A human extinction event predicted to occur within one hundred years due to pollution, global warming, and overpopulation causes the world community to take notice and create the Future Space Initiative (FSI), a large scientific and military complex near Houston, Texas. Staffed with thousands of the best international scientists, FSI is on a 20 year work endeavor to solve the extinction event by developing powerful clean energies as well as developing space technologies that will allow people to go to and populate other planets.
Sponsored by the US government and aided by the US Air Force, FSI has now hit its 20 year deadline and is obliged by law to divulge the new technologies that it has created. As the technologies are made public, Frank and Sarah Norrick, two young FSI scientists who are entering the prime of their careers, are chosen along with their three children to be the first family to be sent on a technologically advanced spaceship to an Earthlike planet outside the solar system as the first colonists.
But an emerging insidious and vicious international organization has its own plans on how to solve the extinction event and does not like FSI’s solutions. Headed by a psychopathic leader and using a single frightening technology developed by an immoral genius, this organization, named SMITE, is bent on taking over the world and solving the extinction event their own way. SMITE’s aim is to embarrass, discredit, and destroy FSI, ultimately killing the Norrick family before they can set off on their interstellar journey. The way will then be cleared for SMITE to complete the takeover of the world’s political systems through a bold secret plan facilitated by a key long-term operative, eliminate FSI’s new “unhealthy” technologies, and provide its own solutions to solving the upcoming human extinction event.
By SMITE’s maneuverings, an ill-advised two-week Moon-Mars mission is abruptly scheduled for the FSI spaceship Adventure, which is intended to start the process to discredit and destroy FSI through bad decisions, treachery, and sabotage. Frank and Sarah are assigned to lead this mission and are saddled with an unusually small and questionable crew. Under these disturbing circumstances, the Adventure takes off to the Moon, on the first leg of its journey.
