, the more it seems that one of her kitchen helpers might indeed be the guilty party.
Can she crack the case and locate the culprit before her crew’s reputation is sunk? Find out in this exciting Culinary Cozy Mystery!
Lorelei Baker is still recovering from her first cruise as a kitchen manager. She never thought she’d be dealing with a murder investigation at her new job. Fortunately, it’s all behind her and she’s about to go on her second cruise. She’s nervous but excited at the same time.
Things get off to a rocky start when one of the guest’s jewelry is missing and all eyes focus on two of Lorelei’s kitchen workers as the guilty party. She decides to investigate on her own, but it’s not easy to find out what really happened.
This is a light, quick mystery. It’s perfect when you have a couple of hours and just want to unwind. There is no murder in this cozy mystery book, but I was totally captivated by the crime and the characters. There are characters to love and a couple to dislike. The storyline is intriguing and makes you think.
This is the second book in the series. The mystery is contained in this book, but I recommend reading the first one too. It gives you an inside look at how Lorelei found herself on a cruise ship in the first place. Both books are entertaining page-turners.
After a couple of weeks off, Lorelei is excited to get back to work. She has planned out all of the meals for the kitchen for a short 7 day cruise and a longer 12 day cruise. This one is a 9 day cruise so she is all set. They have a new captain who has made some changes, not the least of which is to give the kitchen some new staff members. They are off to a rough start when right off the bat one of the new helpers in the kitchen is accused to stealing jewels from a passenger. The very loud mouthed pushy lady doing the accusing is over the top and Natalie gets banished to her cabin for the rest of the cruise. Lorelei finds this unacceptable so she starts digging around in her off time and ends up not only finding the stolen loot but also the person responsible for it.
Working on a cruise ship does not mean it is easy sailing. One of the guest jewelry goes missing and the suspects are few. They are not making things easy as they cause more drama than needed. The more Lorelei investigates, the more likely culprit seems to be a member of her kitchen staff. Will she be able to figure out the guilty party or will someone get away with the crime? A fun breezy read.
This author’s very talented at writing characters that readers love and can’t wait to read more about, but she’s also great at making up characters we absolutely can’t stand either, lol. You’ll know which character I’m talking about almost as soon as you start reading! There was no murder this time, but the mystery was still really hard to put down, and there was a good showdown type ending too. Can’t wait for the next book coming later in the month!
Lorelei is back on board the ship for her second sailing. The new captain has made some changes that included giving her more staff in the kitchen. Everything starts out smoothly until a passenger complains that she lost her jewelry in the dining room. From there the mystery deepens and ends with something of a surprise ending. A fun read.
Mary Jane did my head in😅 but it’s because of that that I knew it was her. I hoped that there would’ve been bigger consequences regarding her false accusations towards the staff.. I get it, she’s lonely and feel left out- but it doesn’t excuse being a conniving downright cow to all, including your friends, one of whom she stole from. Ugh old people.

This is a great creative storyline. I love the mid-life career change theme for the protagonist. The mystery was complex enough to be interesting but not so complex as to be unsolvable. Love the characters and how their relationships are developing.
