A man wakes up on a train and finds himself in an old fashioned compartment on train full of schoolgirls and a woman who appears to be a teacher. The girls are all dressed in old fashioned uniform and in confusion he realizes he too is dressed the same way. Suddenly it dawns him that he has all the memories of a young woman on her way to school after the summer holiday, the year is 1950, but there is no sense at all that the woman is present in his mind. Astoundingly all his own memories are intact. He is, or rather was, a middle aged physician, originally from England who had made his home in California for the past thirty years. From the memories of the girl Jacqueline whose body he now occupies he realizes she was a bully, the most hated girl in the school who only minutes before he awoke and been involved in a fight for which she will surely be punished when she arrives at her destination. He begins to relax, realizing he is simply dreaming and with wry amusement begins to look forward to the point in the dream where he will either wake up of be confronted with the cane. What follows is not what he expects. He is forced to come to terms with the fact that life has changed without going back. He must live the life of a young woman at a period boarding school, facing the challenges of being female and the rigorous corporal punishment meted out to both the young adult he now is and the other pupils. But beyond strict rules, uniforms and discipline, the story is about love, honour and solving the challenges of growing up in a world where he is aware of the future, where he has impossible knowledge of events to come and where he can combine Jacqueline’s talents with his own to change her image from most hated to one of the most respected pupils in the school, all without betraying his real identity when others would conclude he is insane. It is a drama about winning friendships and illegal love in a time when everything was different. It is a story that will make you laugh, cry, cheer and even arouse before it comes to its climax.
So let me start out that I normally do not like erotic novels. This on the other hand, is the exeption to that rule. It took me by storm and ai loved most of it (the erotic parts and the bondage was a bit much, but I still enjoyed it. Jackie is not just a wonderful main character who starts off on a path of redemption, but the music references are lovely. Highly recomend if you want a read about discipline and teenage life in the 50’s britain. The only thing I desire now of this is a sequel.
