Bertil Winther is a friend. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about his noteworthy family and was impressed by the painstaking research Bertil conducted over several decades. It's really an achievement.

Bertil Winther’s book, "Generations Come Generations Go DNA Lives On" offers a generational look into his family. Some of Bertil Winther's family are from Sweden - the Winther's (from 1749). Some are from Germany - the Albrand's (from 1759), and some from Denmark. We get a glimpse into their lives - family, marriages, children, their work, successes and failures, and life at the time. Insights into agrarian living and farming are woven in as well as seafaring jobs such as ship captains. We gain insights into cities and towns, small businesses, housing, factory work, medicine, the church, schooling and its evolution - all through the stories we read of the family and family members. Conflicts and wars, such as WWI and WWII, are detailed. Some of it dates back to 1658 and the Treaty of Roskilde following the Swedish/Danish war. We learn about Bertil’s life, his family, education, emigration to the US and his work. A DNA thread runs throughout this book. "DNA Lives On" is an interesting and informative read. One with Scandinavian roots can read this book and get a glimpse of life in past generations. I recommend this book.
