LET ME FIRST SAY...THIS BOOK WAS RIDDLED WITH THE TYPICAL CLICHES OF A SHIFTER ROMANCE, maybe even a few plot baits thrown in for the sake of making it a page turner. But still, I ATE IT UP. Now I'm left on a cliffhanger because I can't purchase the Kindle edition in South East Asia...f**kin Amazon sucks sometimes.
Seeing as how this is a 6 books story, you can imagine how long the character development might have to take. That being said, let's jump into :
IVY is a timid character you'll have to allot patience, and I get it. She's been abused, traumatized and conditioned by fear from a child, and that kind of mental scarring in your head doesn't just go away with a simple act of kindness. Abuse victims don't just magically heal overnight, and IVY needed that space in order to become the Queen she was meant to be. Let's just say, I liked seeing glimpses of the feisty person she could be once in awhile. Otherwise, be prepared for a very meek and fearful heroine. Her loyalty and friendship with Abbie is to die for.
DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YA!
KYSON started off great, but towards the ending, I hated his 360 change in attitude just because he couldn't think rationally.
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS AHEAD! Stop now if you can't handle it!
KYSON is the personification of infatuated mate from the beginning, after "rescuing" Ivy and Abbie from being killed. As the last surviving Lycan royalty, it doesn't sound all glamour and glitz. He's struggling to survive each day with the lost of his own family and beloved ones, hoping to seek revenge. Ivy is the mate he didn't expect, and yet he starts treasuring her, though there were times I was pissed at him for assuming an abused victim could just magically BE OKAY with him JUST BECAUSE HE WAS NICE OR KIND TO HER.
Well, that's a load of bullshit, the fucking hypocrite when he found out her parents were the ones who killed his family, and there in lies the hypocrisy of his feelings. Just as their bond was starting to grow, one pebble thrown into the water and their relationship or lack thereof falls apart.
KYSON needs to do some serious GROVELLING in the next book when I see him! To think...he wanted to earn her wilting trust, only to burn the bridges when he discovered her identity (or not) and began to push her away. IVY wasn't wrong to wait for the other shoe to drop. Her suspicion to his kindness, waiting for him to kick her out...was right all along.
OVERALL this has your typical angst plot if you're into THAT sort of thing - WHICH I AM - a sucker for, even if some readers will think it's STUPID and A WASTE OF TIME. I hope IVY will truly come to be herself, to love herself, and to know she is worth more than anyone or any man can say. Even if her mate doesn't want her due to his own stupidity, FUCK HIM, and I hope she makes him beg for it. LOL! Sorry, that ending really left me feeling vindictive!
