How do you trust a man who hates you to help prove your innocence?
Life goes from bad to worse for Scarlett Madden. First she's kidnapped from her bed in the middle of the night, then she's accused of betraying her country. When the SEAL she had a one night stand with and hasn't been able to get out of her head since is one of the men to rescue her she thinks everything is going to be okay. But it's not, trouble has followed her home and she doesn't know who to trust.
Navy SEAL Tate Laurier knows what it's like to be betrayed and when he learns the woman who has been haunting his dreams is a traitor he's determined to bring her down. But the more time he spends with Scarlett the less he can see her selling the miracle drug she helped create to her country's enemies. If the two of them can't learn to trust one another then not only will their lives be on the line but a dangerous weapons trafficker will get his hands on a powerful drug.
USA Today bestselling author Jane Blythe writes action-packed romantic suspense and military romance featuring protective heroes and heroines who are survivors. One of Jane's most popular series includes Prey Security, part of Susan Stoker's OPERATION ALPHA world! Writing in that world alongside authors such as Janie Crouch and Riley Edwards has been a blast, and she looks forward to bringing more books to this genre, both within and outside of Stoker's world. When Jane isn't binge-reading she's counting down to Christmas and adding to her 200+ teddy bear collection!
This author is cruel to her heroines She enjoys to endure them physical pain, abuse and abandonment and then act like nothing, this one here is extremely tortured but apparently this is not any excuse for not having sex with the hero later, who by the way treats her like a whore and a traitor. Of course all is forgiven quickly because his mom was a bad bad woman… I’d call her a doormat but I’m really sorry for all the torture she has all the book, I do believe nobody was there for her… really sad
Triggers: torture, abandoned children I even skipped the sex scenes ( I’d throw up) I don’t really care about his past There’s no OW drama because there’s no other woman stupid enough to want to fick this idiot It’s the beginning of a new series but it’s the same 💩 as always and there’s no frikin hope for her
Whew, these two characters kept me guessing and cursing but also rooting for them throughout the book! Scarlett and Tate both came with tons of baggage from their childhood that colored their view of themselves as well as life in general. I loved Scarlett's softer side, but she also had a strength that even she didn't realize she had. Tate was stubborn as a mule and peeved me off more than once but I loved every minute of it. I love the fast-paced action of the story and the growth of the characters. If you want a story that will tug at your heartstrings and an author that will keep you guessing with every twist and turn, then check out Fighting for Scarlett and author Jane Blythe!
Tate's head and heart are fighting, one knows she is guilty, the other is convinced she is innocent, he has always followed his gut...but he was wrong once before and it burnt him. You can see his internal fight is real, poor Scarlett must be so confused - I am surprised she doesn't have whiplash with the conflicting decisions and actions Tate is making! Scarlett is fighting for her life, her freedom and her sanity. She has no idea what is going on, why she has been abandoned or what sort of personality disorder Tate has and it all makes her wonder even if she survives physically, will she still function mentally, or will this be the final test that will break her? Did she survive her "boot camp" childhood to fail now? My heart breaks for Scarlett and her confusion, her desolation and her fears, but even when Tate is being an ass, she never stops defending him or others, trying to keep them safe....even when they don't deserve it! She is so much stronger than she believes and her selfless actions prove more than anything she cannot be a traitor....unless she really is a great actress! I love Prey Security, Eagle is awesome as always, he needs so few words to get his point across. Tate frustrates me, he repeatedly punishes Scarlett for his own fears and it takes him a little too long to man up. Scarlett is a hero, every day of the week and twice on days when Tate is being an ass, because I would have shot him with his own gun before he could once again apologise! So many apologies because he keeps being an ass! A fantastic start to the series and we finished with an unexpected twist and a cliff hanger as we wait for Lucy's book in July. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
If Fighting For Scarlett is any indication, the Athena Team spinoff from Prey Security is going to be remarkable. Jane Blythe knows how to create memorable characters and surround them with fast paced, intensely emotional and tension filled stories. Tate Laurier and Scarlett Madden are two such characters. I freely admit to wanting to head slap Tate on a routine basis for over half of this book. Talk about being pigheaded and judgemental about Scarlett's supposed guilt despite every indication to the contrary. Learning his history mitigated some of it but boy did he frustrate me (which is an indication of excellent writing--evoking strong emotions.) And Scarlett? Wow, talk about stalwart, strong willed, resilient and brave in the face of unimaginable circumstances. She too, like Tate, has a history of emotional abuse and neglect that rightfully rears its ugly head at times. But, mostly she's kind, caring, sweet and self-sacrificing. Having a target on her back continuously puts her in jeopardy and despite Tate's resolve and sometimes misguided attempts to keep her safe, the hardened criminal intent on getting to her keeps succeeding. The upside of it all is that two people who both thought love wasn't in the cards for them, find it with each other. Ms Blythe gives us a tantazling ending that's going to make the wait for the next book in the series interminable.
Another Prey Team. This time we meet the all-female Athena team who’s work is in R&D. Starting with Scarlett’s abduction so events get off with a real bang, which is what I want to do with the 2 protagonists, i.e. knock their heads together and get them talking, honestly to each other! Scarlett is full of self-doubt, and Tate has baggage and issues stemming from past betrayals. It took him a long while to get with the programme and jump into the believing in Scarlett’s innocence camp. Nevertheless, he treats her gently from the beginning, despite his obvious anger! I always enjoy the devious perils Jane gives us in her books and the twists she puts her character through, and this was no exception. Scarlett has some tough times to content with during this book, and Tate slowly comes to believe in her after she demonstrates this by saving him at one point and soon enough, he’s helping her to fight her battles with true vigour and support. There is going to be common enemy in this series, as Prey has a spy in their midst and it’s going to be interesting seeing this play out across the future other books in this new series.
Talk about two people made for each other! That is definitely Scarlett and Tate, they just don’t know it at first. Neglect, indifference, bullying, betrayal - all a recipe for an emotionally stunted adult when treated this way as a child and both Scarlett and Tate has had this to some degree growing up. For Tate he grows up with a complete distrust of love overall so when Scarlett crashes through his life he’s seriously discombobulated as to why he can’t leave her as a “one and done” kinda girl. For Scarlett, she grew up to be a woman with some serious self esteem issues despite the fact that’s she’s a beautiful, successful young woman. She wears her heart on her sleeve, looking for love in a lot of places only to find that the ONE guy she can’t shake from her mind is a man who doesn’t even remember being her. Or does he??? This book was a fun and twisty ride, like dang it Jane Blythe sucker punched me again at the end! You’d th ink I’d learn and expect the unexpected, but noooo Ms. Blythe draws you in with a false sense of security that the ending is going to go one way and she takes you left. Read this book, you won’t regret it!
Wow! Scarlett and Tate both have deep seeded issues from their childhood that has stopped them from reaching out and grabbing the love they deserve. One night together and they can’t forget each other but he never called, no strings, nothing more, but when you can’t forget the “one” it’s something more than one night. When he’s asked to help find Scarlett he realizes she’s the one he couldn’t forget but now he thinks she’s a traitor. These two definitely don’t trust each other and he thinks the worst of her until doubt starts to creep in, but will his belief in her be too late? Can he keep her safe from the man that kidnapped her and tortured her? Finding the mole is beginning to feel like it’s not going to happen until she gets a call and sees for herself and can’t believe what’s happening right in front of her eyes. What a freaking plot twist we have here, never saw it coming. Bravo!! Awesome read!!
In Special Forces Athena Team book one, Scarlett Madden and Tate Laurier have a slight past together—a one-night stand, which is all SEAL Tate could handle. Trauma from their past hinders both lead characters and prevents them from seeking the love they both crave.
I’m going to be honest: Tate annoyed me for the first forty percent of the story. I wanted to give him a swift kick, but a 🤏🏼 part of me understood his reasoning—a very small part. From the beginning, my heart went out to Scarlett and stayed with her the whole way through. She is such a sweetheart and so strong to endure what she did.
Together, these two lead characters have incredible chemistry, and apart from wanting to give Tate a shake 😆 to wake him up, I was cheering for them as a couple.
The drama and action packed into this book are phenomenal, and that ending is fantastic! 😱 but 🤐 no spoilers here! Just a recommendation to read this book. I am looking forward to book two, Fighting For Lucy!
the standard of every book is very inconsistent, you read an okay one and the next will be really shit. then the following seems to be better than the shit, but the next will be back to shit again.
and this book is really shit... the heroine is a fucking doormat and the hero is a bloody asshole. his "little traitor" comment was getting on my nerves, like just shut the fuck up. plus their internal monologue were irritating as hell. the whole execution revolves around the stem of the characters issues and not the problem where the heroine was being set up to be a traitor. there were only glimpse of explanation of what the Prey team was doing to find the person who set the heroine up, the remaining execution was just fillers (their relationship, the sex yada yada) which i don't really care about.
overall, i just felt pissed reading the book. the amount of eye-rolling i did made me think, my eyes might not roll back.
Both scientist Scarlett Madden and SEAL Tate Launier held their one-night stand in their most cherished memories. But he’s convinced Scarlett is scrambling to come up with a plausible excuse to play the sympathetic victim instead of a traitor selling a miracle drug designed for soldiers to a drug trafficker. Though Tate’s part of the team that rescues a terrified and grateful Scarlet from certain death, he’s cold, impersonal and more convinced than ever she’s a terrorist.
Watching Scarlet’s home when she’s allowed to return, in case she’s working with the trafficker when she comes running out, insisting the men have come again to kidnap and torture her but because they didn’t pass Tate. he doesn’t believe her. Tate entertains the possibility Scarlet could be telling the truth and there’s something else is at work. Just as Scarlet believes her nightmare is over, she’s betrayed again! Rating: 3.5stars
Oh my gosh what a an amazing book this was to read. I love Jane Blythe and it seems that every book she writes outdoes the previous. Tate and Scarlett had a long road ahead of them especially as Tate is a confirmed bachelor and is not looking for a HEA with any woman but Scarlett shakes that belief to the core. Both Tate and Scarlett have issues that they both need to overcome and it appears as though they are both willing to live their lives with these issues but their union has left a mark on them both. When Scarlett is in danger and needs protecting Tate is the man who steps up to do all he can. So much drama and suspense seems to follow Scarlett but Tate is there to navigate the road with her. If you have not picked up any of Jane Blythe’s books you are missing out on an amazing read from an amazing author. I am completely hooked and will never look back.
Well once again Jane Blythe has me reading all night! As always this author has the reader constantly guessing as the whirlwind plot twists and turns its way to a happy ending! This is the first book in a new spin-off series from Prey Security and it is great to catch up with characters from other teams in the Prey world. Scarlett and Tate are a great couple and it was a privilege to share their story. Jane Blythe is an absolute master at creating flawed heroes and heroines, who appear all the more believable than some other book characters and this really adds to the enjoyment of the plot. If you want a plot twisting exciting read then look no further than Fighting Scarlett and if you have not already discovered Jane Blythe as an author then you are really in for a treat. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
At the beginning of Fighting for Scarlett I was a little unsure, there was some repetition with their back stories, but I stuck with it, and I am so glad I did. I think Blythe did the repetition thing on purpose, it helped to hit home with what these characters have been through and what they feel. Made me understand Tate and Scarlett, so much better. *chefs kiss* The story itself, was incredible! Fast paced, suspenseful, steamy, and action packed, I couldn't put it down. Scarlett, such a sweet, yet incredibly strong FMC, soft but hard. She's amazing. Tate, manly, strong and guarded. A total badass when he's in soldier mode. I kinda love him. THE ENDING?! MIND BLOWING! I didn't see that coming. Brilliant.
Jane Blythe captivated me with Fighting for Scarlett that I'm determined to make my way through her backlist.
Tate and Scarlett, were they meant to be a couple? I had my doubts at first as I thought he was a jerk and she desperate. Baggage shaped their lives from a young age. Scarlett is part of the Athena team for Prey. The scientists and softer warriors than the rest. Scarlett is kidnapped and framed for being a traitor. Most don't believe her involvement but her rescuer can't see what's in front of his own face. Battered and bruised and naked she is obviously a victim. Just when you think Scarlett can't possibly be hurt again the story takes a twist and sends her back to the beginning. I think this author likes to prove how strong women are :) Can't wait for the next book as we got a hint at the end of this one. Their peril has only just begun.
Scarlett is one of a kind. A scientist rather than agent, she works for Prey and they and she are under attack. Kidnapping, set up for betrayal, believed to be a traitor by the military, blown up, shot at, and then kidnapped again… plus some torture and lots of self doubt….scarlett is put through the ringer. We have the amazing Susan Stoner team with Rex, Rocco, etc. on board and they help Tate save Scarlett more than a few times. The mole is still not known by the end and the cliffhanger was a doozy showing another Athena member in danger and the return, very unexpected return, of someone from Scarlett’s past. I couldn’t put it down and am jumping into the next one very soon!
When Scarlett is branded a traitor for supposedly selling a miracle drug, ex seal Tate steps up because he doesn't want to believe the lies.
Trouble finds these two even catching them by surprise. The connection between them is explosive, loads to friction, loads of guilt misplaced of course, but loads of romance.
Fast paced, honest and extremely well done on all levels. The plot, layers of story and non stop action had me so enthralled and reading it in one go wasn't a problem because i didn't want to put it down.
What a book to start this series with. It was fantastic. Boy, Tate and Scarlett's tale was one horrific ride after another. They both grew up in loveless childhood homes so growing up all they wanted was to find love although Tate was not interested, that's all Scarlett craved. Poor Scarlett was framed, kidnapped and once rescued had to clear her name before she spends the rest of her life in prison. Even though Tate doesn't trust Scarlett he is bound and determined to keep her safe. I was so excited to read Tate and Scarlett's story. It was as good as I thought it would be. This author kills it with every book. I highly recommend this story, It truly was fantastic.
Someone is framing Scarlett making it look like she is ready to sell Prey secrets!
Scarlett is strong, caring and intelligent. But the leader of an arms cartel wants the formula she and her team are working on. Tate has trust issues and is toxically vunerable until he can work through his issues. You just want to yell at him until he gets his head in order. But once he does, he's an awesome protector all around.
This book is actioned packed, twists and turns, kidnappings and torture. Can't put it down! This is the first of an intertwined series. I'm looking forward to the next book!
Scarlett Madden is part of Prey's Athena Team which consists of four women who work at Prey's lab.
One night Scarlett is kidnapped and taken to Mexico where she is interrogated about a new drug that her team has been working on. She refuses to give up anything and is tortured and when that doesn't work she is drugged with some type of drug that drives her crazy.
On the flip side, it appears that Scarlett has turned due to some emails that were discovered. Prey enlists a Seal Team to go in and rescue Scarlett and bring her back for questioning.
The Seal Team includes a man that knows Scarlett as they spent a night together months back; Tate Lauerer. He is so angry that he has feeling for someone that would turn on their country.
I won't go into anything further, just know this is a tragic, emotional read with some tough subject matter.
But saying that I would recommend this book as well as the remaining books in the Athena series.
I really enjoyed this book, poor Scarlett what she went through. Such a sweet soul, so brave and strong. I didn’t warm to Tate for a while, I feel like he let Scarlett down and he should have trusted his instincts more. But he did come round in the end! As per usual with Jane’s book a great suspense element running through with fantastic characters. It’s always good to see previous favourites appearing. The end of the book has already captured my attention and I can’t wait to Fighting for Lucy.
Fighting for Scarlett is book 1 in the new Athena Team series from Jane Blythe. Scarlett is kidnapped in the middle of the night and framed for being a traitor. Tate and his team are sent to retrieve Scarlett. He thinks she is a traitor and doesn't know what to believe. These two definitely have some intense chemistry. This was such an exciting fast paced read. Jane has us on the edge of our seats with the non stop action and suspense, and that ending... I cannot wait for more of this awesome series.
Scarlett has been let down her whole life. She just wants to be loved. Scarlett has been kidnapped. To top it off, it looks to her employer that she is traitor. Tate doesn't believe in love. He had a one night stand with a woman but can't stop thinking about her. Tate has just been told that the woman he can't stop thinking about is a traitor and he is sent in to rescue her. Everything Tate has thought hus whole life, now he is second guessing it all. Especially love. Scarlett has been kidnapped again!! Will Tate find her?
I don't know if I want to applaud or yell at Jane for making me swear from the get go. Oh my! If she wanted to evoke absolutely frustration from her reader at Tate, she did so successfully! I was raging at him throughout the book. Scarlett broke my heart for all she endured yet I wanted to yell at her to stop doubting herself. So much emotions as I read through the suspense & chemistry! Looking forward to the next book! Honest review!
Scarlett Madden and Tate Laurier kick off this new series - and what a start to a new series! Scarlett suffered so much, kidnapped, drugged, beaten and false accusations. I was so mad at Tate throughout the book, but in the end he and Scarlett are perfect together. Like all of Jane's books, it's non-stop action and so many twists. I can't wait for the next book - especially with the cliff-hanger at the end.
Its time again for us to fall in love with another team from Prey Security. These girl bosses aren't the usual solider types but have to fight all the same. Jane always gives us a great story and if you like plenty of angst this book is for you! Scarlett and Tate have an interesting journey that may or may not end in HEA. However, they do learn about themselves of this journey fraught with danger and maybe love. I read this in one sitting because I could not out it down.
Normally I love these books but this one was a struggle. Calling the FMC a pushover would be an understatement. She forgives everything so quickly and easily there’s no tension or conflict. And don’t get me started on how she’s supposed to be some brilliant scientist and never once uses her brain for anything
The set up for the next book is done well. Fingers crossed it’s better than this.
Oh my, such a dark read. Poor Scarlett had to put up with so much. Betrayal, kidnapping, drugged, beaten, and thought to be a traitor. Tate thought Scarlett betrayed her team and her country, so he was really mean to her. Scarlett felt so alone. Couldn't put down, read in one sitting. Such an exciting ending, can't wait for the next book in the series.
I‘m already in love with the Prey Athena Team and can’t wait to read more of their stories. So many things happening, so many feelings of betrayed, loneliness and anxiety coming up for Scarlett. The past mixing with the present. There are so many twisted incidents that keep this story exited. And the cruel plot in the end keeps me anxiously waiting for the next book.
I wanted to hate Tate. But I fell in love with him. Scarlett and Tate both have relationship issues stemming from their childhoods. There are lots of twists and turns, kidnapping, explosions and some seriously hot scenes. Great start to a new series. Looks like they're going to be able to be read as stand-alones but have a story arc that runs through them all.
Fighting for Scarlett was amazing. I couldn't put it down. Jane Blythe pulls you in from the first page. I wasn't a fan of Tate at first but he grows on you with how much he cares about Scarlett, if only he believed her innocence from the start. If you are looking for some non stop action and some romance this is the book for you.
