Shifters of Sherwood #2

Princess of Thieves

Rate this book
Abandoned. Betrayed. Hunted. My life shattered in a single night, leaving me with nothing but a target on my back.

Deep within the heart of the wilderness, I found safety in the arms of unexpected allies—until I was ripped away once again.

I’m no damsel in distress, but I’m not sure I can survive without them.

The four men who captured me. The notorious outlaws of Sherwood County. The shifters who saved me once and will stop at nothing to save me again.

Or so I hope.

Because now I’m part of their mission. Corruption has an ugly way of turning dangerous around here, and the only way to fix the broken system is to defy its unjust laws.

And if I make it out of here alive, I’ll stop at nothing to uncover the truth alongside them. Even if it means confronting the the darkness that lurks within us all.

I liked the first book enough to wait I patiently for this one to come out.....spoilers.

I am not sure why I disliked this one as much as I did but it just fell flat for me. The main character continues to be weak and let men in her life make decisions and goes along to get along. She spends the first 20 percent of this book with a man we never really get to know and he just buys her pretty things and feeds her and she is just content to wait it all out until she can figure out a plan. I get on some level that practicality but relying on anyone but herself with barely any resourcefulness was fine for book one, but in book two we need some growth.

Speaking of her lack of self determination or huge level of naivety. She breaks the law to help people with their taxes and rather than ask for advice from the people she lives with who do it for a living she just goes rogue and does it and it leads to robs arrest. Like if it isn't the consequences of my own actions.....

I also feel like we never get connection. Sex yes, we get that. But nothing else with these guys. Even the fun game nights end in sex. Large display of power-sex after. Reuniting with everyone-sex. I mean I am always down but I want to care about these characters and that is one issue with this not being dual POVs. We don't get to know anyone else but Maren and as a whole she sucks.

Also, why does the cliffhanger need to be Rob being shot again. She did it herself last time and now he's shot by the sheriff.

Honestly I feel bad because this started off with promise but I don't think I'll be chomping at the bit for book 3. I think if Maren had more growth through this one, or if the plot moved I would've moved onto the next one but not enough happened for me to be engaged.

The retelling continues…

244 pages of a Robin Hood retelling with a why choose spin, kidnap, escape, resourceful FMC, 4 shifting MMC’s, power control, high in spice, lots of grovelling, tension, corruption, helping others, falling hard and time running out!

Oh, how I love this series!! I’m a massive fan of all things Robin Hood & this retelling from Jade R. Evans is just *chefs 💋. Book 2 continues the story with Marian in the clutches of a mysterious & somewhat sinister man. The writing is wonderfully descriptive & I love how we learn a little more about the characters. The dynamic between the FMC & her 4 loves is on point & they have the sweetest nicknames for her while helping to navigate her new found abilities (I will always have a soft spot for the sly fox, Rob! 🤭).

Cannot wait for book 3!! Highly recommend this series!

Princess of Thieves picks up right where Captive of Outlaws left off.

Our FMC is left at a crossroads when she is picked up on the side of the road only to be taken to his estate in the woods where he spoils her. It was kind of hard to figure out who this guy was, what he was all about and what his end goal really was.

Princess of Thieves keeps you entertained but I'm still a little confused as to why Rob was shot yet again. Looking forward to the next installment in the series nonetheless.

Can't decide

I read the first book and was very excited for this one to come out.

It is beautifully written and I cannot decide if second surpasses the first but it's certainly close.

Loved it now hurry up and give me book 3

Im actually so pissed about Maren. She says she’s been in the car workshop and dealing with the misogynistic type of men basically her whole life. She also claims to despise the country club type cause they’re nasty, sexist and corrupt. She lives in the worser part of the house with flourescent lighting. Hey ”uncle” burned her with atleast one cigarette or cigarr and from their interactions she is a bit afraid of him. But she can’t see that the passion she has for the outlaws are real even tho she craves them? Guy chased her in her car that night and almost made her drive of a cliff. He kidnaps her, smashes her phone in front of her, makes the made a guard, locks the windows so she can’t escape. He decides that pink is her color even tho it clearly isn’t and tho she feels pretty in her dress she doesn’t feel like her… and she gets flushed and wonders why she’s letting him charm her when she swears and he says I’m gonna pretend I didn’t hear that foul language come from her pretty mouth? In what world is that charming? Didn’t she work with cars and knows how guys talk? How is she so fucking naive with all her experience? It makes no sense. I’m only 15% in this book and I’m close to DNFing it cause I can’t with this fmc. And how the hell do you pronounce Maren? Maaren? Maareen? Marren?

I loved this book. You only get bits and pieces of who Guy is, but I think there's a reason for this. Everything is going to hit the fan in book 3 and all the questions you have will be answered. (My opinion anyway) Maren was determined to get to her money so she didn't have to rely on anyone else, so she broke into Guys office and sent an email requesting the information from his actual email account... as if it were him asking. These other reviews stating how she just let guys take care of her and never tried to grow and do things on her own, makes me feel like they didn't really read the book. The whole purpose of this book was her trying to get her inheritance so she wasn't dependent on anyone and could do what she wanted to do. The guys of course still love her and try to make up for what happened in book 1. I also loved we are getting into trying to figure out Maren's powers. Yes the ending sucked, but considering this is a trilogy we already knew it would end on a cliffhanger. I'm super excited to get all the secrets out in the open in book 3!

I really wish I could say I loved this book as much as the first. The writing itself was great but the story arc and lack of character development was sorely lacking.

The guys, especially Rob, we supposed to be earning Marrens trust back due to what she learned at the end of book 1 but I never saw anything that showed them actually trying to do that. There were a couple of apologies and a couple of bonding scenes but not enough that she should have been jumping back in to bed with all of them.

The whole Guy section at the beginning of the book left me scratching my head. I'm sure by book 3 it'll make more sense but I'm not sure how he thought kidnapping Marren would help his political goals at all. You would think he would know that the risks outweigh the benefits, especially when he's trying to become the DA.

Hopefully more is explained in book 3 then in 2 and things start making sense. I'm still interested enough to see where we might end up so I'll keep reading through the next book/books.

Let's talk Princess of Thieves!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4 🌶🌶🌶🌶 (3+ smexy scenes, explicit)

Tropes: Reverse Harem, Shifters, Robin-Hood Reimagined

I had the best time reading this! You can definitely tell it's a Robin Hood retelling, but the shifters element add that extra fantasy layer. To me, this one has middle story vibes: it's there to fill some of the gaps, and we got a new character (Zayne, who I'm still unsure about). You can tell this is leading up to the 3rd book. There was definitely sex, but not much growth with the characters. Without spoiling too much, Guy is the bad guy who doesn't think he's the bad guy, so I have high hopes for him. Hopefully, we'll learn more about him, as we didn't get much in the way of background. I would have liked to get a little more information about shifting in this book to help build the lore. Maybe we'll get some in book 3? Will Maren get the ability to shift? Questions abound. Can't wait for the next book.

This is driving me crazy. It's not Rob's fault that Maren's dad did drugs. Making him apologize for her father's actions is freaking weird. I just never understood blaming dealers when the problem is societal and usually trauma-related (or other untreated mental health issues). Simply doing drugs does not cause addiction. That isn't how it works at all, so blaming anyone other than your own actions and the actual cause makes zero sense. If it wasn't drugs, it could have been gambling, overeating, sex, or any number of other unhealthy vices you can become addicted to. As long as that root problem exists, you are at risk and likely desperately trying to find ways to cope in conscious/subconscious ways.
It especially bugs me because going down to your local ABC and blaming the person at the cash register for someone drinking and driving would look crazy.

I was really enjoying the book until this point. Yes, Rob absolutely has amends to make, but this was over the top.

I had such super high hopes for this book after I loved book 1! The chemistry was building in book one and the magical component and heist were so fun and intriguing.

This book fell flat for me. The character development between Maren and the guys wasn’t there, and her time with Guy felt so strange? It felt weird and unnecessary. So much of this book felt repetitive from the first book. Even down to Guy’s house being somewhat similar. Her chemistry with the guys felt weird and not organic. I was also hoping for more romance and relationship building with each individual guy.

I will definitely be reading book 3 when it comes out and have fingers crossed it’ll be just as great as book 1!

Jade Evans' Princess of Thieves is the second book in the Shifters of Sherwood series. The story started slowly, and in the beginning, I found myself aggravated with Maren and some of her decisions. Things pick up after she connects with the guys again. I love that she stood up for herself, and the guys realize they have some groveling to do. Lj was the most surprising in how protective he was of her, even against the guys.

Eventually, things got really interesting with the peek into Rob's past and the introduction of new characters. I enjoyed the twists, they were totally unexpected. Everything was building up to one chaotic ending and a very dramatic cliffhanger. Overall I enjoyed the story, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop in Queen of Rebels.

I really liked the first book but this one was just a bit off...? She ran away from the mmcs because they were kinda planning to 'lock her up' but maybe not really but then she gets picked up by this weird creepy guy, he locks her up and breaks her phone and she's just... okay with it? Like, girl? Why?! Als,o she just kept losing her words, always asking "What?" instead of saying anything of value. Use your brain? I don't know. I liked her well enough in the first book but in this second book, she was just a complacent, kinda brainless, annoying character. She better wisen up a bit in the next book otherwise I'm not gonna be able to make it through to the last book and that would suck. Cause the first book had so much potential.

This book picks up right after Maren gets picked up off the side of the road by Guy, and surprise surprise he isn't a good guy like he claims and thinks he is. He thinks he saved Maren from both her Uncle, and the guys, and is on a high horse. He says he wants to change Sherwood, and is running for the District Attorney seat, but if we know anything about Sherwood officials, we know they are not all that they seem.

The guys were able to save Maren during the 4th of July party, but I hated how quickly she folded and forgave them. They did grovel VERY well, looking at you Rob, but I would have wanted more groveling before folding.

This book ends on another brutal cliffhanger, but I am ready for the next book, and can't wait to see how it all ends!

I really wanted to love this one. Book one was great, and I was ready to learn more and have the story progress. The first part of the book Maren was stuck with a guy that we didn’t get much information on. Just that he had some connection to the shifters by being the hunter. The guys continue to be the same it was a bit of a repeat of book 1. The book was well written with a good flow, but it was just them being intimate with someone after them. This would have been a 5-star read if the author would have provided information to the shifters and their history and how they came about. I will still read book 3 to see if we will finally get the back story and not just a chase and lots s3x.

I have waited so patiently for this book after the hefty cliffhanger from book one!

And let me tell you..
It did NOT disappoint 😮‍💨

Maren really annoyed me the first few chapters to be honest but then she seemed to remember who the heck she is and got herself back to where she belongs!

The boys work to fix their relationship with their girl.
Maren’s really coming into herself in this book!

Questions remain though..

Can Maren and her men concur the shiz Jade has pathed out for them?

What will be of Rob now that the bigger seemingly badder fox has him?

Can Maren get Rob back and overthrow 💩tang Guy?

I can’t wait for book three Jade! So excited 🥹😍

3.5 star rounded up 🌶️

I LOVED book 1 but book 2 just wasn’t doing it as much for me. I took breaks between it was still decent but it was also boring at times. I wished for more with our FMC finding herself and being more of her own hero than having men save her…

Wish there was more spicy scenes (I said it 🤣🙌) they are enjoyable but sometimes confusing like the last of the group sex scenes I wasn’t even sure how that worked it ended so quickly LOL.

I’ll wait a bit and then on to book 3 🫶

At first I thought that maybe Guy would be a good guy, but that’s not the case. He was using her and for some reason knows about and hates shifters. She runs and ends up leaving with LJ. The guys apologize even Rob, and she decides to stay at least for now. She gets access to her money and it’s over two million. Her and all the guys get closer. An old friend of Rob’s shows up, he is a deputy named Zayn and he is on their side. She gives money to people to pay their taxes and it ends up getting blamed on Rob, he is arrested. He shifts to escape and gets shot, the rest of them run. Maren is not a shifter but has some sort of healing power.

Even though the first book had a lot of errors and inconsistencies this book was just slightly better. There are still a ton of problems and errors. I really wanted to like this more but sadly it fell flat. I feel like there wasn't enough groveling. Everyone was too forgiving and I don't understand why she can't run away. I mean a ton of people get by without a license. Just hop on a bus and go somewhere, work under the table as a mechanic somewhere. She had options but she always seemed to mess everything up. Then the guys never seemed to take anything seriously and didn't really know how to hide things. I am on the fence as to if I want to read the second book.

Straight out of the frying pan with the ending of the first book and into the fire that is Guy Gisburne. I love Robin Hood retellings so I am here for this in spades. Without doing anything in particular, Guy was really creepy. I could feel goosebumps and not in a good way! Maren, for the first time, gets to choose where she wants to go and who she wants to be with, whilst also learning more about her powers and what they can do. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean she gets the ending she wants and sometimes all you can do is run.
I totally loved this and can’t wait for the next one.

The second in the series, I loved seeing where the story took Maren and her men - Rob, Will, Tuck and LJ. And another cliffhanger…. I need the next one stat!
I felt the banter between the MCs wasn’t quite up to the first book, and was expecting more sass as their relationships built.
I loved Maren finally figuring out how to start unlocking her powers, but I hope she becomes the powerful, bada$$ FMC she’s meant to be in the final tale.
And as for the spice… it’s building nicely. More, more, more!

When Maren finds herself saved by the unlikely da guy she doesn't understand what's going on all she knows is he seems to want to keep her but she can't get the boys out of her mind but this may be a opportunity to get her birth certificate now that her uncle has been arrested and get her life back on track once she gets her money but little does she know that guy is keeping secrets of what he really wants her for and he seems to know about shifters.
What follows is a fight to get herself away and to try and get her life back but will she forgive the boys for lying to her.

Talk about a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see where Maren goes from here. She found the men of her dreams, just to have them ripped away and then distrust instilled in her by a friend. Only for said friend to turn her world upside down. But then she gets her men back again and everything is falling into place, only to have the rug ripped out from underneath her again. What will they do now? Maren, Will, LJ, Tuck and Zayn are going to have to band together hopefully to save Rob from Guy's clutches.

I really enjoyed this book, starting where we left off with her being with the strange man who got her away from the sheriff. Finding her way back to her guys, together they try to figure out the next move. That cliffhanger though, I need the third book asap. I am enjoying the character development with the guys, especially LJ. I really like how protective he is with Maren. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Holy hell, what a book two!!
I love a retelling and this is one of the best I've found.
Maren is a brilliant FMC - she's proud, passionate, and has a great deal of confidence that exudes through excellent character development and the four men are just delicious!!! LJ is a personal favourite (I do have a soft spot for a bearded man!)
The last chapter had me gasping with both shock and horror at yet another cliffhanger! Cannot wait for Book 3!!

This definitely needs another edit but it’s a fun story regardless. We get a bit more information about Maren and Rob’s past and I fully enjoyed the relationship growth between her and LJ. There’s definitely some missing pieces and a lot of jumping around but the vibes are good. A bit more spice but it’s pretty tame in my opinion for a RH book. I don’t understand the point of this ending but maybe we will get some answers in the next book- definitely going to continue this series.

Had to dnf at ~60% after that lame apology from Rob, bc ya sure maybe you were a kid when you were ruining other peoples lives with drugs but what about now? They didn't even address the fact that he hid this from her and then slept with her. Idk about you but sleeping with the man who played a part in killing your dad AND mom is icky and then of course the very next sequence of events is her messing around with them. The characters also fell very flat. 2.3/5

A stunning next book

This was an amazing next book! I couldn't imagine a different second book for this series! It was absolutely perfect! Not only did she basically bond with all four guys
, but she found her magic and got her inheritance. I hated the cliffhanger, but the cliffhangers always led to a new beginning and a happy ending. I can't wait to read the next book!
