The hearth and its color-changing flames have made that abundantly clear, but apparently the “they” could be anyone: whoever just got nailed by Flora’s protection wards, the human strangers in town with their fae-like markings, the rival coven, or even my own family.
Evidence suggests they’re all hunting for a powerful magic cache… and I’ve got the biggest one in town hiding in my farmhouse crawlspace.
Redbud isn’t safe and its top defender wants nothing to do with me.
Good thing I decided to adopt a werewolf.
It’s a tenuous alliance at best, and he’ll have his paws full keeping the threats at bay while I unravel the last clue of how to finally destroy the curse on the Hawthorne grimoire. My friend’s past is the key to my future, but only if she overcomes her fears and tells me before my own past catches up to me.

A Grimoire Grump is the fourth of Misty and Sawyer’s adventures in this novella series, Homesteader Hearth Witch. *This book contains PG-13 spice*
Another fun one in the Homesteader Hearth Witch series. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the previous ones: there was a lot of movement in the story, all the seeds planted previously were picked up and used, and I really enjoyed reading all about the interpersonal relationships.
Arthur for the win, but damn Mr Wolf is a very close second.
Evil cliffhanger. Off to look for the epilogue now and then fingers crossed for a speedy publication of the next book!
I would have appreciated an ePUB file for ARC readers, instead of a A4/letter sized PDF that was hard to read. Came across almost as a bit “unwelcome”!
I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
I've been loving this series ever since the first paragraph, of the first book, and each book published in the series only gets better - but THIS book has jumped at least three steps higher!
From the first word, to the very terrifying last, I was totally fixated, wanting things to be better for poor Misty, in her search for a way to get the demon half-heart, off of her Family's Grimoire!
It didn't help that she and Arthur weren't exactly on talking terms now, but at least she still had those wonderful friends from the Crafting Circle to rely on.
But, when a group of creepy people turned up in town, showing far too much interest in anything Magic, but especially in a Witch of great Power, Misty knew that her time in Rosebud was going to end, and very soon.
In the meantime Daphne, the partial Druid, who worked part time in an animal rescue shelter, asked Misty to take on a stray dog that had turned up in the area, and was caught and handed in to the shelter.
As Misty actually needed some protection on the farm, due to a large band of Coyotes turning up in the area, she agreed, with Sawyer, her Familiar Cat's reluctant permission.
But, when she put away her pride, and asked for the help of those three wonderful Ladies of the Crafting Club, to form a five-pronged Hunting Spell, so that she could trace the Demon whose half-heart was attached to the Family Grimoire, and the Ladies immediately went over to her home, Fern, the Garden Gnome, recognised the Dog for what it was - and Misty's life became infinitely more complicated!
This book was a truly epic read.
There was so much packed into it, and I loved that the Ladies stood by Misty, especially after she told them the truth about her reason for being inng there - they are true friends, indeed!
But I'd better warn you - the last part of this book will have you sizzling, & terrified, at the same time! Lol
Arthur, our very favourite Lumbersnack, goes full on with Misty 'fffuuuueeeeeee!' lol
But, the book ended on a real, terrifying, cliffhanger but, fortunately, the fifth book in this series: 'Muddled Magic', is due to be published by the wonderful Author, Kat Healy, on 26th June!
I THINK I can hold on until then, to find out, if what I suspect is after her, has finally tracked her down!
Until then, I have thousands of eBooks to read - my neighbour downloaded 10,000 eBooks onto my External Hard Drive, the other day, while rescuing stuff off my demised old Laptop - but I'm actually going on to yet another of my favourite Author's newly published books, which is Book Two of her latest Beaufont, series which is called 'The First Beaufont', and the book is: 'The Lost Empress'.
I fell in love with Sarah's Beaufont family, and have followed them from the very first book, of the very first series: 'Unstoppable Liv Beaufont'.
But I first came across Sarah's work, when she co-authored a couple of series in the Kurtherian Universe, with Martha Carr, and Michael Anderle.
I've since read everything she's written, and I loved it all, but the Beaufonts are definitely my favourites, so, I'm going to finish this review of Kat Healy's equally amazing book, then, once I've finished 'The Lost Empress', I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!

It's now Tuesday, 11th February, 2025, and Ive just finished this re-read.
I'd forgotten how intense this fourth book of the Homesteader Hearth Witch series really is!
I've gone from melting heart sweetness, to abject terror, as I read it, and it certainly gave me an emotional workout! Lol
As usual, on this read through of what's becoming my all time favourite series, I looked for mentions of food and drink, and I certainly found some!
Being British, a lot of the dishes mentioned are either new to me, or I've only heard of them, never tasted them but, when Kat does release her Cookbook, I'm hoping that both the 'Better Than Sex', chocolate tray bake is in it, plus Shari's favourite comfort food, her: 'Tater Tot Casserole', is in there fore to try it out!
Now, as 'A Grimoire Grump' ended on a real cliff hanger, I'm going straight to read Book Five: 'Muddled Magic', to find out what happened next!
Once I have done, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this re-read, especially as there's no gap in between the reading, as there was the first time around! Lol

It's now Monday, 21st April, 2025 - that's Easter Monday!
I've just finished my 3rd read of A Grimoire Grump', & loved it even more this time, than the previous 2 reads.
There's something really special, in being able to read the majority of a series one book straight after another and, though I'm still waiting for the final book, 'Twisting Twilight', to be published, I really don't mind, as the publication of the penultimate Book 9: 'A Filigree Key', was published at the end of March (28th), so I have that to 'officially' read for the first time! lol
but A Grimoire Grump' was truly a wonderful read, & I spotted little things that I really didn't have time to, on my 2nd read, so that was a true bonus for me.
But, I'm really eager to go on to Book 5: 'Muddled Magic', to see just how Meadow and her friends will deal with one surprise after another!
So, I'm off to start reading it, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know if I spot anything else new, that I missed before!

4.5* OH MY GOD!!! Shari's past, Arthur's beast, everything with Lewellyn and that ending???? I mean seriously her cliffhangers are CRIMINAL. I need answers! 🤯🤯🤯❤️
I am fully invested in this series. I feel like this book might be a bit on the shorter side but boy, does it pack a punch! The action is more pronounced. The characters have developed well as the series continues, showing more of their emotions, beliefs, unique personalities, and abilities. Secrets become revealed, pacts are made, and people are betrayed. We finally get some more lumbearsnack action, as the tension snaps between Misty and Arthur. Everything in this series has become so intense in this book. I am left on the edge of my seat, waiting for book 5!
Features: 🔮 Misty adopts a farm dog that's actually a werewolf.
🍏 A group of magic hunting humans are trying to find our herorine.
🔮 Found family that comes together to help Misty.
🍏 A very protective yet cinnamon roll bear shifter.
🔮 The sweetest romance out there. I was awwing and swooning. 🥰
Overall, I loved this book. I was talking with the author earlier and she said this one was her favorite, and I'm inclined to agree that it's my favorite too. It's incredibly cozy with multiple heartwarming scenes as well as laugh out loud moments. The action scenes were great. Loved the romance finally forming with her shifter, and the gnome is hilarious.
One of the characters does seem to have ptsd from being a demon's bride, but it is perfectly written. Nothing that would be triggering as its depicted in very, very vague terms (think a few word sentences without descriptions). It's respectfully done and very accurately portrayed. Even the character's mannersims with the constantly trying to keep busy and having trouble answering simple questions due to her brain is very accurate. Love that she is surrounded by friends that support and respect her boundaries. Job well done to Kat Healy!
Is it late? Yes. Am I going to start the next book in the series now? Definitely yes.🖤
Misty and Sawyer are hard at work prepping for what or who comes next regarding the stolen grimoire. They are both educating themselves and training. The biggest question regarding the grimoire now, whose heart actually fuels the curse???❤️🔥
Of course we can’t just have any downtime to prep for impending doom. There are magic hunters in town. Seems like they are drawn to the magical vibes and the white light from Misty’s moon flower bath in Sourdough Troubles.🛁
So in order to keep everyone on the farm safe, Daphne brings Misty a Farm dog… oops a werewolf. Thankfully Misty is a kind hearted hearth witch who can’t turn away the help.
The twists and turns of book 4 of The Homesteader Hearth Witch will not disappoint. You’ve got the grimoire, the grumpy werewolf and a lumbearsnack to keep you on your toes!🐻
Kat’s books are just like in Goldielocks, the book length is just right! Perfect for a nice cozy read and ummm thank you for the belt scene! I know I’ll sleep great thinking about that!💤
The ending left me so excited for Muddled Magic, book 5! The hearth is preparing us for something BIG!!! 🔥
Thank you to the author, Kat Healy, and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this book.
Book 4 in the series. Ok so Meadow has settled in to her new way of life, however temporary. The pixies are doing fine but she needs to make sure they will stay warm in the winter. The hobs are also doing great, if slightly overprotective of their chickens and brew. Meadow is in with the crafting circle, even if they know she’s not telling them 100% and one of them is withdrawn and only talking through her slightly eccentric crafts. They helped her out when she got poisoned, her cat is slightly more of a familiar and she has a clearer understanding of the grimoire and just what is going on with the family book of magic she stole to save her family. But something has found her - her hearth is telling her so. Is is the magic hunters with their weird trapped fae cat-shaped tracker? Is it the big unknown mass of magic that she detects on the edge of her homeland? Is it the new pet guard dog she agrees to take in - wait is that a werewolf?
This fourth adventure will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through as you follow the next fantastical steps in Meadow’s journey!
It’s a wilddddd magical rollercoaster of a ride for Meadow Hawthorne - her friends finally know her real name, after she revealed it due to a series of dire circumstances that requirement their help and support. She won’t risk them and they need to know what is coming.
Nothing is halfway for Meadow. Magical, madly skilled friends who will support her in saving her family, yes. A hot hunky shifter lumbersnack named Arthur whom Meadow adores, yes. Helping a werewolf who returns the favor when she needs it most, yes - and a biggggg bad nasty magical on its way to do her in - oooo magnificent moon in the heavens, sadly, YES!
Gotta read this one - it’s a magical rollercoaster ride for all aboard, including sweet sassy Sawyer her loyal kit who adores Meadow and fights tooth and claw to keep her safe, along with the hobgoblins and all the locals.
Excellent book, great series and a totally worthwhile read
This is a great series. The suspense is building and the magic is growing. I really recommend this series!
Amazon synopsis: They’ve found me.
I am loving the heck out of this story!! And finally something happened between Misty and Arthur! Ahhh! This book was more action packed than the first three and I really enjoyed it.
We’re finally getting closer to getting the curse off the grimoire and Misty is FINALLY letting her friends help her and her new guard wolf, lol. Wolf, not dog. A badass shifter but, also really kind. The fight scenes where him and Sawyer (her bonded cat) are saving each other, ugh I got teary eyed. Also speaking of shifters. I KNEW Arthur was a bear shifter. I mean it was obvious with all the bear claw jokes lol but, it’s finally confirmed.
I can’t wait to see where the 5th book takes us! This book had me laughing on and off the whole time and really sucked me in. I’m so excited to get more answers and keep going with this storyline!
Book 4 has Misty getting a dog which turns out to be a wolf shifter that is trapped after going to Floras farm. She's being tracked by those looking for high powers. She gets the crafting group together to help her wind some spells together and layer them for a tracking spell.
As a continuation on in the series this was probably the darkest of the cozy romance witchy vibe going on. I really enjoyed the addition of the wolf shifter and how that affected the love interest of Arthur in this book. Also loved figuring out finally what Arthur shifted into but it added more questions on to the necklace that he has around his neck and what he actually is. And of course this left on another cliffhanger.
This was a captivating book. The first lines grabbed my attention and I was off and running in this world. I had a truly enjoyable time reading this book, in fact I have had an amazing time reading this series. I am so glad I found this author as the stories really do it for me, there's just something about them that makes me want them more. And now I have to wait again. Book five please hurry along!
Misty’s journey continues and often times it feels like two steps forward and one step back. But it’s fun seeing the progress that she makes as time goes on to unravel the mystery and the deepening bonds of her, the townsfolk, the jobs, and her kitty. I think the story definitely had a lot more funnier moments than the prior books. I’m very much enjoying the series and can’t wait for book 5.
The plot and action really pick up in this book. We see new enemies, a possible new ally and some progression in the relationship between Misty and her lumbersnack. Grumpy and Sawyer together are hilarious. Ends on a HUGH cliffhanger so I'm eagerly waiting for the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another continuation of the story arc. Misty is preparing for the confrontations that are coming down the pike while dealing with the problems that manifest. The romantic tension with Arthur is (finally) coming to a head and we have a new, and quite interesting, character added to the mix.
Just a few answers in this book but at least enough to keep the reader (namely me) from wanting to hurl the kindle across the room. Healy does an excellent job of keeping that fickle line between intrigue and outrage taught. And Daphne! Woohoo! Go girl. Shari broke my heart. Our fearless gnome kicked arse. A delightful read.
I usually don't like a book ending like this. I understand it's a series, but the other books all had a satisfied ending. This one leaves me needing more. If you plan on reading this book, be prepared to get the next one also. This is a great series. I highly recommend it.
The story of Meadow is really ramping up to what seems to be a climactic conclusion. There’s so many cool elements to the storyline that the author has added. Love this series!!
This was another great addition to the series. Kat Healy has provided us with endearing characters while the story line was engaging. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I live these books Misty is trying to do the right thing with her family and what she thinks is the right thing with Arthur. Things heat up in this book ad her family gets closer to finding her and she gets closer to answers.
Would have a lower rating without Flora, and a higher rating without Arthur.
I have no time for pouty abusive men and I really hate it when as soon as they stop pouting the women fall into their arms. It's just gross. There was no excuse for Arthur's behavior and I'm not okay with it.
again, love the magic of the hearth changing colors, a mood ring but on steroids. everything about this series just has me reaching for more. each book is so easy to read and just keeps me going. also..THEY FINALLY KISSED!!! I literally cannot wait for more
Another fun installment of this series. I love Misty and her friendships. Arthur is so kind and supportive to her. Readers are learning more and more of the back story and intimating to the future.
