After a disorienting first day at the Bureau of Magic, Katarina quickly settles into her new position. Luckily, she has her friends to fall back on, especially after finding out there are even more doom flags to come--it turns out the Bureau of Magic is the setting for the sequel to Fortune Lover, which features the return of the formerly banished villainess, Katarina Claes. With a whole new set of love interests thrown into the mix, Katarina needs to stay on top of all these new doom flags, lest she accidentally set one off and meet a fate even crueler than banishment!
Katarina faces the next chapter in her story, including some all new and unknown Doom Flags, as she becomes her adult career at the Bureau of Magic.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure how the story was going to go once Katarina escaped the original Doom. I thought it would go into some epilogue where she would be confronted with the true nature of her reality (that everyone loves her) and work our way to the “happily ever after”. But a sequel game where Katarina had to go in blind is a much better option. Because now we can explore more of the world and have Katarina actually engage with it, not just expertly parrying perceived Doom.
Lots of shenanigans as Katarina and the other new employees take a working placement test. The poor proctor thinks it's going to be straightforward - sorry, Laura, you're doomed. Chaos is about to ensue.
It just feels like nothing is getting accomplished now. Even the simple task is left on a cliffhanger. I'm still going to keep reading but I feel kind of let down by how it's going.
I'm a little more confused than I probably should be, but I think it's just pacing for the plot. I'm not really feeling the larger cast now, either. At least not yet.
📖 Summary: Volume 10 and still not a single kiss. Not one. We’ve officially reached the “how the hell is she still alive with this many people down bad for her” stage. There’s drama. There’s royal intrigue. There’s literal near-death tension. And Katarina? She’s worried someone might not like her handmade snacks.
In this volume, someone finally tries to make a move—and just like clockwork, Katarina swerves that energy with a 3-paragraph internal monologue about gardening, then smiles innocently while another poor harem member has an emotional collapse. Beautiful. Devastating. Hilarious.
💖 Favorite Character / Theme: Katarina is officially running a kingdom-wide harem without even signing up for the job. Her emotional support chaos continues to ruin nobility with zero awareness.
Special shoutouts:
Geordo, who is basically breathing into a paper bag behind her at all times
Mary, who is 0.03 seconds away from proposing at every opportunity
Sora, whose entrance adds new chaos potential and I’m INTO it 👀
Themes? ✨ Miscommunication as a lifestyle ✨ Weaponized kindness ✨ The self-aware tragedy of being emotionally oblivious and universally adored
🔥 Smut Level: Zilch. Still. BUT WE GOT A HEAD-ON ALMOST-KISS and the fallout was so dramatic it might as well have been a full-on affair. #SmutTags: #AlmostKissAnxiety #JustSayYouLoveHer #HaremCollapseApproaching #TooHotForCanon
⚠️ Trigger Warnings: Unrequited yearning, harem-wide emotional devastation, prolonged sexual and romantic tension (honestly should be a content warning by now)
👥 Read this if you like: Reverse harems that emotionally wreck you in pastel Watching hot people suffer because the FMC is too emotionally dense to see it Literally everyone being in love with the same girl and no one doing anything about it
❌ Skip if: You need kisses before Volume 73 You can’t stand the slowest of slow burns You feel bad watching five people sob while Katarina plans a picnic
