Working with my close friends in our small hometown’s police department has always been my game plan. Focusing on my job with Piper Falls PD and moving up the ranks quickly was my goal, and I’ve reached it. Falling in love was never on my agenda.

Until Krissy drops into my life. She’s beautiful. Magnetic. And aloof as anyone I’ve ever seen. She puts up a front that’s impossible to penetrate and runs when people get too close, but I’m not one to give up easily.

When Krissy’s dark past comes pounding at her door like a pack of rabid raccoons, my protective instincts flare hotter than the Texas sun. If anyone wants to get close to her, they’ll have to get through me first, and I’m a force to be reckoned with.

I took an oath to protect and serve the people of Piper Falls, but I’d lay my life down at the devil’s feet if it means saving hers. Despite my brothers’ concerns for my safety, she’s my endgame.

~ Embracing My Duty is a small-town, open-door, cop romance with graphic and violent themes, domestic and mental abuse (not perpetrated by MMC), and adult content that may not be suitable for all readers. ~

🔥🔥

Krissy has been to hell and back and now she’s living in terror. Scared of an ex finding her in Piper Falls. The worst part is Ryland’s a cop so when Texas lieutenant, Caden, shows up, fear is her first reaction. Because as far as she’s been shown, all cops are bad with a god complex.

Yet Caden still manages to find her cracks and prove his worth. That he’s not a bad guy and he only wants to help her.

From Killer, Krissy’s protective German Shepherd to all the good boys in blue, our FMC manages to rise from the ashes.

There’s spice, lots of action, some darkness and more sweetness to cure it.

My heart strings were tugged at throughout this book. The FMC has a fear of leaving her home and a fear of law enforcement due to a crazed ex.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, she has to face her fears and ultimately trust her gut and her dog to guide her.
Will she stay in her bubble or venture out into the unknown?
With twists and turns along the way, I was kept guessing when I mistakenly assumed wrong about a couple of parts.

This book surprised me in ways I wasn’t expecting! From the first page you get a look in to the FMCs trauma but you don’t quite know the extent of what happened. Throughout this book we see glimpses of what happens to her and how this is affecting her in real time. This book is definitely on the heavier side of emotional and deals with events that lead to the FMC not trusting men.

Although this book deals with heavier topics, getting to see the FMC open up and trust again was done so beautifully. The MMC never pressured her and he was such a nice contrast to not only her past but how some MMC are written. You can have dominance without degradation and the spice within that was done so so well!!

I would say this book is definitely spicy but because of the FMC trauma it’s not much but the filthy words the MMC says is sure to make you sweat!!!!!!

They take things slower and it builds their emotional connection and really shows that you can care about someone no matter how much you want to bend them over your counter!

I think overall this book has a good mixture of spice, found family dynamics and small town romance you could ask for!

Tropes:
Cop romance
Touch her and 💀
Alpha Male
Protective Dog
Small Town Romance
Mysterious FMC

Content Warnings:
Graphic Content
Domestic Violence (not by MMC)
Mental Abuse (not by MMC)
Sexual Assault (not by MMC)
PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder from DV and SA not from MMC)

**this book is a 4.5 stars for me simply because I do not like time jumps in books and there were many. I understand that because this book is shorter that it is needed but besides that this book was good! I enjoyed it and thought everything played out perfectly!!**

This was a great emotional story with lots of twists and turns and a wonderful start to a new series that I can't wait to read the rest of the books in .

I loved how instead of making her feel bad or ashamed about what she was going through, Caden helped her to learn to trust again after everything her ex put her through.

One of my favorite scenes was when they were on the couch together watching a movie along with when he tells her about the costumes he bought them for the Halloween party.

I also love the little Easter egg that Melony put in chapter three when Krissy's talking about the new book she's reading. Also, for those of you who haven't read the book yet, see if you notice the connection between the author of the book and the Piper Falls sergeant who first appears in chapter 14. 😉

Another favorite scene of mine from "Embracing My Duty" was in the epilogue when Krissy tells Caden to behave and he does the robot voice, that scene was so funny!

This was a really great quick read and I look forward to starting the next Station 28 series book. 🙂

*I received an ARC from Carxander Publishing and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Embracing My Duty is the first book in a new series based in Piper Falls and the Police Department, Station 28. This book is the story of Caden and Krissy and covers very difficult themes such a domestic violence and sexual assault (not perpetrated by the MMC).
The story is hard hitting and the subject is covered very well by the author. The background of Krissy is covered with sensitivity and helps to understand her character and the difficulties she faces. The relationship between Caden and Krissy slowly builds and its lovely to see Krissy come into herself as the story develops.
If you are looking for a quick read with with a happy ever after with a possessive MMC who falls fast and loves hard, this is the book for you! I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series!

I always enjoy a story from this author. She has a way of blending a good mystery with romance. Theres a plenty of suspense and while it may be obvious where it’s going, it’s still a journey to get there that I look forward to every time.

If you recall the Piper Falls series with the fireman, you’ll remember this little town and we’re back but this time with the police department. There’s plenty of triggers to be aware of in this book, mainly DV and SA as they play big parts in some backstory. The backstory is given to us in flashbacks and I love that about this story. It really builds the connection with the character and allows you to root for her success.

I definitely enjoyed this rollercoaster of a book!

This is the first book in this series. Caden has been watching not in a creepy way. Just in the way a cop keeps track of his surroundings. Krissy has been keeping to herself. Not going out and not talking to anyone. Can Caden crack her hard outer shell. He knows something is going on and he just wants to help. Krissy wants to trust him but his profession makes it hard because of personal experiences. Can Caden prove he is different in time to protect her? Trouble is closer than Krissy knows. Caden is going to prove to her that he will do anything to protect her. In the process will he be able to show her that he would like more than friendship? This book is a great read. Krissy deserves a happily ever after. Great job once again Melony Ann.

Embracing my duty

Embracing my duty is a fantastic book. I loved reading it. It is the first book I have read by Melony Ann, and I can say it didn’t disappoint. I cannot wait to read more from Melony Ann.
In Embracing My Duty, I loved how it kept me on the edge of my seat and how I wanted to know what happened next. I love that it had good comedic relief when it was needed. The story was good and had relatable characters and an easy to picture setting.
Embracing My Duty, is a book geared for a more mature audience, more for readers 18+ as there is some content that may not be suitable for some readers.

I’m really obsessed with these possessive, protective heroes of Melony Ann. This time reading about how the cop falling head over heels with his neighbor was really fantastic. I love it, everything, the suspense was intense as the romance. The friendship and trusting from brothers, friends, coworkers and with Krissy and Caden was perfect too. I love how they go slow but keeping the fire there. All the interactions, the brothers were hilarious and all the flirting was on point. K!ll3r was a perfect addition to the story as well as Jimothy.

Krissy has been hiding out at Piper Falls, lives with her dog and basically keeps to herself. But her neighbour notices her, and can sense there’s more to her story. Caden is the local cop, and vows to keep her safe. But when her dark past comes back to this small town, things really heat up.

This book is fast paced, quick and easy to read, and gives you lots of action, intrigue and steam. Thank you @melonyannauthor for the e-ARC of this story. It was just the change of pace I needed.

Krissy was brutally abused by her ex-boyfriend, Ryland, who was a cop. To escape, she changes her name and hides away at her grandparents’ place in Piper Falls.

Caden is a cop at Piper Falls Police Station and her neighbour. He is intrigued by Krissy and soon learns the sad truth. When Krissy’s safety is threatened again, he ropes in his brothers to protect her.

I loved how great Caden was, taking things slowly with Krissy, showing her his love through his actions and actively asking her for consent.

The ending was just pure suspense and ends of nicely with a happy ending.

Omg once again Melony Ann has blown Mr away. This books start off with a strong pull and makes you gasp but also be like holy smokes. I love the fact that Caden was very patient and calm always around Krissy aka Phoenix. Once aspect I really love is the ending the full circle, this was such an amazing ending truly. Another aspect I love love is that yes Phoenix got out of a abusive relationship with Ryland who happened to be a cop then she made her new love interest a cop to show not all cops are bad and built her trust back and confidence

This is a must read book! Between the emotions and the situations I was on the edge of my seat while I was reading. I thought everything that was thrown in the MC’s way was handled and answered perfectly. The end of the book is everything I needed because of the poetic justice. I felt so bad for Krissy the whole book because of everything she had to endure and the end made sure she was given her peace.

Overall, I’m recommending this book to everyone I know! Great job on another amazing book Melony Ann!

Embracing my Duty is the first book in the Piper Falls: Station 28 series. This is a multi-author, shared universe. This is also a standalone.

This was such a great book. Please keep in mind, there's some sensitive content that may not be suitable for everyone. Please check your triggers. This felt very realistic and the way Melony handled the mental illnesses, was wonderfully done. This is an emotional but also beautiful read. This is my first introduction to Melony Ann's books and wouldn't mind checking out more!

I absolutely loved this story.its short but still has action, sweetness, love etc.
It has a couple of triggers, but nothing graphic.
Krissy has been through so much with her ex,which was a cop,but she finally fought back and then left so she couldnt be found.
Caden is a cop and neighbour of krissys and omg he was so patient, loving, protective of krissy. He was such a darling to her.

Unbelievable. This one has triggers. Be prepared. Krissy has lived through h*ll. No person should have to go through what she has. Caden is there to help but never expected the issues she has. She was married to someone that was suppose to love and protect her, a cop. But he turns put to be the worst thing that can happen to someone. She needs lots of time and understanding to move on. Caden is there for her.
I cried, have no problem admitting that. This one pulls on your heart and mind.

I lovedddd this book so much. I'm honestly so sad that it's over. I love Caden with my whole heart and soul. Him and Krissy's romance and relationship build was one of my favorite things about this book. Besides the details, and how the story flows so smoothly. Melony knows how to keep the story going, and how to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I love this, I can't wait to read more of this series.

I have a feeling this series is going to be amazing! Another wonderful read by Melony. She never ceases to amaze me with her books. They tug you in right away and I am so glad that I get to be an ARC reader for her books!

I loved reading Krissy and Caden’s story. They were such a sweet couple. Caden was so protective of Krissy and all he wanted was to protect and love her with everything he had. Krissy deserved all the love Caden gave her.

I can’t wait to see where this new series will go. I look forward to reading more and I highly recommend checking out Melony’s books!

Once again, I got lost in one of Melony's books. I wanted to scream and shout so many times. I also wanted to throttle a few characters. I love Caden so much. His dominant and protective nature is just what Krissy needs. This book has everything and is the perfect start to the series.

Our main characters Caden and Krissy are perfect for each other. I just love how Caden doesn't give up. My heart goes out to Krissy. This woman has been through h3ll and back but never gave up. She shows how truly strong a person can be. This is a great start to a new series.

🚔The gorgeous and caring police Lieutenant to neighbor

How wonderful it was to get back to Piper Falls (this time to the police station). We all know that not all officers are the same, but you can't help fall in love with Lieutenant Caden Andrews. His patience, but still firm and energetic way of wanting the best for others are so amazing and beautiful.
