A Book Lover's Guide to Fake Dating

Rate this book
All Herschel wanted was to prove to the love of his life that he could be more than just a "best friend."

All Jenna wanted was to live out her romance novel fantasies and try a fake date situation.

Too bad no matter how many plans you put into place and rules try to follow, real people just don't act like characters from a book.

So this is a debut and a fair one on top of that.
The writing was good. Especially for the fact that it’s a third person story, which I didn’t include in my rating because it’s a personal preference.

The story and idea was solid.
The people in it were ehhh.
I felt like none of these people actually liked eachother. Simply because I couldn’t feel the connection myself.
In my opinion, Jenna should’ve just kept her nose in her book an good is. The only issue I had with Jenna was, that she seemed to be a bit pick me in the beginning but I couldn’t see that later on anymore.
I also never thought that Hershel was a bad guy. Amanda sucks honestly.

The different POV‘s and different times were a bit much for my personal liking but it is important to understand all of it.

I guessed that Jenna fell for him immediately.
The story with Tess however was a bit surprising. Didn’t saw that coming.

It had cliches but it was an overall good and acceptable read.

This was a solid debut novel. The concept was a lot of fun, it was an easy read, and I genuinely enjoyed all of the characters.

I only had two issues with the book. The first was the multiple POV shifts within the same chapters, which made the story a bit confusing to follow at times. I would have preferred the author stick to a single POV per chapter and only switch perspectives at the start of a new chapter. That would have made the transitions much smoother and saved me from having to re-read sections to get my brain back on track.

My second issue was the number of grammatical errors, which seemed to become more frequent as the book went on. While I understand that's more of an editing issue than the author's fault, it did impact my overall reading experience.

What I absolutely loved was that I genuinely had no idea where the FMC's heart was. I kept wondering who she was going to choose and where her true feelings ultimately lay. No matter which direction the story went, the choice would have made sense to me, and I would have been happy with either outcome. I also appreciated that the ending was left just open ended enough to create opportunities for future books centered on some of the other characters. If the author decides to continue the series, I'll definitely be reading them.

This is just so cute!!

Herschel and Jenna decide to start fake dating to help get Amanda to see Herschel as boyfriend material. Jenna just wants to get out of her shell and meet some new people. The characters we are introduced to are so much fun and really make the story feel so much deeper than a traditional rom com. I really felt as though I was reading through the first season of a college based sitcom. I’ve heard there may be more books coming out about these characters and I can’t wait!

If you love fake dating and found family, this is absolutely the book for you!
