A fiery rock star and a ruthless businessman battle to expose each other’s secrets.
The only family The Painted Daisies singer and harpist Fiadh Kane has left in this world is her band. When their leader―her best friend who stood by her through the worst―is killed, she’s determined to find who did it and make him pay.
Fiadh is convinced the band’s new label owner knows more about the murder than he’s shared. She plans to reveal Asher’s skeletons by any means possible, even if it means using the magnetic lure blooming between them in ways she never expected.
Asher Riggs is paying penance for the sins of his youth. Raising his daughter and securing his company’s future are his only priorities. He certainly won’t be giving in to the wild temptress of a musician who lights a fire in his blood that’s a convoluted mix of lust and fury.
When a freak snowstorm forces Asher to take the brazen rock star to his home, the ice outside can’t tame the heat that ignites…or the shadows that come lurking.
But if they can’t find a way to trust each other with their secrets and their hearts, they’ll only be left with misery when the blizzard passes.
With an all-female rock band and the alpha heroes who steal their hearts, this fast-paced series might just leave you breathless. Each full-length novel has a different HEA couple and a completed suspense plot, but the series is best read from book one to keep track of the overarching murder mystery. Are you ready for it?
Award-winning author LJ Evans lives in Northern California with her husband, child, and the three terrors called cats. She's written compulsively since she was a little girl, often getting derailed from what she should be doing by a song lyric that sends her scrambling to jot a scene down.
A former first-grade teacher, she now spends her days deep in the pages of romance and mystery with a bit of the otherworldly thrown in. Her favorite characters are those who live resiliently—stubbornly and triumphantly getting through this wild ride called life with hope, love, and found families guiding the way.
Her novels have won multiple industry awards, including CHARMING AND THE CHERRY BLOSSOM which was Writer’s Digest’s Self-Published E-book Romance of the Year.
Green Jewel is book two in The Painted Daisies series by L.J. Evans. While I loved the first book, Sweet Memory, Paisley’s story, I am head over heels crazy in love with this one. In my opinion, this is the best book L.J. has ever written. It’s fast paced, suspenseful and just plain amazing. I could NOT put it down.
Fiadh Kane is twenty six years old and is one of the talented members of the world famous all girl’s rock group, The Painted Daisies. Fiadh is from Ireland and was closest to Landry, her band mate, before Landry’s murder in the previous book. For nearly two years, Fiadh has obsessed over the unsolved murder of her friend. And in her mind, she is certain of who did it and will do whatever it takes to prove it. Including hiring a private investigator to dig up anything there is on him, the now owner of her band’s label.
Asher Riggs is thirty years old and is co-owner and president of Ridgeway Media Industries. Asher has been entranced by Fiadh since he first laid eyes on her. As soon as his company purchased the label that managed The Painted Daisies, everything went wrong when Landry was killed. Then, Paisley’s stalker when they resumed recording again. The band is on the cusp of starting their brand new tour and Asher is determined to do whatever it takes to make it a success. But when they are hit with a freak snow storm in Boston, he is forced to flee with Fiadh to his home to wait out the storm.
Both Asher and Fiadh have secrets. But in taking Fiadh home, she is going to learn the darkest parts of his life he has kept hidden. But even more than that, Fiadh learns that Asher is not at all the man she thought he was. That he is carrying so much guilt, paying the price for every thing that has gone wrong in his life. That underneath that cold outer layer he shows everyone else, there is a kind, caring man capable of so much love. And Asher learns that Fiadh is not the wild party girl she pretends to the world she is, but is someone that has been repeatedly abandoned by those that should have loved and supported her. That she has no one but her band mates to call family.
“He didn’t just desire her. He wanted every last piece of Fiadh Kane to belong to him, even if it left him cracked and bleeding in the end.”
As Asher and Fiadh are waiting out the storm at Asher’s estate, it seems that danger has followed them. Could it be Landry’s killer? Or someone else from their pasts wanting to hurt them? There are dark corners around every turn in the huge mansion. Is it only a matter of time until whoever is hiding takes what he wants?
I need more stars for this book. Five just isn’t enough. I loved both Asher and Fiadh. Both were such a surprise to me as I got to know them. Especially Asher. I loved the impact Fiadh had on Asher and his family. And I loved watching the trust and love grow between Asher and Fiadh. This was such a fantastic book and now I can’t wait for more in the next book, Cherry Brandy. If you haven’t started Sweet Memory yet, now is the time so you will be all ready to meet Fiadh and Asher in this book. I hope you love them just as much as I did!
“You’re not alone anymore.” There are still three more books to go in this series and I already know Fiadh and Asher cannot and will not be beaten for me. This was a compelling story of letting go of the mask you hide behind to find the one you’ve always wanted but never knew you could have.
”She hated the way her body burned everywhere his eyes landed almost as much as she hated the idea of him completely.” Asher is described as a Gothic hero, and I can totally see that. He’s guilt-ridden, he carries so much on his shoulders when he shouldn't. I mean, OK, he is wealthy, but who would want him? Maybe he’s cursed. But that doesn’t stop him from looking at Fiadh. The woman he can’t have.
”He needed to get her back to the hotel and out of his space before he did something he’d regret. Kill her. Kiss her. Kill her by kissing her.” Fiadh was very relatable. The way she puts up her shields and hides who she is. The way she gives everything she is to everyone, but neglects herself. When push comes to shove, she’s always alone. She’s learned to live that way. But maybe that doesn’t have to be the case anymore.
”He was at the door, having moved in the darkness, and her mind filled with images of gothic vampires again. Asher would make a phenomenal one.” Asher’s company bought The Painted Daisies’ record label before disaster struck. When they lost Landry (full story in the previous book), Fiadh became convinced he had something to do with it. That he was the one behind the unsolved murder of her best friend. And she set out to prove it, come hell or high water.
”It was Fiadh’s real, slightly crooked smile. A smile he’d spent years longing to see again while hating himself for wanting it.” She can’t stand him, but her traitorous body wants him. And when a blizzard hits and they’re stuck, he takes her to his family’s home. An estate where he has his dad and his daughter, as well as his found family. Because not all family is blood. And once they’re in close quarters, the thing that’s pulling them together becomes a lot harder to ignore.
“Can I kiss you?” I'm a sucker for heroes who fall first, and Asher most certainly does. It takes Fee longer, and it's the small details. The way he is with people at the estate, with his daughter. The way he wants to shield everyone from everything, even at the expense of his own happiness. Maybe his icy exterior isn't the man he really is, and she just needs to truly see him.
"They stood that way for a long time. No words. Just arms around each other as if it would be enough to seal up the cracks and scars." Stuff in both their pasts is creeping up on them and affecting their present. It sometimes feels insurmountable, but the truth is that it isn't. Not with the right person beside you. It will take them a lot, though. This is a slow-burn romance, but their HEA is more than worth it.
"Tell me what you want, Fee,” “You. Your fingers. Your tongue. All of it. Every piece.” Once they give in, a new world opens up. A world where anything is possible if they're truly honest with each other. No secrets, no holding back. Whatever comes. And trust me, there's stuff coming their way.
"I can take it. I can take every inch and every secret. Every dark wish and every forgotten promise." Fee helps him see he doesn't need to carry everyone else's pain and that she's there to share the load. Asher shows her that he loves everything about her, even the things she's tried to hide. They boost each other up and give each other strength.
“For as long as you want me, you’ve got me,” They were both surrounded by people, yet alone. No one would ever come for them, and everyone would leave. Until someone stayed, without any intention of ever leaving.
A brooding alpha billionaire with secrets and burdens. A sassy and fierce rockstar with her own scars. And an epic story of love, loss, music and healing! Green Jewel by L.J.Evans has captured my heart instantly! This enemies to lovers boss employee romance is an unputdownable read with soul deep feels, slow burn chemistry and heart stopping suspense.
The Painted Daisies are still healing from the two tragedies..murder of Landry Kim and the attack on Paisley Kim. Fiadh Kane is determined to find who is behind this and she feels their band's new owner Asher Riggs has something do with it. Asher has to make the band successful again as this is his last chance to show that he isn't just an heir, he is a great business man on his own. He has his own demons and he is all over the place. And Fiadh is challenging him at every step. When they gets snowed in and have to stay in his family mansion for few days..Fiadh gets to see the other sides of this man..and may be..just may be..she has been wrong. To the point of falling in love. But the enemies are everywhere.
Third person pov is not my favorite but this series is proving me wrong. L.J. Evans writes in a such a beautiful heart wrenching way that I don't care about POV. Fiadh has two faces. One is of the impulsive, reckless and ever sexy bisexual rockstar. The one she shows the world and at the beginning, to Asher. But she has a sad and lonely face with a heart that constantly wants a person to call her own and to love her. Asher gets to see this side slowly. Her past has Scarred her and this band is all she has. But the grumpy controlling ahole billionaire shows her that she deserves so much more. Asher has a tragic history with women. He may show this cold heartless personality to everyone but like Fiadh, he has this broken side. Where he blames himself unnecessarily. Where he punishes himself for the crimes he didn't commit. Fiadh is the first person in Years who made him feel something other than the overwhelming restlessness, anger and helplessness. The chemistry was there from the first touch. The enemies to lovers tension only added fuel to the fire. Asher needed someone like Fiadh to make him whole and happy again. He is the missing part in her heart too. I am head over heels in love with Fiadh and Asher. Oh the way they do this slow dancing, moving around their desires and emotions, making it messy and yet so beautiful..my heart cannot take it. The Daisies are becoming one of top favorite group ever!
This book was absolutely AMAZING! I love any and everything Irish so it was easy for me to fall in love with Fiadh! It took me a little bit to warm up to Asher’s character, but when you figure out why he is the way he is, you will too! Tropes- single dad rockstar romance Triggers- neglect, death of a loved one, attempted SA, depiction of mental illness, violence I can’t wait for book three! I can’t wait to be back with the Painted Daisies!
I know this is just book 2 of the 5 book series but it very well be my most favorite! Asher has the weight of the world on his shoulders and it doesn’t take long to understand why he comes across the way he does. Fee has everyone else’s best interest at heart and often puts others needs above her own. LJ Evans has such a way with words that the characters emotions become your own and before you know it you are fully immersed in the story. Then there’s Wren….what a great character she is….there’s so much I love about her and I loved her love of Nancy Drew because it brought me back to my childhood and my love of those stories too. The suspense, chemistry, characters, and story will leave me thinking about this one for a long time. I couldn’t love it anymore….and I really appreciate the avoidance of the 3rd act breakup….Fee’s heart wouldn’t have been able to handle that and mine wouldn’t have either. Now can we talk about Angel?!?
Green Jewel (Painted Daisies #2) Fiadh Kane and Asher Riggs romance is beautifully crafted. The writing style is compelling and unforgettable. The characters are engaging and suspense at its best. Love this edition to the series. I can't wait to read book three. Excellent mystery plot weaved into each couples story. Highly recommend reading this angsty series and anything from this highly talented contemporary romance writer with a splash of suspense every time.
4.5 This is the first book of this series that I’ve read (I started with this one cus book 1 sounded like a MAJOR bummer), and I really enjoyed it!!! I’m looking forward to reading through the end of the series.
‘Heartache and sorrow hung over her so deep it bled through every vein.’
We fell in love with the girl band, The Painted Daisies in book one: Sweet Memory, which featured Paisley and Jonas and set this suspenseful rockstar romance series up so well. Each book in this series will feature a different band member. Well, let us tell you, LJ Evans really cranked it up in this follow-up: Green Jewel, which is the second book in this series and follows Fee, the feisty bighearted Irish singer and the standoff-ish and ruthless record label owner, Asher. Wow. We were blown away and bloody loved it! This is how you write an enticing slow burn enemies to lovers romance! This Author nailed it!
‘Asher had never witnessed a love that had been perfect or lasting. He wasn’t sure it existed beyond a figment of imagination that chemistry-filled lust created in the human mind.’
Whilst in some respect this series can be read as interconnected standalones, we really wouldn’t recommend it. Not only have both books stolen our hearts but there is also a continual storyline of an unsolved murder. Getting to know these girls, their past, and their struggles makes this series so very special. As a reader you feel a part of their entourage, you get protective, and you want them to each get their happily ever after whilst at the same time uncovering who killed one of their own.
“The cruel reality of grief is that it is unique to each person. A solitary journey. Some people demand to be cocooned in warm embraces, while others rant and rave and storm.”
Fiadh (Fee) is a wonderful character, we felt for her, and saw her loneliness and her immense need to protect the only family she has left her bandmates. She has this intensity about her, ruled by her heart and her fierceness. Sometimes it’s difficult to see through layers of hurt and easy to see what we want to see, and Fee learns this the hard way. We fell in love with her and Asher’s story.
“Don’t hold back, Asher. I can take it. I can take every inch and every secret. Every dark wish and forgotten promise. Don’t hide any of it. Don’t keep even one piece, and I promise I won’t either. We’ll trust each other with all of it.”
Asher was an enigma until he too began to shed his layers of armour. What an amazing man. How anyone could not fall in love with this hard, grumpy-arsed man, well we dare you to go meet him for yourselves. Be still our hearts, his story really broke us. A single dad of a sweet nine-year-old daughter, he’s been through an incredible amount of heartbreak it’s no wonder he guards himself and his heart so well.
‘The harsh, desperate truth burned through him. A truth that couldn’t be denied. He didn’t just desire her. He wanted every last piece of Fiadh Kane to belong to him, even if it left him cracked and bleeding in the end.’
We are completely invested in this emotional, beautiful, heartbreaking, and well-written series, and we say that despite not being fans of third person, so this is huge for us! We ended up loving Green Jewel even more than Sweet Memory, we just couldn’t put it down. We simply can’t get enough, and with the next book: Cherry Brandy releasing next month, we’re counting the days! If you’re a reader who loves enemies to lovers, single dad rockstar romance with suspense, heat, and angst then you’ll love this too. It looks as if this series will cover a plethora of tropes which makes it even more exciting!
“You’ll never have to doubt you’re loved again. I’m going to cover you with it until you almost can’t breathe.”

Green Jewel is the second book in the Painted Daisies series by L.J. Evans featuring a masterful enemies to lovers story full of suspense and twists! Fiadh has made it her mission to find Landry’s killer, as she is always the one who puts everyone else’s needs first, even to her own detriment. An overheard comment and an ongoing clash of personalities has her focused on Asher Riggs with tunnel vision. A forced proximity situation gives them both the opportunity to get to know each other better. Asher is also a broken soul with wounds from his past that he is trying to atone for by taking care of everyone, even though none of it is his fault. As Asher and Fee realize how much they have in common, they can no longer fight the burning attraction that sparks between them. Can this connection turn into something real, or will the danger that surrounds them rear its head before they get the chance?
I cannot express how much I love this book! The world building, the characters, the authentic emotions are all phenomenal! I had no idea from that last book, just how complex a character Asher would be, and I’m impressed! I loved the way that Fee and Asher’s emotional journeys turned out to be very similar, as two broken and lonely people finding their way to each other amid total chaos. The chemistry between them was off the charts steamy, but they also had a heartwarming connection. Wren was an interesting and adorable character, who brought out the softer side in both Asher and Fee. For me, the continuation of the suspense angle was awesome! There are so many twists, angst, drama, action, and questions!! Is there one villain? Two? Who the heck is Angel?! I was riveted to my iPad, angry at any interruption!😂 Five stars is not enough for this! I cannot wait for Cherry Brandy!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐉𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐋 is the second book in The Painted Daisies series by LJ Evans which is Asher and Fidah's story.
Fidah and Asher have butted heads with each other since the day they met. They both have misguided views of each other due to the masks they both wear because of the demons that haunt them. A snowstorm forces them to hunker down together and that may just help them uncover the truth about each other.
Fidah and Asher are the definition of enemies to lovers. The animosity between them burns hot all while you can feel their undeniable attraction. I love how they were able to finally open up to each other and bring each other out of the shadows of their past and into the light of their future together with Wren.
I enjoyed this book more than the last one in the series as it was more focused on the couple and the mystery in their book but also kept the ongoing mystery in the back of your mind. I am looking forward to the next books in the series and cannot wait to see what plays out.
Get ready for... musician (rockstar), workplace, single dad, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, bisexual, slow burn, romantic suspense, and dual third-person point of view.
Content... child abuse (mc, past), violence

When Fiadh (Fee) Kane’s best friend and bandmate, Landry Kim is murdered, she is left alone and the band drifts apart. Fee is determined to find who murdered her friend, and believing their new label owner, Asher Riggs is responsible, hires a private investigator to dig into his past and his secrets. But the private investigator is convinced Asher didn’t do it, so Fee decides to use her own tactics to get to the truth. When Landry’s sister Paisley pulls the band back together after 2 years to finish the tour they quit, Fee sees it as a way to get close to Asher in order to find out the truth. She’ll do anything to find the murderer and keep the rest of the Daisies safe.
Asher Riggs is a cold-hearted businessman who doesn’t care about emotions, he just wants the Painted Daisies back on tour so he can make back his investment in the band. At least that’s who he presents himself as in public. In private he’s fighting his own demons from the past and raising his young daughter on his own. He thinks Fee is a head strong, selfish person who thinks only of herself and not of the band. But he also has an unwanted attraction to the fiery redhead.
When a blizzard forces the two of them together at Asher’s home, the attraction between them grows, as does danger from an unknown source. As the storm rages on Fee gets to know Asher’s daughter and the rest of his family and starts to feel like a part of them. But what will happen when the storm ends? Is the threat to their safety from Landry’s murderer or someone from Asher’s past?
Evans has done an excellent job of weaving the mystery from Book 1, Sweet Memory, into this story. This enemies to lovers, single dad, age gap story had me hooked from the first page and I can’t wait for the next book. While you can read Green Jewel as a standalone, I recommend you start with Sweet Memory, so the mystery and personalities weaved into this book make more sense.
There's no other way to discribe the relationship that Asher and Fiadh have.
Fiadah left her parents home at an early age. her parents didn't agree with her lifestyle choices. The only people in her corner were her best friend Landry, the band she started with Landry and Landrys parent.
Now that her best friend has been murdered, and the person who did it is still running around on the loose, she needs to find the killer and bring him to justice. She had over heard a conversation with the owner of the label they are signed with say, "it's done"! She also heard him say that "he wanted to get rid of a few people in the band."
Asher just purchased this record label. He also purchased another lable and had to let go one of the bands go because of something bad he had done.
Asher always apears to be a hard a$$, He likes things orderly, and for the most part his way. When the band lost Landry they almost fell apart. Asher demanded that they get back in the studio and finish the album they had started or he would sue them.
When they eventually did, it was an all out war between Fee and himself. They were always glaring at each other and she didn't want to listen to him because, he had to be behind Landry's death. He said the words, "It's done". She must bring the killer to justice.
When they get stuck after a winter blizzard hits, he has no choice but bring her home and into his life.
As she gets to know the real Asher she realizes that some where under that cold heart is a man with a lot on his plate and that he isn't the man she thought him to be. The attraction they feel for each other is electrifying.
As the mystery of Landry's death continues, more clues are being dropped.
This series has got me hooked. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Green Jewel is the second book of The Painted Daisies series I think this will be my favourite one. Ms. Evans gives us two people that have you falling in love with, but that love does not come easy. A snow storm throws Fiadh and Asher together and this is where secrets are revealed, truths are told and love blooms. This story is one that is so captivating that I was unable to put it down. Not only to read about the clues that Fiadh feels might lead to Landry's murder but also the relationship that develops between Fiadh and Asher.
Fiadh is one of the band members who has not had the easiest of lives growing up. Her family is the girls in the band and your heart goes out to her right from the start. She and Landry were the closest but since Landry's murder, Fiadh is determined to find her killer and she thinks she has, but has she? After two years the band is back playing but with heavy hearts.
Asher, the billionaire music president is not one that is easy to love in the first book and it took me a while to let him into my heart. He seemed like a cold-hearted person in Sweet Memory, however, as you read Green Jewel you find a man that is carrying the world on his shoulders. He feels that he has caused so much pain that he has to rectify it but at what cost? As time goes by you start to fall in love with Asher. He really has a heart of gold and is one man that even though there is this rough exterior, he truly is sweet, caring and lovable.
The two of them are opposites but somehow they are perfect for one another. There is a chemistry that is evident right from the start but started as hate to love before there were any true love sparks. Add in the banter that went back and forth and that caused the sparks to ignite.
I highly recommend picking up Green Jewel and get lost in their love for one another.
LJ Evans continues her Painted Daisies Series with Fiadh (Fia-uh) and Asher in Green Jewel, and it is SPECTACULAR!!
Fiadh has been one of my favorite characters throughout the first two books so far, and I hope she continues to be as involved in the next three because her spark, snarky attitude, and fiery spirit are a bright spot each day!
I loved her determination to find out who was involved in Landry's murder, her absolute need to protect the rest of her band mates, and stand strong regardless of how it made her look to Asher.
"Then she remembered the look he’d given her as his thumb had slid over her lip, and her lungs forgot to breathe. Both motions, tucking her hair in and the soft caress, had almost been tender. It was difficult to pull both images of him together in her mind. It was like he was two different people." - Fiadh
Asher is a very difficult man to like for a long period in the book in my opinion. He's so harsh with Fee, making her pay for the nightmares caused to him by other women in his life, and the mistakes he made with Krista on his own, it made it hard for me to forgive him, even when he began to show his softer side.
I did like Asher's alpha side when he is uber protective of Fee, and the other people in his life, and so very thankful that Green Jewel takes the time to explain why he is exactly the way he is.
"Fee picked at the theories the authorities had come up with for the attack. It could have been a hate crime because Landry and Fee were both openly bisexual . But the skill it had taken to murder Lan and her bodyguard didn’t scream hate." Fee's ideas as to why the attacks keep happening seem odd to me, there was nothing to indicate a hate crime, but so many people do things for reasons we will never understand.
While Sweet Memory and Green Jewel are interconnected standalones and CAN be read by themselves, you'll get your best understanding, and enjoyment, of the story if you read them together. Green Jewel is a heart stopping enemies to lovers Romantic Suspense and is worth all five stars. I loved every minute, especially when I didn't know exactly where the story was going!! I cannot WAIT for Cherry Brandy!
The Painted Daisies series continues with the emotional story of two broken souls finding a forever home with each other. LJ Evans has created a story steeped in heartbreak, grief and anger while allowing love and laughter to slowly break through the grey clouds.
Asher and Fiadh’s love and protectiveness of those close to them is fierce and they will each do anything for them, sometimes at their own risk or detriment. Fiadh hasn’t moved past her grief and anger over losing Landry. She blames Asher and its heart-breaking that she takes all the risks trying to prove she is right, trying to protect her Daisy family. Asher is protective, caring and doing his best to be everything for everyone. He is paying penance for crimes and mistakes that weren’t his; I loved that eventually Fiadh was able to help him see that the guilt wasn’t his to bear.
“Or maybe we’ll ruin each other a little bit more. Just watching the flames will be worth it.” Asher and Fiadh are hot and intense but chemistry isn’t what they struggle with. What they struggle with is trust - that they can give their heart and it won’t be abandoned - that their true self is enough for someone to stay and love them. I loved watching them move past the superficial layers that they show to the world to find and love the true person underneath.
Despite the darkness that surrounds them there are the most gorgeous heart-warming moments in this book. Times where my chest burst with happiness for the fun and laughter that Asher, Fiadh and Wren had as a family. This is an amazing book and an amazing series that I will continue to recommend.
Green Jewel (The Painted Daisies #2) by L.J. Evans is a contemporary workplace enemies-to-lovers forced-proximity single-parent rockstar romantic suspense story told in third person dual POV. It’s the second book of a series where each book will have a complete suspense plot and an HEA. There's also a mystery that spans the entire series, so it’s best to read in order, starting with book one.
Green Jewel follows the relationship between rock star Fiadh “Fee” Kane, singer and harpist for The Painted Daisies, and Asher Riggs, their new label owner. Fee is determined to find out who murdered her best friend. She’s convinced that Asher had something to do with it, and she’s irritated by the chemistry she feels for him. Fee is willing to do whatever it takes to find out what he’s hiding and get justice for Landry.
When a blizzard rolls in and forces Asher to take Fiadh to his home to weather the storm, she believes it’s an opportunity to get close enough to find the information she’s been searching for. But the threat of danger is approaching, and Fiadh might be looking for answers in all the wrong places.
I loved Fee and Asher’s story! They are both complex, well-developed, likable, and intriguing characters. After meeting them in the previous book, I was looking forward to reading their story and finding out how it all plays out. Green Jewel did not disappoint. I enjoyed getting to know Fiadh better and seeing other sides of Asher. Their story was full of mystery and suspense. I am LOVING this series, and can’t wait to read the next book!
Green Jewel is the second book is The Painted Daisies series by LJ Evans. It follows the band of all female performers known as The Painted Daisies. In Book 1, Sweet Memory, we are introduced to the band and follow it's youngest member Paisley as she falls for the boy from the other side of the tracks. At the end of Book 1 one of their band mates is killed and it tears them down to the core.
In Green Jewel, we get to learn more about the Irish-born member of the band, Fiadh, and delve into her simmering hatred for their label manager, Asher Riggs. Fiadh was already my favorite character from the first book because of my relatability with her Irish heritage and how strong she tries to be for everyone around her. As a woman who only has her band mates as her family, she keeps her emotions locked up tight and lashes out regularly. Asher Riggs is very much the same way and these seemingly "opposites attract" brings all the heat to center stage.
This one was an emotional roller coaster that I wasn't quite prepared for. From the loss of their band member and friend to the fact that both Fiadh and Asher are closed off to letting in love, this is a story that takes you on quite the journey of self discovery. Along with the mystery element of trying to catch the killer from Book 1 and the continued threats against the remaining band members.
A series with a total of 5 books so there are 3 more to come over the next few months! Get in on the adventure now and catch up by reading Book 1: Sweet Memory!
When I read Sweet Memory, I fell hard for the Pink Daisies, and I loved playing Nancy Drew looking for clues along the way. When I read Green Jewel, I felt like I was meeting up with good friends to continue our journey through this mystery. I slid right back into their world, and they welcomed me. What I didn't expect was to fall so flipping hard for Fiadh and Asher.
While I didn't like Asher in Sweet Memory, I couldn't have loved him more in Green Jewel. He's a single dad carrying the weight of the world, and my heart completely broke for all the baggage he carried with him. Seeing his soft and protective sides come out...swoon. He was exactly what Fee needed.
And Fee...what can you say about Fee? She's the perfect fireball with so much emotion and love just waiting to come out. The heartaches of her past made my heart ache, and seeing just how fiercely she loves despite her pain made me fall completely for her. She is such an amazing character with her fiery spirit with her underlying self doubt made her completely relatable. And the way she was able to see past Asher's tough exterior and bring out the loving man within was just everything.
This series continues to keep me captivated with its mystery and suspense. I can't wait for each book to come out so I can play Nancy Drew again. But these love stories...the way they are layered with both the platonic love of the band and the romantic love of each new couple leaves me completely satisfied each and every time. I can't wait for more!
The ones that try to be heartless are the ones who fall the hardest.
In the continuation of this series, the murder of one of the band members remains unsolved. Evans has created two striking characters in this fast-paced and highly mysterious second addition to the "Painted Daisies Series."
Through another reviewer, I became aware that the Painted Daisies were actually introduced in Tripped By Love, an earlier standalone book by L. J. Evans. So, I quickly backtracked between reading the first book and starting this one to find out what extra bits of information I could on the band. It’s certainly not required reading prior to beginning this series but well-worth the extra tidbits.
Evans has upped the intensity in Green Jewel. The drama goes back and forth between the enmity and romance between Asher and Fee, who are both tightly wound individuals. And I particularly enjoyed watching Fee hold the upper hand in the relationship. There’s more heat, mystery and fast-paced action to be found in this enemies-to-lovers trope keeping the interest level at high.
Another first-rate addition by Evans to this series with an undeniable thrill ride! Both books thus far have been a real kick to read with strong storylines and amazing characters filling the pages. And I’ve been totally captured by each one.
I’m eager to get the third fix with Cherry Brandy on May 17, 2023, in which Leyah, the daughter of the Vice President of the United States will be the featured band member alongside her bodyguard.
I really liked the first book in this series, but somehow Fiadh came and stole the show. While Paisley&Jonas have a sweet love story, Fiadh and Asher are like a storm. I must admit that while I loved the chemistry and felt their struggle about wanting each other when they both disliked the fact, this book couldn’t have been as perfect without Wren. Asher’s daughter and their dynamic was not what I expected, he does seem cold and calculating but he loves really deep. Fee is someone I wish I could hug; she’s had a hard time ever since she left her home, but losing her best friend was even harder on her. No one deserves to find love more than her, but with Asher she didn’t only found love, he gave her a family. That was another surprise, his loved ones are an unusual bunch, wouldn’t have guessed about it. The story, in my opinion, can be read as a standalone, but some facts would be confusing. The romantic part is the focus of the story, but the thriller factor is related to the first book. The author did a great job at making me guess about the bad guy and confusing me even more than in the beginning, wondering if we’ve met the killer. I thought the entire series would revolve around Landry’s murderer, but the bad guys don’t stop showing up. If you're wondering what I’m talking about you’ll have to read and find out. You're going to love this version of Fee and Asher that comes out as soon as they stop to fight their feelings. They are great characters, but together they are couple goals. Meanwhile I just want to say that after reading the first two books, I’m even more curious about what’s to come, grateful I don’t have to wait too much for the next story.
Green Jewel is an enemies-to-lovers, boss-employee, rockstar, single dad, slow-burn romance with a hint of forced proximity that I couldn't put down. It has everything I want in a book and then some. It will be hard to beat Fiadh and Asher as they hold the title of best Painted Daisies couple.
Asher Riggs is a grumpy and tormented billionaire who needs to prove he is the businessman who can make the record label he recently bought successfully. And it starts by getting the Painted Daisies back on tour after he demanded they return to the studio to finish their record. He carries so much guilt from the past that were not his fault.
Fiadh Kane is the band's fierce and sassy singer. Devasted and angry after the death of Landry, she is convinced Asher was behind the murder, and she is set on proving it. But when a snowstorm forces them to spend time together, she will finally see that there is more to him than her preconceived and judgy notions. The more his secrets are unveiled, the harder it's not to fall for him.
Their attraction is scorching. But they are too stubborn and headstrong to act on it. When they finally do, it's simply magical. Fiadh makes Asher open up and let go of some guilt while he is the missing piece to her broken heart. Amid their emotional love story, Landry's murder remains a mystery. I have no clue who it could be, so hopefully, the next book will give us some hints.
Green Jewel is an enemies-to-lovers, high emotion MASTERPIECE! The slow burn, will they/won't they is exquisite.
Fiadh hides her emotions and pain under her fun loving, care free exterior. She's always there for the ones she loves and makes sure everyone is okay, but who worries about her? This woman has lost so many people in her life. Understandably, she directs all her anger at Asher.
Asher also hides behind his suit wearing, tough love exterior. The world sees him as an unfeeling asshole, but he's really not. He's a caring father and so honor bound. This man continues to pay for sins that aren't really his to pay for. When he first sees Fiadh, he instantly feels something. Unfortunately, he fights it and in turn becomes the jerk Fee loves to hate.
Once these two stop fighting and start to trust one another, their love blooms quickly. I love when they both start to let their guard down and tell each other their secrets. Asher loves her fiercely and wholly. Fee brings him back to life and brings joy and happiness to not only him, but to his daughter. His daughter, Wren, is so serious. It was so heartwarming to see her have fun and laugh and just be a little girl.
Bravo, LJ Evans! I don't know how she'll top this story, but I look forward to reading more!
Book two in The Painted Daisy Series is so wonderful, suspenseful and full of emotion. LJ knows how to bring out all the emotions with her characters/stories along with the perfect amount of suspense. The minor suspense from this story is resolved however, we are still waiting to find out who killed Landry.
In the first book, I did not have good feelings about Asher Riggs…he was a bit of a jerk, emotionless and pushed the band a bit. However, he does redeem himself in this book. He has been managing some life events that are very challenging, emotional and he’s also caring around some guilt…which I feel gives him the rough exterior.
Fiadh is fiery, determined and a fierce protector of her band mates. She is determined to find Landry’s killer and stops at nothing (even her own safety) to solve this mystery. She has her own share of heartache and does not trust easily.
Asher and Fiadh are at odds over how the band is being managed. When forced to stay in one location they have to find a common ground. There is an underlying attraction to one another that begins to bubble to the top. There are moments of passion, fear, love and new beginnings. I love how LJ wrote these two characters while giving us their backstory to help understand their personalities more.
This series is so amazing and I cannot wait for the next book.
The second book in the Painted Daisies series follows Fiadh and Asher. They still haven't caught Landry's killer, so it's still unsafe for the band. But they have a tour to run, so they need to get back into the swing of things, even if it means Fiadh needs to work with Asher, though everything in her doesn't want to. She has tall, solid walls, and they're there for a reason; it will be difficult to bring them down.
So I have a few unpopular opinions: These women have the worst security I've ever heard. If you can't lock down a house, the whole team needs to be fired, for a second time. They are continually in harm's way because the security is less than stellar. Rule of thumb, don't travel somewhere if you aren't confident all exits, including windows, can be covered. It got rather silly for me. Also, people who drink tea can be caffeine junkies. A lot of teas have more caffeine than a cup of coffee. Last, no one wants to make out with a sore throat. No one... I repeat, no one.
But I'm giving this four stars for a reason. Because all those things above are small in the grand scheme of a storyline, you can dislike certain aspects but still enjoy the story as a whole, and that's the situation here. I like that there's constantly something going on. There are moments of romance but then moments of suspense, and it's a nice balance to make this an enjoyable read.
When you have read a lot of books from a specific author, you think "there is no way they are going to top this" then the next book from them releases and you realize, yes they can. I felt this way about LJ after reading Sweet Memory, I thought "no way she can't write other characters that are going to pull on my feels the way these two have" I am happy to say I was wrong.
Green Jewel is the second book in the Painted Daisies series- we join Fiadh (Fee) and Asher after Jonas has saved Paisley from the stalker. After losing her best friend Landry to a murderer and almost losing Paisley to a stalker- Fee is determined to get to the bottom of who killed Landry, before she loses even more of her found family, and she thinks Asher knows more then he's telling about what happened that night. When one reckless decision forces Fee to stay behind while the rest of the band escapes a sudden snow storm, she ends up stuck with the man she is determined to prove was behind Landry's murder as Asher takes her to his home to wait out the storm, they both discover there is more then meets the eye, and not everything is as it seems, will they be able to fight an attraction that is hot enough to melt the coldest hearts or will they give in and find more then they ever imagined... Read Green Jewel and find out
Green Jewel is the second book in The Painted Daisies Series and picks up from the previous book. It is a beautifully written and emotional journey of two jaded people falling in love. Fiadh is determined to find out who murdered her best friend, and bandmate, Landry. She knows Asher, the new label owner, is hiding something. Getting close to her enemy may be her only way of finding out the truth. When a snowstorm forces her to his home, she’s even more determined to find out his secrets.
Their story is fast-paced and intriguing. The romance between these two enemies builds gradually. I loved how the forced proximity allowed them to open up to each other.
As Fiadh discovers Asher’s darkest secrets, she learns that he’s not the man she thought he was. I loved watching the trust and love grow between the couple and Fiadh’s impact on Asher’s family, especially his daughter, was beautiful and left me feeling warm and fuzzy….even with the surrounding danger.
This was a well-written story. It breaks away from the typical predictable romance, with no-third act break-up. The characters have depth and show a lot of growth. I can’t wait to see a glimpse of Fiadh, Asher, and adorable Wren in the rest of the series as we continue to see each member of the band heal, find love, and continue to search for their friend’s murder.
I have been waiting to read Green Jewel since I finished Sweet Memory in mid March. It was definitely worth the wait! Fiadh Kane has been a favorite Daisy for me and her story was so good. If you haven't read Sweet Memory I truly recommend reading it first because even though Fee's story stands alone there is an ongoing mystery that links throughout the series and it will be better enjoyed if read in order. Fee loves her bandmates like family and when one of them was killed, Fee is determined to bring the killer to justice. Fee never liked Asher Riggs their label owner from the time she met him and she has suspicions about his involvement in her friend's death. Asher has many skeletons in his closet and he also has a deep fear of being near Fee yet can't seem to keep his distance. When a Boston nor'easter forces Asher to bring Fee to his family estate he fears that she will learn everything that he has been trying to keep secret from the outside world. Does this sound a tad bit like Jane Eyre? Well there are undertones but Asher is a lot hotter than I remember Rochester being! So this is about all I can say without spoiling Green Jewel for other readers. It was told from dual POV and was angsty good and had LJ Evans trademark emotional voice throughout the story. I can't wait for Cherry Brandy to come out next!
This was emotional and heartbreaking and it's all I've come to expect from L.J. Evans.
Asher is closed off, has an attitude and he comes off like a giant A-hole. His life has scared him and he's not going to let anything to hurt him again, especially Fiadh.
Fiadh is outspoken, loves fiercely and will not let anyone hurt her "family" more than they've hurt so far. Not even a gorgeous man who flusters her to no end.
Both are fighting the attraction and both have their reasons to do just that. But when a freak snowstorm makes them spend time together, the truths are revealed to show them just how much in common they have. Soon they see that they need one another to keep the monsters at bay. But when danger comes and tries to end them, they finally realize that a world without your loved ones is not worth living.
Book 2 in the series and I'm on pins and needles to finally catch up to all the danger that surrounds this group of friends. I can't wait for book 3.
