There were no sirens or alarms to warn of impending doom. Nothing but a case of indigestion, followed by nausea. Then came the intense chest pains. An hour later, Monique Hall was dead, the victim of three successive cardiac arrests. But this was not to be the end of her road. Thanks to a fast-acting emergency room doctor and his team, Monique was yanked back from the brink of death. Fully aware of her circumstances but unable to communicate with those around her, she clawed her way back to the land of the living, and by sheer will pulled off an impossible recovery.
Reset is the first-person testimony of a miracle. It is also a cautionary tale that sheds light on how cardiac arrest strikes women differently, and how often it is overlooked by patients and medical professionals alike until it’s too late. In sharing her near-death experience and harrowing road to healing, the author documents what it was like to exist on the narrow boundary between life and death—and how faith in God and love of family enabled her to claim victory over certain death to share her inspiring true story of survival.
I am Monique's husband. This was the scariest event of my life. I took Monique to the hospital late on night after she was complaining about heart burn. Shortly after, she died in front of me and my son, her face contorted in pain before going limp. The medical team shouted code blue and rushed to her aid. I hurried my child out of the room to try to protect him from the situation, and to give the medical team the room they needed to work on my wife. She died three times that day. They managed to bring her back on the fourth with minimal heart function. Her organs were shutting down. The cardiologist asked me if I had instructions. The doctor told me there was a chance Monique would be severely brain damaged if she survived at all. I looked at my son and told the doctor to do whatever he could to save my wife. If there was a chance...
It's difficult for me even today to think about that event and what followed. I hope Monique's book helps others. This is why she wrote it in the first place. Life is precious. Don't take it for granted.
First let me say God bless the author when I first picked this book up the title caught my attention from the first page I was taken in about the story I was amazed how this lady went through some much I can say God had a hand on her he used her testimony of how much mercy and grace he had for her life. Reading this story help me shed some insights on heart disease and prepare me on the knowledge to do what's needed for my own health. I would just like to say to the author thank you for sharing you story and testimony and keep spread awareness especially to the black community where it's needed the most. This book and her story is a highly recommended for women men race cultures to help all understand the benefits of taking care of yourself and don't ignore symptoms take them serious. I'm happy she lived to tell her story of her highs and lows of the experience of her life and health and most of all her healing and recovery and again thank you.
I found this very emotional, not just because the author had three cardiac arrests, but because of her long journey to recovery, the impact on her family and her faith in God. The book outlines all of these in a sensitive and insightful way. The doctors and nurses are truly amazing, and it was humbling to read how they all worked tirelessly during the COVID pandemic of 2020. A very worthwhile read, including the dietary and nutrition elements at the end which many will find useful.
