About the author

Martin has spent most of his adult life writing in one form or another.
He has spent 25 years of his life working outside the North of England. In London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok and Shanghai.
He writes three series; the Danilov books set in 1930s Shanghai. The genealogical mysteries of Jayne Sinclair and the contemporary crime cases of DI Ridpath set in Manchester.
When he's not writing, he splits his time between the UK and Asia, taking pleasure in playing with his daughter, practicing downhill ironing, single-handedly solving the problem of the French wine lake and wishing he were George Clooney.

Thoroughly enjoyed this second outing for DI Emma Christie. She is a determined Detective, determined to do the best for the victims. She is hampered in this by DCI Davy Jones who certainly doesn't make it easy for her to do her job. When young women are murdered the pressure is on to solve the case without delay. It's a great story and the characters are ones I enjoyed reading about

This series is using interesting characters back and forth along the timeline. A nasty reporter with no ethics, a drug lord with the sense of a businessman, and a great cast of detective team characters.

In Death on the Dee, is the second book in the DI Emma Christie series by M.J. Lee. I already enjoy the DI Ridpath series by the same author and this looks like it is going to become another of my favourites. A crime thriller where atmospheric suspense meets emotional depth, set against the evocative backdrop of the historic city of Chester.

A body is discovered floating in the tranquil waters of the River Dee, and Detective Inspector Emma Christie is thrown into investigate. Emma is a determined detective who like so many other fictional characters has her own personal flaws to cope with. Emma delves into the victims life and discovers deceit, betrayal, and long-buried secrets that threaten to shatter the city’s refined image. With every clue she uncovers, brings her closer to danger.

This is a well written novel that is full of suspense and atmosphere. Pacing is spot on and the characters are interesting making this a good follow up to the first book ‘The Coffin in the Wall’.

Ok, liked the characters, good story. Too formulaic.

I accidentally read book 3 before book 2. I read them one after the other ( couldn't really remember the 1st book). I realized how formulaic they are - very stereotypical characters*, and repetitive in several places (same phrases in both books) . I suppose that's part of a series, but although the actual stories are good and I like the characters, it was tedious reading at times. I'll try the next one when its out and hope there's something new and less repetition of things.
* I don't want to list them - if you read the book and are a regular reader of mysteries and police procedurals, you'll quickly know what I mean.

A thrilling read. Really enjoyed this book. I love this series and Emma's team but its streching reality at times which lets it down but still a good read. Chester is the perfect location. I still highly recommend M.J Lee and both his Ridpath and DI Christie series.
