I owned this book as a child and just recently rediscovered it. It was a delight to look over the familiar pictures once more. My childhood version came with a cassette tape audio version of the book, and I can still hear the narrator while I read it! I love rediscovering old favorites.
This review is of the version illustrated by Diane Goode - There are two pages of illustrations I really enjoyed - one showed the transformation of mice to horses, and the other of lizards to footmen.
1. Awards (None) 2. Grade Level- 2-4 3 Summary- Cinderella, a mistreated young woman living with her stepmother and stepsisters, attends the palace ball with the help of her fairy godmother. The only rule is that she must leave before midnight. She loses her glass slipper at the ball, and ends up marrying the prince when he discovers the shoe belongs to her. 4. Review- The moral of the story is kindness is more admirable than physical beauty. This is a good lesson for children and the story is timeless. The pictures show very expressive characters and scenes. 5. In class uses- folktales, discussion of character traits
This is a beautifully illustrated version of Cinderella, with some things that have not become "traditional". While I miss that the stepmother and sisters get what they deserve in some other version, I do love the forgiveness and continued grace that this Cinderella offers to her step sisters.
