Skulduggery by Helen Harper is the third book in her Thrill of the Hunt series and it was absolutely perfect! The action careened through the book, the romance was swoon worthy, the humour was weaved delicately throughout. And the best thing, there was a wee bit of time travel which I always adore. 💗
It had everything I love in an urban fantasy book and a few things I didn't know I needed. This series truly is phenomenal and I urge you all to read it immediately. It is in Kindle Unlimited and it is also available in audio.

Whew! After the first two books in this series, I was concerned I may have found books I actually DON’T like from one of my favorite people and authors. BUT, this installment saved the day, WOOHOOH!!!
The things that have niggled at me before are being worked out and SO many threads come together in this story to deepen and increase our love and understanding of both Daisy and her world. We find out who her biological parents really are, we see what it takes and how to overcome her addiction, and her relationship with Hugo takes off for real! *sigh* I just knew Ms. Harper wouldn’t let us down if we just persevered!
Now, I cannot wait to dive in to the next and final book the minute it publishes!

There were things that I was happy about:
- Daisy finally able to control her magic (you need to read HOW she could do it though)
- Daisy learning more about her birth situation ()
- Daisy and Hugo acknowledged their feelings towards one another
- The answer behind the disappearance of Lady Rose
... BUT, I wasn't satisfied with the whole
Still an enjoyable addition to the series though. Look forward to the final one in September

This third book in this series was my favourite one so far. Daisy is trying hard to train herself physically, magically and to wean herself slowly off her spider's silk dependency. Working with Hugo Pemberville and his team of Prime is hard going, but it will all be worth it in the end!
When she is offered a job, hunting for a long lost magical skull, Daisy enlists the help of Hugo and his Primes and off they go gallivanting around the hills, along with Daisy's two brownie friends, Otis and Hester. These two are the most hilarious sidekicks I have come across!
Daisy is successful in her hunt, but that success is short-lived when she is surprised by a visitor and accidentally triggers the magic in the skull. She ends up some when else and boy does she have a hard time dealing with everything that happens next. However, this trip through time answers so many of Daisy's questions and makes her understand more about her own history and life! I loved finding out about all this and hope that now Daisy knows her own history, she can start to deal with it all in a happier way!
This book was a great read and the love definitely fully blossomed this time! I always knew it would, but I did squeal when Daisy and Hugo finally revealed their feelings for each other! If you are looking for a great urban fantasy with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure along with lots of humour and witty banter, then this series is definitely for you!

Another fun treasure hunt with Daisy and the gang.
'Skullduggery' is full of revelations. Some of them I had already guessed, some I did not, but it was a fun adventure.
The next book should be the last one in the series. I am curious how it will all end up.

I'm feeling too lazy to write a proper review - I'll regret it when I look back and wonder what made me love this series so much! Reading the last three books in 4 days tells you everything you need to know - I haven't read a series that quickly in a very long time.
It clearly scratched an itch I have for well written urban-fantasy.

more like 3.8 stars but i rounded up because of warm fuzzy feels.
the first half started a bit slow for me, and i was a bit disappointed that we kind of glossed over daisy living at hugo's castle. i was actually looking forward to reading about how he would devote care and training to her (basically i wanted the details) and to see daisy really struggle to fight against her addiction, but it was neatly summarized into a couple paragraphs about her just tiring herself through training. and then there was the time traveling plot which i wasn't really thrilled about BUT it led to really poignant and touching moments that i came to appreciate.
it seems ridiculous that things that happen in the past don't really affect the future, but overlooking that, i thought it was so sweet that daisy gets to meet her parents (well she's happy to meet one of them) and to find out the truth. honestly, the big surprises aren't really that BIG and can easily be predicted but it still hit me and so i appreciated it.
i love that in the end, it's the parents who are trying to do their best for their kids (and it was funny that current day hugo and daisy were older than their parents when they go back in time) and it's nice to see certain things come full circle (daisy with the note that hugo pens, daisy and hugo dropping off baby daisy at the hospital her adoptive parents will pick her up at, etc.) and i really appreciated the family nature of this book. it almost read as a finale except we still have daisy's father to deal with.
i know he's being set up as a villain but a part of me hopes that like he's not suuuuper evil and is (in his own twisted way) trying to show parental love idk. but the slow burn is finally taking off and it was definitely a slow burn but i like their underlying friendship.

Daisy Carter is trying to kick her spider silk habit, so a new treasure hunt seems like a really good way of distracting herself from her troubles.
It’s a good opportunity though, and she thinks that it might be a way to help out her friend Hugo.
In the blink of an eye, everything changes, and Daisy finds herself in far more trouble than she expected. With vampires, fiends, and far more trouble than she could have expected, she discovers herself on a road which will answer both hers, and Hugo’s questions.
So many questions are answered over the course of this book, and it’s actually not all a surprise (though I am sure some of it will be) to the discerning reader, but there are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing anyway.
I did enjoy, quite a bit, the linking threads of fate that wove through the story, I always like seeing things match up so beautifully!

Hmmmm….
There was very little down time in this third book, it was very action packed and lots of information told in a pretty clever way. I think the thing that keeps me from liking this more is the time travel aspect. While I thought it was pretty great how Ms Harper gave hints of the time travel aspect, I truly am not buying that their meddling in the past didn’t change anything in the present even though it seems like the future depended on them meddling. My brain hurts trying to rationalize it, so I’ll just accept that it was well done and a very interesting story.
I’m a little confused about Gordon’s involvement, was it his dad who broke Lady Rose’s ward in 1994? Did Gordon know the truth in 2024 and just had to bide his time and keep his mouth shut? Again, time travel seems problematic as a trope, but it was fun. I’m eager to see how this all resolves in the next book and hope I can wait for the audiobook because I enjoy Ruth Urquhart as the narrator.
Please, Ms Harper, will you please discontinue using the filler words? “Yeah, yeah” is in most of your series, and this one has “cumbumbling bullocks” which was distracting for me.

This is a thrilling five-star read. This is number three in the Thrill of the hunt series, and they all build an amazing picture, and make you care so deeply for Daisy that your heart breaks for her. I had a feeling that one of the reveals was what I was thinking, but honestly it still blew me away, there are so many twists and moments that will leave you with your heart in your mouth and wondering what next!! There are so many complex and thrilling characters that there are too many to name, but Hugo must get a special mention as he really has come out of his little toddler self into a man you would be proud to call your own. That being said Hester, Otis and Dutchess will always stay with me, long after the series ends, as they are just characters that you can’t ignore. This storyline deals with drug abuse, and how its not always just straight addiction, it was so nice to see another side portrayed, as usually we just get how it’s the addicts fault, how they are the guilty party, and that’s not life, life is so much more complex.

A fabulous little palate cleanser before I make a star on my book club book.
The back story was predictable, so I was in smug mode when I got it right. However, it was cleverly written.
I liked the time loop that Daisy was destined to go in time. The vampire fights were brilliant, and I felt frustrated for Daisy when she was conned by the police.
Another great cosy read by Helen Harper. It's not one of my favourite series but it's still a big ole cwtch in a book.
Enemies to lovers. Magic. Treasure. Creatures. Time travel. What more can you need!

Daisy is a low elf with unusual powers, which she has turned to drugs to control, for the safety of herself and others. In a moment of desperation, she became a treasure hunter, and acquired two brownie companions during a race to beat celebrity hunter Hugo Pemberville in finding a lost and powerful artifact. Now, she works closely with Hugo and his team on commissioned hunts, but has ended up discovering secrets, as well as treasure.
In this third instalment, Daisy is commissioned to find an ancient artifact, which, it is hoped, will solve a thirty-year-old mysterious disappearance.
These books are so much fun to read, even though they deal with difficult themes. There is so much compassion here, such a celebration of individuality, and a healthy amount of snark and swearing to lighten it all up. The pace is rollicking, the characters are loveable and / or intriguing as needed, the writing is perfection. Go read it, you'll enjoy it!

The third installment in this particular series by Helen Harper and it certainly kept the thrill of the hunt going - even taking us for a wee bit of time travel. I do really like Daisy and I'm glad a cast of familiar characters was back particularly the brownies - I'm rather fond of them - this allows you to feel like you are really part of Daisy's world. There was some revelations in this book that the previous books had foreshadowed and definitely some good solid treasure hunting. I think I did find a few moments towards the end a little too 'neatly tied in a bow - look it's all getting fixed how you would like it' but that didn't detract at all from the overall quality of the story. I would more lean towards 4 and half stars and will absolutely be reading book number four when it is released as this is the one that will wrap up the series. This one is a must read - you will love it just for the change of eras.

Daisy and Hugo embark on a treasure hunt for a golden skull which also crosses over an ongoing storyline of Pemberville's, Hugo's parents missing neighbor Lady Rose. The Pemberville's were the last ones to see Lady Rose alive and it's been speculated they may have had something to do with her disappearance. The good: this edition of the Thrill of the Hunt had some unique turns and twists with a little time traveling, and their nemesis the fiends. Getting to a little more back story on Daisy's biological parentage was great. The not so good: Confusion and violence... Just a lot of action, but our poor heroine and Hugo take the brunt of the violence and hits. This has become a must read series and I am happy that there are so many books already released, I am enjoying listening my way through the magical Edinburgh landscape with Hugo and Daisy.

Book three in the series and can I just say that, "I called it!" I predicted who Daisy's birth mother was back in book one and I was right! Huzzah! But that's not the point...
Book three is all about finding a golden skull, solving the mystery of Lady Rose, unpicking Daisy's heritage, and Daisy getting help (from a super unlikely source) on how to finally get control of her magic without the use of drugs!
The book was interesting, it advanced Daisy's character development and her relationship with Hugo, answered a lot of questions and set up what is sure to be an epic finale for book four!
I love the pace of this series, the humour, the found family and the heart of the characters. Definitely recommend for UF fans!

Ahoy there mateys! This seems to be the favorite of many but was my least favorite so far. Daisy and Hugo try to track down a magical skull and solve a mystery. The mystery was lame and the solution guessed at when it was first mentioned in book one. Daisy finds out who her parents are, she gets off the drugs, and (shock!) Hugo and Daisy get together. Though there is time travel in this with some fun little connections. Those small elements were the best part for me. The big bad is annoying and way too powerful. Frankly the whole world should be dead. Daisy too. I would have liked to see more of Gordon, who is a favorite side character. Treasure hunting is not a big part of this book which is really a disappointment. Arrr!

Often times, it's in book three where I start to bore of the same characters in a series. I have a short attention span, especially I'd subject matter is tough. I've never had that happen with a Helen Harper book, and that flawless record is continuing for this series! She has a way of addressing even serious themes in her books while keeping them from getting heavy and hard to read. I still love the characters and look forward to their journeys and where if will take them. This, like much if Helen's writing is light and fun and keeps me interested until the end. Looking forward to the next chapter in the series!

Every series she writes is spectacular
I don’t know how Helen Harper does it. Each series is better than the last and each book in the series is fantastic. Daisy is back and the treasure this time is her story itself. We find out more about Daisy and her roots as well as the mystery of Lady Rose. Her relationship with Hugo is growing deeper and she is falling for him fast. The treasure team is on a mission and the only thing that stands in their way are some pesky supernaturals. Last weekend saw, there was a huge spoiler and more of that story is told as well. I cannot wait for the final book.

Daisy is living at Hugo’s castle learning swordplay and magic when she’s contacted by the sorcerer Gordon, from the first book, to look for a magic skull that he hopes will reveal what happened to the mysterious Lady Rose.
Daisy, Hugo and his primes go on a short adventure to locate the skull, but once it’s found the real story starts.
There is a fair amount of action, fiends, magic, time travel, slow romance and humour.
This book explains a lot about Daisy’s history as well as some of Hugo’s.
It was a fun, enjoyable read that is hard to review without giving any of the story away but it is another great addition to the series.

Ha, I knew it! Okay, some of it but this is once again another fabulous book with a lot of action, full of humour and suspense, cuteness and some slooooooooooow burning love.
Imaginative and simply wonderful, this book carries our badass heroine, her tiny sidekicks and her partner back through time on the quest to solve a mystery or two.
I loved every single page of this amazing book and am already counting down the days till the fourth and final book comes out. I've read and really loved several of the author's series but this one is my absolute favourite so far!

A really good one
I have loved most of Harper’s work and liked what I didn’t love. The plots are tight and purposeful and even though some of the tropes are to be expected, I have still enjoyed the journey through. While the author obviously indicates that a final book is coming, the series could wrap here and the reader would still be satisfied. It’s not one of those books with a serious cliffhanger which I really appreciate. I think every book should be able to stand on its own without the rest of the series. Kudos to Harper. This is a good one.

Thoroughly predictable
I need to preface this by saying that I appreciate the work that was done; it’s not easy to write a book, and I don’t know if anything that I could create would be better. This installment was much less exciting or enjoyable than the previous two. and the “big reveal “ was a cliched, overdone trope that was accurately predicted within the first 5 chapters. I am fairly certain that my toddler could have predicted what the plot twists and outcome would be. This book didn’t live up to my expectations.

Skullduggery more than pleasant
This is the third book in the Thrill of the Hunt series and is my favourite so far (going to start reading the fourth and final book in a moment). Without giving too much away, I loved the reveals and character development, as well as the Opal Fruits reference.
I’m a big fan of the urban fantasy genre and love Helen Harper’s various series. I particularly appreciate not having to skip pages of ‘fan service’ in the three books I’ve read of this quadrilogy.

I enjoyed this as much as the first two books. The overall story arc moves along, the characters keep developing, and I truly enjoy imagining them all tootling around Edinburgh.
The reveal I suspect we all knew was coming happens, but not how I expected so that was good - I did have a couple of niggles with unanswered questions but not enough to tear me out of the story.
I am really looking forward to the final book!

Such a fantastic story. This author has a way of writing stories that are so magical, in more ways than one, and you feel like you are actually there with the characters. The writing is spot-on, the characters are detailed and complex, and the story line is always decently paced and intricate in it's detail. I loved going on this journey with the characters and I look forward to many more adventure! Well done to the author!

This one was a bit of a slower read for me but I did enjoy the continued challenges Daisy and Hugo face as they treasure hunt--into quite a muddle over Daisy's past. I found the emotions deeper than Harper normally offers later on in the book and enjoyed that insight into the characters, who are usually more one-dimensional and surface-level. I think this book gives a lot of closure while leaving the main conflict open for book 4. A very light-hearted romp of an urban fantasy.
