Divided We Fall: A Novel of the Second American Civil War

Rate this book
Written in 2005, Divided We Fall begins on the eve of the final debate of the hotly contested 2008 Presidential race and ends amidst the ruins of a battlefield on the outskirts of the city that gave birth to our nation. The heart of this story comes down to a struggle between two men, two movements, and ultimately two visions of America, at stake is nothing less then the very soul of the Republic. We will watch in disbelief as a former Attorney General's absolute evangelical faith and vision for America leads him to justify election fraud, murder, and eventually war on his fellow countrymen and when the upstart, California's new Governor attempts to lead a crusade of change is derailed, his pride and drive for revenge all but guarantee the ultimate betrayal of all he holds dear. We will watch as one Virginian family's own civil war of words turns violent as two sons devoted to two opposing movements find themselves on a battlefield in the dead of winter each with blood on their hands. Divided We Fall is a story how one single tragic act unleashes a series of fast-moving events that takes the nation down the road towards the unthinkable, Civil War. As the violence escalates between Blue and Red forces, the Generals threaten to intervene to establish order and change this Republic forever, finally an aging “Lion of the Senate” performs his greatest act of service to his country in her darkest hour. Inspired by the angry rhetoric of Blue vs. Red states during the 2004 Presidential election and the contentious last years of the Bush administration, Divided We Fall spins the story of how words can lead to tragic actions and spiraling violence that could consume us all and change this nation for all time.

I was really interested in the premise of this book, but just couldn’t stay with it; I gave up just a little short of half way through. The editing is not good, with many dialogue and grammatical errors. I looked past this at first hoping for a good story, but nearly half way through it wasn’t holding my interest.
