The west is a dangerous place, especially for a lawman. Zane Morgan, sheriff of Rocky Ridge, Colorado has accepted this and has resigned himself to being alone. He won’t ask a woman to share his life when the odds of him living long enough to raise a family are slim.
Priscilla Rowan is on the run. Pregnant and fleeing her preacher ex-husband, she’s on her way to California when nature ruins her plans and her child decides to be born sooner than expected. Although she doesn’t trust any man, she has no choice but to accept Zane’s help and protection until she can move on.
As Zane and Priscilla grow closer, Zane discovers protecting her becomes much more than his duty. But when the threat is eliminated, can he convince her to stay without giving up who he is?

This fourth story in this series is a must to read.
Oh how I loved this story. Zane is one of the Morgan men that I really found captivating since the first story in the series. He is now the sheriff and he finds a woman and a newborn in the livery. The woman is feverish and he knows he has to take her in to help her heal from giving birth on her own and to get the fever that she has down before she dies. He gets his sister- in- law to help take care of her since he still has to work. He finds himself attracted to her and knows there is nothing he can do about it since his job is dangerous. She also has told him that she has to get as far away as she can so her crazy ex husband doesn't find her and the baby and kill them. Oh my, there is something he feels strongly about and that is protecting her. This is one story not to be missed. I highly recommended this Morgan story as well as all the others. They are all short novellas that still pack a punch.
