One reckless night at an exclusive, anonymous club was meant to distract me from my troubles, not make them worse.
Then I find out that the masked stranger I shared an intimate encounter with was none other than Tate King, the King Group’s billionaire chief of marketing, infamous playboy, and my brother’s old college roommate.
As much as I want to pretend that night at the club never happened, Tate won't let me. He proposes a deal, one that will help deflect the tabloids’ attention from their favorite target, while offering a lifeline to my struggling coffee shop. Fake date New York’s most notorious bachelor? It sounds crazy, but desperation decides for me.
I convinced myself years ago that I was immune to Tate’s charm, but every touch, every kiss, every secret spilled, blurs the line between make-believe and reality. As our lives grow more entangled, I realize the hardest part of this charade won’t be maintaining our act, it will be trying not to fall for the man I'm pretending to love.
Because he may have proven that there’s far more to him than his reputation, but one question remains.
If Tate’s never been willing to risk his own heart, can I ever trust him with mine?
I have been looking forwards to Tate’s book for a while and it didn’t disappoint. Violet was so strong, despite what was thrown at her, and Tate with his playboy ways. From their first appearance, it was clear that they’d have sparks together, being the complete opposites that they are.
Tate and Violet’s first meeting held so much heat and steam, with the hidden identities was so intriguing! Once they realised that they knew each other, and how they are connected, it really amped up the heat between them.
Their fake dating scheme allowed for them to really explore their connection, without acknowledging their feelings. While Tate is the definition of a playboy, it was so sweet to see him fall with every little moment he and Violet share.
The third act drama brought the angst, but Tate truly showed who he was to Violet and it was so sweet to see them truly happy and in love.
This is the second book in the Empty Kingdom series.
Tate King is the playboy brother of the family. Although, for the past several months he hasn’t been living true to his image, even though the press makes it out that he is. When he visits the club he is partners in one night, he is taken in by a masked woman once she walks in the door.
Violet Sinclair is a hardworking woman who is trying to save the coffee shop her father owned. She’s been hurt by a past relationship and when she first met Tate years ago, her first impression lasted. When she meets him at the club, not knowing who he is, she lets herself go and enjoys herself. She is intrigued by him and finds herself returning again.
Tate has a proposal for Violet that would be mutually beneficial to them both. What follows is a fake dating relationship that escalates to a fake engagement. Violet has been open with Tate during their conversations and he allows her to see inside himself, which he’s never done with anyone else. After a bit of angst, these two do find their HEA.
Tate learned to open himself up and reveal his true self. Violet wasn’t a shrinking one, she is a strong person who goes after what she wants. Although they come from vastly different backgrounds, she held her own in the circles where Tate had to socialize.
I enjoyed this story. If you enjoy billionaires who are able to find strong female life partners, you’ll enjoy this book and the previous one.
I’m looking forward to reading Roman’s story and hope I don’t have to wait long. I’m definitely going to binge this author’s other books.
TATE. TATE KING. whew this man!!! The mouth on this man!!! 🫣🫣🫣 the author knew what she was doing. Beautiful love story and I wasn’t expecting this twist at all. I don’t always love the tropes that were used in this book, but the storyline really worked and I loved it. To me it was perfectly written!
If intense, swoonworthy billionaires are your prefered leading men in romance, author L.M. Dalgleish's Empty Kingdom series will be right up your alley. The wealthy, powerful King brothers are conquering the world they excel in, while finding love in all the right places. How I love to watch the mighty fall. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Cold Hearted King, and hoped flirty charmer Tate's book would be next.
In Reckless King, Tate has an image problem that needs a solution, so a mutually beneficial relationship is the way to go, but who will the lucky lady be? ME??? Haha, no, but a girl can dream, can't she? This unrepentant playboy surprised me at every turn and I completely adored him by the end of his story.
Violet was working so hard to keep her family's coffee shop afloat, but how much longer can she hold on? This sweet, kind girl- I just wanted her to catch a break, have some fun and find a worthy partner to share her life with. She's smart, beautiful- inside and out, but her fiery, independent side? She sure gave a certain someone a run for his money.
I became so deeply immersed in this world, I just couldn't get enough of it. Fake, close proximity relationships are one my all time favorite romance tropes and Tate with Violet? One thing lead to another and what a crazy good, 5 alarm, smoking hot, and all too real relationship this one turned out to be. I was sucked right into their passion filled story.
I loved EVERYTHING about Reckless King and these characters who pulled on my heartstrings from beginning to end. L.M. Dalgleish's words were playing in my head like a technicolor movie, flowing from each page, sharing the beautiful romance that became Tate and Violet's one of a kind, witty, touching and VERY spicy love story.
I was originally wowed by her irresistable rockstars and am now intrigued by these sexy King brothers. When I find a series that keeps the connections, romance and excitement flowing, I just want to read everything about them. Could the hyperfocused, 'all business, all the time', mysterious CEO Roman be next in line for his own happy ending? I sure do hope so!
I received an early copy of this book to read and review.
I was intrigued by Tate from when we met him in a previous book and was so excited to read his story. I loved Violet from the outset and she was a really likeable character, she stood up for herself but kept her integrity. The Kings certainly make some great leading men and i can’t wait for Roman’s story.
DNF’d after about 50 pages. ‘Let’s chuck every trope in and see what happens? Not anything worth reading - it seemed to be scenes from every book I’ve already read. Very disconnected.
Why was this book so long? I almost gave it DNF closer to the end. Violet did not captivated me at all. It was all very disconnected and confusing. Do not recommend.
This book is the second in the Empty Kingdom series. It can be read as a standalone but it shouldn't. Why ? Because the 1st book Coldhearted King is one of the best billionaire romance I have ever read ! This second book follows the second King brother Tate, the playboy, in his delightful journey falling hard for his butterfly. I got all the feelings with that story, when I wasn't laughing at their antics, I was swooning at the ultimate cuteness that is Tate King. I'm now waiting for the 3rd King brother story !!!!!
I liked this book at first and I liked both Violet and Tate. They had good chemistry and tension in the beginning —but then my God this book dragged. It is needlessly long and repetitive.
Probably my biggest pet peeve in fake relationship books is the constant “this is fake, this isn’t real”thought that goes around and around. It was on a constant reel in Violet’s inner monologue. There was just a lot of nothing happening. When they finally started messing around—I didn’t care. When they finally had sex—I didn’t care. When they both realized they were in love—I didn’t care. When he has to break her heart—I didn’t care a single bit and I finally decided to throw in the towel. I didn’t care if or how they got back together so that was it for me.
DNF at 30%. I LOVED book 1 but there was something about this one that made me really not that interested which sucks because I really liked Tate’s character in the first book. I wish the reason why Violet didn’t like Tate was a little stronger. I don’t see why him being an arrogant playboy would really matter to her when he was just her brothers roommate in college. Maybe I’ll try it again later.

L. M. Dalgleish -Reckless King A Billionaire Fake Engagement Romance (Empty Kingdom Book 2)
My Review: My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶 Pages: 450 Genre: Romance Tropes: Billionaire Romance, Second Chance, Enemies To Lovers, Brothers Best Friend
Tate, Violet’s brothers college roommate. Who she detested. Now he’s a billionaire along with his three brothers. Violet’s moved back to try and save her deceased father’s legacy…a coffee shop. Her brother who is now a Harvard graduate works as one of Tate’s family corporate attorneys.
Violet needs funds to keep the run down coffee shop afloat and restore it to its prime. and Tate needs a steady relationship to dispel constant paparazzi negative image reports on him. They enter into a fake relationship that is beneficial to them both.
Of course nothing works out as intended. You’ll have to read the book to find out how it all plays out.
It will be published on March 7th. I guarantee you will want to read it! I read it in one setting! Now I’m going back and reading the first book which is Cole (Tate’s brother) and Delilah’s story!
I highly recommend this book! Also check out this authors rockstar romance series the Fractured series. I’ve read all four books and very highly recommend this series also!!
Best book I've read this month and I've read a lot of great books!
I loved everything about this story. From the character development to the happily ever after and all the in between. Tate is the typical billionaire playboy who ends up in the tabloids on a regular basis. Violet is the owner of a struggling coffee shop that her dad opened before he passed away and who just needs a break. Her bestie convinces her to join her at an exclusive sex club where she has an encounter with a masked stranger that she never expects to see again. Imagine her surprise at finding out it was with someone she already knew and didn't like. Even more surprising is that he wants her to sign a contract to be his fake girlfriend for a few months to get the tabloids to back off. In exchange, he will pay her plenty of money that she desperately needs to save her business. Just because she doesn't like him doesn't mean she can't pretend for a couple months, right?
I was entirely consumed by this book. Truly well written with the perfect amount of pacing, development and spice! Do you need to read Coldhearted King first? Probably not. Should you? Absolutely! Am I excited for the next book? Yes, I am, but I don't know if the author can write a book boyfriend I'll love more than Tate!
Think I love this one more than the first!!! Violet and Tate are so perfect for each other. I love that they've known each other for years. It was inevitable that they'd end up together. What Eric did to Violet is disgusting! He should have had more repercussions. I wish Tate would have been more honest with Violet about what's going on, but it all worked out in the end.
“Yes or No, Butterfly?” HELL YESS! TATE KING!😫😩🔥🔥❤️❤️ Oh my goodness 😩🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 this is so freaking hot!
Hear me out… Imagine a man making you come three times before he fcks you and then two more while inside you? Violet is so luckyy😭😩😂🫦 (real men can’t relate)
And the audiobook🤔 -Aaron Shedlock sounds like Ser Jorah Mormont from Game of Thrones, both in a good way😆He nailed it, though💯💕
“I made a terrible impression on you that day, and you made a lasting one on me. I didn’t know then how much you’d change my life.”
i’m convinced the author pulled this book out of her 2018 archives because of the nostalgia it brought me. i also never realized how much i like the name tate until this book 😶🌫️
- Billionaire romance - Fake dating to fake engagement - Brother's friend (and kinda boss) - Forced proximity - Touch her and 💀 vibes - He falls first - Spicy, then slow burn, then SPICY 😂 - Dual POV
Immediately yes. Immediately yes. This so so so so fucking cute and fun and just ndjdhdhdjabs. TATE OMFG KSJSSJJS. This was actually surprisingly good??!?! Obviously its not the best BUT SHE ATE!!! I mean it’s a fake dating billionaire romance I MEAN WHATS NOT TO LIKE?
Reckless King by @lmdalgleishauthor I loved this book! Tate and Violet were SO good together. If you’re into fake relationships and watching a total Playboy fall hard, this one’s for you. It’s a slow burn, but when it hits? Omg, it explodes. 🔥🤌🍆 I highly recommend it if you like tension, banter, and all the feels!
Predictable but still enjoyable. The chemistry between the two characters was done wonderfully. This is my second book I’ve read by L.M. Dalgleish & I’m really liking it. I will definitely be reading the last book in this series.
