When Birdie Vergano was little, she dreamed of being a princess. Of hearing stories from her little classmates.
She dreamed of experiencing things they also did.
However, none of them had a mother like she did.
And none of them lived next to a woman who turned out to be her guardian angel.
Years later, that guardian angel did something, and she forever cemented herself firmly inside Birdie’s heart.
Wanting to find the same peacefulness, the same ever-lasting view that the world is a marvelous place, that it is what you make of it, she headed to a little town called Holly Springs.
What Birdie never imagined would happen, of course, she had dreamed of it happening, happened.
For Abel Black, he only cared about the things most important to him, his two brothers, his bar, his house and land, and keeping his heart carefully guarded.
His heart had been chewed up and spit out, more times than he could count.
However, what he never planned on was a four-foot-eleven powerhouse, with curves in all the right places, long black hair, simply doing nothing more, than winking at him, giving him those bedroom eyes without realizing it.
He had tried to hold himself back.
She was younger than him.
Much younger than him.
Only… fate didn’t seem to care about that.
In the slightest.
HEA. Spicy. Age-Gap. Grumpy/Sunshine. Small-Town Romance. No Cheating.
Birdie Vergano had a rough childhood with the exception of Miss Maggie who showered her with kindness and life lessons. When she loses Maggie, she finds herself on a journey which has her finding a home in Holly Springs. Getting a job is next on her list and she finds one waitressing at Virgin Mary's and meeting Abel Black. Birdie is attracted to Abel, Abel feels the same but he is old and set in his ways or at least that is how he thinks of it. If Abel is willing to give Birdie a chance, he may find his happily ever after but there is a threat targeting Birdie. Can Abel man up?
I liked this new series. Abel bumbles up but redeems himself. I really liked Birdie, she could have really let life take a turn toward disaster but she held her head high. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
My heart completely broke for both Abel and Birdie. Thier childhood is nothing short of horrible until guardian angels change things for them. Old Fashioned is a feel good story set in small town USA and gives you all the small town vibes you love when reading these stories. I completely fell in love with all of these characters but Miss Maggie and Rich will forever be, for me, the best part. I also love that Abel being a bit older than Birdie, struggles with being good enough for her but Birdie cuts him no slack.
"You’re getting the best of me. Ain’t ever wanted to give someone the best of me.”
"Abel, damaged recognizes damaged. But I think when we get to that point, we’re going to end up whole.”
All of these characters I'm sure have great stories to tell and I hope we get more of them.
Tiffany Casper hit it out of the park with this book! I love everything about it!! Not only were the characters fantastic but the storyline was so fun to follow. I was given all the feels but in the best way. I hope everyone has a Miss Maggie in their life. Abel and Birdie just melt my heart into goo! Seriously, everyone needs to read this book! It just makes you believe in things you forgot about. This is one of those books I will totally read again!!! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer.
This is a very very slow romance. There are also some editing issues, which usually doesn’t bother me, but some parts you can’t tell the transition between who’s talking. Also, there’s some discrepancies, I think at one point he said he was nine years in prison and then later on, it was seven years. Some of the characters reactions were childish. There is a lot of winking in this story, not sure what’s up with that. As an adult, Birdie was made out to be perfect for everyone and everything.
I adored birdie from the start. She is so tough and my heart broke when she lost the only person who ever showed her an ounce of love, but I loved seeing her find her home and her people. Abel was also pretty awesome. Even when he had his moments, he wasn’t a jerk, not really. Possibly the best part of the entire book though was Ryker. I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to more in this series.
I just love a great romance and Ms Casper did not fail me. This story started in a way that draws you in and keeps you there. She used secondary characters to make the story more real . I loved Abel he might be one of the best hero's I have enjoyed. Ms Casper characters are real life and her books make you feel like you could walk right into the pages. Her Birdie was amazing for the heroine down to the name. Great book!
I loved Birdie, she had a sassiness and strength of someone who fought her way to better. Yes Miss Maggie did help, but she gave Birdie ber own foundation to build upon Abels old fashioned values can on occasion feel stiffling, but as its based in love and trust, its understandable
My only question was.. wouldnt Miss Maggies family come looking for that money
Loved Birdie, she's a strong woman who has overcome a horrible upbringing due to her "guardian angel." I loved this about her. Abel meets Birdie, and though he absolutely wants her, he himself has issues. Through the initial limbo, they learn about each other and how perfect they are together. Just read it!
Wow. I loved Abel and Birdie together. Both having had horrible pasts and together they put their pasts behind them and have such a loving relationship. The past doesn’t always stay in the past, but they get through it. I loved all the characters in this book and would love to read more about them all.
What can I say. Hmm I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put this down. It made me cry. Don't judge a book by its cover. Age is just a number. I loved the passion and proctivness in here. I loved the family aspect. Good HEA. NEEDS TK READ. Tiffany didn't disappoint. Loved every book she writes.
What a wonderful heartfelt read! Characters were amazing, plot was great, it was everything I needed. Congratulations Tiffany Casper on another Five Star book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know this is Birdie's story, but all I could keep thinking is we all need a Miss Maggie. Their relationship ran so deep and provided Birdie with something and someone she never had.
This was such a great story to read. It has every emotion in it and once you start it, you do not want to put it down until you have finished. I hope there is more
Old fashioned or good manners ?That the question when Birdie finds a new life and love in a town of her dreams. Another wonderful story from this author. I always rush off to read her newest book.
I knew when one of my favorite authors recommended this up and coming author, that it was gonna be a great experience! Great minds think and write alike!😍 Can't wait to read more!
I absolutely love Abel and Birdie. Birdie's family before she met and loved Ms Maggie totally sucks. This was a very good book and I enjoyed reading it. I hope that there will be more books to come.
This was a very good book. I like both main characters in the book. I wish I was warn about Caelen being raped in the book when he was younger. I skimmed and skipped those part. Too disturbing for me. I also wished that they wanted more than one children.
Really enjoyed this story I absolutely loved Miss Maggie, she truly was a guardian angel. Loved the characters and the story, looking forward to seeing where the author takes things next
