Covenant #2

Covenant, Vol. 2

Rate this book
The battle between Heaven and Hell rages on—with Ezra and Sunny caught in the middle! From acclaimed creator LySandra Vuong comes the second volume of the supernatural webcomic that explores a slow burn queer romance, religious faith, the weight of destiny, and what it means to be good in a world plagued by demons.

In a world where priests are decked out in holy tattoos and brandish machine guns in the face of demons, Sunny Nguyen is an outlier—a seemingly normal human who is a mysterious demon magnet. Ezra, an exorcist struggling with his own faith in God, has been tasked by the Archangel Gabriel to protect Sunny—but that might be easier said than done.

As Ezra and the rest of those on his team find themselves facing increasingly violent—and increasingly powerful—forces, the mystery of why these demons want to capture Sunny continues to unfold, and Ezra finds himself drawn to his surly classmate-turned-charge. With their friendship growing and danger mounting, can Ezra’s faith withstand the onslaught? And more importantly—will Sunny survive it?

This volume collects episodes 19–36 of the hit Webtoon series Covenant!

I would die for Ezra, just so you know.

Hot, tattoed priests. Much gay. Very demon.

This series is so good, my god. The slowburn, the art, the cast, the plot … five stars.

Yeah no, I’ve switched sides now.

A solid follow up to the first book in this series. The goal of this volume seems to be to further lay out the conflict with the demons and provide clues for the greater mystery. Overall, that was executed quite well, as a reader I think I just wanted more of Ezra and Sunny together to build their relationship. However, I don’t know how many volumes this series will be so I think it’s fine if we take some time with the relationship development.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a free e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I don't like the grey haired fellow. Also hope MCs'll get together soon. 💜

What's up with Sunny thought? What do the demons want him for?

I was thrilled to get my hands on the advance copy from Netgalley. All my opinions remain my own.
Covenant by LySandra Vuong is easily shaping up to being one of my favourite series' this year. I'm loving the fun twist on religion, with Priests that call on angels to help them fight demons on earth.
The art is stunning as always, with Vuong having such a great grasp on proportion and character design.
Speaking of characters, I'm loving Samson and their aggressive attitude that softens towards those they love. I would like to learn more about Samson because they're one of my favourites!
The plot was good, although I found it got soft in this one compared to the first. The start of the book was following on from a cliffhanger fight from the first book, and then the middle was just everyone trying to figure things out and complaining. But the flashes to the demon lord (not going to name to avoid spoilers) were the best thing in the book. It made them more mysterious and really pushed the plot forward and made the reader wonder what they meant by certain things (especially at the end of the book).
Overall, this is a wonderfully drawn and written series. I'll support the author when it's out in physical form to match my first book on my shelves!

I received this book from NetGalley.

Another banger. The art style always blows me away, it’s stunning. Just looking at it by itself outside of the story is super appealing on its own but bonus that the story is also incredibly fun to read.

I’m even more invested in both the plot and the characters themselves. The more we learn about Sunny the more interested I get. This was action packed and so fun.

I would highly recommend this series.

there’s something about hot priests with tattoos and deadly weapons fighting demons that I’m very much into

I love the world building and queer representation throughout, it’s just so casual and natural. it’s not the only part of the story, it isn’t made to be the centre of it all but it’s just there as references for the community which I’m obsessed with

I really enjoyed the progression from volume one and I’m so intrigued to see how it will continue, just fun and fresh

Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for the readers' copy.

I know hot, queer, fighter priests sounds niche but I love this for everyone ♥
The characters, art style, pacing, dialogue are perfect. Literally no notes.
Such a fun continuation from book 1 and again leaves you wanting more.

Book 3 please *makes grabby hands*

Not much in way of a narrative, but strong action, really powerful coloring and lettering, and a fast, high-action flow from panel to panel that really pulls you onwards. Thoroughly enjoying thd series and have just bought the new one.

I liked this and am still really eager to know how things play out. Not a whole lot actually happens in this volume, the mystery is still just sort of building. I did find most of the action scenes confusing, it was hard to tell what was supposed to be happening and sometimes hard to tell who is who. I'm definitely still invested though and want to know what happens next.

This series truly is amazing. I love that in this volume I learned more about Sunny and the other characters in the cast. Isaac is slowly becoming my favorite. I love his design, powers, and his personality. I think this volume really showed the dynamic of the team. The art is still stunning and seeing more intense fight scenes made me love the art even more. I love the club scene and seeing how Sunny and Ezra were sharing a glance. I really am falling in love with this series and I can't wait to see more of it. The story has so many layers and the more I learn the more layers are added to the mystery to keep me engaged. It is an amazing series.

I liked the first volume very much and the second is still stunning art-wise but also rather confusing. I don’t mind not getting answers for a while but most of the volume consists of battle scenes, which could be interesting but the majority of the panels are just whooshes and whumps, strikes of weapons in the dark with no clear distinction who is who and what’s happening.

I’m still curious and willing to read more but this volume felt more like a filler, even if worth reading for the art alone.

Thank you NetGalley and Oni Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

This checks a lot of boxes for me. I really love the concept and where this is going. The artwork is great. The characters are interesting and the plot is intriguing.

I hope in future installments we get a little more background on the characters and the things revolving around their tattoos and abilities but overall, I really enjoyed this and can't wait for more

We get a lot more into the world-building and Sunny’s backstory in this one. The demons are truly scary and I still have no idea what’s going on. 😅 Can’t wait to read more!

This installment gave us way more plot and context, along with badass fights, so needless to say I ate it up. Good mystery elements too; I’m very curious to know how this will all end 👀
