When designer Amber Wyatt gets the opportunity to project manage a lucrative contract with The August Room, an exclusive and glamorous private members' club, she can't wait to get started.

That is, until she meets handsome managing director Finn Hawthorne.

Finn has no respect for her hard work, continuously undermines her, and, worst of all, has the uncanny ability to charm everyone he meets. Everyone except her.

Launching The August Room in the UK is Finn Hawthorne's baby, and he needs it to go well. With nepotism whispers following him wherever he goes, he needs this to prove that he deserves his most recent promotion.

So can you really blame him when he keeps clashing with his designer? Not only is she charging him a small fortune, but she keeps dismissing his ideas, and, worst of all, she's drop-dead gorgeous and seemingly immune to his charms.

Forced to work together in close proximity to meet the tight launch day deadline, sparks begin to fly, and the fine line between business and pleasure starts to blur.

What was supposed to be a career-defining project leaves them both wanting more, but will they take it, or will one last job destroy everything they've built?

One Last Job is a dual POV steamy workplace contemporary romance.

One Last Job is a he falls first, dislike to love, workplace romance following Amber, an interior designer overworked and underappreciated, and Finn, Ambers' new charming client. I loved this sweet romance and how Amber and Finn were so protective of each other. They had a rough start at the beginning of the book, but, as we learn more about the two and Finn shows Amber just how considerate and endearing he is, it is so easy to see why she falls for him. The man was smitten from the very start and was determined to help Amber in any way he could, I loved that he was so interested in the things she was passionate about and was happy to tag along and give her his undivided attention. While I think the pacing in the book could use some work, this was an absolute breeze to read and I will definitely be exploring more from Anise Starr!

finn hawthorne… the man that you are.

I don’t like blonde MMCs but this one (along with aaron warner) somehow tickled my fancy.

From day one, Finn was DOWN BAD. Even without being fully aware of it, he just wanted to make Amber’s life easier but stressed her out at the same time with being a micromanager.

Amber was so fun to get to know, she was passionate, strong and funny. I liked how dedicated she was to her job and how she was ready to fight anyone who made it seem ‘easy’.

the romance, the banter, the old characters coming back for a cameo, it was all so beautiful😭.

This books a great, easy workplace romance that i can’t recommend enough.

ahh my first 5-star of the year!!
“It’s going to be a long night, but there’s a Finn-shaped light at the end of the tunnel and knowing that is enough to keep me going."
↪ plot:

Amber, overworked and underpaid, has been put in charge of yet another interior designer project, except this time, the managing director is way more invested in the process than any other before. Finn, a workaholic and constantly dismissed, is tired of his hard work not being acknowledged and takes this project as an opportunity to prove his worth. Because of this, he feels the need to control every detail, including what Amber is already in charge of. Both of them will butt heads and clash opinions but also realize they have more in common than what they think and see in each other what everyone else doesn't seem to.

↪ thoughts:

I enjoyed this one way more than the previous book. You can tell this one was written with more experience, and I love seeing authors improve and find their style the more they write.

Amber and Finn were a delight to read about, and by the way, the synopsis makes their relationship way more hostile than it actually is. They argue and get annoyed but also realize they truly get each other. They understand why they act controlling in specific situations while submissive to certain people, and they find a safe place within each other to give themselves the credit they deserve.

They haven't had the best time lately, but they work hard, keep learning, start valuing themselves more, and make the necessary changes to live the life they want. They're so supportive and caring of each other, and there's nothing as beautiful as a relationship where you blossom together.
“Don’t do that.”
Her brows furrow. “Don’t do what?”
“Make yourself small.”
Her lips part and, even with the distant sound of the contractors working below us, I swear I can hear the way her breath catches in her throat.
“You don’t have to do that around me, sweetheart.” I’m not going to dismiss you. I’m not going to make you feel like your wins don’t matter.
Finn is so playful, flirty and supportive, always wanting to make Amber laugh and ready to remind her of all the work she puts out there and how much better she deserves. Amber is so soft on the inside but firm when it's needed, and brings Finn an opportunity to reflect on all the work he's been doing and learn to stop carrying the weight of everyone's thoughts and decisions. They're both great at communicating, have the sort of chemistry that makes you feel content, and have amazing ways to explore their sexual tension. Just a delight to read about.
"At some point over the last three months, Finn has wormed his way into my life and become a staple."
There's also no third-act breakup. Instead, you get to see them develop a connection, act on it, start to have feelings for each other, admit to the other one that they've fallen in love, and find a way to make their relationship work without interfering with their personal goals. And I think that's beautiful. I spent almost all of this book smiling and felt so happy reading the epilogues, knowing they made it all work. I love a book that makes me feel like this.

(I'm trying this new format for my reviews by adding a little plot summary before my in-depth thoughts since I read lots of indie books and want to get y'all interested in more of them and their authors, regardless of if I liked them or not.)

I really liked this. It was my first book by this author and it didn’t disappoint. This was an easy/quick read and both characters were great. I love a good workplace romance with a billionaire mmc’s. The romance was believable, cute and there was a bit of family drama/issues to go with it. I need to read the other books by this author asap.

Read if you like:
- Workplace romance
- Interracial relationships
- Steamy scenes
- Slow burn
- Quick reads

There was no steam. It’s Insta-love… They were literally client and employee. How was it forbidden and an office romance?
It was everything but that.
There was no sexual tension. He was just a nice guy with uncle issues and Amber a stubborn girl with low self esteem. Could’ve been more developed.
I’m disappointed.

It may have taken me nearly two weeks into the new year to decide to finally read something but at least it ended my first 5 star read of the year 🥳 Smiles were large throughout this whole book!!

I absolutely adored Finn 🥹🥹 he was definitely my favorite of the two. There was nothing wrong with Amber I just didn’t like how she handled some situations. I wish we would’ve gotten more showing and less telling both with how their relationship blossomed and how she handled her boss. While the scenes of the two of them were adorable and i loved them all, I wish there were more. Idk I feel like there just wasn’t enough (this could be just bc i never wanted to book to end)

Finn Hawthorne the man that you are 🥵🤤
This man brought her lunch every day! Every day. If (when) he did something to upset her, he proved how sorry he was through not only words but actions. Even though he was also someone who didn’t understand how difficult her job was in the beginning, he made time to learn and listen to everything she said. He truly loved learning more about her and her passion for her career. Their time at the fair then the picture from their picnic 🥹 PLS HE BOUGHT HER DREAM HOUSE JUST TO SHOW HER HE WAS SERIOUS ABOUT HER!!

““I’ll keep that in mind when I’m in the market for my second home. It’ll be something on a lake and very expensive. So you better start saving now.” She’s joking, but I’m not. If she’s asking, I’m buying.””
from ⬆️ to ⬇️
”“Finn,” I say slowly, realisation dawning on me. “Who am I designing this house for?” “For us,” he says simply. “I bought this place for us.””

More of Anise Starre’s Books Please!

This is the second book I’ve read from Anise and I enjoy her writing style. Bias coming from a fellow speaker of the Queen’s English. I know! I know, but there’s something pleasant about seeing words spelt in the way I’m used to. Eg. FavoUrite. Lol. I’m jesting, but NOT about enjoying Anise’s writing style.

The way she writes her characters to endear you to them and imbue them with life is so refreshing. These are not solely 2D characters. They have fights with families that are sometimes resolved by walking away and other times, never resolved at all. Which is reflective of real life. In as much as I love to immerse myself in the fantasy of romance, I understand that characters need to have some conflicts that will never be resolved within a few pages. It’s what makes them so relatable- and my gosh was Amber’s story so relatable.

Let’s talk about her a bit. She has a bloody awful boss who takes all the credit for her work. Typical. Her mother and her mother’s husband (this is how I will refer to anyone I don’t fancy from now on by the way- through their connection with the person I am close to; by choice or regrettably) are not supportive of her career path and life decisions and have never made her feel as though she has accomplished anything grand in her life. Even when others celebrate her, they are absolute horrid little people who just rather be miserable. I felt so vindicated on her behalf when she stood up to them during that house scene and didn’t look back after. I cheered her on. Had my pom-poms out and everything!!

Amber is hard working and actually passionate about what she does, which was communicated to us in the way she strolls through markets that houses/auctions antiques she’s interested in or think would elevate whatever project she was working on. She was a great friend (To Bailey who I also loved from the first book in the series). She was able to patiently wait out advancing up the career ladder (didn’t work out in the way she thought BUT she tried). Most important, she NEVER LOST HER SENSE OF SELF, GOALS AND IDEALS BECAUSE SHE FELL IN LOVE. So much so that even when Finn QUITE LITERALLY gave her her dream on a silver platter (silver lake, if you will) she held her breath waiting to see if he wanted her to drop everything to be with him. Whew! Can you tell I loved her? Honestly, I’ve probably said this so many reviews, and will continue, but I LOVE STRONG WOMEN MCs!!! Amber had grit, heart, compassion and was not afraid to stand up for herself and others. Interestingly, it was that last bit that made me deduct a star from my original 5 star review. I know, I know, but I’ll get to that after I talk about Finn and why he was such a fantastic book and real life book boyfriend.

Our first interaction with Finn gave us a glimpse into how much of a control freak he was. Being copied on emails that were beneath his station so that he was aware of everything, was absolute bollocks! Ok! Finn was drowning and he needed to be saved from himself BY himself- with guidance from those around him. I loved that Amber didn’t “fix” him, but gave him advice and left him to take it because she’s not his therapist. Even better was the fact that Finn RECOGNISED that he needed to change and wanted that for himself. To gradually changing. We love a man who is cognisant of his own deficits and addresses them.

Finn never forced himself into Amber’s personal space or tried to “superman” her. He allowed her to make the moves she needed. He LISTENED. He did little things that demonstrated he cared for her physical and mental health and I absolutely loved that. We were never told that he loved her. Anise showed us through her superb storytelling how he Finn felt about Amber. They are such an adorable couple. I love them.

Now, on to the removal of the star. That anniversary dinner scene. Tsk. Amber, I understand you wanted to defend your beau, but the relationship was still so new and this was your first meeting. You should not have. It gave “superwoman” a little bit and I hate that for my girl 😭 and the “villains” here felt very 2D. I hated how flat they were and while it didn’t ruin an otherwise brilliant story, it did put a bit of a dent in it. And if everyone in the family knew what was happening, why did no one step up? If clearly, that outburst was all it took for the situation to be rectified. Hated that, but the scene following that made me tear up and grinned like a fool. (I was getting my hair done and my stylist asked if I were alright). Finn you bloody romantic. I gasped and smiled and felt so warm inside. I love these two!!!

I enjoyed the epilogues and that nothing was rush. They took their time to get to where they needed to be and we believe in their love! We know they’ll be great!

Loved seeing more of Bailey and Cash and where their story led. Interesting in reading about Dane, please write his story, Anise. I will read it. This author is now definitely a buy without reading blurb for me!!!

Everything more or less felt rushed to me. This was supposedly within a span of 3 ish months and already he was buying a house, doing all this husbandly stuff for her. Like who does that, before making her your girlfriend? I felt like there was no real plot or substance to their relationship, no conflict to push them closer. Also towards the end, I felt like the writing was growing lazier because it was very much so time skip to the epilogue and have them be happily together and somehow maintaining a relationship where they fly across the world for each other every couple weeks.

Stuff like his uncle and their issues which was meant to add substance to Finn were mentioned a few times but then dropped for a really long time until the end where it seems like the author remembered to add personality to Finn.

Overall, Finn’s character just seemed to not have as much thought put into him despite being the main male lead whilst Amber had more effort put into her and their relationship was also really rushed and not well thought out.

Cute scene on Primrose Hill though.

First of all let me say thank you so much to Anise Starre for giving me an e-Arc of this book!!
One Last Job is about a designer named Amber and a managing director named Finn, working together on a particularly difficult job and learning about each other while they do it.

I loved the characters throughout this book. I felt that even though the book is mainly focused on the main couple, the side characters were really well-written and fleshed out. It wasn’t a little description of the side characters with no interaction, we see the main characters talk and interact with them and it actually adds a lot to the book, because we learn more about the main characters that way as well. I also felt that each character felt really realistic in terms of how they dealt with the problems in their lives and the ways it affected their work and relationships.

The plot of the book was so fun to read and stress over in the middle of the night! The romance in the story didn’t overshadow the working problems that they had to deal with in their work and it actually made me look forward to things going wrong so I could see how the main characters handled it and how they helped support one another. I really liked reading how the project they were working on came together and how this also coincided with their feelings for each other.

One thing I especially liked reading were the mental battles the MC went through while they were similar they were also really different and I think Starre did a beautiful job of bringing that out in the book!
I do feel like the ending was just a bit rushed but only because I wanted a little more closure for the FMC only because I think it was a little out of character for her to try not to contact her parents so she could see her sibling or at least visit, I also wanted to see a bit more of Finns side of work since we got to see so much of Ambers.

I LOVED the tenderness of the MC throughout the entire book, they were so gentle, cute, hot, sexy and amazing with each other!! It was so fun to read and literally had me kicking my feet and giggling.
Overall this book was really fun to read so it gets a 10/10 from me🥰

I had the absolute best time reading " one last job", to say the characters where some of the best I had the pleasure of reading, would be an understatement.

✨Finn, cute, sweet and blond ❤️ was the ultimate " Golden retriever sunshine" mix... I fell HARD, ( and you'll too, don't worry). the way he blushed, YESSSS, Normalize male main characters being disgustingly cute.
I love that he has eyes on him, he sees, notices and doesn't shy away from saying what's on his mind, especially when it comes to his girl. ❤️.

✨Amber, is my female animal spirit, I definitely aspire to be her, driven, ambitious and successful ( I got the " stubborn" part, alright).

- “ 𝓓𝓸 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓪 𝓽𝔂𝓹𝓮? ”
- “ 𝓑𝓮𝓪𝓾𝓽𝓲𝓯𝓾𝓵, 𝓹𝓪𝓼𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓽𝓮, 𝓼𝓽𝓾𝓫𝓫𝓸𝓻𝓷 𝔀𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓷 𝔀𝓱𝓸 𝓭𝓸𝓷’𝓽 𝓱𝓪𝓿𝓮 𝓪 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓮𝓶 𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓶𝓮 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝔂 𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓵𝓵𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓴 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓶𝓮.”

I was reading with a constant smile on my face, no not in a Rom-com kind of way, but as in I'm getting second hand swarm of butterflies from their interactions ✨✨✨. (, Cue in the pub scene 🍺, 🥵🥵🥵)

I love how Anise ( a POC Queen ) managed to portray Amber, the natural way. Just Beautiful ❤️

the tension was palpable , unmatched ( again, don't let the cartoon cover fool you, that's Anise's way of catfishing 🤭). But this was spicy with open-door scenes.

The way he calls her “ 𝓼𝔀𝓮𝓮𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽” I WAS IN CONSTANT MELTING STATE 🫠🫠

“ 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓴 𝓲𝓷 𝓱𝓲𝓼 𝓮𝔂𝓮𝓼 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓷 𝓱𝓮 𝓬𝓪𝓵𝓵𝓼 𝓶𝓮 𝓼𝔀𝓮𝓮𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽, 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓾𝓷𝓷𝔂 𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓽𝓵𝓮 𝓽𝓱𝓾𝓭 𝓶𝔂 𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽 𝓭𝓸𝓮𝓼 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂 𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓮 𝓱𝓮 𝓼𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓲𝓽 ” ( same girl)

I honestly felt like saying goodbye to my best friends after finishing this, especially with the epilogue including " Bailey and Cash "book1, one week in paradise, , main characters.
The nostalgia hit HARD.
Is it Early to be soo excited about book 3 already ???
I am , anyway. 🤭

THIS IS DEFINITELY A 5 ⭐♾️.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Honestly a 4.5 star read.

This honestly had all of the perfect tropes while still be original and a fun read. (never read a book with a nepo baby and that was just so fun😂)

Let’s start with Amber. It’s rare that I like FMCS truly but she was so enjoyable, driven, and real. I liked the realness of the workplace aspect and working with/ under people that undervalue you and how that can affect your home life and family relationships too.

Finn Hawthorne… my newest blondie boyfriend added to the roaster. That man feel so hard for Amber and it was so sweet to watch. Finn also had character growth that was parallel to Amber and trying to out how to prove himself but still acknowledging how he got to his position in the first place (Amber humbling him a little was chefs kiss)WE LOVE A MAN WITH MONEY THAT WANTS TO SPEND IT ON HIS GIRL. And baby Finn was FEENING to drop his dollars and euros on Amber.

I expected a bit more spice, but honestly the spicy scenes felt so intimate and realistic so I wasn’t even mad at it.

Ladies and gentlemen let’s all give a round of applause for no third act break up and healthy communication 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. If you know me miscommunication makes my blood boil so I was thrilled. Listen to me. The end of this book had me kicking and screaming but for the sake of not spoiling I won’t say. Just know it was honestly one of the cutest endings of all contemp. Romances I’ve read. Very “The Notebook” like 😏

I know this is a series of interconnected stand alone so loved the little Dante and Elliot crumbs we got but Anise if you want to give Nel a book I wouldn’t be upset 🫡.

I loved the authors first book and I love this one just as much!! Finn is the perfect book boyfriend wow, I love how he was always there for amber and hyped her up! He was so supportive and so was she for him! I loved the slow burn build up! The tension was there and when they finally got together it was just the cutest thing ever. I was kicking my feet, giggling, blushing all throughout this book. He paid attention to her, Amber was so powerful and knew her worth by the end of the book! The character development was amazing between both Finn and amber. I love that he called her sweetheart and always expressed his love for her. There was no doubt that he liked her and I loved that about him.

im in my hopeless romantic era again. Finn and Amber are the cutest. the way he always reassures her and compliments her ?? hellooo. i love how he was so determined to get her to know her worth bc she clearly is that girl. they match each other perfectly 🫶🏾.

“For us,” he says simply. “I bought this place for us.”

I add “seeing her blush” to my rapidly growing list of my favourite things about her. It sits right there between “the sound of her laugh” and “that look she gives me when I’ve annoyed her.”

im glad booktok didn’t disappointment me 🤭

Ooo I liked this. After reading Bailey and Cash’s story I was eagerly waiting Amber and Finn’s story and it didn’t disappoint. It was steamy and sweet and funny( could’ve use more humour in my humble opinion) but I genuinely enjoyed them as a couple. Finn was a confident sweetheart and very tenacious in his bid to win Amber’s heart. And Amber, my heart goes out to her with family struggles. Overall , an enjoyable read and I’m excited for the next book 😌🕺

Cute and easy read. From distant workmates, to enamored lovers, I am team Amber and Finn.

Amber was playing a little TOO hard to get for me, but it appears she was taking out the past trauma/resentment she had from “home” and work for years, on Finn from one moment. When both characters finally connected, you would’ve had to pry them apart. Cynthia, Ethan, AND Marion (yup, you too Auntie) needed to be put in their place!

Loved how each book in the series are synchronized with each other and on the same time line (at least for book 1 and 2). A phone call Bailey made in the first book is written in the same time as Amber picking up said call in the second book.

Getting an update on Bailey and Cash from book 1 was a sweet addition to the ending as well.

Beautifully written!

I really enjoyed this! I wasn’t sure at first because I’ve been in a weird reading mood but it caught my interest fairly quickly.

I loved the way Finn and Amber balanced each other out. She helped him calm down and manage his anxiety (and to delegate!) and he helped build her confidence and show her she deserves more from the people she surrounds herself with.

Despite the fact that I checked the reading order on goodreads this morning, I still managed to muck things up and read this one first so I spoiled the first book a little bit but I kind of already knew Bailey and Cash would have a HEA because they’re romance novels.

It wasn’t very spicy but that didn’t detract from the story at all. Overall this was a very sweet, workplace romance that I ended up devouring in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the others!

P.S. I wish there was a bonus scene involving a grown up Noah. I really hope that works out okay.

Thank you so much to Anise Starre for sending me this eARC to review. I enjoyed this story a lot and how everything played out. Having a FMC like Amber who’s passionate and knows what she wants is always super nice to read about, and Finn was obviously attractive and charming without being annoyingly arrogant or rude. I’m a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers and the pacing of this was perfect. She hated him for a while until he eventually weaselled his way into her heart. The smut wasn’t too overbearing either. Very steamy. Definitely check this book out when it’s released on July 7th!

This book did not disappoint, not even a little. The storyline, the plot the characters, the love story were all in sync with each other. Anise knows how to write a story! I fell in love with this book because it was so relatable and realistic, half of these romance novels lack that.

I really loved the characters personality especially their passion and drive for their careers and life plans. No one believed in both of them but they got their in the end which really hit home for me.
