The JSTU Survival Guide: 100 Days to Conquer Your Fears, Shatter Your Limits, and Build Your Faith by Justin Stuart and Andrew Scites
From the moment I opened this book, I was intrigued! Immediately the authors captured my imagination and piqued my curiosity while directing my thoughts to the all-powerful Creator God! Justin and Andrew tell their stories of funny, creative, and sometimes scary challenges while revealing God’s character and creation in a fun and engaging manner. Many of the devotions have tutorials or give ideas on how to challenge yourself (suggesting getting permission from a trusted adult). Amid the funny cartoon pictures are Bible truths and questions for deeper thinking. This looks like a fun book for boys to read and discuss with family members. These devotions and challenges might spark creativity as well as ignite a renewed love for God, His character, and Creation. #sponsored I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I like the format and concept of this book. The book is split into 13 sections by challenge, with 5 or 10 devotions on that topic. For example the first section is the challenge "Get to know your Creator" with 10 devotions about getting to know God. The monochromatic (blue) color scheme is pleasant with each spread containing a verse and devotion from one of the guys. At the end of the section, there is a challenge for the student to complete--the first one is camping. There are some hand drawn graphics scattered througout the book. I would have liked the devotions to include prayer prompts or scripture references where the reader can find more in the Bible, or both.
I had access to an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I liked what was in the book, but I would look for something a little more robust for my kids.
The JStu Survival Guide: 100 Days to Conquer Your Fears, Shatter Your Limits, and Build Your by Justin Stuart, Andrew Scites and illustrated by Steve Wacksman. This is a great book for late elementary students. The storis are interesting, engaging, and relevant to youth. The humor is perfect. Each devotion is a two-page spread with a verse, a story, a challenge and a lesson. The authors have a YouTube channel and engage in interesting antics. Their fun tone comes across in the book.
This would make a great gift, a summer reading challenge, or fun to read together as a family. I highly recommend the book and believe your middle grader will enjoy reading.
I was given a complimentary copy and not required to write a positive review.
This is an inspirational, funny, and great Christian devotional. You can really tell that God is in their hearts. Thank you for creating wholesome content that my teenage son whose growing in his faith can read.
