man oh man, what a book! and a debut at that. I never have full on sobbing sessions when reading, but I cried so hard for 20 minutes straight, my sister came to check on me. this book broke me and put me back together. the loss, pain, guilt, regret, sorrow - it was all so vividly raw you could feel it as you read. I was in pain, I laughed, I cried, I lovingly screamed at ginsa. i loved that donovan, kerry, and wyatt were in touch with their emotions and their bond was so sweet. audrey and her grandparents' relationship was achingly beautiful. noah reminded me of my own grandpa. The significance everything had! I will definitely be reading everything ginsa writes. thank you to her and truly yours pr for the arc. CHECK TW!

audrey winthrop has been donovan's dream girl since the beginning of high school.
the shy girl that loved to read books and live in her own little world had always taken rent free space in one of the most popular kids' mind since they were young. on the very last day of their high school career he finally decides to take his shot, whether something is going to happen or not, he wanted her to know that these feelings were at least there. that they existed and they were very much real on his behalf. as the night goes onto celebration, donovan and audrey are finally able to get their chance to be honest with each other and lay it all out. unfortunately for audrey, it seemed as if these feelings had been one-sided all along because after they spent the whole night together, donovan ghosted and never looked back.
fast-forward a few years, audrey has been wondering where she went wrong in life. she is stuck in a relationship where she is not appreciated or respected in any way; yet those blue eyes continuously haunt her and she keeps wondering what could have happened between them if they had ever been honest with each other truly. audrey is clearly not content with her life but has no power or strength to actually go back to the small town that holds her dearest memories, yet, something terrible happens within her family that obligates her to face her fears.
by going back, audrey's feelings are flooded with memories from the past; all the hurt, the trust that was lost but also the love that was felt, the one person she has been haunted by all these years is the one person helping her family move forward. and the one person who is willing to save her.
sweet cinnamon roll, donovan king, is the one person who has never been able to forget a minute spent with audrey winthrop and that never changed as they grew old.
following their story gives not only lighthearted hope, but also allows us to focus on healing, understanding the world around us and what makes us truly dreamers and lovers.
I really thought I would enjoy this book. The whole premise was very intriguing to me and I liked how it was trying to tackle the reality of domestic violence and abusive relationships.
However, I didn’t enjoy this book. From the very beginning the timing of it all and the foundation of the main couple’s relationship was just plain weird.
You’re telling me he was enticed by her the ENTIRETY of high school but did nothing about it until the night of graduation??? Where he then declares his love and says he wants to have the best summer ever with her, gets in her pants and then never contacts her again.
Fast forward 10ish years later and she returns to her hometown for her grandma’s funeral, runs into him and they act like they have all this history (one night) and that they’re supposed to be together?
And talk about cringy spice.. ew
Yuck. No. Huge ick. Many apologies but just not for me.

Ugh this hurts to write. This one started off so strong for me. In my bones, I was convinced that it was going to be a 5 star read. And then I hit the 50% mark and got bored. I typically like tension in books, which is probably why this one didn’t do it for me. Although it’s second chance romance, I was hoping for a little more angst. It felt too fairytale-esque too quickly for my tastes. Not to mention the fact that I started skimming past the smutty scenes because they became too repetitive. We get it, you’re so horny for each other because you’re so in love. The ending was also extremely predictable. I knew when everything was going too well that shit was going to hit the fan and it did exactly the way I expected it to. If you’re a fan of It Ends With Us and the Knockemout series, you’ll probably love this. It just wasn’t for me. However, I enjoyed Ginsa’s writing a lot and would definitely pick up another by her!
I was initially drawn to this book because of its promising premise and heavy topics it aimed to tackle, specifically domestic violence. The potential for a deeply moving and realistic narrative was there, but unfortunately, the execution fell short in several critical areas.
One of the main issues was the relationship dynamics between the main characters. They had a thing for each other for years but rarely interacted. When they finally do, they have sex the first night and then stop talking. When the FMC returns to town she acts as if they had a long history together, which felt force and unrealistic.
The cringe was cringing. The FMC is described as only having one friend who moved away, yet sexually, she was more advanced for being her first. During their first sexual encounter the MMC who is portrayed as being the most popular guy in school, is too nervous to put the condom on. The FMC then flawlessly puts it on for him and thanks sex ed. This scene was not only unrealistic but painfully awkward.
The portrayal of domestic violence was also a major flaw. Addressing such a serious issue requires sensitivity and accuracy, but the book handled it poorly. The FMC has been emotionally and physically abused for years, almost killed by her abuser, yet she seemingly gets over it in two weeks. While there are lingering mental affects mentioned, this rapid recovery is highly unrealistic and severely undermines the severity of the trauma.
Lastly, the dramatic shooting scene was simply not believable. The description of a bullet enter the MMC’s back, piercing straight through his heart, and existing out the chest, followed by his miraculous survival, defies logic. The author could have toned down the drama and made it more believable by saying the bullet almost pierced his heart.
In summary, the book has potential but was ultimately disappointing. The unrealistic character interactions, poorly handled description of domestic violence, implausible plot points, and the cringe factor made it a frustrating read.

This is one of my new fav small town romances, I can’t wait for the next one!!
PLEASE check your triggers 🤍
I went through every single emotion while reading this. I fell in love with these characters and their story. I really felt like I was apart of the family. One second I was swooning over the main characters and the next moment I was sobbing over their personal growth and all of the shit they were going through.
The writing was to die for. The details in Audrey’s journey will always make me emotional just because it’s so beautiful. I just wanted to give her a HUG. Every girl deserves a Donovan, the way he would do anything for his girl 😭
THE EPILOGUE??? I COULDNT STOP CRYING, it’s absolutely perfect, such an amazing ending.
side note: bitch I’m obsessed with Tia & I can’t wait for her story!
You know when you read a book and within the first few chapters, you already know it’s going to be a five star read? Well, Meet Me in the Vines was one of those books for me. I have no words about how exceptional this read was. From small town romance to angst and heartbreak, this book wrecked me in every possible way. I love the romance between Audrey and Donovan so much, but what really stood out was the layers of depth and emotion within the writing. There was just so much to glean from Audrey’s personal strength as well as how she slowly found comfort and trust in those around her. Her relationship with her grandpa and grandma had my heart in shambles and I just can’t think of a more beautiful story to describe her journey towards happiness.
There were many realistic elements in this book and I really appreciate how Ginsa doesn’t sugarcoat anything. I was in constant admiration of Audrey during my reading experience and I believe many victims and survivors of domestic abuse will also find courage and understanding within these pages. Audrey is an incredibly realistic and resilient character who represents the significance of perseverance even when all the odds may be against you. And Donovan 😩 I love that man with my whole heart. He loves so fiercely and wholeheartedly!! Witnessing his devotion to protecting Audrey emotionally and physically truly raised my standards in a different way. I also love that we got to learn about his family dynamics, especially with his brothers and how he dealt with loss too. Seeing him and Audrey share their grief and come together was everything and solidified one of the many reasons they are soulmates.
I cannot recommend this book enough!! It is one of my favorite reads of the year so far and encompassed so much more than I expected. The bonds, romance, family, small town romance, mystery, and more truly made this story perfect and inspiring. Everything wrapped up beautifully and I love that Audrey and Donovan found their way back to each other and their roots in Oakwood Valley (at the gazebo 😉). This has profoundly impacted me and I will be recommending it to everyone I know!!!
I am so excited for Tia and Logan’s book! I will be impatiently waiting for it 🥲 And hoping we get Wyatt and Kerry’s stories some day too 🥹🥹
read if you like: - small town romance - cinnamon roll mmc - found family - second chance romance - “it’s always been you” - dual POV
“I’m so sorry I didn’t fight harder for us. I meant everything I said that night. Everything I felt, everything we did? It was all real for me,” he murmurs, holding my hand against his cheek.
This book was completely different from the other small town books I’ve read. I went into this book thinking it would be a sweet small town romance, which it is, but it was also filled with suspense, twists & turns, and a second chance at love. This book was so beautifully written from the characters and storyline and packed with so much raw emotion, heart-wrenching, and heartwarming moments. I felt like an emotional mess throughout this book because I was not prepared to be crying so much. I was captivated and emotionally invested with Donovan & Audrey’s story.
My heart broke for both Audrey and Donovan for what they went through. They both deserve so much happiness and all the love. Due to a misunderstanding, it led to a heartbreaking break up between Donovan and Audrey back in high school. 10 years later Audrey visits her hometown and unexpectedly runs into her first love.
Audrey is so resilient and has the biggest heart and the sweetest soul. I was cheering her on from the very beginning hoping everything will work out for her. Despite many years apart, Donovan still loved her fiercely and never gave up on their relationship. This man was everything and I seriously swoon so hard for him.
I enjoyed this book so much despite crying too many times, but I loved every moment of it & cannot wait to see what’s next. I’m so proud of you and your accomplishment for writing this amazing debut novel.
What to expect: ❥ Small town ❥ Second chance ❥ Suspense ❥ Open door spice ❥ Cinnamon roll hero ❥ Abused heroine ❥ It's always been you ❥ Found family
This book had me hooked from the very start. I could not stop reading. I loved every second, I was bursting with happiness for Audrey and Donovan and then I was going through the motions of heartbreak. I got so connected to the characters this book had me crying and laughing right along with them.
I loved Audrey’s character as she was very realistic in the sense that you saw her endure abuse and how she reacted to it. It is not easy for people to endure what she did and overcome the hardships. I like that it openly talked about her getting help after all the trauma she went through. She was very easy to relate to. She was just a normal girl who grew up with bad circumstances but came out on top and it made her stronger.
I also loved Donovan’s character with his lovable charm that he has. I really appreciated his love and adoration that he has for his siblings and his parents. I love love loved his love for Audrey and how he just knew she was it for him from the start.
I loved the relationship between Audrey and Donovan and how in the end truly things are left up to fate. Things will work out how they are suppose to. The plot of the story was the perfect suspense with dual point of views so you loved both characters. It also had just the right amount of spice in all the right places.
I got so connected to this book I am so sad it is over now. I am so thankful for being selected to receive this book as an ARC by Ginsa, this is the first book I have read by her and I can truly say I will be reading more.
This is one of my best books that I have read in 2024. I definitely recommend this book as DEFINITELY 100%. Go get this book and read it.. I want you all not to miss this piece at all.💜💜

🪷The ocean blue eyes Donovan King, the superstar of college and apple pie of every party. 🪷A girl with Green serene eyes full of dreams, bold yet shy, Audrey Winthrop.
When I started the book it was like woah, romantic & so sweet & everything was going so good and amazing but the moment I stepped further, it hit me like a truck. This book will take you on a rollercoaster journey of emotions like love, hate, heartbreak, pain, abuse what not.
You will feel the perspective of both Donovan and Audrey was written so beautifully 🤌🏻 The way he was waiting for her and was willing to do anything to explain things to her.
Audrey was going through abuse, manipulation, & betrayal , broken to the bottom but still she kept her smile and never let anyone see her pain. But this man, he can see through her eyes and tell how broken and blank her eyes are.
There were some scenes that were engraved in my heart for that you have to READ THE BOOK 😭 OMG I cried so badly that I needed a complete minute to compose myself because I wasn't able to handle it.
There were some cute yet hot scenes as well, like the chase scene in the gazebo, the cute strawberry scene & wine crates. 🥵
The way the author has mentioned the sensitive and crucial points and she also mentioned what the FMC has gone through during her whole healing process. Those nightmares and all it still gives me goosebumps..
Donovan and Audrey were in love with each other before they even knew each other did in HS. A one night hookup after graduation, a promise to have the summer of their lives comes crashing down when Donovan is no where to be found and essentially ghosts her. Ten years later, living in NY, Audrey is forced to go back home after she gets word that her grandmother passed away. Not only is she forced with that grief but she sees Donovan again. Old feelings start to resurface and after Audrey leaves again, Donovan heads to NY to bring her back home. Except Donovan finds Audrey in a horrible situation. Weeks pass, and Donovan and Audrey start to become closer and things get clouded as she recuperates from her ordeal. But her life in NY doesn’t seem to want to stay away and it starts to become more and more unsafe. The demon from her past doesn’t like to give up and it forces Donovan to make the ultimate sacrifice to keep Audrey safe.
I really liked this one!! I loved the small town, HS sweethearts, touch her and die, cinnamon roll tropes of this so much! The suspense of this story was pretty good, and I really enjoyed the edge of your seat dynamic throughout the book! I would suggest looking at TW’s as it does cover some deeper topics (DV, grief, trauma, loss).
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I hurt, cringed(not bad in my mind), cried, laughed, and just all the feels. Audrey is a book worm and wasn’t very popular in school. Donovan was absolutely the golden boy. We start at their high school graduation. Donovan invites Audrey to the big party. They both are smitten; but as in Persuasion, sometimes you have to wait for your soulmate. They hadn’t seen or spoken for years since that party. When Audrey’s Gran passes, she must return home. It doesn’t take long before Donovan and Audrey find each other and all those feelings come burning back. Too bad there is unfinished business for graduation night. Not to mention, Audrey is in a relationship with someone else. She says her life is in New York. Donovan sees right through it though. She’s too reserved…and broken? Is the strong, sassy woman he loved still there? A swift knee to the groin might help him find her. 🤫 But healing takes time. Trigger warning: abusive relationship. Please be advised. Thanks to @authorginsamichelle and @trulyyours.pr for the opportunity to read the arc. SO excited for Logan and Tia to be next. Hoped for it through the entire book.
A second chance small-town romance entwined with grief from loss, trauma from domestic violence and forgiveness.
Donavan and Audrey both had crushes on each other in high school. Donavan’s family owns a vineyard and Audrey’s family were winemakers. He was the talk of the town and women pined over his attention, while she was the introverted bookworm that many never took the chance to get to know. After graduation, Donavan takes a chance and asks his crush, Audrey, to attend his graduation party. She is smitten, yet nervous, but shows up anyways. The two spend the entire evening together and their love story starts in a vintage white gazebo with the inscription meet me in the vines on it. After sharing one night together, Audrey never hears from Donavan again, though he promised her a summer together. She takes off to New York for school and leaves Oak Valley behind.
Unfortunately for Audrey, New York was no longer what it was meant to be, and she’s complacent in an abusive relationship with Kellan. She gets word from her grandfather that her grandmother has passed, and returns to Oak Valley for the first time in 10 years to attend her funeral. There, she reconnects with Donavan, but she’s still haunted by his decision to ghost her all those years ago. All Audrey knows is she must return to her life in New York. When she gets back to New York, she runs into an unsuspecting person from her past who shares with her the truth of why Donavan ghosted her all those years ago. With the truth set free, and the attraction to Donavan still lingering there—Audrey must decide how to navigate her feelings for Donavan while placating Kellan.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I thought Donavan and Audrey’s reunion needed better fleshing out. They went from 0 to 100 pretty quick, it was like an F1 race back into each other’s worlds. The story was sweet, while heavy at times, but overall made for a good read.
Thank you, Ginsa, and Yours Truly PR, for providing an ARC copy for me to review.
Ginsa Michelle's debut novel, "Meet Me in the Vines," is a captivating read. Ginsa is genuinely one of the sweetest and most down to Earth humans I've ever encountered.
"Meet Me in the Vines" stands out as one of the most engaging romance novels I've EVER come across. Because it covers some very sensitive topics, it's advisable to read the warnings before to ensure you can handle it.
With 36 chapters, "MMITV" takes you on an emotional rollercoaster journey, touching on teenage love to heartbreak to domestic violence to family conflicts to family love to suspense and to the profound connection of soulmates. Despite addressing challenging themes, Ginsa handles them flawlessly. The story just flows so effortlessly. The story being told is so compelling that you might find it hard to put the book down (I finished it in about 6 hours!). While reading, I can guarantee that you will feel hurt, anger, sorrow, joy, love, and hope!
I would also like to add that I sobbed like a baby through the epilogue.
Discovering this book and author has been such a great addition to my reading journey. I am looking forward to reading the remaining of the Oakwood Valley series and any future works by Ginsa.
I was not entirely sure what to expect going into this book, but let me tell you— I adored it! Ginsa’s writing is phenomenal and I’m glad that I finally picked this one up!
This book has some heavy themes but they are written with such grace. It is emotional, suspenseful, beautiful, and SPICY. 😮💨
The epitome of a second chance romance— Audrey & Donovan are literal soulmates and their story back to each other after 10 years is amazing and everything you could want in a romance book.
Now I am even more excited for Meet Me in the Valley— Logan & Tia’s book 😍
What to expect: Second chance Small town Possessive ex It’s always been you Broken heroine SPICE
So I bawled like a baby while reading this. Like oh my god the water works just didn’t stop and honestly if I’m an emotional mess when reading a book, to me that means it was good.
Audrey and Donovan are perfect. And I love them so much. Everything in this book to give them a second chance at the love they deserve was phenomenal.
Thank you Ginsa Michelle and Truly Yours PR for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I loved it so much and I will be reading the rest of this series as they come out.
ARC Review: Absolutely amazing read. Would give it 6 stars if I could. In my top reads of the year. Reading it, I thought I knew where it was going and what was going to happen and boy was I wrong. I was stunned speechless. Loved every minute of reading this book and cannot wait for the next one. My heart aches and my brain is still trying to process and catch up. Ginsa really knocked it out of the park with this one.
ugh i’m forever rooting for audrey + donovan! their story was a whole rollercoaster of emotions and i was surprised at every turn. ginsa michelle created such deep and complex characters that was so easy to love and relate to! what we got was more than romance; there was suspense, drama, pain, heartbreak. def a must read for all lovers of second chance romance, found family, and small town vibes! mmitv was such an enjoyable read that i finished in one day. ps, i’m still thinking about the open door spice.
ty @trulyyours.pr and @ginsamichelleauthor for the arc!
• Small-town romance • Second chances • "It's always been you" • Nail-biting suspense • Open door romance (spice!) • Cinnamon roll MMC • Spiritual elements /connections • Strong heroines who have been through hell and back • Found family • Dual POV
Trigger Warning: This book tackles heavy themes like domestic violence (sexual, physical, and mental), gun violence, PTSD, and the pain of loss and grief.
“Meet Me in the Vines” is more than a story; it's a reality for many. On average, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced similar experiences to Audrey's in their lifetime.
With a book like this, its hard to believe that it is Ginsa’s debut novel — Audrey and Donovan’s story is written with such grace and impact, and in such a beautiful way. Audrey's struggles and strength are so vividly portrayed and while the topics are heavy, the story is balanced with heartwarming dynamics, banter, chemistry, and spice. From start to finish, I was hooked and on the edge of my seat! The characters felt like old friends, and I was emotionally moved throughout. I actually got goosebumps (which never happens!), and the ending... the ending is perfection.
"Meet Me in the Vines" has become one of my all-time favorite reads and will have a permanent spot on my bookshelf! I'm so excited for the Oakwood Valley Series to continue with Tia & Logan!
A huge thank you to Ginsa for allowing me to read this book early, and for writing a story that sheds light on important but often taboo, and avoided topics.

This book is the Debut novel for Ginsa and it’s a sweet small town romance second chance. The writing is well done for the authors first book and I loved the descriptions of the characters and locations allowed me to really see in my mind the story.
Donovan and Audrey’s story is one full of love but also sadness. These two start as high school loves, but quickly outside forces tear these twos story apart. Tragedy brings these twos worlds back together, blurring those lines of why they couldn’t be together before. Donovan’s possessive need for Audrey and determination to catch her attention may just prove to kick down Audrey’s walls she has built all these years. Audrey’s don’t give a shit attitude with Donovan just fills his need to catch his little mouse even more. These two and their banter is just too good! The stuff Audrey says *mic drop* !
There are some heavy triggers in this book. Some DV violence and relationship abuse. Please look at these before you read if these are issues for you. The author did a tasteful job to expressing these issues and understanding for their part in these characters lives. It’s a hard subject to write about and I feel it was very well done.
The spice in this book is mild. Enough to fall in love with these two but nothing over the top or demanding of the story.
I have to admit, when I saw this cover I thought I’d be reading a cute little romance book. I was surprised in the best possible way. I wasn’t expecting to be crying 20% in but this book is so good. There’s also a lot spice mixed in that is 🥵. This is a small town, second chance romance that follows Audrey and Donovan as they make their way back to each other after 10 years apart. There’s heartbreak, suspense, and twists I didn’t see coming. There are some difficult themes mentioned so definitely check the trigger warnings, but Ginsa handled them so flawlessly. I can’t wait to read Logan and Tia’s story next! Tropes: 🍇Second chance romance 🍇Small town romance 🍇It’s always been you 🍇Possessive ex 🍇Broken heroine 🍇Open door spice Thank you Truly Yours PR & Ginsa Michelle for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I went into this book thinking it would be just a soft, small town romance. Boy, was it that and so much more! Donovan and Audrey know what they want from the beginning and the journey getting there was heartbreaking and full of twists and turns. This story takes you through Audrey and Donovan’s perspective of their relationship and how difficult circumstances can make you stronger and bring you together. I wanted more from the two of them and I’m looking forward to seeing peeks of them in the next book from talented Ginsa Michelle!
🌶️ 🌶️🌶️ (wine crates iykyk 😉) ✨second chance ✨small town ✨suspense ✨cinnamon roll hero ✨broken heroine ✨it's always been you
ARC- I received a free copy in exchange for a review.
I absolutely loved this romantic suspense. I am now in a book slump after reading this one. I loved the characters so much and the story was amazing. The aspect of the second chance romance was perfect! I was on an emotional roller coaster the whole way through this book. I cried a few times and I also got really mad. I laughed a lot throughout this book too. I love when a book brings out all the emotions and feelings, which is exactly what happened. I love the main characters and their relationship. The family in the story is hilarious. I loved it so much!! Check TW warnings first, there is DV.
I absolutely loved this novel. Going into it I thought it was going to be a typical small town trope but my god it turned into something completely different. I fell in love with Audrey and Donovan but also fell in love with every character that lived in Oakwood valley. It makes me incredibly sad I can’t visit this town and have a glass of wine with all of them in person. I wasn’t prepared to cry as much as I did and most of all I was not prepared for the spice!!! 5/5 for spice. If you are looking for your next summer modern romance novel, read this and you will not be disappointed.
🤔So this book wasn't what I expected, now, for a debut novel, this was a solid one and easy to read. I actually did enjoy the first half of this book, there are some heartbreaking moments from the grief and fun swoon-worthy moments from their reunion. It was fine and all, but then I realized after they got together I was just at 50%, what else is there? So I'm one of those people who will lose interest after the couple professes their undying love, 𝗠𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬. Furthermore, I already guessed what was going to happen in the second half, and it was like watching a train wreck that I could not look away. Overall the book just feels very heavy and depressing, but it doesn’t feel genuine to a healing victim. It’s also way too long, could’ve been 50-100 pages shorter by trimming the smut, cause in my opinion it was too much and didn’t fit with Audrey’s condition as a DV victim. I like to think that sexual activity will be hard after being abused sexually for years, so the fact that she seduced Donovan flabbergasted me.
🕺Donovan as the MMC is a complete cinnamon roll, on paper, he is the perfect man. But that’s the double-edged sword because I feel like he’s a mythical being, way too perfect. Also, I always had an issue with the “It’s Always Been You” trope, so he’s been pining for her but he can't be with her for kinda good reason (the whole thing was swept off under the rug, it was bizarre), but never tried to reach out for her after he was able to fix the issue. So if she never returns to her hometown, what happened then?
💃🏻Audrey is a confusing character for me, let me begin by stating I am not a DV victim, so my opinion is from a person who is privileged enough to never suffer from that. She was in an abusive relationship for a few years, and in her thoughts, she said she loved her abuser, I don’t know if she was in denial, it was never explained. But when she met Donovan again, she was just so ready to hook up with him (mind you she was still with her boyfriend at the time). From what I know, most DV victims were not able to cut the vicious cycle because they were trapped with financial security, but this wasn’t the case for Audrey, she could always go back to her hometown, cause her grandparents did well enough.
💭Lastly, they just had ONS and had very little interaction during school, but they can't move on and still love each other after 10 years? It would have worked better if they were an actual high school sweetheart.
❓The Bodyguard, is he an important character? He was written as if he mattered more, but then poof, never heard from him again.
Ginsa Michelle’s debut novel, *Meet Me In THe Vines*, is an exploration of love, heartache, and redemption. At the heart of the story is the journey of Audrey and Donovan, whose paths diverge in the wake of a heart-wrenching misunderstanding, only to converge once more a decade later under dramatically different circumstances.
Audrey, the FMC, offers her heart and innocence to Donovan on the night of their graduation, believing it to be the beginning of a lasting romance. However, the next day, she is met with crushing disappointment when he stands her up without explanation. Devastated, Audrey leaves for college, carrying the scars of that night into adulthood. Ginsa does an excellent job of portraying Audrey’s vulnerability and the lasting impact of her heartbreak.
Fast forward ten years, and Audrey is a different woman, yet still haunted by the past and trapped in the remnants of an abusive relationship. Her strength and vulnerability are evident as she navigates the complexities of moving forward. Meanwhile, Donovan is tormented by guilt and anger over his actions years ago. His character shows a man who has been grappling with his own demons and the weight of his decisions.
Their unexpected reunion ignites old feelings and unresolved tensions. Donovan is determined to win Audrey back and explain the reason behind his inexplicable behavior all those years ago. Their rekindled relationship is both tender and fraught with the realistic challenges of rebuilding trust and facing the past.
The book reaches a turning point when Donovan is shot during a confrontation, a moment that brings all the emotional turmoil to a head. This critical scene is beautifully written, capturing the raw emotions and the deep connection between Audrey, Jake and his family. I wish he would have tried to tell his family and Audrey about his experience during that time, I think they would have believed him!
This book is compelling and emotional. It will live rent free in my head long after the final page. Themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the enduring power of love are woven seamlessly throughout the story. Audrey and Donovan's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of love. This book is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and anyone who believes in second chances. I hope that Tia, Logan, Kerry, and Wyatt all get a story:-)

Ouch. This book hurt. This was a wonderful debut novel from Ginsa Michelle. It definitely gives you the feels.
Things I liked: - Donovan was a great MMC. He clearly held a candle for Audrey during the 10 years they were apart and, from what I could gather, didn't go around trying to "get her out of his system" as many MMCs in second chance tropes do. It was refreshing to read this trope and have the MMC hold onto the FMC during their time apart. - Pop made me giggle several times..."One time, she and I were going at it in the back of..." just made me lose it. - The plot! I feel like some of the books I've read lately have lost me on the plot and it was so refreshing to have a book that kept me engaged. - I really loved Tia and Audrey's friendship. I think the truest of friends are those that can go ages without connecting and, when they do get together, it's like they never missed a beat. I think those types of friendships rock and clearly that's the love Tia and Audrey have for one another. - Donovan's relationship with his brothers gave me heart eyes. I'm part of a super close-knit family (although our love language is heavy sarcasm and dry humor lol) and I love reading about other families that have tight friendships beyond simply being family.
Things I disliked or missed the mark: - I like smut. Smut is great and I have nothing against a book that heavily features smut. That being said, there were several instances where Audrey and Donovan are referenced as having "made love too many times to count" in the course of one night. A night or two of all-night or -day crazy passion I can get behind but it just felt referenced so many times that it made it stand out to me and seemed a little unbelievable. Either that or Donovan has a non-existent refractory period! - The result of the gun violence was…a lot? I’m trying to avoid spoilers but the physical trauma that happened after the gun went off seemed like too much to come back from. Miracles happen but this was nearly unbelievable. - Chapter 33. Did it make me cry like a blubbering baby? Yes. Did it feel just a *liiittle* cheesy? Also yes. - Kellan. Not a book problem. Just hate him. Thought you ought to know.
Overall, I definitely recommend giving this story a read. For a debut novel, this was great. A lot of times I feel like debut novels have a little bit of clunkiness or problems with pacing that I don't think were overly present in this debut. I'll certainly read the rest of this series as Ginsa releases more installments.
ALSO! I have to give a shoutout for the B*Witched reference in Chapter 25. It made 1998-1999 Disney Channel lovin' Me just squeal in delight and I immediately went to watch the music video for C'est la Vie. *Happy sigh*
I LOVEEEEE MEET ME IN THE VINES!!! I sobbed my eyes out for an HOUR and still want to keep crying. I had so many emotions reading this book. I was giddy, smiling, laughing, and so touched by the family dynamics. Donovan and his brothers are my new favorite people and I really really REALLY hope that Wyatt gets a book at some point!! Audrey’s relationship with her grandparents was so sweet and I wish there had been even more scenes with them. It was really sad to read everything that was happening 10yrs later and the distance between certain characters really gave me so many conflicting thoughts and emotions.
Audrey is a victim of DV and I was absolutely disgusted on numerous occasions by Kellan. I HATE HIM!! I don’t usually read books with DV and feel awful thinking this but I actually wish there had been even more scenes with Kellan and Audrey. We get the last little bit of their relationship but I think it would’ve been really interesting to have gotten an even deeper look at them. I felt like I was reading a thriller and again, I feel bad saying this but it was exciting to read at the same time. I find the psychology of why women stay with horrible men so fascinating and felt like the author did give us an accurate depiction. I just wanted even more!
I wish things with Donovan and Audrey’s history has been cleared up more. Whenever Donovan would try to explain what happened in the past, he would never really actually explain. But I’m obsessed with Donovan and Audrey. Pet names like baby usually drive me insane but this book made me love every second of it. I loved his little notes and how close he was to her grandparents. I absolutely loved Audrey’s dream that she wanted to pursue and it broke my heart when she was talking about it because you could see how Kellan destroyed her. I was rooting for her so much.
And that last 20% of reading that had me sobbing… I feel like I’ll never recover. I could picture it all as a movie and see myself sitting in a movie theater getting absolutely destroyed.
Thank you to Ginsa Michelle and Truly Yours PR for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
