[I'm trying to write this 5/4/22...]

TBH I really like that Sage kicked her lying fiance to the curb. DESPITE all the pressure from her family. GOOD ON YOU, GIRL.
And ... then her dad. Yikes.

Sage and Gabe are rather volatile - and honestly the last few days have been a mess and especially when I was listening to this book? [I'm not sure if this is the one I listened to overnight/stayed up for 48 hours cuz these steroid shots?] Anyway.

... I need to re-listen to this book, but IIRC I really liked how everything played out. [Even the stuff I didn't LIKE I felt it was realistic and made sense for the characters.]

Perfect Fit by Brenda Jackson
Perfect #2
10h 7m narrated by Leon Nixon, 304 pages

Genre: African-American Romance, Contemporary Romance

Featuring: Epigraphs, Parts, Detroit, Michigan; Charlotte, North Carolina; Anchorage, Alaska; Work Trip

Rating as a movie: NC-17 for strong sexual content

Songs for the soundtrack: "Here and Now" by Luther Vandross, "In Those Jeans" by
Ginuwine, "Knock Knock" by Monica

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½❄️🌨🏂🏿

My thoughts: 📱14% 1:22:34 Ch. 4 - So Chicago has become Detroit? There are a lot of storylines here and if one of them involves cheating it's not going to be fun for me.
📱47% 4:45:39 Ch. 15 - The story has improved but it's still not as good as the first book.
📱82% 8:16:38 Ch. 26 - It has more depth than I expected and it's not following the romance pattern (I like that), but I feel like it should have been nearly over by now, but we're now in part 3.

This one took a while to warm up and parts made me question the ending of the previous book. The 3rd part was just okay. The scene that could have inspired Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys was the best part of the story for me. I'm starting the novellas immediately.

Recommend to others: Yes. This was a decent love story.

Perfect Fit is a Pefect Read

Sage Dunbar is at the top of her marketing career and is engaged to her college sweetheart, she is living the life most women dream about. But what a difference a day makes. In blink of an eye, her world is shattered when her fiance depletes her bank accounts and turns her dream into a nightmare.~~~~~~~Gabriel Blackwell is handsome, single and successful. As co-owner of a top architectural firm he is a hot commodity in and out of the boardroom. Gabe wants to find a good woman and settle down, but that woman must meet one specific requirement, she must not bring any relationship baggage. Gabe's past dating experiences have left him cautious about sharing his heart.~~~~~~~I was immediately drawn to the Sage and Gabe. The intensity of the love that Mrs. Jackson decsribes in the book is vivid and can easily be felt by the reader. This a great read for anyone who belives in soul mates and especially those who have found theirs. This book is a definite MUST read!

Originally Reviewed on The Bewitching Bibliophile

I picked this one up pretty quickly after reading Perfect Timing. Since I originally started with this book I was able to dive right in with some background on the main character telling the story. I dived into this having glimpsed the character from the previous book and having formed an idea of who he was due to his actions and the advice he gave in book one.

Now Brenda writes characters that are amazingly relatable. They are successful, come from different backgrounds but have stories and experiences the reader has had or knows someone who has lived it. This makes for a really good and immersive reading experience. The characters are all well written, fleshed out and well rounded. In this one we meet up again with Gabe who is a successful businessman who is happy to be in a new town due to the change in his firm, with his best friend now a married man, he's the one doing the traveling, and while there sees a vision across the room. This woman immediately draws him in and he's beyond disappointed when he realizes that she's so confident and glowing happily because she's a successful woman who is engaged. And he's got the feeling she's happy with her place in life.

With this being the start of the story I wasn't sure what was going to happen to bring these two together, because as y'all know I don't read synopsis, especially from favorite authors. They are just autobuy and read. The story is told in two parts, the beginning with everyone's background and the laying down of information as to what leads us to the second part. And when we find out what happens to send Sage running to the cold wilds of Alaska, I totally agreed with her. I was freaking out and cussing out everyone involved. Dealt such a heartbreaking blow she goes away to find a good way to explain to her family what happened and discovers a secret so soul destroying it just about breaks her. I couldn't help but feel her pain, because Goddess above knows I wouldn't know what to do or say in that situation. I do know I would rage though, just be so angry.

The premise of this story is the lesson each of the characters has to learn in forgiveness and letting go. Even though Gabe had created these rules to protect himself he hadn't really dealt with his own issues from his situation and this caused a constant back and forth between him and Sage. As Sage, I was also annoyed that people kept insisting she didn't know her own mind and would come around once she stopped being mad. Listen, I'm not that forgiving and this isn't one of those moments a person can just get over, so stop asking me to be the bigger person. I can forgive, but forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean reconciliation.

Now I have very strong feelings about cheating. I'm not going to say that everyone else should follow my lead, it's your relationship do what works for you. However, I highlighted this discussion between the person being cheated on and Sage and I just wanted to slap them.

"While he didn’t tell me everything that was going on with him at work, I felt something was bothering him, and I became concerned. But not concerned enough to start spending more time with him to get to the root of the problem. Instead, I became more and more absorbed in what I was doing—my church work, my charities, my frustrations to move forward and make wedding plans, and my own job. I wasn’t there for him. Unfortunately, someone else was.” ~~~ Only a strong woman, a very strong woman, could admit as well as accept something like that.

Let me explain to you, no matter how much you work at taking care of your relationship if your partner is going to cheat THEY WILL CHEAT. It's bullshyt to try to lift the burden of their bad behavior by saying you should have done more. We are partners for a good long time and you didn't think to come to me and say " I think my job is in jeopardy, I'm going to have to work harder and longer to prove to them that I'm still good at it". You made a unilateral choice to take yourself off and sleep with someone else because I couldn't read your effing mind?? Is you crazy??

If you want to forgive them then say it's because Y'all have history and you don't feel like starting over. Don't serve me some religious bullshyt that we are called to forgive. No. They cheated, they had plenty of time in which to make a change to walk away to not actually take their clothes off and sleep with that person. And to then have someone else help hide your duplicity?? Nah son, I hate how women, especially black women are expected to absorb the trauma of their partners lying, cheating and putting their health at risk and work at forgiving them, when we know full well that if the reverse happened those women would be dogged out and called all kinds of names.

I did like the progression of the story and loved the parallels in growth that both Sage & Gabe had to go through. Even though Sage didn't believe she had anything left to learn. I would have loved more from her friend Rose's story as we were only getting snippets and a few spoke of trauma not being addressed. I did love the growth she also went through and how that helped her open up to avenues she normally wouldn't have looked at without making those changes.

It was a sweet ending and a good story. I loved the romance of it, the building of a friendship then slow dating, the slow unfolding of love and the acceptance of the gift that love is. Forgiveness comes in many forms and letting go comes when the heart has fully healed. It leaves scars but each love is a lesson and a chance to embrace change and I loved this story for that.

I liked book one better. This was off to a great start but then I got tired of them making excuses for men. Forgiving and moving on does not mean you lower expectations and standards. 😑

I usually don't read romance novels because they are usually so predictable and sappy. Of course this one fits the bill as being just as sappy and predictable. Damaged girl meets damaged boy and then let the love begin. The beauty of romance novels are that they can sometimes be a great escape from my usual suspense or crime thriller. I enjoyed escaping into this one. The characters were flawed and the premise was predictable but the writer still managed to get me to continue turning the page.

I also found it to be pretty interesting to have a love story unfold in the most uncommon place: Ancharage, Alaska. But then again, what else is there really to do but snuggle up with someone who's good looking. The scene is set perfectly for the log cabin with fire flickering in the background and the shadows of two bodies becoming one. I probably won't read any more from this author in the near future but I won't check her from the list. Anytime I need a good cheesy romance to fill up time I will consider this author.

I listened to the audio book and it was pretty decent. The romance between .Gabe and Sage was predictable.

I could understand Sage feeling like she did about Erol. He lied and seriously destroyed the trust. I can forgive you while I am forgetting about you. I though she should have kept the ring.

I didn't pay attention to when this book was written, but some of the statements and details had me wondering. For example, Her parents were swell. You guys are super. What decade was this. Then we had Gabe taking off Dave's slip. Sage was wearing a SLIP. What century is this? Let's not talk about the Victorian era when he starts talking about he has to mate with Sage or mentioning his loins. All of that felt so old to me.

Both Gabe and Sage had baggage, but I never understood why it took her forever to talk it out with her father instead of harboring all of that resentment. Having bothered characters holding on to the baggage did get to be a little tiresome. I did like that Sage's mother eventually told her that it was grown folks business and not hers.

I was glad they got their HEA, and it took them a really long time to get there. I was more interested in Parnell and Rose's story.

Whew child! A story about forgiveness that everyone could relate too. When Sage meets Gabriel Blackwell she was happily engaged, however, when she sees him again in Alaska things have changed. Sage gets hit with a double whammy when her fiancé and her father loses her trust within a couple of hours. Sage meets Gabe again and they reconnect, but decide to take things slow. I loved their connection. They were so honest with each other. Gabe is a MAN that we all want in our lives . Sage has learns that forgiving is the only way that she can move on and be with her love Gabe. Not only does she find love, but her friend Rose finds love too. Such a beautiful story. Being able to see the characters develop made it even better.

Not going to lie, I actually downloaded this book thinking it was something else but by the time I realized it….I was in too deep. I’m glad Sage stuck to her guns, even with the pressure from her family and friends. A lot of times people really deserve to be left right where they’re at and I’m here for it. It was a little cheesy to me at times, but I’m also not a big romance reader. It was a cute, quick novel and the spicyness was perfect.

These days, I’ve become bored with reading “popular” romance novels that promise to be Rom coms.
They neither make me laugh nor have the mushy feels that I usually like when I read romance.
Because of that, I’ve decided to go back to reading old romance novels that made me fall in love with the genre in the first place.
A Perfect Fit immediately filled me with pleasure.
Gabe and Sage had good chemistry, conversations and most importantly, there was a plot and tension. The family drama between Sage and her parents enriched the narrative.
The sex scenes were tastefully done and hot.
I enjoyed every minute reading this story.

I liked how it was a bit difficult for the two main characters, Gabe and Sage, to be together. I feel it resembles real life, especially since the difficulty was both of the characters having 'baggage'. They both weren't so trusting at first because of past relationships. They even hurt each other in the process. But what I love most about romance novels is that love wins in the end, somehow, someway. I was also going through a similar situation at the time I was reading this novel, so I loved it even more. The moral of the story...love prevails!

This is a traditional HEA. However, I think it spent too much time telling the back story of these characters. This is a novel where I would have preferred the back story to be told in one chapter rather than shown in 8 or 9.
Once the H/h met or where in place it was good especially if you like Brenda Jackson. There are some issues in this book for me especially around toxic masculinity. Even the hero is mildly toxic and takes for granted he knows the heroine better than she knows herself. This is my first book in the series. I do plan to read them all.

I enjoyed Gabe and Sage’s story. Sage is at the top of her career and engaged to be married. All is well, until she discovers her fiancé loses her savings in a bogus investment. Sage immediately ends the relationship and moves to Alaska for a work project. Gabe Blackwell is co-owner of the construction company on the Alaska project. He has been attracted to Sage from the moment he saw her. However, Gabe is not interested in being with a woman who has baggage from a previous relationship.

I loved how Sage walked away from her relationship and didn’t look back. Her parents annoyed me because I couldn’t understand why they acted like Sage was wrong when her money was stolen. Gabe and Sage couldn’t resist the attraction. Even though Gabe gave her a hard time thinking she was still interested in her ex, it wasn’t over the top. They came together and had a beautiful romance. I loved how Sage went and got her man back. Rose gets an honorable mention because she always told Sage the truth no matter what.

I'm glad Sage finally found the man that would make her happy. She should have not let her daddy and ex-fiance get in the way of her happiness. Plus, Gabe also has some distrust in his ex-girlfriend, which just like Sage clouded his judgement when it came to the matters of the heart. Just because someone cheats, and steal something that is valuable to you. It doesn't mean the next person will do the same. Heartache doesn't last forever, it mends overtime and with faith.

Okay listen, it was a good romance, there was a third act breakup that resolved right before the end of the book. The one and only reason that i’m goving it a 3 instead of a 5 is this: the smut scenes were written so proper, like they’re victorian children who haven’t learned the more vulgar names for things. As well as the fact that god was mentioned quite a lot in the story. Those two just ticked me off a bit. It’s a good book, just not worthy of 5 stars to me.

This book was just OK for me. I wanted to love it, but the writing just didn’t draw me in. The storyline was interesting, but the way it was written felt very neat, very predictable. I could practically finish the sentences without having to read the full sentence. I see it’s well-rated tho, so clearly some loved it.

Sage and Gabe both had their trust played with but their deep love and passion for each other they couldn’t resist. I love the way they communicated with each other about topics but they didn’t discuss the most important where the relationship was heading, luckily Sage found forgiveness in her heart to realize she loved Gabe.

Great read as usual from this author

Ms Jackson knows how to tell a story that keeps you interested. Gabe and Sage, couple of the year. Loved them both. I understand how Sage felt about trusting men after what her father and Erol did. Gabe restored her faith. Loved this story.

Not worth the cost

For the cost I expected more. I didn't care for the parents storyline. I thought it was a bunch of BS I don't like books or movies that encourage women to be door mates. But to each their own.

Gabe Blackwell and Sage Dunbar made me laugh and cry both had some been hurt by people they loved. And didn't think Sage would ever forgive her father. Mama Joella stole my heart in this one.
