Lady Jane and Mrs Forbes #2

The Sea View Cottage Conspiracy: A 1920s Lady Jane & Mrs Forbes Mystery

Rate this book
Sandham-on-Sea, England, 1928.

When Lady Jane Scott goes to stay with her aunt, Kate Forbes, they are both looking forward to relaxing strolls along the sea front, Punch and Judy shows, and delicious clotted cream teas.

However, their plans are thrown into turmoil by the disappearance of an elderly villager, the activities of certain suspicious persons, and the arrival of Inspector Ridley from Scotland Yard.

Looks like those scrumptious calories will have to wait while our doughty duo tackle an international conspiracy on their doorstep.

Join Mrs Forbes and Lady Jane in a classic Golden Age cozy mystery with plenty of humour and intrigue. Perfect for fans of Poirot, Miss Marple and Murder She Wrote.

This is the second in the series and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I did enjoy this book as it was a very easy read with likeable characters but it really did feel very repetitive around some of the conversations between the two lead characters when they were try to work out ‘whodunnit’. The author certainly seems to have found there feet a bit more on this book but they twist wasn’t quite as good for me, as it was in the first of this series.

Due to the easiness of these books, I would continue on with the series!

Busy Seaside Town

Enjoyed this book. Lady Jane and Mrs. Forbes are a formidable pair of sleuths for beginners. Questioning minds that don't take no for an answer. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I like the two main characters and similar to the previous book, this one starts quite well. However, following the same pattern, the middle becomes a bit tedious with Kate and Jane seemingly endlessly walking around asking everybody in sight if they have seen Norman. Fortunately, again the ending is a bit more convincing.

Enchanting series

Well-written, laced with droll and understated humor, great plots, and charming characters. This is a lovely new series, and I can’t wait to jump into the next book.

Need to use your power of deduction.
Dialogue is a little repetitious.
Good story.

Poor Inspector Ridley!

These books are just plain fun. An elderly widow, a young woman with a bright mind, a harried police inspector constantly tripping over the other two, what's not to love about all the tropes trooping along together?

Quite enjoyable.

This was a fun mystery...new to me. I found this write to be entertaining and less distracting than other writers. I enjoyed the story development and the telling. Great read and I can't wait to get my hands on different books.

Overall, another fun murder mystery with Lady Jane and her Aunt Kate. I really enjoy their relationship, though I felt the story slogged a bit in the middle. A strong finish with a promise of another book!

I find it difficult to put into words how disappointed I am by this book. I'd quite liked the first in the series, but this one is anachronistic, tedious, and more of an adventure novel than a mystery. Not sure I'll keep reading these.

Glacial

The pace of this book is very slow. The characters are not developed and are not interesting. Ok for Kindle unlimited, if you have the time.

The narration on this is not good, consistently putting emphasis on the wrong syllable and mispronouncing common English words. It sounds like this was done by an unskilled AI.

Lady Jane and Kate are at it again. They were only going to have a holiday at the seaside, but when asked to help find a missing person, they found themselves wrapped up in a true mystery and a murder.

Inspector Ridley is back and can't believe that Jane and Kate are once again at the scene of the crime.

He still wants them to stay out of the investigation, but is learning that they just might be helpful in solving the mystery.

Can't wait to read number 3 in the series.

This book was cute. It was a good palate cleanser after a heavy book I read so I enjoyed it for that reason.
