The Guild of the Eternal Flame has its first recruit and the deeds they’ve done so far are beginning to become fireside tales, but there are always those who would take advantage.
When our five adventurers are approached by a less savory character with a possible next job they have to decide where they stand and what sort of reputation they want. Are they willing to do whatever it takes for the money they need?
Meera’s control over her magic has grown stronger than ever, but with a sentient fireball to watch over and all manner of training and fights to handle, she has to learn once and for all, if discipline is enough.
Can five heroes, a wolf, an apprentice and their enchanted flame keep the dream of a guild for everyone alive? Or is this all going to come tumbling down.
Find out now in this tale of daring adventures, a possible heist, and lots of shenanigans.
An enjoyable… I hesitate to call it a swords and sorcerers fantasy because it doesn’t have quite the same feel a a typical swords and sorcerers fantasy. The five friends, six now that they have an apprentice, reluctantly agree to steal a healing relic from a temple with the expectation of returning it after using it to heal the person they were hired to steal it for.
I love the loyal, good-hearted characters with secrets, and I’m glad to finally find out Meera’s secret! I can’t wait to read the next one!
Spoiler below in a bit more summary of the plot:
They almost steal it only to find that the real relic was already stolen and they were caught trying to steal a fake. They agree to find the real relic and their quest gets much bigger with now two payments expected at the end.

Because there is a time gap between each new book in the series - I appreciate Talia's taking the space with each new book to reacquaint us with the characters. That is, of course, if you read her books "hot off the press". This series is an enjoyable departure from her extensive collection of Dragon books. The Guild of Eternal Flame is more of an intellectual pursuit, organized around 5 strangers (1 wolf) who solve problems jointly, but only after. - some discussion. Guess it is the dialog, of the thought process, that I find interesting, that sets The Guild apart from some of her first works. Thus, I can state: she gets better and better.
3 and a half stars. A good story, with an unanswered question at the end leading to the next tale. Still has inconsistencies, still needs proofreading.
